Vivlamore reporting.
The Hawks will be without guard Devin Harris (sore left foot) and Anthony Morrow ( right hip strain) for Monday’s game against the Rockets. Neither traveled with the team to Houston on Sunday.
Harris will miss his seventh straight game due to the foot injury. Morrow will miss his second straight game with the hip injury. Whether either player will be able to join the team for Tuesday’s game against the Hornets in New Orleans is undetermined.
Josh Smith, who missed Saturday’s game with a strained right hip flexor, made the trip to Houston and could return to the lineup Monday or Tuesday.

“remember how it took mv7 over 13 games to get back to himself after an ankle fracture that usually takes 6 weeks max to heal? then he refused to play at less than 100% because he “wasnt himself”? that is not in the rg3 playbook as he limps and plays on one leg.”
Remember how MV7 played half the 2002 season with a separated AC joint in his shoulder? It’s just great when people forget the parts of history that don’t fit their narrative.

najeh, i didnt selectively forget anything. never heard that one on vick. i wasnt in the city at the time but did follow pretty closely, so it might have slipped national attention. i did go back a google it, nothing came up. i didnt invent that scenario of the 13 games to recover nor his comments either najeh. that you know and cant dispute. it was to suggest and compare how rg3 is approaching his responsibilities from the get go. we never saw them in mv7.
as much as i liked mv7 and defended him until he finally admitted his involvement in illegal activities, it was obvious he didnt take studying seriously nor was ever described as the first there and the last to leave, choosing to depend on his amazing physical abilities and live life on the edge. those attributes that mv7 neglected are the same attributes rg3 is getting cred for having from day one.
should be a good one slimj. seahawks defense will challenge rg3 to the max as well as do a bit more to shut down morris.

Broncos LB Joe Mays broke his fibula at the end of October, with 9 weeks left in the season, and was placed on season ending IR. Giants RB Andre Brown broke his fibula at the end of November, with 5 weeks left in the season, and was placed on season ending IR. Raiders OT Robert Gallery broke his fibula in Week 2 of 2009 and missed 11 weeks. Reggie Bush broke his fibula in week 2 of the 2010 season and missed 10 weeks. I am not a doctor but I certainly can’t find any examples of NFL players who broke a fibula and missed less than half the season, especially not players who are reliant on speed and agility.

MattP,
What I realised is that Drew had veterans on the bench playing better defence and offense that Jenkins. Morrow, and even Tolliver. You can see that by how many turnovers Jenkins had. Now, one can argue that he had those turnovers because he was not getting that many minutes to get to know the other players, but one could also argue that Drew drew stayed with him despite those turnovers and fouls.
It’s a two way street. I like Jenkins game, but he is one of two rookies on Hawks bench. I believe his time will come. It’s simply waiting your time wether thru injuries or getting more experienced.

Falcons lose Vick
Star QB to miss at least six weeks with broken fibula
Posted: Saturday August 16, 2003 8:58 PM
Updated: Sunday August 17, 2003 12:18 AM
If all goes well, Michael Vick might return in time for a Week 5 matchup against Minnesota. AP
ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta star Michael Vick fractured his right fibula Saturday night in an exhibition loss to Baltimore, and Falcons owner Arthur Blank said the quarterback will be sidelined at least six weeks.
The Ravens (1-1) held off Atlanta 13-10 despite a 67-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Falcons rookie Bryan Scott with 1:51 left. After Atlanta recovered an onside kick, third-string quarterback Kurt Kittner threw an interception, sealing the Falcons’ second loss in two games.
Baltimore rookie Kyle Boller, battling Chris Redman and Anthony Wright for the starting quarterback job, threw a 1-yard TD pass to Terry Jones Jr. in the third quarter, and Matt Stover added two field goals.
Blank said Vick wouldn’t have surgery. If Vick’s out six weeks, he’ll miss the first four games of the regular season and would return Oct. 5 against Minnesota.
“This team will have to pull together, and we’ll all have to play at a little higher level than they were going to before,” Blank said. “But they have the capacity to do that.”
Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb had a similar injury last year and was out two months.
so as above, mcnabb did it in under 8 weeks and was 1-1 in the playoffs that year.
from my looking back it suggests by data drawn from yahoo, from injury 8/16, to the field again 11/30, the approximate time back was 15 weeks for mv7, closer to four months. that is a very prolonged recuperation for a non-operative uncomplicated fibula fracture that some can get back from in six weeks which was the original expectation. those other injuries i really dont know anything about them to discuss their severity. anyway they had significantly shorter periods to recovery than mv7 as well or the end of the season was close he the recuperation intervals.

One thing worth noting in defense of Drew… Avery Johnson complained that he didn’t have the respect of his players because the Nets did not give him a contract extension and brought him into the season as a lame duck. Meanwhile Drew is in the exact same contract situation and thus far obviously has the respect of his players. That’s good personal politics on Drew’s part.

In “finishing” highlights, Porter didn’t get above the rim a single time. Low release point on jumper, almost touches ball to forehead. 22% from 3. Not singling him out. Me and Slim’s favorite, DWilliams, has been below the rim all year.

Rick Sund’s shining moment as GM of the Hawks. He traded two low first rounders (both complete non-factors in today’s NBA) for a guy who could start at either guard position and currently starts at point guard for a team in playoff position.

“But in the Lakers’ case, if their opinion really mattered, Phil Jackson would have been hired instead of Mike D’Antoni.”
The season ticket holders weren’t getting the product they were paying for, so Brown had to take the fall of it. Not sure how closely you follow the Lakers, but this was clearly a case of Jim Buss vindictively sticking it to Phil Jackson one last time. You have to understand the history of Phil disrespecting Jimmy and the power struggle between Jim and his sister Jeanie/Phil’s girl friend, who wanted to take GM responsibilities away from Jim.

Ric Bucher polled several NBA GMs and asked what would be the top 10 of the 2009 NBA draft if they knew what they knew now. Here’s there top 10, with actual draft position in parenthesis (No Teague!).
1. Blake Griffin (1)
2. James Harden (3)
3. Jrue Holiday (17)
4. Steph Curry (7)
5. Ricky Rubio (5)
6. Ty Lawson (18)
7. Taj Gibson (26)
8. DeMar DeRozan (9)
9. Tyreke Evans (4)
10. Brandon Jennings (10)

Apart from Rubio stayed in Barcelona for one year more, all other 9 players got regular minutes from the on set of their careers.
Teague has just crossed the 82 game barrier as a starter.
He is far beyond perfect but his potential is still untapped. Let’s see what he be doing from now on.
For the moment he is already showing that he can close games, as I had anticipated, since crunch time is when he can better use his skill set: handle the rock and attack the rim with his speed.

As for Jenkins, his first set of minutes where positive because he got shots where he likes to get the rock and converted them +- of +3.
His second stint did not get him the ball where he likes and he also missed a lay up.

When I was watching that draft I was hoping the Hawks would trade up cause I knew Lawson would get snatched up. I couldn’t believe it when denver executed a trade to pick him up. We still ended up with Teague though who I hadn’t seen in college and didn’t know much about. I’ve only watched him as a Hawk and I honestly would take him before some people on that list.

To: W.R. Terrell, Mookie Blaylock, keith and all other bloggers who want Josh Smith aka “the ‘Smoove’” “shipped out” of Atlanta
I don’t know if this trade scenario (between the Hawks and Wizards) has been proposed before but it (the trade) is successful on (the) ESPN NBA Trade Machine and provides a (temporary) “stop-gap” solution that addresses the Hawks’ needs/issues at SF and C. The trade scenario/proposal is as follows:
1) Hawks get Emeka Okafor (C), Trevor Ariza (SF) and A.J. Price (PG) [which allows Al (Horford) "to slide" to (the) PF (position)].
2) Wizards get Josh Smith (SF/PF), Devin Harris (PG) and Johan Petro (C).
According to Hollinger’s (Projection) Analysis, this trade scenario results in -2 wins and +1 win(s) for the Hawks and Wizards, respectively. Please note Hollinger’s Analysis is a(n) projection, assumption, hypothesis, theory, or educated guess and does not (necessarily) guarantee that the Hawks will “regress” and, conversely, (that) the Wizards will “progress” from this trade scenario/proposal.

If you trade Josh for a long-term salary, you lose most of your salary flexibility in the summer. Neither Okafor nor Nene (too banged up too often) are worth losing that cap flexibility (IMO). Plus, since so many feel like the only way centers play defense is by blocking shots, Nene would not be considered a defensive upgrade.

doc,
We have seen this before. Saw it with Vick, saw it last year with Cam Newton. The minute RG3 does something THEY don’t like the winds will change. Always wait until a little adversity strikes before crowning the guy king. I was not a big Vick fan, but questioning the guys heart concerning an injury is nuts. If the guy did not feel confident coming back from a broken fibula with the worst offensive line in the NFL, when our whole offense was based on him avoiding the rush, I’ll take his word for it. Also Vick could have practiced more and all the other nonsense you mentioned but he also brought the Falcons from the dregs of the NFL and actually won playoff games. Once Matty Ice does that, then he’s over the hump. Until then, he is not.

doc, of course, once Nene proves he can play 75 games/season, he becomes virtually untradeable. Hard to find efficient low post scorers in this current NBA. Nene is one of the few big man left who can not only get to the free throw line, but also make the free throw shot.

Rod, now that I agree with wholeheartedly. Which is why I keep bringing up OJ Mayo’s player option this summer. He won’t likely get a max contract offer and I’m not convinced he will want to stay with an aging Dallas squad. If the Hawks can’t get a true superstar, then upgrading the wing positions will be key. If Teague continues to ply consistently, the Hawks could do far worse than a 4-guard rotation of Teague, Mayo, LouWill & Jenkins.

main topics on ajc hawks blog..
MV7-Idk why people even talk about him at all, he is a mediocre quarterback at best, im sure i could spend my time looking through archives of career stats and come up with two placebo type scenarios where i list player A’s stats vs player B’s stats and show you vick is worse than alex smith or some other quarterback no one cares to talk about, the only reason i can rationalize why he is discussed still is he is a black qb and idk why that is such a big deal.
Josh trades- stop just stop. i also do not understand why hawks fans cant see we are truly a “team”. everyone seems to like each other and we pass the ball well. when a guy like josh or al is injured/sick w/e we have others that are capable of stepping up. we do not need to trade josh as we can win without him after one game at home vs the pacers. LD is a great coach and I think the players for the most part respect him, I do believe however that if we truly want a NBA championship we will have to get a different coach that has credentials that josh cant overstep like he does with 1st time coach LD.

I admit that I missed the bus completely on Jenkins. “I’M A MAN…I’M 40!” (not really, I am actually 30). He looked really good the last couple games. I just wonder if he will continue to get playing time when Harris and Morrow come back from their injuries. As I have been saying all season though, both those guys need to be moved at the deadline.

if LD doesn’t get a contract at the end of the season, its DF’s perogative. DF is building this team and its understandable that he wants his guys in the locker room. LD has done a good job with this team (for the most part), and if DF lets him go he will land another coaching job soon. I think I like LD (this week), but again, if DF let’s him go it is understandable.

Kirk was a rental who helped win one series vs. Orlando with his defense on Jameer. Along with scoring from Jamal and Joe Johnson. Along with Drew decision to defend Howard one on one.
Hinrich scoring average has been lower than Crawford every year since trade. Not to mention Wizards got Singleton with 2011 draft. Those are not rentals and will improve.
Hinrich is a temporary backup fill in for Rose. After Rose is back he will slide to backup (Hamilton will start if healthy)
We disagree on trade for Kirk being of any long term benefit for Hawks. It was another example of a GM who at best was lazy, at worst incompetent.

For any and all trade scenarios; one must consider:
” Team ” Building as priority #1.
Perhaps we could get a better fit for Josh;
-Paul George comes to mind- [$al / cntract match notwithstanding]
but, even though the positional fit is better,
and the tradeoff of Josh`s baggage seems tantalizing,
at this moment we do not have any:
“addition by subtraction ” issues.
Thus, we should exercise patience, let this Team to percolate,
then add accordingly
when opportunity has ascended to the supreme.
