Hawks sign Isma’il Muhammad to training camp roster (updated)

Vivlamore reporting.

I thought I saw Isma’il Muhammad around the Hawks practice facility the other day but wasn’t 100 percent sure. Now I am.

The Hawks added former Georgia Tech player Isma’il Muhammad to their training camp roster Monday. The move brings the roster to 19 players, 13 with guaranteed contracts.

The 6-foot-6 Muhammad played at Tech from 2001-05 after playing at Atlanta’s W.D. Mohammed High School.  The swingman has played professionally in Iceland, France, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, New Zealand and Venezuela. He joins former Tech teammate Anthony Morrow of the roster.

“My thought process is staying true to myself and doing what I do,” Muhammad said. “I don’t try to do what other people do. I try to bring energy. I play defense. Try to play above the rim. I’m just focusing on doing that and we’ll see what happens.”

With 13 guaranteed contracts, the Hawks have room for a maximum of two more players (not on the injured list).

“If there are two spots open, then there is an opportunity for me,” Muhammad said. “I know some other guys have more experience. Some guys do things better than me skill-wise. But I feel I bring something to the table defensively and athletically and with energy. So I’m going after one of those spots.”

Ish was a high flyer. I wondered were he had been. I really hope he makes the roster.. I really like a lot of the guys they are bringing in. I am sure they will not start the team with 15 guys on the roster. I think Ish will be in the D League.

Now if his coach that has known Josh for years can say he is a very intelligent player that sees plays before they happen, I question folks who have never met Josh and say he has a low basketball IQ.

I think Josh is just eager to win, that he goes out of his way sometimes with boneheaded plays. But he makes a lot of it back with his good plays. Slim said it best, Josh carried the Hawks when Al went out. He raised his play of game to another level, and if it wasn’t for his tantrums with refs, Josh should have been an All Star last season. I believe every team in the league would be happy to have Josh on their roster.

My Josh Smith’s prediction for this season: He will be more matured, not jack up long jumpers, ignore the refs, have a monster season, and make the All Star squad.

Wish I could make a prediction for the Hawks!

yea doc, Eli’s squad had the 27th ranked defense. Much worse defense overall than the Falcons…

But the Giants front 4 are one of the best defensive fronts in the game today..

Looking forward to the Falcons-Giants game later this year! It will be huge for the Falcons…

I hope he learned how to shot free throws. He liked to drive at Tech since he couldn’t shoot. He could jump and get fouled but never make the free throws. Of course, no one ever learned fundamentals under Paul Hewittt since he was more concerned with looking pretty.

Here’s something interesting:

“You haven’t seen the roster?” Smith turned around a reporter’s question about his long-range shooting plans on a rebuilt Hawks roster. “We’ve got Kyle Korver, Devin Harris, Louis Williams, Anthony Morrow, Anthony Tolliver. Am I missing anyone? Jeff Teague..”

Of the above players Josh named (and I assume he was impress with them), he also included Anthony Tolliver who incidentally is trying to make the roster cut. He didn’t mentioned James or Anderson so at least we know who Josh like.

With 19 guys invited to training camp, I feel a trade coming on. I don’t know who, but we will send more players than we receive. I don’t have any predictions on how the Hawks will fare this season, but it’s great to feel like the Hawks have a bright future.

slimj, i would say that eli is surrounded by a similar skill set on the line now that ryan has had to leard to live and survive with. that is not what it was like in his fourth year when he hung one up and someone caught it to win the super bowl. the line that he had in front of him was one of the best and not a luxury any qb in atl has had, ever.

theri defense carried tham last year to the super bowl that and eli’s timely passing. as far as expectations, were you calling las vegas last year arougn the 14th or 15th game to bet for the giants to win it all? football like baseball is all about getting to the tournament. it is not like the nba who have only 4 legit teams to make it all the way unless there are injuries. crazy to think the lakers have been in 31 of 66 finals isnt it? that doesnt happen in any other league that i am aware of.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1327952-new-york-giants-offensive-line-a-long-ignored-dilemma

noodle arm did him one better yesterday and still folks deride him.

those that are still living as though ryan was a rookie and playing like one must be brain dead as the experts are coming to the opinion across the board that he is huge and does things across the board that few qb’s do with the ni huddle. that is a throw back to the qb calling plays lie in the olden days and i like it, very cerebral. most that dont get it arent cerebral enough to figure that one out either are they slimj?

even if ryan wins a super bowl the bar will change to something else wont it slimj? two of the greatest qb’s i ever saw never made it to the super bowl in marino and fouts. i could live with it if that is “all” we get. ;-)

sad to think we also gave up one of the best in the league right now who was our back up in schawb as blank went all in on the guy who let him, the fans and the franchise down because he cared more about dog fighting and never was mature or disciplined enough to be a professional qb. just saying bro. let your faux falcon fan heart bleed slimj, let it bleed.

truth those other guys are not known to jack threes whereas tolliver is and that was the list he was making.

IDK, perhaps I’m just splitting hairs but

Josh’s comment (FTPB) seem to be mentioning guys more capable of shooting “long range” than him. Suggesting he will be shooting less this year (from long range). He could have mentioned other players but he didn’t.

Yes doc, he is a throw back type of QB and still has a long way to go prove it works in today’s game..

He’s got to win the big [money] games like that QB in Baltimore..He’s got 5 more playoff wins already for less than half the of price Ryan..

btw, the Falcons opponents winning percentage combined is .438… Just lousy..

Must of cost Mr. Blank a fortune to acquire this schedule.. heh,heh,heh..

Lets see how he performs in 3 weeks when he goes to Philly to battle the
Eagles..He may do just fine.. But how bout that defense? If they are giving up more than 3 TD’s a game to the scrubs imagine what they will give up to the playoff contenders…

Oh, and that O-line is starting to show its true colors too. Giving up 7 sacks to a power house like Carolina? hahaha

This new and improve version of Ryan will get tested soon enough…

truth i too get caught up some times when searching for truth by reading between the lines. i think he was simply listing guys he would probably lose money to if he decided to take them on long range. the other two guys you mentioned are not long range gunners nor are they really accomplished nba’ers. to take that vein he left jenkins off the list too didnt he? that guy maybe money but yet to be proven. i think it was more about legit nba ballers that can do the long thing not yet suggesting his preferences for teammates.

shawty like your new handle? ;-)

yeah, the wisdom for josh that shaq gave him is a long held belief by many of us bloggers as well. i dont want to hear the smoove talk but smash josh let his game do the talking. shaq hasnt been around retired long enough for these guys to glean more from him. i hope since he is town some for his job they can connect with him a bit to up their mental games. also did you hear his continued trashing of jj as a ball stopper during a recent interview? wow! he got that right.

Josh said he’s ready for the increase pressure of not having Joe around. We will see….

““This is a good thing,” Smith said. “You want to see how people respond in pressure situations. And what better situation than to trade your franchise player, a six-time All-Star, and get some quality pieces for him, and turn this thing over to the guys who have been battling right there all the time. It’s going to be added pressure on myself, Al, Jeff and some of these new guys to perform and excel. It’s going to be interesting to see how people handle it. I promise you this, I’m ready for it”

Predicted Hawks wins this season will be either a minimum record of 45 – 37 or Max of 48 – 34, and wil be seeded anywhere from 4 – 7 in the east. Could be as high as a 3 seed, but a lot would have to happern. 1. Miami 2. Boston 3. Brooklyn 4. New York 5. Indiana 6. Atlanta 7. Philadelphia 8.Chicago or Washingon. Like I said 4 thru 7 seeds could be interchangeable through out the season. but we will see.

[...] Per Chris Vivlamore at the AJC, the Hawks have added former Georgia Tech wing Isma’il Muhammad to the training camp roster. His addition brings the number of players at training camp to 19. [...]
