SportSouth will televise 75 of the 82 Hawks games during the 2012-13 NBA season, all in high definition. The network will air the season opener on Nov. 2 against the Rockets at Philips Arena.
Former Hawks star and Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins returns for his fifth straight season as the Hawks game analyst. Play-by-play announcer Bob Rathbun returns for his 17th season. Jerome Jurenovich will serve as the sideline reporter.
Before and after every televised game, SportSouth will air a 30-minute pre- and post-game segment. Andre Aldridge will host and Mike Glenn will be the analyst.

We’ll hear “Oh, that’s a heat check.” at least 150 times then. I really don’t care who the crew is, since I’m watching the actual game myself, but I do wait for Nique to pull that one out at least once a game.
They should probably mix the crew up some, but it sounds like people have problems with everyone but the Stinger. I admit I prefer these guys over the national broadcasters if given the choice, even though I like the TNT guys most of the time.

Rod i know you have a hard time agreeing with me but i already made the comment regarding the loss of the interminable and infinite home with marvin’s are a presumed huge benefit to the marvin trade. That goes for the one on jj as well. It seems that could have been a criteria for the trade as i dont think i have seen anyone else in their camera sights. Heh heh

“If it were not for the National media, would we know the refs in the NFL are replacements?”
If their abysmal officiating didn’t give it away, I think we would have figured it out when they referred to Ray Edwards as “#93 Red”, or maybe when they referred to the Falcons repeatedly as “Arizona” for an entire half.

Marc Gasol is better than All-NBA? I think not. A lot will depend on whether Josh and Al can stay healthy for an entire season. The last thing Josh wants is an injury setback in a contract year. If those two stay healthy for an entire season, they will both be top 20 next year.

Buddy G, with 2 quality point guards and three point shooters on the wing, Josh and Al should have a lot of space and opps to score down low. I agree with your assessment.

I have issues with most of our announcers just like every other Hawks fan. But if you want to gain an appreciation of how lucky we are to have what we have as announcers, just spend a little time listening to a Celtics broadcast. Tom Heinson has to be the absolute worst announcer and homer in the league.

This yr our announcers should have it a lot easier than in the past, when they had to explain away all of the
1-ISOs,
2-illadvised jumpers,
3-lack of penetration,
4-walking the ball up the court when we should be running it up
5-PFs and OCs running point on fastbreaks rather than giving it to a guard
With the recent addition of so many capable 3pt shooters(Jenkins, Korver, Morrow, Harris, Williams), I doubt if anyone, especially GM DFerr, will tolerate Josh launching those illadvised 3pointers of the past. Either he accepts his role as a primary inside scorer and lane filler on fastbreaks, or Ferry will either trade him or allow him to walk.
Ferry is definitely going to expect more control of the team and overall direction from LDrew and his players. This team doesn’t belong to any player(s), or the HC. It belongs to GM Danny Ferry. Ferry’s insistence on direction and accountability, both from players and coaches, along with the infusion of youth, speed, quickness, athleticism, versatility, depth, shooting and penetrating ability, will make for an exciting season for the Hawks and us fans.

ND – yest they make mistakes, but honestly, although they get some of the rules confused, I think they call the game a lot closer. I would say they get it right 80% of the time. The regulars about 85%. I am in sales, and if our Admin Asst went on strike, they would replace her with another fresh pretty face out of college. She would make some mistakes, but eventually with experience she will get better. If the sales team went on strike, then the $$ – or lack thereof would hurt the entire organization.
The regular refs are screwing themselves. They are about as smart as the Eastern Airline employees 30 years ago. Yet, with there departure, new people are getting an opportunity.

I’ve always heard that Heinson is awful, but that doesn’t make me feel any better about our dorks. Rathbun’s the worst because he has the skills to be smugly subtle with his huge bias. Sometimes you have to listen carefully, but soon you realize there’s a constant undertone in his play-by-play that “quietly” screams, “The refs are cheating the Hawks, and none of the Hawks ever makes a bad play or commits a dumb foul.” That crap gets real old game after game.

I challenge you to watch a WNBA NBA TV game that does not include the Dream, and comment on the broadcasting. It is horrendous.
If you think Nique is horrible, which he is except he been so bad cracks me up, anybody that pulls a dagger on Rob is just hating. Rod is a fine game caller. He wouldn’t have that job for 20 years if he wasn’t.
And if you watch the Dream games Rob has called this year as he always does, along with the most gorgeous Lachina Robinson, whom I hope to marry as soon as I can meet her, and compare those games called by broadcasters for other teams, you must appreciate what you have.
You think Rob is so bad, then give me three more broadcasters that are better on local tv. Not ESPN or TNT. I’ve seen em all.

What an ignorant comment. “You can call me Bob or you can call me Rod or you can call me Rob.” You called him all three. Who the hell are talking about anyway?
Bob (his correct name) is technically proficient but nauseatingly biased–even though he disguises it well from ignoramuses who think he’s good. And he’s had his job for 20 years because he has no problem being a butt-kissing toady.
It’s not a matter of hate; it’s a matter of professionalism. And he has very little.

For all you complaining about our current broadcasting crew, if you recall the John Sterling days, you would have dumped the TV broadcasts long ago. Sterling became very annoying at the end of games pumping up the home team being ‘nitty gritty’.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mV3ENcW5mY
This guy’s voice ruined the best run in Atlanta Hawks’ history. And for Slim, here’s Clyde by Sterling’s side.
Sterling says Spud coming in the game and we’re only going to be faster, than 2 min later, Clyde comments how much slower we’ll be with Moses and Koncak in the game at the same time.
Good stuff.

Steve Holman is very bad at describing the game, misses calls, has a xenophobic attitude, actually despises certain players (Dwayne Wade for one) and really is a poor representative for the Hawks. Plus, he does not really seem to be connected to what is going on. It would be a great benefit for the Hawks to exhibit some intelligence. Ryan Cameron also sucks, altho if he could tone down his “offensive” comments, he might be tolerable. Basketball is the game, not a bad circus act.
Really, we can chuckle and tolerate and enjoy mediocrity or we can demand intelligent, hardworking, competent people who actually do their jobs and radiate success and honesty and if not winning, at least competing and showing brains and guts. Might as well have an announcer who can do that as well.

First off Let me say that any body who is dissatisfied will Al Horford’s lack of performance, as many of you are, will be classified by me as either a hater or a troll, well in some cases both.
Why?
The logic escapes me now but, Go hawks.
Now back to you haters and trolls. I cant fully understand why you arent excited about a center who can play power forward having career numbers of 12 pt 9 rebounds. That excites the hell out of me.
You need to Join our cult and worship Al like Sautee, Ashole Joe.and myself. While its true we are a minority cult we will grow if you join us. All we ask is that you call all the bloggers on this site who are calling for Al to be traded, “haters” and anyone who is critical of Al’s weak game a “troll” then you can be one of us.
According to the GRAND POOTBUTT Sautee. Our continuing 2012 strategy of defending the many many criticisms of Al’s disgusting performances is to Attack Josh. And while its true that Josh had nothing to do with Al’s poor performance its important for us to attack Josh to help Al.
Why?
The logic escapes me now but lets move on.
Now, A lot of you have been comparing Jon Koncak with Al Horford. That may be a good comparison Although the defensive number favor Koncak and the offensive numbers Al however they are both over paid.
Now, I know that the majority of the bloggers want to get Al traded. And that my happen, but in the mean while I need All of my cult brother to ATTACK JOSH!!!!! ATTACH FCKING JOSH, ATTACK ATTACK YOU MUTHER F CKERS ATTACK !!
