Updated: Hawks acquire Korver

Vivlamore filling in for M.C.

Kyle Korver is the latest shooter being stockpiled on an ever-changing Hawks’ roster.

A trade for Korver, a guard known for his 3-point shooting, was completed Monday. The Hawks  acquired the veteran from the Bulls for cash considerations.

“I appreciate the toughness and the competitive energy Kyle brings to the game every night, and we’re very excited to add

him to our team.” Danny Ferry, Hawks President of Basketball Operations/GM, said in a statement released by the team.  “Adding him makes shooting an even greater strength for our club.”

The deal was several days in the making. Korver was in Atlanta for a physical on Saturday.

Korver was owed a $500,000 guarantee of his $5 million non-guaranteed salary for 2012-13 by the Bulls by Sunday.

“We led the NBA in wins two years in a row, and (I) loved the personalities and chemistry we had,” Korver told the Chicago Tribune Friday when news of the potential trade first surfaced. “The bond we had was unique. You always feel you could’ve done more, but everybody on our team gave it all we had and there’s at least some satisfaction in that.”

In 65 games for the Bulls last season, Korver averaged 8.1 points in 22.6 minutes per game. He was 10th in the NBA in 3-point percentage at .435 (118-for-271).

The Hawks have added shooters Lou Williams, Devin Harris, Anthony Morrow and first-round pick John Jenkins during the offseason.

Korver, 31, was a second-round pick (No. 51) by the Nets in the 2003 draft. He was traded to the 76ers, where he spent his first four-plus seasons. He also played for Jazz before playing the past two seasons with the Bulls.

Speculation by Sacramento Kings writer Jason Jones that the Kings might pursue Jeff Teague was followed quickly by the news of the Kings signing Aaron Brooks to a two-year contract.

“he is the same player as ivan without the strength and we didnt need any more PFs.”

Ivan Johnson plays above the rim. Mike Scott plays below the rim. Ivan Johnson can guard All-Star NBA centers. There is no comparison between Ivan Johnson and Mike Scott. Ivan Johnson is a rotation NBA player. I doubt Mike Scott ever makes an NBA roster.

Heres the plan. We got Al and Josh and a boat load of shooters. That’s what we go with. Get the shooters work and make Josh get down and learn to fight inside. When we lead the league in losses we go to the lottery. Next off season we sign Dwight and Chris Paul keeping Josh and Al and keep the best of the shooters and tell Miami to come pick some cotton.

Comments from Josh Smith, lol, no one is recruiting his butt. This is the same guy that said the NBA all star game you have to kiss butt to get picked, what an idiot. Please ATL build around Josh, I will watch every game just for the entertainment value. If he knew anything about winning, he wouldnt be killing momentum and double clutching three point shots.

The Kings have 14 players under contract and one of those players (Hassan Whiteside) does not have a guaranteed contract. So there is still the possibility for more moves. Jeff Teague is held in high regard, but do the Kings have the assets to convince Atlanta to part with Teague, even though they acquired Devin Harris? Not sure the Kings could dump one or two of their wing players in exchange for Teague.

Turning into the Nuggets of the early 80’s – even if we lose, it shouldn’t be boring – which isn’t the worst thing to have in a transition season.

FAPB,

Ray,

J.Chills was getting started mins and with nimbers like that if that’s all you’re doing especially if you’re a SF in my town we call you sorry for getting that many minutes and only putting out 10 pts isn’t this the exact reason we put out Marvin just now LOL!.

Marvin’s career high is 46% from the field. Chills was shooting 52% average for his 4 years here. And with Chills, it was more than just numbers.

He would bring the ball up at times (and would not stumble, bumble, and fumble likeMarvin), he would guard multiple positions, and he crashed the boards. I remember Steve Smith dubbed him the base-line bandit, because he had multiple key rebounds and put backs for us.

If Chills was paid $7.5mil like Marvin, then yeah, I would have passed. But if he was going to get closer to the Mid-level, then I would have loved to keep him. He made impact plays without plays being run for him, and without getting the benefit of wide open looks that Marvin gets.

But Rick never made an offer.

Saw one report that said we signed Lou Williams for 3 yrs $15.7M. That’s the first I’ve heard of those terms. Not sure whether I should be happy or sad there’s no fourth year.

Current cap situation is $64.6M committed to 12 players (Teague, Harris, Williams, Jenkins, Morrow, Korver, Stevenson, Smith, Horford, Williams, Pachulia, and Petro). Ivan has just under a $1M qualifying offer on the table from the Hawks. Hawks have the bi-annual of $1.9M to offer a free agent.

I would like to see the Hawks sign another SF, Randolph, Barnes, Pietrus or Childress would work for me. I would take a gamble on Blatche for he vet min if he’s amnesty. If not, then Ryan Hollins or Jermaine O’neal would be the last big I would sign.

JChill would be an an excellent addition for the vet min or 2mil 1 year deal. He should clear waivers and the Hawks would be wise grab him. Both could benefit tremenously, the Hawks get a 3 position(defender/rebounder) and JChill gets to restart his career.

So we traded or lost:

Joe Johnson
Marvin Williams
Kirk Hinrich
Willie Green
Pargo
TMac
Collins
Damp

We got Petro and Williams that probably cancel out Collins and Damp – close anyway.

Lou Williams had a much higher PER than JJ – but let’s face it, JJ is better than Lou. JJ is aging however.

Harris is way better than Pargo no matter how you slice it.

Marvin is probably a little better than Korver.

Stevenson and TMac may end up being somewhat of a wash, just with each excelling in different areas.

Jenkins and Morrow for Hinrich remains to be seen. I’d take Jenkins and Morrow.

Teague and Josh will be better.

And we’ll have Al for a full season.

While the roster is obviously a work in progress, I’m not sure we’re going to be that much worse of a team.

Looking at 40-45 wins right now?

And I know you could do the above analysis many different ways obviously. But we’ve stockpiled some talent – but need a wing, unless we plan on playing Josh out there, with Korver backing him up, with some help from Stevenson.

Getting Dwight – if we have to take back garbage, the only way the salaries work is if Harris is included – so this thing may not get done until after Sept. 11th when Harris can be traded.

Al, ZaZa, Harris, and Teague – with a couple of 1st picks for Dwight, Duhon, and Turk.

Start:

Dwight
Josh
Turk
Morrow
Lou

With a bench of
Petro
Ivan
Korver/Stevenson
Jenkins
Duhon

Your looking at a EC Semi or ECF team at least there.

The Houston Rockets [franchise] is trying to re-energize its Asian and Asian-American fan base. FYI, Houston [TX] is the 4th largest [most populous] city in the U.S. and has a rather large Asian community that includes two “Chinatown[s].” I used to live in Houston, TX, which is a very diverse and underrated “international” city.

I have to agree with another poster about Miller from Kentucky. He would have been a better fit than Scott. Scott is pretty much jump shot or nothing. He is having trouble finishing against the long athletic players so if his j is not falling then I dont know what more he does for you on offense. I think Kyle O’ Quinn would have been a better pick also.

We need to get a sf in here. Randolph, Pietrus, Barnes, somebody. I dont see the need for Delfino but I guess we want to have a bunch of shooters and not much defense this season.

Kyle Korver quote on ESPN “It is a bummer leaving Chicago” dude does not even want to be here. How do you expect some one to give you their all if they want to be some where else.I am glad he is honest.Folks wanted change now we got it.Heck Joe Johnson was quoted ” I have not been as exited to play for the Nets since I played in Phoenix” This town is not taken seriously by fans or players and it starts at the top with owners. If management wants fans to come out quit being cheap and field a team that can hang with the big boys!!!!!!!!!! GO HAWKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“We got Al and Josh and a boat load of shooters.”

We’ve got Al, Josh, Zaza and hopefully Ivan, which is one of the deepest front courts in the NBA, plus a bunch of shooters and possibly the worst coach in the NBA.

“Al, ZaZa, Harris, and Teague – with a couple of 1st picks for Dwight, Duhon, and Turk.”

Not trading 4 starters for Dwight. Not taking back Orlando’s trash. Don’t have to. Orlando’s bargaining position is terrible. Dwight will end up where he wants to go among the team that have assets (Brook Lopez and his bad foot are not an asset, thus why the Nets were never getting Dwight). If Dwight wants to be in Atlanta, this is where he will be. And Danny Ferry knows that he doesn’t have to gut the roster or spend cap space on Orlando’s scrubs to make it happen. He’s just laying low like a lion in tall grass.

I always thought Randolph was a combo forward that was better suited at PF but could play some spot mins at SF. However, I like his length to compliment the other SFs on the roster (that are on the small side for that position).

We’ve got Al, Josh, Zaza and hopefully Ivan, which is one of the Weakest front courts in the NBA. Out side of Josh there at much left. Zaza has fight but hes not an impact starter and Al is amongst the weakest front court defenders and scorer available. We definitely need a major up grade We arent fooling nobody. Hell we cant even get out of the second round. for years.

We got Josh and thats pretty much it. Zaza is a back up and Al just makes me shake my head.
