I don’t know why, but hey I am happy for Al. I know a lot of people on the blogs don’t like him, but l have said on several blogs, at C – Al is pretty good. He is not he best, but he is a top center.

Hawks: 2nd in points allowed in the league. 5th in assists. 6th in steals per game. #1 in defensive efficiency per Marc Stein….7th in the NBA power rankings. Shoutout to the Hawks man!!! SHoutout to the front court of Josh, Al, Zaza, & Ivan. Shoutout to the front court of Lou, Devin, & Teague. To the guys in the middle: Morrow, Desean, & Korver.

aj,

my comments were based on the relative value of ld to woody who made maybe 4 mil his last 3 yrs with the hawks on the 2008 contract he signed. i imagine he was thinking raise and the asg were thinking a better value guy at 20 cents on the dollar for same outcome.

that was my point and why i said “over valued”. ultimately in the knicks market woody got back to that level according to reports on his most recent contract with them. based on what they were paying d’antoni, woody is of greater relative value to them at maybe 50 to 75 cents on the dollar relative value to the previous coach.

per victory LD is probably one of the best values out there.maybe brooks with okc, or thibs in the same value category.

wow, cant believe that. sort of modest averages to get player of the week, I guess they wanted to pick someone from team that had a good week. But it gives further creedance to the thought that Al is regarded highly among NBA circles. Probably moreso than Josh is.

This [Eastern Conference Player of the Week Award/Honor] makes Al Horford the front-runner in representing the Hawks for the 2013 All-Star selection over Josh Smith and Jeff Teague.

I am glad the Hawks’ member got the title. However, in my opinion, Teague was deserving that title – he played with increased confidence and intelligence.

It seems the previous blog is closed for comments but wanted to ask CV the following question:
Hawks hired coach from New York (forgot his name), the one who helped Lin to became the player he is now. I am wondering, whether there is his contribution to Teague’ present success as well…

Good to see Al get the award. Also happy to see the Hawks playing so well although they have given away at least two games. . I think we are a solid sf away from being a even better team.

I believe this is more of a team award since we’ve won 5 straight. Al was probably the most consistent during the streak so he got the award.

If Al Horford and Josh Smith currently shot 82% from the FT line this 2012 – 2013 season:

Through 11 games [played], Al Horford has made 17-of-36 (0.472) free throws and Josh Smith has made 14-of-32 (0.438) free throws.

Al Horford:

0.82 x 36 = 29.52
29.52 – 17 = 12.52
12.52 / 11 = 1.138
15.9ppg + 1.138ppg = 17.038ppg

17.04ppg is what Al Horford could be currently averaging if he shot 82% from the FT line.

Josh Smith:

0.82 x 32 = 26.24
26.24 – 14 = 12.24
12.24 / 11 = 1.112
15.2ppg + 1.11ppg = 16.31ppg

16.31ppg is what Josh Smith could be currently averaging if he shot 82% from the FT line.

If the above calculations are incorrect, please advise [me].

high sider unless that weekly honor comes from votes by fans or coaches it doesnt mean anything. as it is probably by writers it signifies nothing in terms of projected all star recognition.

modest averages? really?

How many other players averaged 16.5 points AND 9.8 rebounds AND 4.5 assists?

Since these averages are so modest, I am guessing you can find at least a dozen other players in the league that put up stat lines as good or better than Al’s. …

Congrats to the 2X All-Star. Individual achievement starts with team success. As a 2X college national champion, Al knows that very well.

Now how about knocking down 65% of your free throws this week (on the way back to a mid 70s free throw shooter)?

hs what is the point? neither guy has ever shot ft at that rate have they?

if jj had avg 10 ft a game while here he would have been top ten nba player and deserving of the contract. he didnt and wasnt.

if i was 8 inches taller i might have had an nba career. i didnt so i played baseball in college.

what is with the ifs?

Agree with Najeh, nice to see the Hawks get some national love. Al would have had a better week if he could hit some freethrows. His shot seems to be off in comparison to other years. I don’t think any other big runs the floor or runs as well without the ball as Al does though.
