Hawks request waivers on Jordan Williams (updated)

Vivlamore reporting.

The Hawks requested waivers on Jordan Williams Monday.

Williams, a 6-foot-10 forward, was obtained from Brooklyn as part of the July 11th trade for Joe Johnson. Last season with the Nets he averaged 4.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 14.8 minutes in 43 games. The Nets selected Williams in the second round of the 2011 draft out of Maryland.

There was a buyout component to the roster move. The Hawks now have 13 guaranteed contracts, including Ivan Johnson and Mike Scott. The Hawks are allowed 15 guaranteed contracts so there remains some roster flexibility. They could use the flexibility to add a player now or wait should a need or a trade arise during the season.

the hawks should pick up Greg Oden at a minimum salary (health reasons) this will give us the legit center we need I think he still can help a team as long as he’s healthy with him and big Al no one gets to the rim lets not forget Josh and his helpout blocks.

Oldhawk, from what I’ve read, Oden isn’t near ready…his words from 8/15:
“I would love to play [in 2012-13], but I’m not going to rush anything,” he said Thursday. “I need to take a year off.”

Perhaps he gets another shot at 25, but for now he’s rehabbing in Columbus.

Tracy McGrady > Kyle Korver and Korver makes 4X the change that T-Mac would get paid.

I like T-Mac backing up Josh much more.

tmac is done, as done a stack was but a few years earlier. puhlese stop the inane as there is nothing to suggest tmac is still a player kevinm, nothing. though he intimidated his coach in detroit to find an exit there, he wasnt able to do it here. t

here are no cries to get him back, none. any time he would get should go to someone younger anyway. he might latch onto a team looking for a five minute blow every few games. we need more than that.

Generally speaking, adding players at the end of their NBA career to this year’s roster seems like a waste of a roster spot. The core of this squad isn’t talented enough to be a legit contender, so winning an extra game or 3 in the regular season should be a secondary concern to evaluating young and inexpensive talent that could be brought back for the long term. In Korver’s case, he is far more likely to deliver a 2nd round draft pick in a February trade than TMac. Not to mention that Ferry expliocitly went out and acquired Korver, so there seems to be little chance that he will dump him in favor of a guy he could have had.

Rev, you do know Peyton just comeback from a career if not life threatening neck injury?

To be out of work for so long and play like he has is remarkable in itself. And he made it very interesting in the 2nd half.. If it were not for those three picks in the 1st half……..

slimj, look i like melvin, but i get the notion that sometimes even he doesnt understand what he is saying. a few president’s in my day are in the same category. now if you understand him, that may be a problem.

Oldman, Oden’s recovery is not coming along smoothly. He has alcohol abuse issues along with having an issue with his legs being different lengths. Not sure he has anything to offer at this time but this is just based on various reports coming out.
He sounds like he wants to give it another go, but he still has a lot to overcome and he is thinking it will be at least a year to get healthy.

Korver was not worth the acquisition, plain and simple.

If he’s only worth a 2nd round pick, this only proves it.

T-Mac costs 1/4th of what Korver costs, and I recall T-Mac having some good moments last year.

Kyle Korver will keep all defenses honest when he is on the floor. You can not double anyone when kyle is out there. However, i don not think that we have any players that commands a double team.???

@vava74

tjhook,

McGrady is looking for a bona fide playoff team where he can hope to give some veteran assistance and maybe go deep in the playoffs (hence the Spurs and the Knicks being the teams with whom he has worked out with).

He is not looking for lottery or #8 seed basketball.

Well tell me what’s the difference between us and the KNICKS then

You think it’s bad the AJC didn’t tell us about Ivan re-signing. At least
the Hawks have their own reporter. The Atlanta Dream of the WNBA
are going back to the playoffs again and fans are supporting them, yet
we have to read the Associated Press coverage because the AJC doesn’t
bother to cover them at all.

Not everyone loves the WNBA. True. Not everyone loves the Bulldogs either.
Yet, their coverage is if they are everyone’s favorites. Go figure.
