Vivlamore reporting from Washington, D.C.
UPDATE: Anthony Morrow will not play against the Wizards as he continues to experience soreness in his back. “We are going to rest him tonight due to the soreness in his back,” coach Larry Drew said. “We’ll take the extra precautionary measures.”
I asked Drew if the loss of Morrow would tempt him to play DeShawn Stevenson, whom he would like to rest for tomorrow’s game against the Thunder. Stevenson will dress. “In terms of the game plan of (Stevenson) playing or not playing, I was hoping (Morrow) would be able to play. So, we’ll just see how the game goes.”
—-
The Hawks will go with a starting lineup of Jeff Teague, Devin Harris, Kyle Korver, Josh Smith and Al Horford against the Wizards tonight.
There are two reasons for the unit, according to coach Larry Drew.
With a game at home against Oklahoma City tomorrow, Drew may not play DeShawn Stevenson. The veteran swingman and defensive stalwart does not play in back-to-back games and Drew would likely rather have him against the Thunder. By not starting Stevenson, Drew can monitor whether he needs to use him.
“There is a possibility that we will limit his minutes,” Drew said. “There is a possibility he will not play. We will make that decision right before game time.”
Drew also likes the lineup for matchup reasons.
“We have two guys who really push the basketball,” Drew said. “Kyle gets up and down the floor and is a spot-up guy. I think our matchups are pretty good with both Jeff and Devin. They are not very big at the 3 so we can go a little smaller.”
* Drew said the status of guard Anthony Morrow would be a game-time decision. Morrow, who has been suffering from a sore back, went through the team shoot-around Tuesday. Drew said he was still experiencing some soreness.
* The Hawks enter the game having won 17 of the past 18 games against the Wizards, including both games this season. Drew is wary that his team does not take the Wizards lightly.
“They are a very physical team with Nene, (Emeka) Okafor and (Kevin) Seraphin,” Drew said. “They have guys who can score the ball. … They are a very capable ball club. The last thing you can do is come into a game like this and underestimate this team. Forget the record. You have to go out and play this team with a sense of urgency. That is going to be the message tonight.”

Hey, did anyone else watch Minny play Orlando last night on League Pass? I know no one wants to bring race into the dicussion, but bare with me….Minny is a fun team to watch. Nene is barely healthy, doesn’t play in back-to-back games, has had a limit on the number of minutes he plays in each game and is coming off the bench because Wittman is hoping for some stability in his starting line-up. He has had some decent games but certainly hasn’t prduced like he does when healthy. And like another undersized center, Nene is not much of a shot-blocker… even when he is healthy.
The Wizards should be looking to trade either nene or Okafor in the coming months. Seraphin should be getting at least 32 minutes/game (when not in foul trouble). I’m not interested in either for the Hawks, just a comment about tonight’s opponent.

303, the minny’s have been attacked by the fact. they also tried to get “of color” players but were rejected and said so in their own defense. meanwhile, lin an asian heresy in a union, gets racist comments by brothers. also criticized for his contract by melo and jr saying it was too big. nobody said dirt when jj got better contracts than heat big three. go figure.
lin did what they told him to do like we did with josh, go find a contract and we will match. when will it end? reverse racism always is a numbing one.

A win against the Wizards is more then a possibility unless stupidity takes hold. Lets see, if a certain person rebounds, defends and gets his points off put backs and not standing outside the 3 point line then the HAWKS have a good possibility of winning this game. Is that too much to hope for? oh yeah, he needs to play a lil defense also. Al will be fine, he will give Nene a battle. I say lets start IVAN at PF, Al at center and hopefully that nuddy buddy at SF will play with some sense, if not then the HAWKS gotta big prob if those outside shots are not dropping. LD needs to make a statement about stupid play, if not and the launcher does his thing and goes 4 for 22 then the Wizards will win by 30. Sounds far fetched? Lets see what the wanna be superstar does and if he hinders the team. Maybe he looked at his 1-12 and will decide not to be ignorant. Ha ha gotchaaaaaaaaaaaa.

I think I read somewhere that Adelman is already planning his retirement when his contract expires, so the T’wolves need to make their run in the next 1-2 seasons or find another top-shelf head coach (which isn’t very easy). of course, keeping their top 2-3 players healthy would be a good place to start.

Kevin Durant has never beaten the Hawks by double digits in his entire career and is 5-5 against the Hawks in his career. Maybe that is just coincidence, but for whatever reason the Hawks have always been competitive with Durant’s teams, regardless of whether one player or another is injured. I don’t know if the Hawks will win tomorrow night, but I think the game will be competitive.

Based on Lin’s lackluster season so far, Melo and JR appear to be right. Lin calls his critics racist, but the race thing goes both ways — dude isn’t even a top 10 guard in the West and has a serious shot at getting voted into the All Star game. I don’t condone the racism but I am not that surprised that people in the league are somewhat resentful at the outsized amount of attention and praise he has gotten. He has benefited from his race the exact same way Tim Tebow has benefited from his religious beliefs.

MsDee, I had to look long term. I’m missing the game because my wife is really busy this week and does not want to go. So, instead of her going when she really didn’t want to, I sold the tickets on stubhub.
I guess it’s sort of like managing a pitcher in baseball. Don’t want them to to work too many innings. Need them to last the entire season and have a long career. My wife is a good sport. Goes to games with me all the time (including two road games: @Charlotte in November and Brooklyn in March). Gives me no grief on buying season tickets every year. Don’t want to burn her out. Got a lot of games left, plus a long postseason (right?!). Just had to scrafice this one.
Good thing there was a decent stubhub market.

Has more to do with the mismatch that is Ibaka for all other teams. But for Hawks he is not a mismatch. Josh takes care of him and neutralizes him. While Al can handle their centers(Perkins, Thabeet, Collison). Add Teague and his speed to mix, and Hawks are a nightmare match-up for OKC.
OKC should still be favored because of Westbrook and Martin, but not a huge favorite like against other teams.

Najeh it may have been a shooting star but you aren’t giving the kid cred for what he did which was to revive a dead brand and team that was lost until he got on the court. If he hasn’t done what he did they would not have been in a position to be in the playoffs.
He may not be a one hit wonder as he and harden figure it out. No slouch walks in and does 22 and nine dimes in the garden under pressure and not have some skill. His contract is no more absurd than JJ’s and I counter Lin’s will have more worth to it in the end in comparison. It was quite a put down by those guys and he has a target on and people and players not wanting him to succeed much like Jackie Robinson did because of his race and accolades. That is my point as well. Rationalize all you want folks have done that on race and gender for a long time.

Partly, sure. But at the same time, I don’t see the reigning NL Cy Young winner getting the kind of national love that Lin got, despite also being an underdog in NYC. And I definitely don’t think he is 3rd in the West among guards in All Star voting if not for his ethnicity. Just saying it works in his favor at least as much as it works to his detriment, that’s all.

You aren’t giving Woody enough cred[it] for what he [Woody] did with the Knicks from last season to present. The Knicks [squad] is currently a No. 1 seed in the East. You don’t even give Woody enough credit for what he did with the Hawks. Come on, man. Crowds yelled the N word at Jackie Robinson in unison. How many crowds were yelling chink at Lin? Dude got standing ovations in opposing arenas last year. It’s not even close to the same.
Lin had a target on him because he was being hyped way beyond his level of production, which in turn was at least in part because of his ethnicity. Yao Ming saw some early resentment when he was getting voted into All Star games, but most of that dissipated once he evolved into a player who actually deserved to start the All Star game. If Lin develops into that player, I figure you’ll probably see a lot of the resentment towards him dissipate as well.
I’d also argue the Amare signing and Melo trade revived the Knicks’ brand a lot more than a 16-10 stretch with Lin at the helm did.

Jamal was a better shooter off the dribble, but Lou gets to the free throw line at a much higher rate. 9/9 at the line. He hasn’t been consistent enough for me but I’d rather have a guy who can get to the line, especially on this team.

The problem isn’t his jumper as much as his release point. He has shown he can make shots at a decent rate, but he can’t make them off the dribble because they get blocked too often since he releases the ball so low.

On a per minute basis Lou gets to the line more, which matters because Jamal plays more minutes than Lou. But the difference between the two hasn’t been as great this year, because Lou’s rate of getting to the line is down while Jamal is getting to the line at his highest rate in five years.

“We’re talkin’ a difference of 0.6 FTA/game – less than one FTA/game. Where’s the [big] significance? It all basically washes/cancels itself out because Crawford is currently a better FT shooter than Lou Williams.”
Over his career, Lou has been significantly better at getting to the line. Lou averages 6 FTA/game for his career; Jamal is at 3.9. Jamal has averaged over 5 FTA/game once in his career; Lou has been over 6 FTA/game in two of the last three seasons. So far this year, the difference hasn’t been as pronounced, but over their careers, Lou has been significantly better in that department.
Regardless, I liked Jamal as a Hawk, and I’m not going to go overboard arguing for Lou over Jamal. I just think Lou is a better fit for this particular Hawks team because nobody else on this team gets to the free throw line consistently.
