Hawks go for five consecutive wins tonight against Clippers without Harris

The Hawks (7-4) will go for their fifth consecutive win in tonight’s game against the Clippers (8-4) at Philips Arena. Los Angeles will be trying to avoid its third consecutive loss.

The Hawks will be without Devin Harris, who is dealing with an injured left big toe. Harris’ status is day to day. In addition, coach Larry Drew said they are monitoring DeShawn Stevenson, as they normally do when playing the second of back-to-back games.

Coach Larry Drew said the keys for the Hawks will be to:

  • Match their physicality;
  • Defend the pick and roll, particularly the “hard rolls” of DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin, which lead to momentum-changing dunks;
  • Don’t “be seduced” by jump shots. He wants them to push the ball, as they have done during the winning streak.

The starting line up for the Hawks:

Zaza Pachulia 6.3 ppg

Al Horford 16.2 ppg

Kyle Korver 11.3 ppg

Josh Smith 15.0 ppg

Jeff Teague 13.3 ppg

Clippers (probable):

Caron Butler 9.2 ppg

Willie Green 6.0 ppg

Blake Griffin 17.4 ppg

DeAndre Jordan 10.8 ppg

Chris Paul 15.5 ppg

The Clippers defeated the Hawks 89-76 in their only other meeting earlier this year, but the Hawks have won three consecutive games against L.A. at Philips.

our offense works better with lou off the ball as a shooter, when he plays pg doesn’t get others involved as much as JT

Al is now 1 for his last 12 and 4 for his last 17 from the foul line. He is now below 50% for the season.

2 foul rule? No, Josh is just a bricked jump shot waiting to happen.

“I’ll mention what DOC said about Drew admitting he made mistake in cutting DJames and KBenson in favor of JPetro and ATolliver.”

He said this WHEN??

“You bloggers [and I, for that matter,] can’t keep calling for LD’s firing [termination] if he [LD] keeps winning.”

Hawks record inflated against weak opposition.
———————————————————————————-

So, I guess the Lakers’ record (of 6 – 7 {0.462}) [is] deflated against strong [or superior] opposition?

Don’t know what’s up with Al and his free throws. Also the team seems to play better without Josh. Always loved Josh, but he doesn’t seem to get it yet. If LA wants him, I would take him for Gasol, but not with Korver. Throw somebody else in with that trade.

Basketball-reference.com rates the Hawks’ schedule so far as 14th toughest in the league. This is their 5th game of the season against a team that is currently in the playoffs (although Portland is only a half game out, and Houston is only 1 game out). I’d say their strength of schedule is about average.

They need to give Korver options when he comes off those screens and catches the ball. Teams like the Heat and Bulls will swarm him and force him to give it up. That time the Hawks had nobody on his side of the floor for him to pass the ball. He has shown in the past that he is good at finding teammates in those situations.

A right-hand hook shot by Josh?

If Josh could develop something with his right hand it would do so much for his game. For one thing it would cut down on the jump shots dramatically.

What an impressive quarter. This big lineup is looking really good. Zaza doing dirty work defensively and Teague is really taking charge on the offensive end.

How sad is it that even the ajc doesn’t value the Hawks that much. They have the Falcons at the top of the sports page, with the Braves under it, then the Hawks. The Braves aren’t even playing in Spring Training, and they’re still getting a higher bid than the Hawks.

No party for the Clips, give credit where it is due. The good guys are playing some great D. If what Josh said is true, and this team is really hitting its stride, it will be really tough for this team to be beaten. Progress from Teague combined with very good shooters and three good big men is trouble for a lot of teams.

What a difference no isolations can do for a team.
