You’re right – Josh is great at everything … OR very good. You keep contradicting yourself so I’m not sure what you’re saying. If Josh was great offensively & defensively surely he would have made the All-Star team in 8 years don’t you think?
Ferry insert himself as head coach – You will be blogger of the year for sure if that happens. I would be all for a new coach but don’t see the need for one quite yet. I remember when Drew took over & the team was running his offense initially – they looked pretty good. Eventually “Iso-Joe” took over and the rest is history.
This team is full of very good jump shooters which is a nice set-up for this offense. We’ll see….

So, Buddy, THAT is your entire reason for thinking he wants to be a coach?
LMFAO. We can disagree on this one. I don’t think he wants to coach even for a second. He’s got his dream job, following his dad’s footsteps.

Sautee, Ferry has made multiple comments stating affirmatively how he expects the Hawks to play this year. Many of Ferry’s comments are contrary to the style that we’ve come to expect from Drew. So unless he’s just trying to establish a basis to eventually fire Drew and replace him with another coach, I think it’s very possible that Ferry is thinking like a coach because he wants to follow in Popovich’s footsteps, not his dad’s.

As far as Ferry not having coaching experience, how much head coaching experience does Jaque Vaughn have? NBA teams hire former players as coaches all the time, regardless of their level of experience.

And Buddy, as far as the comments that Ferry has made, to me it’s just a continuation of his evaluation of where the team was, and where he’d like it to be. No different than the need for a development program, or a more pro-active training staff. That’s my opinion.

Exactly, Sautee. I think Ferry understands the game and what is best case scenario given a set of circumstances. In other words he is a strategist which makes him the perfect GM. He may take more of a role is establishing, and optimizing, but he’s not your X/O’s type of guy. I expect he will exert strong leadership and Mentor/coach Drew but not the players. I’m sure he and Drew have agreed on the outlook for the team moving forward and that’s why he can relay what the team’s prospectus is this year.
Having said that is also worth the note, I don’t think he is sold on Drew as a coach or as a leader, which is why he speaks in the place where coaches normally speak. I think the message is clear. If you expect to have an extended career with the Hawks, Drew better learn to speak Ferry and get a better understanding of the game.
From players stand point, I think Ferry is also saying that this is Josh’s team right now, and Drew needs to recognize that too. Drew may not be the coach if Ferry puts D12 and Josh together….. I’m just saying….

The forwards who I would like to see invited to join us:
1) Al thornton
2) Josh Childress
Childress has gotten a thorough taste of humble pie in the last two seasons and I’m sure he’d like to show the league that he still has a lot to offer an organization. As horrible as he was for Phoenix, his offensive and defensive skill were not that horrible for us. I think he can be the wing man we crave that will take pressure off of our primary ballhandlers and shooters. Plays well without the ball and get to the hole via dribble penetration. Just needs to improve basics like shooting and strengths. With top level shooters on squad now, Childress can get remedial training on proper shot form

Sautee, unless, Drew coaches past the 2nd round or has a great series hes a gone(r) I cant see him coaching anywhere past next year. More, I don’t think he will make it in the NBA as anything more than an assistant coach after this tenure. Woody was a much better coach.
The normal wait time for coaches after they are fired from a position is a minimum of 2 years before another team takes a chance on them. The good coaches come back 2 – 4 years later, the worst ones go on to oblivion….

Mc alot of my concerns with Teague and other players playing time was not their total mins played at end of game but more so where they played those mins. A lot of time with Teague in crucial moments of the gm teague would be out and hinrich or pargo would be in. The momentum would either be shifting from us or crucial times down the strecth he would be on the bench while those two would be forcing offense getting burned on defense I saw that piicture so many times last year surprizing to see MC has yet to address Drew or Ferry about that aspect with Teague and others. I can see the same thing happining this yr Teague starts off hot in a gm and then is the first too the bench like he’s not young and he’s needs a rest before everyone else. The biggest issue of our offseason is the management of Drews rotations which thus has been terrible so far! MC you need to address this with Ferry and Drew and not sugarcoat it either. Im not saying go in hard but share some brutally honest opinions that’’s been shared on these blogs regarding that topic. With that being said I think Ferry recognizes this before allstar break and he takes over the coaching for the rest of the yr he will feel that Drew is in over his head and not championship material. He fails too often to make adjustments to counter what the opposing team’s coach is running on the floor. Ferry will see this and Drew will be let go around All-Star break or definitly at the end of the yr!!!!

I still don’t get why you guys dis on Al. All season while he was hurt you would of thought he couldn’t guard Koncak by tracking this blog. When he came back for playoffs everybody got shut up when he played well despite being out all season. Al is a warrior and the reason this team will be better than expected next season. My biggest concern is perimeter defense because Joe was a Big part of that for us. Only guy Al can’t guard is Dwight and that is far from embarrassing.
Lot of good shooters on this team and if we stay healthy and get Ivan we will hold our own on the boards. Not that important who starts but you might see a surprise starter at 2 or 3 so we can bring some scoring punch off the bench. Stevenson? Or we could trade shooter for more of a slasher.

“When he came back for playoffs everybody got shut up when he played well despite being out all season” – Payaso
Al came into camp out of shape and tried to speed rush his way into to NBA conditioning which directly led to his Major injury that knocked out his season.
While every one else had to work extremely hard to make a run at the playoffs Al rested.
By the time the 2nd round of the playoffs arrived, injuries were taking its toll on players around the NBA Players were exhausted and worn down from labor.
Enter Al horford the most rested man in the playoffs into the 5th game of the second round With the expectations that he would dominate and overwhelm the tired bodies and the OLD men AKA Boston Celtics.
Instead of overwhelming Al was only marginally better than his career average (15pts),which is 12pt 8 rbs there was nothing great about Al’s performance. Actually it was substandard when you consider it was after a full season of rest and he was playing against tired old men. He should have shined, put up 30 or 40 pts and pulled down 18-25 rebounds.and won the series. Instead he averaged 15,8rbs, 1blk and 4 turnovers. And you want me to celebrate that s hit? Really?
With all that rest and playing against tired old men in the, 5th 6th and 7th games of the 2nd round, the best Al could do was add 3 pts to his career average. Period. That’s it. End of playoff, for the hawks. 6′ 10″ 260lb dud.
You really want me to celebrate that s hit?
I hope they trade you when they trade Al for making such a stupid preposition.

You idiots call a substandard performance “playing well” How in the hell can you win 6′10 1/2″ 260lbs Al Horford has 7 turnovers in the 6th pivot game of the 2nd round?
That’s why we lost. Al gave the game away with 7 turnovers.

T-s, you really think he could have “pulled down 18-25 rebounds” playing next to Josh who was averaging 13-14? Those nimbers don’t add up. Not to mention that while Horford may have been fresher than some, he also had a year’s worth of rust. Is it truly possible for ANY NBA player to play his first game of the year, and out produce others who are already used to playoff intensity?
I think those expectations are unrealistic. That’s my opinion.
By the way, Al’s career statistics are 12.8 ppg and 9.5 rpg.
You consistently understate Al’s rebounds by 1.5 rpg
T-s, let me ask you a question:
How would you react to a blogger saying that Josh only rebounded at 6.4 rpg for his career?
That’s subtracting the 1.5 that you don’t credit Al EVERY TIME you talk about him. I personally don’t think you would let that stand, and neither would I. So I’m defending Al the same way I would defend Josh. I hope you can respect that.
For Whom the Bell Toll

12:20 pm
Sautee, I agree, Al waits around for Josh to play defense then picks up the rebound and tries to pad his stats. I also agree it would be nice if Al would apply the defense for a change instead of waiting for Josh or some one else to defend the rim. Al is the biggest man on the court for the hawks and all he is doing is free loading rebounds.
Rust? really? LMAO.
By the time Al put on that 7 turnover performance it was the 6th game of the series and Al’’s 3rd playoff game. Funny, Al turns the ball over 7 times in 1 game and you highlight that I missed Al’s career rebound stat by 1… SMFH! Aint that some s hit.

“I also agree it would be nice if Al would apply the defense for a change instead of waiting for Josh or some one else to defend the rim.” – T-s
Funny how at least 4 NBA Head Coaches disagree. In Al’s last full season, he received 7 votes, including 3 first team votes for All-Defensive Team. This is that same amount of votes that Josh received (which in my mind was a travesty for Josh to receive so few votes).
But this is NOT Josh vs. Al, as so many have tried to portray. This is an acknowledgement that Horford, despite your opinion, was considered by SOME knowledgeable observers as being not just ok on defense, but worthy of accolades. That’s a fact.
http://www.examiner.com/article/2011-all-defensive-team-announced
Your opinion is worth the same as any blogger on here. But your opinion cannot change facts. And the fact is, that in Al’s last full season, he was among those considered for the 2011 NBA All-Defensive Team. In fact he had more votes than Shane Battier, Serge Ibaka, and Thabo Sefalosha, all noted defensive players.
T-s, I’m not forgetting Al’s soft and pitiful play in the 2011 playoffs. He’s still got a lot to prove to me. But to act like he’s a defensive sieve when he got votes for All-Defense is…, well let’s just say it’s your opinion.
As far as the 7 turnover thing, that was between you and Hawkfan. So when you say I “highlighted” that you are misquoting Al’s stats without mentioning the 7 tos, you are in error, since you and I had never even discussed the tos.
So, I’ll be GLAD to discuss Horford’s 7 tos if you will be glad to correct your misquotes of his stats.
So I ask again: How would you react to a blogger saying that Josh only rebounded at 6.4 rpg for his career?

Don’t say Dwight is the only center Al can’t guard. Please. Thats the only one people repeat because of the ingloriouosly historic playoff whipping we suffered.
Horford vs Gasol, Horford vs Bynum, Horford vs Lopez,
To top it off he doesn’t have the length to protect the paint. If he tries he just fouls a guy or gets dunked on and neither is what you want from Al. You can win with starting Zaza and playing off the talents of Josh, Teague, a SG and Al.
But you need someone to do the grunt work, rebound wrestle smalls score inside and absorb fouls. And that is your ideal center. And that is not Horford.

That’s cute Najeh, but I’ve posted highlights of some of the times Rondo caught Teague flat-footed and it was obvious that Teague wasn’t trying very hard on defense. Teague is one of the fastest players in the NBA. There’s exactly one reason why Hinrich (a much slower player) can fight through picks while Teague gets taken out of plays by almost every pick that is set on him. The difference is effort.

I don’t think Jeff is a lazy defender at all, he just doesn’t know when to go over or under a screen. It appears to me that he’s trying to listen to the coaches opposed to just letting the situation dictate what to do. Too often I see him finding the screen and then moving with it opposed to stepping over or under it. When he’s attacking on defensive and not worrying about the scouting report he plays a lot better. Rondo goes by everyone, nothing new there!
