Vivlamore reporting.
PHILADELPHIA — The Hawks will be without guard Devin Harris for tonight’s game against the 76ers and likely tomorrow’s home game against the Bulls with a sore left foot. Harris did not travel with the team to Philadelphia.
The injury is unrelated to the turf toe that caused Harris to miss a game earlier this season.
An MRI showed no structural damage. Harris is wearing a walking boot as a precaution. Following Saturday’s game, the Hawks are off three days before hosting the Pistons which will allow Harris extended rest for his foot.
Officially, Harris is listed as day-to-day.
Guard Anthony Morrow said the sore back that caused him to miss two games is fine and he expects to play.
In other items:
* The Sixers are dealing with injury issues of their own. Leading scorer Jrue Holiday has missed the past four games with a sprained left foot. Second-leading scorer Evan Turner is suffering from a sprained left ankle. Both players told the Philadelphia media Friday they expect to play. The team calls each a game-time decision.
The Sixers are also awaiting word on center Andrew Bynum. He has not played this season due to knee bone bruises. Bynum was examined by David Altchek in New York Thursday and the team is expected to announce the results prior to tonight’s game.
* Due to the uncertainty of the Sixers roster, Hawks coach Larry Drew said he will wait to determine his starting lineup.
“In these situations we factor (injured opponents) in,” Drew said. “We look at the worst-case scenario that all their guys are there. If certain guys don’t go, we’ll start this lineup. If certain guys don’t go, we’ll start that lineup. We cover our bases.”
Drew said the Sixers’ injuries will not affect how his team plays offensively. He said they could make some defensive adjustments.
* I asked Drew about the team’s recent performance as they have lost two of three past games. They were blown out by the Warriors, narrowly defeated the Wizards and trailed by 17 points before falling to the Thunder.
“I think we’ve been a little inconsistent with some of the things that we did pretty good the first 10 games of the season,” Drew said. “That is expected. You are going to go through those pockets where you are going to have those struggles. You have to work your way through it.
“I would love for us to be efficient every game we play, but that is not going to be the case. Given the schedule, with this stretch of four (games) in five nights, so of that is to be expected. It’s just a matter of working through it. Go back (to the past three games) there were stretches where we did not play very well. We want to focus on what we did wrong in those stretches. What we don’t want is to panic at this point. There are too many more games to play.”
* Anthony Tolliver says he has been frustrated by his recent lack of playing time. The forward did not play in seven straight games in November and December. He has appeared in six of the past seven games, averaging 7.6 minutes. He scored six points in the loss to the Thunder Wednesday.
“Something I pride myself on is coming in and playing defense and doing the little things to help my team win,” Tolliver said. “The stat sheet might not be filled at the end of the night for me but I definitely feel like whenever I’m on the court we are a better team. …
“It is very, very difficult on the offense end (not playing). I’ve been struggling shooting the ball but I try not to think about it. I don’t go into each game thinking I’m struggling. I go in thinking it’s a new game, a fresh start.
“Everybody, the coaches and my agent, told me to stay ready. It was pretty frustrating. I’m still not satisfied playing just a little bit. I definitely feel like I want to compete for more time. But I’ve got to earn it.”

Najeh Davenpoop,
According to basketball-reference.com, the NBA career average “Minutes Played per Game” (mpg) statistics for the players listed below are as follows (in no particular order):
LeBron James – 39.8mpg
Kobe Bryant – 36.5mpg
Dwyane Wade – 37.0mpg
Dirk Nowitzki – 36.3mpg
Joe Johnson – 36.7mpg
Dwight Howard – 36.2mpg
Carmelo Anthony – 36.2mpg
I will concede that “Per 36 Minutes” statistics are (or become) “actual”/real statistics for those players who have NBA career “Minutes Played per Game” (mpg) averages of 36.0+(mpg). Those players who have career “Minutes Played per Game” (mpg) averages of 36.0+(mpg) have “produced”/”put up”/played/logged the actual/real mpg to substantiate or validate their “Per 36 Minutes” statistics.
Conversely, “Per 36 Minutes” statistics for those players who have NBA career “Minutes Played per Game” (mpg) averages (significantly) less than 36.0+(mpg) are or become projected, theoretical or assumptive statistics. (The calculation of) “Per 36 Minutes” statistics for those players who have career “Minutes Played per Game” averages (substantially) less than 36.0+mpg may demonstrate a trend or pattern but do NOT demonstrate the “actual” or real.

Are the HAWKS looking for a win tonight? Philly is a team the HAWKS can beat if the “Smoove”, rebounds, plays defense, take the majority of his shots no farther then 3 feet from the basket and bang for put backs, also, he needs to realize he is not the point guard. Al has to bang for his bucks, rebound and play defense and everyone has to hit the boards. If the HAWKS go the other route with the “Smoove” in his SUPERSTAR mode then the game is lost in an embarrassing manner. LD needs to start playing the young folks Jenkins and Scott and IVAN NEEDS PLAYING TIME. This will be an interesting game to watch, it could tell a lot about where the HAWKS are headed.

This Sixers (squad) is coming off a “beatdown” from the Rockets in Houston (TX). The Rockets “86ed” (the) 76ers, 125 -103, this past Wednesday (12/19/2012).
Hawks, start a new winning streak tonight in Philly, make Lou Williams (the) “Player of the Game,” and “86″ (eighty-six) the 76ers.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe Thad Young used to abuse Marvin Williams in these matchups. I’d like to see Josh or Ivan matched up with him when at all possible. ZaZa on Lavoy Allen. Horford on Spencer Hawes. The front court matches up pretty well for us.
Holliday, N. Young, Richardson & Turner will be the challenge for Teague, LouWill, Korver & Stevenson.

Thad Young doesn’t seem like the kind of player who “abuses”. Unless scoring 20 points is considered abuse. He is having a very good year, with a goodly number of rebounds and blocks and a high FG%.

With this team, I try to stay away from saying player X should play more. That means that someone else would have to be sitting, instead of playing. And, it’s hard to say who should be on the bench so player X can play. That being said, I do think Tolliver should be getting some time. He is a good player. I started to like him last season when he played in Minny. He does a lot of things well, like play D and hustle. 7-8 minutes a game, at least.

I don’t have a good feeling about tonight. Despite the 76′ers having injury issues, the Hawks always struggle with this team. It seems to be a bad matchup. Philly owned us last season. Plus, the Hawks are in the mists of 4 games in 5 nights. Don’t like it.

JUST JOE-(From the last blog)I just can’t remember who started at SF in the Thunder gm. I was going off the fact that Korver was the one Drew chose as his starting SF when the season began.
I just don’t feel Drew’s habit of always trying to matchup to other teams starting lineup is a good idea. Before each gm we hear him say he hasn’t decided who will start because he doesn’t know who the oppostion will start.
It didn’t matter one bit who we started against Durant, because offensively no one is going to stop him from shooting or scoring. However, you can at least make him work hard on DEF, which neither Stevenson or Morrow are capable of doing.
Now Korver, on the other hand, could have made him work his butt off fighting over screens. After running Durant off several screens, Korver would have consistently been wide open to take those deadly 3pt shots. He would have also caused Durant to be out of position, and maybe prevented him from getting a few of those 13 rebounds as well.
Four of the Thunders starting 5 players were taller than Morrow or Stevenson. And although they both are taller than Westbrook, his speed, quickness and athleticism allows him to play much bigger than either. Drew should have started JJenkins at SG and KKorver at SF.
Since Drew has finally decided he needs to give Jenkins some mins, and with harris out, tonight’s gm would be a good opportunity to give him a start. His shooting ability would certainly create more lanes for Teague to penetrate.
With Teague, Korver and Jenkins on the floor, there won’t be a lot of double teams or collapsing DEFs on Josh or Horford.

“Anthony Tolliver says he has been frustrated by his recent lack of playing time. ”
Seriously?
He played well against the Thunder, I’ll give him that. But dude, you are at best the 5th best big man on this team. You are at best the 4th best SF on this team. There are not a lot of minutes for below average players in the NBA. If you wanted to play maybe you should have signed with a lottery team.

“Conversely, “Per 36 Minutes” statistics for those players who have NBA career “Minutes Played per Game” (mpg) averages (significantly) less than 36.0+(mpg) are or become projected, theoretical or assumptive statistics. You still continue to completely miss the point of what I was talking about. Per-36 stats are just per-minute stats multiplied by 36. The only reason they post per-36 stats instead of per-minute stats is because per-36 stats are easier to understand. It’s easier to look at a player’s stats, see that he average 6 free throw attempts per 36 minutes, and say he gets to the free throw line at a decent rate. It’s a lot harder to look at a guy’s per minute stats, see that he gets to the free throw line 0.166666666666 times per minute, and come away with the same conclusion, because we are not used to seeing stats represented in that way.
My point was NEVER that Lou would get to the line 6 times if he played 36 minutes. My point was that per minute, he gets to the line more than Jamal. There is nothing “assumptive” or “theoretical” about that statement.

I agree, our bigs lack post moves alot mostly because they are lighter & smaller, but when they are assertive in going to the basket immediately they have the advantage with their quickness, too many times they get the ball and kinda let the D get settled.

“You still continue to completely miss the point of what I was talking about. Per-36 stats are just per-minute stats multiplied by 36. The only reason they post per-36 stats instead of per-minute stats is because per-36 stats are easier to understand” – Najeh Davenpoop @5:39pm, 12/21/2012
Yeah, and you’re “missing the point” that a player’s “per-minute” stats are derived from (or are calculated by using) that particular player’s “actual”/real stats.
I’m done. You refuse to see (and/or understand) the “obvious.”
——————————————————————————————————
You’re also “missing the point” that when you multiply “per-minute” stats by 36, you are “projecting” (actual) “per-minute” stats (out) to “Per 36 Minutes” stat(istic)s.
Now, I’m REALLY done.

High-Sider, if you don’t understand 4th grade math, it is going to be awfully tough for me to teach you over an Internet blog. But like I said about 500 times already, there is nothing “theoretical” about per-minute stats. Divide Lou’s total number of free throw attempts by the minutes he has played and you get per-minute stats. Divide it by the games he has played and you get per-game stats. It’s that simple. No “theory” or “assumption” involved.

You haven’t even explained what you mean by “actual stats”. You are just using random words to describe whatever you feel like. I still haven’t gotten one clear explanation from you regarding why it “real” OK to divide total free throws by total games played, but “theoretical” to divide total free throws by total minutes played. Someone who has Synergy should try to see what percentage of the Sixers’ half court buckets resulted at least in part from a bigger Sixer matched up on a smaller Hawk. I’d guess at least 75% of them. And it’s not necessarily because they are a bigger team; in many cases, it’s just because they keep setting screens until they get a favorable matchup and patiently exploit it. Very similar to what the Bucks did against the Hawks in the playoffs a couple of years ago.

FYI, I have a Finance and Banking degree from a (supposedly) top-tier state university. In pursuing my bachelor’s degree, I have taken pre-Calculus, Finite Mathematics, Calculus I & II, Statistical Analysis I & II, various finance courses that involve/require a heavy concentration of higher mathematics (e.g., Management of Financial Institutions, International Finance, Investments in Finance, Corporate Finance, Accounting Financial Statements Analysis, etc.), Intermediate Micro- and Macro-economics, and various accounting courses.
To heck with you and your condescending attitude. Your name-calling as well as your attempt to belittle/disparage me doesn’t make you right or correct. If you do not or refuse to understand words/terms such as “extrapolate” and “project,” then that’s your problem – not mine.
