Hawks go for five consecutive wins tonight against Clippers without Harris

The Hawks (7-4) will go for their fifth consecutive win in tonight’s game against the Clippers (8-4) at Philips Arena. Los Angeles will be trying to avoid its third consecutive loss.

The Hawks will be without Devin Harris, who is dealing with an injured left big toe. Harris’ status is day to day. In addition, coach Larry Drew said they are monitoring DeShawn Stevenson, as they normally do when playing the second of back-to-back games.

Coach Larry Drew said the keys for the Hawks will be to:

  • Match their physicality;
  • Defend the pick and roll, particularly the “hard rolls” of DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin, which lead to momentum-changing dunks;
  • Don’t “be seduced” by jump shots. He wants them to push the ball, as they have done during the winning streak.

The starting line up for the Hawks:

Zaza Pachulia 6.3 ppg

Al Horford 16.2 ppg

Kyle Korver 11.3 ppg

Josh Smith 15.0 ppg

Jeff Teague 13.3 ppg

Clippers (probable):

Caron Butler 9.2 ppg

Willie Green 6.0 ppg

Blake Griffin 17.4 ppg

DeAndre Jordan 10.8 ppg

Chris Paul 15.5 ppg

The Clippers defeated the Hawks 89-76 in their only other meeting earlier this year, but the Hawks have won three consecutive games against L.A. at Philips.

“What a difference no isolations can do for a team.”

Real talk. I didn’t stop to think about it much until I saw that post, but I can’t remember them clearing out for a perimeter player yet this year. Maybe for Lou once or twice, but that’s about it.

Safe to say Lou has won the Lou-Jamal matchup.

Jamal Crawford’s lack of effort on defense is “wearing thin” with Chris Paul. I sense friction between the two [Crawford and Paul].

How are you feeling about Korver’s performance so far, Najeh? He’s doing exactly what Marvin couldn’t do: Excel at his strengths. Also helps that he grabs a handful of steals a game on D, I think.

Hopefully Jenkins and Scott play better than the last time they got to play when they inevitably check in during garbage time.

Ivan does not flop. He takes man-sized charges. Shame the ref cannot recognize it for what it is. He might have been late for the first charge he took tonite, but he’s been on point all season for the most part.

Lou trying to run the point is very reminiscent of Kirk trying to do it last year.

Couldn’t be happier with his performance so far. He opens up a lot of things for the offense with his shooting and off the ball movement, and this team has the personnel to compensate for his less than stellar man to man defense.

LD should never go itno that slow down offense while the opposing team is still playing their starters. Makes no sense to hold the ball until 3-4 seconds left on the shot clock at this stage of the game. Keep being aggressive.

When your the quickest man on the court you control the defense and have a huge advantage.

JT has the advantage!

Too many turnovers. The downside of an offense that emphasizes ball movement.

Hawks need to slow this game down a little. Run some post ups and get to the foul line.
