South Carolina State, led by reigning offensive MVP Will Ford, is the preseason pick to win the MEAC championship.
The Bulldogs, who finished 8-0 in the conference and 10-3 overall last season, received 10 first-place votes and 290 total points. Florida A&M was picked to finish second with Hampton, Bethune-Cookman and Norfolk State rounding out the top five.
Ford, a second-team All-American last season, was named the preseason offensive player of the year with Norfolk State DB Terrell Whitehead earning defensive honors. In addition to Ford, South Carolina State had four first-team selections while the Rattlers, led by QB Curtis Pulley, had nine first-team selections.

Thanks for covering HBCU sports. It has been a long dry spell and those of us who are HBCU grads crave more reporting. Just do more reporting.

That poll must be crazy. There is no way any of those team will beat Delaware State University this year. There must be some political jockying going on among the coaches in the MEAC to even think Florida A&M, Hampton, Bethune Cookman, and Norfolk State can beat Delaware State. I give South Carolina State some credit. They are the reigning MEAC champs. But the others , no way!!! Justify their selection? You can’t, and not mention Delaware State. Something is real fishy with this.

I DO NOT KNOW HOW THEY GAVE GRAMBLING THE NO.1 RANKING IN BLACK COLLLEGE FOOTBALL WHEN THE SWAC IS WEAKER THAN THE MEAC CONFERENCE -(FOR THE PAST YEARS ALL THE SWAC TEAMS HAVE LOST MORE GAMES TO THE MEAC TEAMS BY A LARGE MARGIN – THAN LET A SMALL TEAM LIKE TUSKEGEE BEAT SOMEONE IN THEIR CONFERENCE) SOUTH CAROLINA STATE IS BY FAR THE NO. 1 BLACK COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM THEY ILLUSTRATED THAT BY THE CLOSED GAME AGAINST APPLACHIAN STATE WHO WON THE DIV-1AA CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2007 AND 2006 AND UPSETED MICHIGAN AT HOME. SC STATE IS DEFINITELY NO. 1 HBCU AND YOU WILL SEE THAT COME SEPTEMBER 5–HOLLA

Dixon please, maybe recently but the SWAC traditionally runs the MEAC. And what’s this about playing Appalachian St. tough, who cares that they won the championship 2006 and 2007. They didn’t win last year and they beat Michigan 2 years ago. That doesn’t mean a hill of beans how close the game was. That only matters in horseshoes and hand grenade throwing. And you guys keep talking about Tuskegee, they play ALA St. out of the SWAC, who cares about ALA St. If Tuskegee came to Baton Rouge, they would go home knowing they played a true SWAC school and not an intown cupcake.

SC STATE offense has finally caught up the defense. I look for us to win the MEAC again this year. GET UP for the Bulldogs. Everybody get up.

The Bulldogs are by far the best team in this matchup. Grambling continues to stand on the laurels of past years. Can’t wait to see Ford (best RB not to attend a Div I school) and the other Bulldogs win this by a landslide. There hasn’t been days like this in the Burg since Jefferies was coach.
