Vivlamore reporting.
As promised - long ago - here is the photo gallery offering a behind-the-scenes look at the Hawks and their facilities at Philips Arena. I took over 60 photos but trimmed them down to the 20 you will see by clicking on the link below. I tried to have some fun with it as well so don’t take my comments too seriously!
Enjoy.

o’b dont know how one cuts it but only kidd and camby were in + land. 73 points from melo and jr of 100 pts, throw in tyson’s 10 and there was no guard play really, if jr playing sf. anyway no balance in scoring and that is the trend. we will see if felton can curb it.
go bees, eh?

Well, I nominate C-Viv as beat-writer of the year and I don’t even need to read any other to give him my vote.
He has done a remarkable job at the helm.
Beat-writing is not literature nor opinion, but information and C-Viv has keep a torrent of information coming day in and day out and… short of supplying MsDee with a picture of Horford in his trunks, I think he has done practically everything within his reach to please all bloggers’ wishes.
Great job!

Why doesn’t Teague draw more fouls? Teague is 30th in the league, among PG’s, at getting to the free throw line. Teague averages 2 free throw attempts per game. Even Jimmer freakin’ Fredette has been to the line more than Teague (63 attempts compared to Teague’s 61).
PG’s that double Teagues attempts per game (4 or more): Dragic, Evans, Parker, Walker, Paul, Williams, Lowry, Irving, Ellis, Sessions, and Westbrook.

Just Joe,
More or less the same reason why JJ did not get any calls:
He plays for ATL and he does not sell contact well.

slimj, check the trend. it was a hunch yesterday that jr was taking more on. it didnt just start with felton’s injury. see what you see. i know i saw some very dangerous things for team ball if it continues unchecked. to start, he took 15 or more shots in only 3 games in first 15 and that was 15, 15, 16. check the last 16 games or for that matter what has he avg the last 10. yup, a lot more.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3835/gamelog;_ylt=AhQyCocUFVoQemV687U.ZjYDPaB4
the trend has nothing to do with felton. it is ok if jr is a superstar, but he isnt. jj would do well to copy him as they expect it at his salary is my guess. i doubt the “woody offense” was “designed” for jr to routinely take more than 20 shots a night. do ya think?

JJ – Now Tyreke Evans is somebody I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on if the price was right. Oft injured, game on a slow decline, but he’s still young. If you could get him cheap, he’s exactly what the Hawks need. Tough, hard nosed defender when he wants to be, a guy who can get to the line, and play 3 positions.
I wouldn’t pay tyreke premium money, but I would take a chance on him if we could get him.

Not only do the Hawks own Houston’s 1st pick, top 14 protected, but:
We also have their 2nd pick this season – and also some little known facts of the JJ trade
We can swap our first pick with the Nets in 2014 and again in 2015 both unprotected. It’s not an either/or, we can do it both seasons if we like.
And we have Brooklyn’s 2017 2nd pick.
There’s some nuances in Houston’s 1st pick – its top 14 protected thru 2016 if unused, then it becomes a 2nd pick in 2017.
And Houston’s 2nd pick is top 40 protected thru 2016 I believe, then it becomes unconditional in 2017.
I’m glad Houston got asik, Lin, and especially Harden, and even delfino. We gotta good shot at 2 1st picks this season.
And if the nets would tank, we’ve got a shot at 2 lottery picks in 2014 and 2015. Wallace and jj are getting old, Lopez gets hurt alot, Williams is just that, if they hit the lottery, we got their picks if we want them.
Assuming we’re not in thr lottery with them.

“Not sure how James Anderson is getting all this attention???”
I know rite MsDee. I was thinking the same because he looked terrible in the preseason. I wonder if part of it isn’t sending a message to Royce White, basically saying “you could get some minutes at small forward if you got with the program but we can give those minutes to a guy off the waiver wire if we want.”

So we’ve probably got 4 picks this draft, unless Houston tanks, and only 19 mill in salaries for next season between al, Lou, and Jenkins.
If things fall our way, we can get really good, real young, really fast.

Steve W,
Don’t get doc started on Stuckey. Doc always believed we should have drafted him instead of Acie Law (I think stuckey went one pick after AC). But you’re right. His price tag is too high.
Doc,
I know USC is having a down here, but I was happy for the bowl win. Finally. And I am actually looking forward to see how the basketball team does in acc play, given how terrible they were last year.

SteveW do you have a reference for the Hawks being able to swap first round picks with BKN? I hadn’t heard that but it’s very interesting. I think it’s safe to say we will have Houston’s first rounder this year. Too bad this is going to be one of those historically terrible drafts.

The nets were so sure of championship fever with he jj trade, they gave us the two year option of trading 1st picks with them. Love to see the hawks get in the lottery that way. Maybe two consecutive seasons.
But even if we can trade up a couple of spots 1 season, it’s still a good deal.

Getting rid of JJ like we did, with the cap flexibility and possible draft pick(s) and getting rid of Marvin for an expiring contract, DF deserves offseason GM of the year. And if the hawks finish top 3/4, LD could get votes for COY

I don’t know what’s wrong with Boston. I wonder if Ray Allen calls rondo (anonymously) and runs his face in it. If I’m Boston, I would see what it takes to get cousins. With all his talent, maybe KG and Doc rivers could get him focused.

Okc had torontos 1st pick this season, top 3 and 15-30 protected.
So is Toronto picks 4-14, okc has their pick. Entirely possible.
Is this some kind of sick joke? The last thing okc needs is a #4 pick or something.

OB – Indy gets Granger back, Philly may get Bynum healthy, and Chicago gets rose back. I can’t see Boston stinking the entire season either – remember last year, incredible in march and April.
Hawks may be hard pressed to keep a top 4 seed, we’ll see.
Slim – Knicks started the season as the oldest team in nba history at 32 years and 240 days average age.
Think they’ll fade down the stretch?

Jaevolution:
Hickson 8m/ZaZa 6m
Josh 13 m/ Ivan 1.5m
Al 12m
Monta 12m/Lou 5.7m/ Jenkins 1.2m
Teague 6
That’s 65.4 mill on 9 players, so I think it’s doable. But it all depends on the market. Hickson may get a max offer somewhere, same with josh. You never know till the offers start flying.
But those are realistic numbers for those guys

Hickson a max offer? Are you kidding me? There is a better chance that Jeff Teague gets a max offer than JJ Hickson.
Steve, the new CBA does not allow for a player to get a 5-year deal via a sign & trade. Dwight has only one chance to get a 5-year max deal, stay with the Lakers. if he chooses to go to any other team, he can onlyget a 4-year deal and leave around $20M on the table. So there will be no need to give the Lakers anything to acquire Howard… we will have the cap room to offer him more (or as much) as 28 other teams… the Lakers being the lone exception.

vava….”More or less the same reason why JJ did not get any calls:

I don’t buy it. Jimmer Fredette, who plays in Sacramento off the bench, has been to the free throw line more than Teague this year. Kemba Walker & Ramon Sessions, that play for the worst team in basketball, get twice as many calls as Teague. It has to be something else.
Are more fouls called on pick n roll plays than any other (Teague runs very few per game)?

Steve W, thanks for the reminders on those pix. John Jenkins was a smart pick. Even in high school, he could shoot, and well. Just natural. He’s smart….Vanderbilt, you know is a tough school. He’s obviously a hard worker and willing to do what coach askes of him. Coachable a good thing. He has proved by the playing time he’s gotten, he’ll be a player. So now, we need to know who among the leftovers of that NJ trade are keepers. A lot of expiring contracts + pics = opportunities come trade deadline.

Just Joe,
I have watched just about all of the Hawks games this season and Teague does attack the rim. I seen him draw contact and not get calls on many occasions. Not sure why but he does play aggressive enough to get more foul calls. Unlike Joe Johnson who does not attack the rim to draw foul calls….

Childress at vet min wouldn’t be a bad add for our needs at the 3.
More on Jenkins. Obviouly he was not NBA ready. He would even tell you that. He does have an NBA skill, however, the ability to step back and shoot over bigger guards. Talent, plus smarts = a great late first round pick. Now, they have to decide whether to swap their pix + expiring contracts to win now or invest in a younger group going forward. GM has a number of options, unlike the mess we had with JJ and Marvin clogging up the drain.

I’ve always been a big Childress fan. But he seems to get banged up very easily these days. He hasn’t been healthy for the last several years (since returning from Europe). A healthy childress would be ideal because he as terrific moving without the ball and finding a spot near the rim for the pass. Folk used to complain about his shooting form while he was shooting 55%+ from the field. I always thought the objective was to make shots when you took them and to take them where you know you can make them. I’m not sure I would use the last roster spot on Childress… we would need to set Tolliver free first (or make a trade that clears a roster spot).

AJ – im not saying hickson is worth a max offer, but a 24 year old Hickson averaging 12.3 and 10.8, and somebody like prokhorev or Cuban with money to burn, we’ll you never know.

AJ – And that is great news about Dwight. If the Lakets are tanking before the ASG and trade deadline, do you try and get Dwight then with a couple of 1st picks? Somebody probably offers them more.
But something is def. wrong with Dwight right now. Doesn’t look the same on the court. Not as energetic

Steve, I wouldn’t trade for Dwight because Dwight has a really bad history of making decisions. You trade for him in February and he goes to Dallas in July as a free agent. You lose valuable assets for a few months of a center who is recovering from major back surgery. No thanks.
