Updated: Hawks schedule released

Vivlamore filling in for MC.

The Hawks 2012-13 regular-season schedule was released Thursday and fans will get an opportunity to see two former key members of their team – Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams – return to Philips Arena in a five-day span.

The schedule also includes games against the Eastern and Western Conference champions, the Heat and Thunder, in a five-day span in the first month of the season.

Here are several other notables about the schedule:

Lin-sane start: The Hawks open the regular-season at home against the Rockets on Friday, Nov. 2. That will be Jeremy Lin’s first game with Houston after leaving the Knicks as a free agent this month. The season ends in New York against the Knicks and the Hawks old head coach Mike Woodson. Five of the eight games in April to end the season are at home.

Welcome back: Williams will return to Atlanta on Friday, Jan. 11 with the Jazz, exactly six months after he was traded. Johnson returns on Wednesday, Jan. 16 as a member of the Nets after he was traded in the off-season. The Hawks next game is also against Johnson, a Jan. 18 matchup in Brooklyn. Johnson will play once more in Atlanta on March 9.

Champions: The Hawks host the defending NBA champion Heat on Nov. 9. They will travel to Oklahoma City to play the Thunder on Nov. 4, the second game of the season.

Longest stretches: The schedule includes a season-high five straight home games from Nov. 24 to Dec. 7. It includes a season-long road trip of six games between Feb. 24 and March 4. The schedule features 30 stretches of three games in four nights. It also includes four stretches of four games in five nights.

Take a break: The NBA All-Star weekend will be Feb. 14-17 in Houston. The Hawks will play 51 games before the break, 26 at home.

National TV: The Hawks have six games on national television. They are on ESPN three times (twice vs. the Knicks and once vs. the Heat) and on NBA TV three times (vs. the Magic, Bulls and Pacers).

Holiday play: The Timberwolves will be this year’s Martin Luther King Day opponent at Philips Arena. They do not play on Thanksgiving or Christmas day but will spend New Year’s Eve in Houston and New Year’s Day in New Orleans.

Here is the complete Hawks’ 2012-13 regular-season schedule:

Al and Teague could net Al Jefferson from Utah. Jefferson is a major upgrade over Tito Horford Jr.
He will at least play both ends of the court.

Teague couldnt move old man Bibby, hes been here 3 or 4 years and still is a joke. Helll, if Hinrich hadnt broke his leg Teague would still be on the bench. Even when He start the whole year he was less than average. He just another long term project who would be better off on a team that is 1 and done or not going anywhere. Teague is not going to get the hawks to the playoffs or beyond. We will go furhter with Harris than Teague.

Teague is a joke.

Al Jefferson will be an allstar for the next 4 years provided he leaves the Jazz by the trade deadline.
He is in the final year of his contract. (I wish Al Horford was in his final year here)

Al Horford is “Average” He is no Chris Bosh or Kevin Garnett, not even Ryan Anderson. Al does nothing well!

DUI doesn’t give a fu_k about typos. That would be a full time thankless job. However, when an intended insult is misspelled, typo or not, it’s ironic. DUI would lose his irony license if he passed up one of those. Why is DUI speaking in third person? DUI doesn’t know.

steven a smith,

Jefferson is a one dimensional (offensive) player that doesn’t bring that one dimension every night. It’s a reason that you don’t seem his name mention in alot of trade rumors. He’s a guy that put up good stats on bad teams. He may have value this year b/c he has a huge expiring contract. No way you trade an All Star caliber player for him….

ESPN’s view of teams that have gone up and teams that have gone down. Obviously, we’re on the “step back” list:

5. Atlanta Hawks
I love Danny Ferry’s endgame. After taking over as the Hawks’ GM earlier this summer, he realized his new club’s ceiling was the second round of the playoffs. So Ferry immediately began dumping long-term contracts for expiring deals. The moves will position Atlanta to be a major player on next summer’s free-agent market — and perhaps beyond. Great plan.

But this season the Hawks will fall off a bit. Ferry’s purge cost them their best player, Joe Johnson, and Marvin Williams. The Hawks are still probably a playoff team, mind you, what with Josh Smith, Al Horford and the newly acquired Devin Harris. But they’re a bottom-rung playoff team at best. And that’s a plunge from the No. 4-5 seed territory they’re used to inhabiting.

steven a smith , Teague may have confidence issues too. This aint grade school. And other than Tito, nobody’s daddy is out here protecting their sons. This is a man’s sport and aint no sissy going to get us to the next round.

Now, stop being politically correct with the lack confidence bull, Teague is a sissy. so is Al. But more than that teague is unintelligent as a point guard. The only thing Teague has going for him is he is young and fast. Dudes been here long enough. No more “Jerry’s” Kids.

This is a mans sport. Like Barkley said and every one in the NBA knows Hawks are too soft. Get ride of the softness that Deer in the Headlight Teague and I wannna play power forward Al bring to the table.

Al is very average and so will the hawks be if they keep players like him and teague around.

Bank on it.

We don’t need ESPN view. It was clear that Ferry wanted to get financial flexibility which require him to move some quality players (Joe/Marvin) for guys that are less talented on expiring/shorter contracts. By the way, Hawks became a playoff team when Horford arrived! Outside of last year, this guy improved every season. That is why he was a All-Star.

Good Evening T-s, I’m glad you are here. I want to discuss something you posted in the last blog.

Someone said Horford was a good deal at $12M / yr., and you said that for $12M he should produce 24 ppg, 15 rpg, and 5 blocks per game.

So here is my question: If 24, 15 and 5 is what you expect from a starting center being paid $12M, then why couldn’t Dwight do it at +$17M?

AG, you’re wrong, the Hawks became a playoff team after MIKE BIBBY arrived. They didn’t take the 8 seed until Bibby was acquired all star weekend. And the year before, the Hawks were only 3 games out of the 8th seed when Joe Johnson went down with a season ending injury. So please don’t act as if Al was the savior for the team. If that was the case, they wouldn’t have been able to secure the exact same seed without Al playing majority of the season.
