Worst Christmas movies

Even Ben Affleck had to know "Surviving Christmas" was a stinker.

Even Ben Affleck had to know "Surviving Christmas" was a stinker.

Everyone has their favorite holiday movies — chances are “It’s A Wonderful Life” and “A Christmas Story” are on the list — but for every “Miracle on 34th Street,” there’s a “Santa With Muscles,” a Hulk Hogan vehicle about “an evil millionaire who gets amnesia and then believes that he is Santa Claus,” according to IMDB.

It’s Christmas clunkers like this that online ticket seller Fandango had in mind when it launched its contest for the 10 worst Christmas movie of all time. A customer poll helped shape the list, which is topped by the it-sounds-so-bad-it-might-be-good entry “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.” It might not have a touching epiphany wherein George Bailey realizes how much he has to be grateful for, but it does have Kris Kringle doing battle with ’60s era tinfoil robot aliens. And when you can’t stomach hearing Zuzu talk about angels getting their wings for the millionth time, that actually doesn’t sound so bad.

Do you agree with the Fandango respondents? What would make your personal list of worst Christmas movies?

Our famiy actually enjoys “Ernest Saves Christmas,” and watching it is an annual tradition for us. There are so many funny lines–forget the plot and enjoy the gags.

I’ll be tracked down and exiled for saying so, but I think “A Christmas Story” is one of the worst movies ever. I could only stand to watch it once–that poor little kid getting dumped on by everybody hurt too much to bear, but the horror of horrors was the scary Santa sequence. As a onetime Mall Santa’s Helper, I cringed at all the rules of Santa-ness that impostor broke. I can never figure out why folks want to see it over and over all day.

But, to each his/her own, so Merry Christmas (KnowhutImean?)!

Christmas with the Kranks actually had some funny scenes, e.g., the chase for the ham which gets smashed by a semi, Luther buying the last Cub Scout Xmas tree which has no needles on it by the time he gets it home, the annoying cat that Luther drenches with water which freezes and all the cat can do is blink once.

I wait for A Christmas Story to come on all year. And my family and I leave the station playing all day because it’s usally a marathon. We love love that movie. How could you not like it? It is sooooo funny. Remember the scence where the mother washes his mouth out with soap and she calls the friend’s mother so so so funny. I can not wait.

If you watch Christmas movies on your smart phone WHILE “driving” on the streets and highways of Metro Atlanta, (very) selfishly endangering the lives of the motorists around you who are actually watching the road, you deserve to die and have your unsafe selfishness eradicated from our society.

(Yes, that includes YOU, too.)

Count me among those that don’t get the popularity of “A Christmas Story” Though definitely not the worst holiday movie I’ve seen, it’s nowhere near the top. I admit there are some amusing scenes, but ovrall it is mediocre at best. “Elf”, “A Christmas Carol” (any version), “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (animated version not the horrible Jim Carey version), even “A Charlie Brown Christmas” are much better IMO.

@Biff I know. Isn’t Atlanta so cosmopolitan? There are so any cool places to shop and dine. It really fits my sophisticated lifestyle.

The truly worst Christmas Movie has to be “Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny.”
I found an old copy of it and showed it to my nieces and nephew who begged me to turn it off.

As my real name is not displayed, I will admit this . .. I like Ernest Saves Christmas.
Whew, the first step is admitting you have a problem! Now I will submit to a higher power and apologize to all those I made watch it. Only nine steps to go!

Don’t know about the worst, but the best is the relativly new (2009-2010?) Nativity with Martin Freeman, Ashley Jensen, and Marc Wooten (England’s Jack BlacK)…truly fall off your chair funny with wonderfully fresh music! It could easily replace A Christmas Story!!

Yesterday was NOT the first day of winter. It was the Winter Solstice. It does not mean on that day it is supposed to be cold. You retarded weather forecasters should have studied more science in college and avoided the Christian influence.
