What is your favorite scary movie?

Everyone has seen at least one scary movie that leaves a lasting impression.

I saw mine when I was a freshman in college. “Candyman” is inspired by the urban legend of Bloody Mary, only in the movie, if you look in a mirror and say “Candyman” five times, he’ll appear behind you and kill you with a hook.

'Candyman' isn't so sweet if you want to go to sleep after watching it.

'Candyman' isn't so sweet if you want to go to sleep after watching it.

“Candyman” was the last of a horror movie marathon that I and the other residents on my dorm floor had decided to have. We started with “April Fool’s Day,” watched something unmemorable, then someone put it in. When it ended at 5 a.m., I refused to go to the communal bathroom, with all of those mirrors, by myself.

The great thing about scary movies is that everyone is frightened by something different. One friend is terrified by “It” because of Pennywise the clown. Another has issues with “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” even though it’s considered a children’s movie, because of the Oompa Loompas. And the chocolate pipe that sucks up Augustus.

So what is your favorite scary movie? What about it makes it your favorite?

The exorcist wasn’t scary at all. I laughed during it. The grudge was scary. Some of the Saw flicks.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the scariest movie I’ve ever seen!!! (the remake…can’t even imagine the original, yikes!) That movie pretty much soured any and all other scary movies for me…still gives me the creeps thinking about it!

1, 2, Freddie’s coming for you… 3, 4, better shut the door…. 5, 6, grab your crucifix…. 7, 8, gonna stay up late…. 9, 10, never sleep again…. *yikes!!!* …

back then, that was the scariest! that, and the supernatural, biblically-referenced THE OMEN and because of my “it could happen” belief, it would be all time scary movie for me. (the supernatural stuff always do it for me. everything else is laughable at best)

Carrie (original). Saw it as a kid, refuse to watch it now.

Also, Children of the Corn. I used to live in Ohio and the cornfields really freaked me out!

Other good ones include The Grudge, Sleepaway Camp, and Amityville. Texas Chainsaw didn’t do anything for me.

I LOVE the original George A. Romero Dawn of the Dead from 1978. A very smart, gory film. Anything with a zombie getting his head cut off by a helicopter blade HAS to be great!

The Ring. Best done scary movie I’ve seen. I saw it when it came out in the theatre. There were large men holding onto their dates during it lol. Plus, I couldn’t sleep in a room with a TV for years. Great movie!

The one movie that truly scared the mud out of me as a child is the original Haunting with Julie Harris. It’s in black & white, made in 1963 and to this day that movie can make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Don’t watch it on tv with commercials, get the DVD and turn out the lights.

In no particular order:

Original Halloween
Original Nightmare on Elm Street (the body bag scene still creeps me out)

I LOVE scary movies these are the best to me:

The Exorcist- My friend had this on VHS when I was about 10. Scrared the crap out of me

Nightmare on Elm Street- The oringinal is a beast

Audition- Japanese horror classic gives me the creeps.

Psycho- The detective falling down the steps scrared me for awhile

The Ring- The girl out of the TV, a new classic horror scene

The Silence of the Lambs- My brain was totally out of commision by the end of this flick.

Paranormal Activity. I saw it months ago and I still don’t sleep well. That scene where the ghost grabs the woman’s foot and drags her out of the bed is chilling.

One of the best I ever saw was “The Other”, an old made-for-TV movie based on the Thomas Tryon novel. It’s an intense movie, and you have to watch carefully and pay close attention…you’ll be confused as hell up to about halfway through…but it’s a good one.
I also liked the original “Halloween”, just because it initiated so many modern “cliches”…the missing knife from the rack in the background, the killer who keeps “reviving”, etc.

As a kid, Poltergeist, Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street. Movies that I enjoyed as an adult: The Exorcist, Psycho, Scream, The Ring, The Grudge.
I HATED Candyman! I saw that movie when it premiered in the theatre. I was in high school at the time and that movie totally freaked me out! I am 35 years old and I will never watch that movie again!

I love the old dracula and warewolf movies with Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney. My scariest movie would have to be Salem’s Lot. Working the night shift, having to park in the back of the house and walking to the front door got awfully scarey after that movie.

None of the zombie/monster movies or killer/slasher movies really scare me because they are so fake!! Jaws had the lasting impression. I can’t get in the ocean past about my waist before I start having bad visions!! I’d say the scariest movies are the ones that stick with you!

The Omen and Body Snatchers (the original with Donald Sutherland). Both scared the beeejeeebies out of me. To this day, I am not fond of horror movies (I saw them when I was a tweenie). Oh, and The Exorcist – but that’s mainly just gross.

Anything with children creeps me out!! Ghost Ship, Children of the Corn… Last Exorcism had me feeling like I needed to pray when I walked out of it!! Paranormal Activity had my heart racing…even tho I watched it in the middle of the day, in full daylight!! OH!! And The Hills Have Eyes!! And as stupid as it was “House of Wax” had it’s scary parts!!

The scariest thing I’ve watched is the first half of this season’s UGA football games!!! If you had bet a lot on those games, they would have scared the P out of you!!

The Descent – this was the only movie as a grown ass 30+ year old man that made me jump and let out a slight scream…Candyman is also still a horror classic and as educated as I am you would never get me to say his name times into a bathroom mirror

1 – Nightmare on Elm Street (original) terrifies me every time, and gave me Freddie nightmares for years.
2 – The Sixth Sense had some chills and is wonderful, but it makes me cry every time.
3 – The Scream movies are still scary fun.
4 – The Changeling was the first one that really scared me – need to look for that one.
5 – The Ring was also pretty creepy and I watch it again from time to time.

@donkey200 – FYI, the ORIGINAL Invasion of the Body Snatchers was made in 1956:, and it does not star Donald Sutherland – although his version was quite good.
