Kyle Korver is the latest shooter being stockpiled on an ever-changing Hawks’ roster.
A trade for Korver, a guard known for his 3-point shooting, was completed Monday. The Hawks acquired the veteran from the Bulls for cash considerations.
“I appreciate the toughness and the competitive energy Kyle brings to the game every night, and we’re very excited to add
him to our team.” Danny Ferry, Hawks President of Basketball Operations/GM, said in a statement released by the team. “Adding him makes shooting an even greater strength for our club.”
The deal was several days in the making. Korver was in Atlanta for a physical on Saturday.
Korver was owed a $500,000 guarantee of his $5 million non-guaranteed salary for 2012-13 by the Bulls by Sunday.
“We led the NBA in wins two years in a row, and (I) loved the personalities and chemistry we had,” Korver told the Chicago Tribune Friday when news of the potential trade first surfaced. “The bond we had was unique. You always feel you could’ve done more, but everybody on our team gave it all we had and there’s at least some satisfaction in that.”
In 65 games for the Bulls last season, Korver averaged 8.1 points in 22.6 minutes per game. He was 10th in the NBA in 3-point percentage at .435 (118-for-271).
The Hawks have added shooters Lou Williams, Devin Harris, Anthony Morrow and first-round pick John Jenkins during the offseason.
Korver, 31, was a second-round pick (No. 51) by the Nets in the 2003 draft. He was traded to the 76ers, where he spent his first four-plus seasons. He also played for Jazz before playing the past two seasons with the Bulls.

Deng, Noah, Boozer are all pretty good – but Noah is still injured. Jimmy Butler may turn out ok – but again I just don’t see the Bulls being real great this season.

Okafor really looked bad last year – Nene is getting older. The Wiz may be in a position by the time Beal and Wall are good enough to contend, the Frontcourt gets too old. But if they have two or three years left (Okafor and Nene), the Wiz can cause some problems in the near future.

I still say:
Josh has a crazy year, and averages around 19 and 10, and plays better in other areas than he ever has all around.
Al breaks out and averages 16 and 10, while improving other areas of his game.
Teague takes another step up.
Lou and Harris both play very well for us, as does Jenkins and Morrow.
ZaZa and Korver turn out to be solid (again).
I’m seeing an exciting 46-36 for the club – and we like them because they are exciting with no iso-ball, and no stumbling Forward.
But a few more trades, or another signing can change that all up.
Need a SF it looks like to me.
And Darko would be ok – but I think the Heat and some other teams want him

D12’s new stance favors Ferry and the Hawks. I’m sure Ferry’s offer was regardless if Dwight signs an extension or not. So his offer will still be the best on the table. I’m starting to wonder what the Hawks would have to give up to get Bynum though.

We’re way too thin up front. As constructed, we’re no better than a 7 or 8 seed:
Horford (undersized, athletic center)
Smith (undersized, athletic PF)
Pachulia (currently injured, but plays below the rim when healthy)
Johnson (not under contract)
Petro (career end of the bench guy)
Williams (20 yr old that appears to love donuts more than basketball)

HOU has a glut of people the roster, mostly SFs and PFs so we may be able to see what shakes loose. They can’t pay ‘em all or keep ‘em all.
It would be nice if we could snag one of their good young SF prospects somehow, either min. contract or a guy cut just due to the numbers game.

People keep talking about how we’re no better than 7-8 seed well guess what kids every other year people kept saying that he we ended up with a 3-5 seed.
Oh it’s a little worse too we lost Horford and Zaza one for most of the season the other for the playoffs we ended up with a #4 seed bid even over teams like Knicks who had more star power then we ever could.
Your seeding does not matter! Boston once again proves that.

LOL… you’re a joke a minute. A two time All-Star, 3rd team All-NBA center is the weak link, not the guy the Wizard’s just paid $20m to go away? Not the rookie who hasn’t proven that he can get his shot off in an NBA game? The Horford haters on this blog must have like a 3rd grade education.

I really don’t care if we’re a Playoff team or not because we’ve clearly punted this season, in hopes of getting Dwight and maybe CP3 next summer. But in terms of the team for this season, Ferry still has a lot of work to do. He’s got 6 PG/SG, 1 SFs (Korver, can’t guard anyone) and only 1 SG can actually play really good defensive (Stevenson, which probably isn’t even true at this point). We need to trade at least two of these guys to get a quality SF. I would like Delfino, but I just don’t know if we can trade any of the players we got for JJ right now. We might be stuck with this very unbalanced group and just suck, which is actually part of the plan.

When I first saw Jenkins, I thought JJ Redick, which isn’t a bad player to have. But after watching a few of the Summer games he looks to have an in-between game, which Redick doesn’t possess. If Jenkins can shoot the floater with any consistency, he should do just fine in the League.

Childress would be PERFECT in the starting line-up. In case yall forgot, he would score the ball with zero (0) plays runs for him. With the shooters we have to space the floor, Childress could slash down the lane for an easy dunk/layup or he could be found hiding under the basket for a back door pass, assist JSmoove. The TRUE Hawks fans remember those kinda plays. We NEED a SF and Childress would be my top choice right now, Peituis my 2nd, Delifno my 3rd.

Nice stuff this morning. Yeah man, if John Jenkins has that mid-range game & can finish around the rim, that means he’s got some wheels and may be able to get his own shot some. I still hoped Andrew Nicholson wold have been sitting there at #23 but, The Magic snagged him at #22 … oh well.
I don’t even think D12 knows what he wants to do anymore? I guess from a pure EGO standpoint, he just wants to choose his next destination and, obviously doesn’t care to play in LA with a bonafide ball hog. Didn’t Kobe up 55 shots in a loss last season? And, that’s with Bynum and Gasol standing in the paint! What a hog.
The Hawks may be a consideration for an UFA like Howard, but …. perhaps he doesn’t want to come here if we have to gut the roster and, he has to start a rebuild all over again. Maybe he does come if we can keep some core pieces like Horford and Teague.

If we want a project 7 ft. dude, HOU just waived the 7′ guy they got in the Marcus Camby trade w/the Knicks (Jerome Jordan). Apparently, he may be the epitome of project players, because he hails from Jamaica (the country not the city in New York) and only picked up a ball upon coming to the U.S. at age 17. Balled at Tulsa, got drafted in 2nd round, then traded to the Knicks who then advised him to ball in Europe for a year (which he did). After that, D-League stint after the lockout then a call up for spot duty.

Dwight Howard said he will not sign an extension if traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, or to anyone for that matter.
According to Dan Fegan, Howard’s agent, via Ric Bucher of ESPN The Magazine, Howard plans to test free agency in the upcoming offseason no matter where he lands in any trade scenario.
The Brooklyn Nets, according to a source in Bucher’s report, never preconditioned any trade attempts with the stipulation that Howard agree to an extension before a trade was made. The Lakers, on the other hand, have made it clear they intend to lock in Howard long-term before executing the trade.
These recent reports from Howard’s agent dispel reports from Wednesday to the contrary. According to ESPN reporter Chris Broussard’s sources, Howard was set to sign a long-term deal if shipped to the Lakers.
With all of the rumors, speculation and drama surrounding the future of Dwight Howard, it is hard to believe anything swirling around at the moment.
This is just another roadblock to the never-ending drama surrounding the Orlando Magic’s star center. One thing is certain, though: Howard will not be back in a Magic uniform in 2013.
Howard’s signing an extension isn’t, however, the only roadblock to getting a deal done.
Recent reports have surfaced from Andrew Bynum’s agent, David Lee, via Mary Schmitt Boyer of The (Ohio) Plain Dealer, indicating that the Cleveland Cavaliers and Bynum’s representation have not interacted at all about Bynum’s intent to sign an extension with the Cavaliers if traded to the team.
His agent also said the rumors about Bynum’s desiring Cleveland as one of his top three teams were false and that he didn’t know where the list came from.
Lee went on to further say that any team assuming Bynum’s interest in its organization would be better served having a conversation with his client than speculating about his intentions.
These recent developments may have put a hamper on the hopes of the Lakers in landing Dwight Howard. The Lakers want Howard long-term, need a third party to make the deal appealing to the Magic and must move quickly if they have any hope of making this trade a reality.
If the Cavaliers aren’t involved and the rumors about their interested in this deal turn out to be pure speculation, the Lakers may miss out on their biggest target.
If they fail to get a deal done, will Andrew Bynum hold a grudge after being the center of trade talks this offseason?
How likely is it that he will re-sign in Los Angeles as a result?

“Hawks need a 7 footer with muscle and a bad attitude”
Not really a problem with this assessment, but if Danny could find one (and that’s a big if) he must (at least) be able to rebound and make FTs or he’s a liability.
Though 6′-8″ Reggie Evans of the Nets is a PF and not a C, he’s an example of a situational player who is a defensive demon but also a terrible FT shooter. If he’s in the tight game late in the 4th quarter, opposing teams often go into hack mode against him with great success forcing him out of the game.
So even though his paid well, he can only play during certain moments and during crunch time in tight games isn’t one of them. This is usually a problem for any player with FT limitations; they will eventually be exposed especially by the elite teams.

“Al Horford is the “ONLY” weak link in this line-up!” – Steven A.
Weve all known that for some time but the loud and few Horford shout louder and louder. If the hawks are going to get better Al his got to go. He has peaked. Doesnt like playing center and is not the talent at power forward that Josh is.
Bottom line is Al is the weak link and should have been shipped with Marvin and JJ. You will never win a championship with Al in your front court.
Now Calling Al out usually brings out an attack on J Smoove from the Al supporters who some how feel that Attacking the good play of J Smoove with make Al’s lack of play more tolerable.

How is Al the weak link?
career 12pts 8rbs
college 12pt 5rbs
allstar 5pts 3 rbs
playoffs 11pts 7 rbs
Those are very weak numbers but are representative of Al and what he brings offensively
Defensively he’s a joke. He is just unwilling to man the rim protection and is often in the press talking about playing power forward. He doesnt have the heart of a center or a mind to win championships by accepting his team role of playing center. Al attitude about defense sucks, is negative and hurts team play. Thats why the Hawks played better last year when Al was out. Team unity was better.
In order to compete we will have to get more out of Al’s position, with out stopping the flow of the offense to set Al up. There is only1 or 2 offensive things you can do with Al. He has limited offensive tools. Which is why his life long numbers speak for themselves.
Its time to dump all the projects and the ” if is could i would i should i would if i could” project players like Al.

Look I agree guys Al is the weak link, but keep mentioning his name with Josh’s name so we can upgrade Al’s name.
Every time the fan base calls Al out mention Josh’s name to trying and keep them on the same level. Try to make them them same although Smoove is far better than Al.
Hey is it true that after 55 playoff games Al is only bringing 11 pts to the table? is it also true that they doubled down on josh and jj in the playoffs leaving Al unattended and he still could not have an impact?
Any why guys every time the fans complain abut Al just mention Josh. It will keep Al from having to answer for his lack of work or it will lift Al up or it will bring Josh down to Al’s level. Either way its in Al’s best interest to have his name associate with Josh’s good name. So avoid having to have al stand on his own 12pts 8 rebs merits by mentioning Josh every time some one says Al Sucks.
