With the Thrashers yet again in the middle of several days off before their next game, here is a quick look at some of their stats and numbers so far after eight games played.
Points Percentage: Atlanta 4-3-1 record equates to a points winning percentage of .563 which is 17th in the league, 8th in the Eastern Conference and 2nd in the Southeast Division.
A .563 points winning percentage played out over the course of an 82 games season will net you 92 points.
Goals per Game: 3.50…which is tied with San Jose for 5th highest in the NHL. Only Calgary, the Rangers, L.A. and Washington score more per game at this time. That the Thrashers are scoring three and a half goals per game is not surprising to me at all.

Opie is 3-2-1 witha 2.78 GAA and .910 SV% (AP/Tom Gannam)
Goals Against per Game: 2.88…this is the 13th lowest in the league just higher than the Sharks’ 2.83 and just lower than the Flyers’ 2.89. Seriously, anytime Atlanta’s GA/G average is south of 3.00…it’s indeed newsworthy.
Shots per Game: 25.0…which means that the Thrashers are putting the puck in the net every 7th shot or so. That’s a pretty darn good percentage. Leading the way for the Thrashers…Kovy with 27 SOG, Maxium Afinogenov and Rich Peverley have taken 18 each and Evander Kane is fourth with 16 shots taken.
Shots Against per Game: 32.9…27thin the NHL, very un-good. But, with apologies to Monty Python’s Flying Circus,…it’s getting better! In the last three games that number has been kept to under 30. Saturday versus San Jose, they allowed the Sharks but 24 SOG, a season low for the Thrashers defense. Thursday against Washington it was 28. In Montreal last week the Canadiens only got 28 shots off on Ondrej Pavelec during regulation…7 in overtime, however.
Atlanta’s record in those three games…0-2-1. Go figure.

The Pevs Dispenser has 5 goals, 5 assists with 2 game-winners and is a +2 (Photo by Aaron)
Power Play: 28.1%…only Calgary’s 32.3%, Toronto’s 29.0% and San Jose’s 28.8% are better. Just a few games ago, this power play unit led the NHL. Rich Peverley leads the way here with 4 goals and assisting on another while on the man-advantage. Rich has also dispensed an assists while the team was shorthanded.
Penalty Kill: 86.1%…behind only Ottawa’s 89.7%, Minnesota’s 88.1% and the Rangers 86.4%. This is another pleasant surprise for Thrashers fans. They’ve employed a much more aggressive style of play while a man down and pursue the puck a lot better than in years past.
Face Offs: 50.0… right in the middle of the pack in 16thplace, which is just where you might expect a 50/50 face off percentage to land. Rich Peverley has won 64.6% of the face offs taken while Marty Reasoner has been successful 54.6% of the time. Chris Thorburn has taken fewer face offs but has won 80% of them.
Goal Leaders: Kaptain Kovalchuk leads the way with nine goals scored so far…a total that will stay put for about a month or so given his foot injury. Rich Peverlyis second right now on the Thrashers with five followed by Kane with 3. Afinogenov, Bogosian and White each have a pair of goals to their credit.
Assist Leaders: Nik Antropov’s 7 assists leads all Atlanta skaters, second is Enstrom with 6. Pavel Kubina, Bryan Little and Rich Peverley have dished out 5 helpers of their own.

Toby Enstrom has logged 22:47 ATOI and has 6 assists (AP/Gregory Smith)
Time on Ice Leaders: Toby Enstrom has logged the most average time on ice after eight games played with 22:47. That’s a lot time out there, but it doesn’t come close to league-leader Chris Pronger with 27:55. Pavel Kubina is second on the team with 22:44 ATOI followed by Zach Bogosian’s 21:50, Ron Hainsey’s 20:57 and Kovy’s 20:01.
Most Time In The Sin-Bin: Not surprisingly, Eric Boulton leads the Thrashers in penalty minutes with 22. Slava Kozlov follows with 15, Bogosian has 12. Kane and White both have 10 PIM.
Pluses and Minuses: Kubina’s +3 rating is the highest +/- rating for Atlanta. Kane and Hainsey are both +2. On the other end of that spectrum, Max and Todd White are both -5.
Stats provided are through games played on Monday October 26, 2009.

Sometimes, Smoothie, those fourth grade jokes and name calling can be both fun and entertaining, you weenie-head!
From what I’ve heard, both Antropov and Pavelec are in tonight. I just hope Pavelec stays strong and doesn’t let another 180ft goal in.

Very true Alan, you stinky pants!!
It’s just unusual for this blog to depart from hockey this much and not discuss what’s going on with the team. But then again, these long ridiculous breaks in the sked are killing not only the team, but the fans must be looking for other preoccupations to fill the time.
If we can steal a game from Washington tonite, we’ll be 5 pts down from them with 3 games in hand still. 3 games!! In hand…at Halloween. Stupid schedule jerks!!

I”ve never been shot at. I have had my window smashed out at Underground Atlanta. DVD player stolen, anlong with some movies. We lost “Roots”, I’m gonna get you sucka”, and “Blacula”. I wonder why they didn’t take “Braveheart”, Chariots of Fire” and “West World”. Anyway, I get dollared to death every time I go to see the Thrashers or Hawks.

Mr. Smoothie – giggle…oh, you are too kind.
Alas, no I will not be there tonight. The last Thursday night of every month is reserved for my appointment at Spa Sydell for a full body massage, pedicure, French manicure and body polish.
One of the many, many perks Mr. Rawhide so generously affords to me.

Looks like JA is playing his cards tight to the vest tonite as he won’t tip off what line Antropov will be on if he plays tonite…and it sounds like, judging from JA’s presser, that he will play.
Let’s hope JA throws Washington a total curve-ball by icing lines radically different from the aforementioned practice lines. Kozzy – White – Finny have been a defensive disaster. White has been on the ice for 6 GA while Finny has been on the ice for 7 although 3 of them really weren’t his fault as he had just come onto the ice after Kovy had lingered too long (STL, NJ, WSH).
The lazy, slow or disconcerted line changes should stop now that Kovy won’t be out there on extended shift time making it a bit harder for the guys to know when to get on the ice. As long as Antro can skate well enough to be effective defensively, I trust Little, White and Kozzy to pick up the slack. My guess for the lines if Antro plays:
Slava – Antro – White
Kane – Pevs – Army
Little – Reasy – Finny

How many people actually PAY for Thrasher tix? Don’t they give away something like 3,000 freebies a night? You’d never see the Edmonton Oilers do anything like that.
Seriously- how long does it take to “build” a fanbase? 10 years? 20 years…?
Absurd.

Northstars Dave: so far tonite, I think you will agree, the team has absolutely “inhaled vigorously”. This season could get UGLY very, very, very quickly. BTW, having an empty Bulb is not going to help quiet those relocation rumors.

Losing streak now at four! Or will be in a few minutes. Yet another heartless giveup job. Where? Why at Loseland of course. The home away from home for every visiting NHL team! Where rivals get to skate freely without fear of being hit or even impeded. Thrashers want pity. Captain Ilya Kovalchuk out. Goalie Sori Letemin out. Wah wah wah! Excuse for not scoring any goals. Correction. Quitters are fantastic at putting puck into their own net! Cannot score on a f#cking penalty shot. On home ice! Totally unacceptable. Pavs looks like a damn Kari Lehtonen Jr! Sorry bestard. Rest of Thrashers have called it quits! Fans might as well too. This slide will continue until scumbags hit rock bottom! Just cannot plummet any lower than that. A total embarrassment! KL and IK hoist two more brews. Why the Hell should they worry? About to check in on football game. May not be back to watch this shet! Uncaring toilet residue. How is that for gloom and doom apologists? ++STENDEC++

Give quitters a pass if you feel so inclined! Are they not well paid to WIN hockey games? I sure as Hell thought alleged professional athletes were! These bums are strictly amateur hour rejects. Thrashers have put puck in net twice. Behind Pavs. Oops! So instead of up 2-1 it is 3-0 to an extremely mediocre outfit. Team cries about absence of star. Wah wah wah! F#ck whining quitters. Just looking for an excuse to lose. Hope they get shut out. Hope they do not put puck in rival net over next 10 games! Anyone that gives positives about this shet effort can kiss my a$$! Thrashers have packed it in. Fans with any intelligence should too. Damn bestards! ++STENDEC++

It’s 3-0, Capitals, after two. Let’s see what the third period brings! Time for Little, Slava, and Reasoner to jump onto the stat sheet! Bogosian, too. Time for Todd White to step up.
Ovechkin is … just a monster. It’ll be hard to keep him away from “the trick” if we pull the goalie as time expires.
Folks, the Caps are good. They might be a Conference Finalist this year. They might even play for the Cup, with some luck, at season’s end. I won’t feel terrible losing to them. But I do expect the players I listed above to be exceptional in the 3rd period. Kovy … is … watching. He’s waiting for someone in red to step up and prove this team is worth keeping together.
Just like that! Bogosian scores on the PP!!

WBF, Slater’s had a good night. At least from what I’ve seen. You’ve got to give him some credit for his effort and hustle. He’s been one of the more “spirited” Thrashers on the evening.

Bogosian scores again!! But, it’s “too little, too late.” Capitals win, 4-3, thanks to the empty-netter.
Review my 8:55 PM post. Those playoers were exceptional in the third period. Todd White did step up and score. Bogosian got two (2) goals. Kozlov and Little had chances. Peverley “somehow” his chance on the doorstep. Folks, I don’t expect a win or even a point from a 3-0 deficit. But this third period was some inspired play. I’m sure Kovalchuk noticed that the team didn’t fold its tent. Even down, 4-2, they pulled Pavelec AGAIN to try to get back in it. And it WORKED. The Thrashers just ran out of time. That’s all.
That was a GREAT comeback. Those who stayed to the finish were treated to a frantic finish.

Brandan you make me f#cking nauseous! Caps stopped skating in third period. So spare me the close loss bullshet! Do not bother quoting misleading close final statistics. Another defeat! Another heartless giveup job at Loseland. You can sugar coat it any damn way you choose to! Morons like you who are pacified by close moral choke jobs hurt this untalented team more than help it. No accountability is sought so the status quo (losing) remains the same! Real damn caring fans demand the best. Pavs is a tad better than Sori Letemin which is just not good enough at this level. Only three players (at most) possess NHL caliber talent! F#cking losers. Hey Brandon. How many points tonight? Zero. None. Zilch. Zippo. Tell me how great these damn commode residue quitters are! May the streak continue! Well into Novemver. Coach John Petrino is still a clueless ignorant son of a betch! Whining bestard. Bad bounces? No sun in eyes? No monkey pucks? Starting to sound like damn you know who! Announcers should be fired or executed. Personally do not care which one! ++STENDEC

Boy Stendec, cool down… I do agree it’s all but over as we sink futher and futher into the bottom of the NHL.
Tampa won AGAIN tonight in impressive fashion and we looked like we could care less for the first half of the game.
To be honest I now believe Little’s season a year ago to be a complete FLUKE. Time to let him GO ! He will never come close to those numbers again ever and several others are skating in a fog.
Just proves another GREAT job by The Career Loser himself DUMB don waddell, that he cannot field a competative NHL club, he has had TEN years now and what do we HAVE… NOT MUCH !!! Just slightly above an ECHL club is more like it. What plan is it now “don” ??????????
Well if there is ANYONE out there who believes #17 will resign now
seeing where this waddell train wreck is headed, they need to explain why , nobody wants to play for a loser and waddell has taken good care of us fans yet again… another losing product and he does not give a DAMN about it… oh yeah don… Great offseason moves really helping !
