Atlanta Hawks: Exhibition season gets started

Vivlamore reporting from Philips Arena.

While I will no doubt be wrong about many things, I was right about at least one thing. The Hawks starting lineup today against the Heat will be Jeff Teague, DeShawn Stevenson, Kyle Korver, Josh Smith and Al Horford (see yesterday’s blog).

Two players, nursing injuries, will not play today. Center Zaza Pachulia (groin) and guard Devin Harris (knee) are being held out. Both have been limited practice participants during training camp. Coach Larry Drew said he was “almost certain” each would be able to play during the exhibition season.

“Both guys are feeling really good,” Drew said. “I personally want to keep it like that.”

Drew said he plans to use several different starting lineups during the preseason. On starting the preseason with Stevenson and Korver, Drew said “I really want to see those guys work together. We have two new guys in the starting lineup. … I really want to see how guys work with different combinations.”

For the Heat, the starters will be Norris Cole, Mike Miller, LeBron James, Shane Battier and Chris Bosh.  Dwyane Wade will not play. As of an hour and a half before the game, coach Eric Spoelstra said he was still deciding who else would be available.

Maybe we can move Michael Turner to the Hawks. He is not helping the Falcons much!!!

I would like to see Al Horford get up to about 265lbs. He needs a little more size to compete at his position.

Game info

- Go the thefirstrow ( dot ) eu
- Click on Basketball
- Find the ATL vs MIA game, and click on that

( NOTE: If you don’t have a good pop-up blocker installed on your computer, you may have to wait for multiple ads to clear from your screen. Some of them you can’t immediately click off, you may have to wait 30 seconds. If you DO have a good pop-up blocker, it should go right to the feed. )

It will be Miami announcers and the Sun Network you’re watching.

Starters

PG – Teague
G – Stevenson
F – Korver
PF – Smith
C – Horford

Lebron is playing PF, so Smith is matched up with him. Josh makes his first long 2.

And WTF Atlanta? Battier makes a 3, and a big cheer goes up? SMH. Are there more Heat fans at a preseason game than Hawks fans? Wow.

Besides “FirstRow Sports” [thefirstrow.eu] website, what are some other websites that have a “clear” stream for this game and other pro games?

BTW, Jamal Crawford scored 19 points (7-14 from the field) off the bench for the Clippers last night against the Nuggets; [the Hawks] could’ve had Jamal Crawford. He scored eight straight points in the fourth quarter.

High-Sider . . . we all know who Jamal is. If he could consistently play anywhere near that level on a nightly basis, then people would gladly bring him back.

Unfortunately, Jamal may go 4 – 21 in his next 2 games, and only score 12 points total.

That’s the problem with that dude . . . consistency.

Yeah, but Josh Smith is an undersized 4 at 6′8″ just like Horford is an undersized 5 at 6′9″/6′10″.

Undersized has nothing to do with being able to get blocks. Ben Wallace was undersized as a 6 – 9 . . 240 lbs center . . but was an absolute terror as a shot blocker.

Shot blocking is about position and timing. Not size.

With Zaza being out, Petro being himself (ineffective, slow, etc) who exactly is supposed to be at the 4 and 5? Undersized or not, that’s our best and most effective match-up down there with Lebron also at the 4 and Bosh at the 5. Throw Petro or Benson down there and see what happens. Ivan is undersized too, he just plays bigger than he is…at the half, -4 with Ivan and -6 with Petro…we’re +6 with Josh and Al.

Lou could’ve had a monster half, had he made few more FTs.

11 points on 4 official shots is damn good.

Haters gonna hate man, he’s just on the job. All things considered we’re doing ok…Lou is 4-7 at the FT line and we’re 7-12 overall from there so that’s some points missing. I expected the Heat to be up 10+ at this point but we’re hanging in there.

—————————————————-

3 TOs though, so of course that cancels out his 6pts, 6 reb, 3 ast, and 4 blocks. He’s only taken 4 shots as of now, still 3-4. He’s looked better than I expected though. Stevenson looks like a great pickup and addition for us…Korver with 5 pts (2-7 though), 5 reb, and 3 ast too…I’m mildly impressed with what I’ve seen today overall, win or lose.
