Hawks go for five consecutive wins tonight against Clippers without Harris

The Hawks (7-4) will go for their fifth consecutive win in tonight’s game against the Clippers (8-4) at Philips Arena. Los Angeles will be trying to avoid its third consecutive loss.

The Hawks will be without Devin Harris, who is dealing with an injured left big toe. Harris’ status is day to day. In addition, coach Larry Drew said they are monitoring DeShawn Stevenson, as they normally do when playing the second of back-to-back games.

Coach Larry Drew said the keys for the Hawks will be to:

  • Match their physicality;
  • Defend the pick and roll, particularly the “hard rolls” of DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin, which lead to momentum-changing dunks;
  • Don’t “be seduced” by jump shots. He wants them to push the ball, as they have done during the winning streak.

The starting line up for the Hawks:

Zaza Pachulia 6.3 ppg

Al Horford 16.2 ppg

Kyle Korver 11.3 ppg

Josh Smith 15.0 ppg

Jeff Teague 13.3 ppg

Clippers (probable):

Caron Butler 9.2 ppg

Willie Green 6.0 ppg

Blake Griffin 17.4 ppg

DeAndre Jordan 10.8 ppg

Chris Paul 15.5 ppg

The Clippers defeated the Hawks 89-76 in their only other meeting earlier this year, but the Hawks have won three consecutive games against L.A. at Philips.

8-4 is a nice record — better than I expected. And we have beaten a few good teams.

I had no idea how it would start given the changes made, so far so good.

Josh’s game is fine but he should shoot from the outside in spots — sometimes takes too many threes, for the most part cannot complain at all about his game. He is hitting his prime and we need him this yr and beyond.

Hawks are the 3 seed in the East. 1/2 game ahead of Brooklyn, 1/2 game behind the Knicks, and one game behind Miami pending their game. Can’t decide whether this or the Thunder game was their most impressive win so far.

I like this team a lot! Tonights starting lineup should be the main starting lineup except when facing smaller teams. However, in order to do that the team needs a big backup center (not Petro) to help in defense and rebounding. One cheap alternative I like is to trade with Denver for Mozgov for a 2nd Rd pick and Petro (to make the $ work). They are both expiring contracts

I don;t think Jenkins has done much to impress LD — the rookie has alot to learn about playing this game.

Wasted first round pick?????? It would not be the first time its happened, but he was supposed to be this and that as a sharp shooter, etc.

Makes me wonder what they saw in him.

It concerns me that when those guys hit the floor, you have to cross your fingers that somebody would atleast hit one FG. Didn’t happen tonight.

Jeff Teague with 19 and 11 [points and assists].

Zaza Pachulia with 19 and 12 [points and rebounds].

I tip my hat to you [two], sirs.

Hawks sink the Clips, 104 – 93.

The key to this team being very good is Jeff Teague. If he plays like hes capable. Were a Superstar player away from being a Championship contender. Our team matched up well against everyone in thos league as is.

Whether we agree or not, if the Hawks are a top 4 team at the end of the season, LD is going to be near the top of most people’s Coach of the Year ballots.

I don’t think he’s a great coach but he isn’t a major liability either. He does some things well and some things poorly.

Regardless of how well the Hawks do this year under Larry Drew’s leadership, I will always point to his asinine treatment of Teague the previous two seasons as the true measure of Drew’s competence as a coach.

If it were not for the Bibby trade and the injury to Hinrich in the playoffs I’d be tempted to wonder if Teague would even be starting right now.

I think LD doesnt get enough credit. Is he a Phil Jackson, Greg Popovich or a Doc Rivers. I say no. I woild take those two, Avery Johnson, Carlisle, & Maybe Dude in Memphis. If u say u can find a better coach in the league better than those guys, your fooling yourself. Scottie Brooks aint bad as well.

I’ve said several times before, even before the season started, that I really like this team and it’s the best team we’ve had in over a decade. Teague is playing with so much confidence that he’s making it look so easy. I have to take my hat off to Josh for playing within himself and really playing solid on both ends of the court.

This team is not only scoring well, but playing some solid DEF. Who was it that predicted this team would be unable to defend without JJ and Marvin? And I believe he also said we’d be unable to close out gms because we didn’t have anyone to take the big shot. I wonder if he’s willing to identify himself now.

And what do those who whined about us not being able to win because we’re so undersized, especially in the backcourt, have to say now?

This is a veteran playoff team. They will be top 4 again easily. I like this team more than I liked last years. Injuries can make the season get tough, but barring a major one, this team wins 45-50 easily. They figured each other out. U can tell from the last two games the way the pass the rock.

We are an Al Jefferson away from the eastern conference finals. Horford for Jefferson would be nice. Josh and Devin for Pau?

PF/C Pau Gasol
PF/C Al Jefferson
SF Ivan Johnson
SG Kyle Korver
PG Jeff Teague

This gives us 5 players who can score the Basketball and take intelligent shots! We can only dream of this all-star line-up.
