Updated: Hawks schedule released

Vivlamore filling in for MC.

The Hawks 2012-13 regular-season schedule was released Thursday and fans will get an opportunity to see two former key members of their team – Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams – return to Philips Arena in a five-day span.

The schedule also includes games against the Eastern and Western Conference champions, the Heat and Thunder, in a five-day span in the first month of the season.

Here are several other notables about the schedule:

Lin-sane start: The Hawks open the regular-season at home against the Rockets on Friday, Nov. 2. That will be Jeremy Lin’s first game with Houston after leaving the Knicks as a free agent this month. The season ends in New York against the Knicks and the Hawks old head coach Mike Woodson. Five of the eight games in April to end the season are at home.

Welcome back: Williams will return to Atlanta on Friday, Jan. 11 with the Jazz, exactly six months after he was traded. Johnson returns on Wednesday, Jan. 16 as a member of the Nets after he was traded in the off-season. The Hawks next game is also against Johnson, a Jan. 18 matchup in Brooklyn. Johnson will play once more in Atlanta on March 9.

Champions: The Hawks host the defending NBA champion Heat on Nov. 9. They will travel to Oklahoma City to play the Thunder on Nov. 4, the second game of the season.

Longest stretches: The schedule includes a season-high five straight home games from Nov. 24 to Dec. 7. It includes a season-long road trip of six games between Feb. 24 and March 4. The schedule features 30 stretches of three games in four nights. It also includes four stretches of four games in five nights.

Take a break: The NBA All-Star weekend will be Feb. 14-17 in Houston. The Hawks will play 51 games before the break, 26 at home.

National TV: The Hawks have six games on national television. They are on ESPN three times (twice vs. the Knicks and once vs. the Heat) and on NBA TV three times (vs. the Magic, Bulls and Pacers).

Holiday play: The Timberwolves will be this year’s Martin Luther King Day opponent at Philips Arena. They do not play on Thanksgiving or Christmas day but will spend New Year’s Eve in Houston and New Year’s Day in New Orleans.

Here is the complete Hawks’ 2012-13 regular-season schedule:

#2 DRAFT PICKS – not all that

2012 Michael Kidd-Gilcrest ????
2011 Derrick Williams (looking a lot like cousin Marvin)
2010 Evan Turner (I am sure Philly would prefer D. Cousins or Greg Monroe)
2009 Hasheem Thabeet Memphis fans hate him worse than Hawks fans hated Marvin
2008 Michael Beasley Third team in five seasons
2007 Kevin Durant Great pick at two
2006 LaMarcus Aldridge I am sure somebody should have gotten the ax for trading him draft day
2005 Marvin WIlliams enough said
2004 Emeka Okafor Watching him beat Tech at UConn – I thought this should have been pick 1
2003 Darko Milicic Teams still want him almost 10 years later. Why?
2002 Jay Williams Maybe this is why BK didn’t want to draft a PG this high?
2001 Tyson Chandler Has made Kwame Brown look very bad

“Man, I forgot how bad Jon Koncak was… Hawks should sue him for impersonating a pro basketball player”

Jon “Contract” was one of the worst stiffs to ever put on an NBA uniform…

The GM at the time passed on the great Charles Barkley for this stiff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t believe Wilkins was not picked as a top 50 of All Times! Crazy!

Marvin, Sheldon, and Josh Chidress, were all top 10 picks and went higher than Al Jefferson. Wow, the Hawks missed badly and missed often.

Sautee, yea, the Center exaggeration was a few days ago, which you tried to distort. There are other time you bring up exaggerations from months, and years ago and try to pass them off and twisted thought. You should be a politician.

The 2006-07 season the Hawks were 30-52. They drafted Al with the third pick. The next season with Al, the team finished 37-45 and went to the playoffs. Al has always played in the post season as a professional. Bibby did join the team that year and the Hawks were 15-18 with Bibby. Bibby was a major upgrade over Tyrone Lue – but Al was a major contributor his rookie season.

“AG, you’re wrong, the Hawks became a playoff team after MIKE BIBBY arrived. They didn’t take the 8 seed until Bibby was acquired all star weekend. And the year before, the Hawks were only 3 games out of the 8th seed when Joe Johnson went down with a season ending injury. So please don’t act as if Al was the savior for the team. If that was the case, they wouldn’t have been able to secure the exact same seed without Al playing majority of the season.”

Man Ra’mon that AllStar Al kool-aid is some mighty strong drink! LMFAO!!!!! Hehehe

I dont’ know what’s going on with Al, unless he’s playing cautious. He just hasn’t looked very good this summer.
But if say Danny were to move Teague and Al, you would think they would be getting something big in return. We talk about Al being a top C in the East, when I don’t see him as a C at all. He is a PF playing near the basket by default. When Zaza is in there, we don’t have 2 C on the court.
Al is a C strictly by LD’s convention.

And Al’s contract is workable and can be moved. If you can move ISO, you can move anyone.

And to keep stirring the pot, did Damien Wilkins get re-signed in DET?

Pimp My Stats,

Your link prove my point. Jefferson been in the league 8 years and been to the playoffs twice, his rookie season and his 8th season. He advance to the 2nd round of the playoffs once in his rookie year when he avg less than 20mins and 6pts. Last season he advantage 18pts and his team got swept. Like I said, he put up good stats on bad teams. His team most successful year came his rookie year and when he played a limited role/mins.

My point was really that fans want to trade established players for ‘picks’. This draft – I doubt the top 5 guys become All-Stars. Anthony Davis has a long way to go.

LMAO at Nene, Okafor and Ariza being the best frontcourt in the EAST. Nene is not making an all star team…I just don’t know where all this talk comes from. Especially when you got Dwight, KG, Tyson Chandler, Al Horford, Brook Lopez and Hibbert (overrated) all vying for a spot.

Okafor is trash and Ariza is barely a starter…he puts up Marvin Williams numbers (10 pts 5 rebs)

DELUSION at it’s best.

Josh Smith and Al Horford smokes them easily with any old random at SF.

The Wizards making the playoffs????? That’s a big stretch….John Wall will have to have an AMAZING MVP type season for that to happen.

Al Horford is a poor man’s Horace Grant. Al is closer to”Harvey Grant” in all actuality.
Josh Smith is the Hawks best player. He is probably the only keeper of the “Old Core Group” remaining on this team. Plain and simple, Al Horford could not get by a 39 year old KG. KG abused Al Horford everytime he played him. Amare abused Al. Does this make sense to you Highsider or Suckafree? Bay Bay down at the Ymca would abuse Al “Scrub” Horford.

Def wrong….on hoopshype…as much as I like the rumors section, not much else is kept up to date there Najeh.

Looking at Houston’s team now that they have signed Lin and Asik, they have Josh Harrelson there until 8/15 if they choose to release him. I wouldn’t mind seeing him here in ATL at 762K. He gives us a better option than Benson, who is Solomon Jones all over again. Harrelson has proven he can play and a decent rebounder. A cheaper version of Zaza IMO and we need depth.

I’m sure Danny’s not done, and it appears on the surface he isn’t interested in rebuilding.

And if you asked me who has the better record entering the playoffs between us and Brooklyn, you would probably take Brooklyn because they are solid in all 5 starting positions.

Orlando is playing this all wrong. If they were thinking about rebuilding, they should trade D12 ASAP so they can have the worse record as possible for them. A top 3 draft pick in this season’s draft, will go a long way to rebuilding the franchise. Otherwise, with D12, they’re a playoff team still that will have a hard time getting a franchise changing draft pick.

By all indications, the 20113 draft is reported to be as weak as the 2012 was deep. A top 3 pick next year might not be the building block it normally is … shades of 2006.

I think they messed up by not trading D12 to Brooklyn. Lopez and Brooks with picks was one of the better deals they could get
