Updated: Hawks in talks about Korver

Vivlamore filling in for MC.

The Hawks are in “serious discussions” with the Bulls to acquire guard Kyle Korver, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. While talks continue, no deal has been completed.

The Chicago Tribune reported that a deal is done, via the Timberwolves, pending Korver passing a physical. However, the person familar with the situation said the talks have not progressed to that point.

The Bulls had to either guarantee Korver’s $5 million option for the 2012-13 season or waive him and pay $500,000 by Sunday.

In 65 games for the Bulls last season, Korver averaged 8.1 points in 22.6 minutes per game. Kover, 31, was a second-round pick (No. 51) by the Nets in the 2003 draft. He was traded to the 76ers, where he spent his first four-plus seasons. He also played for Jazz before playing the past two seasons with the Bulls.

Watched the game. JJ looks good. I was really impressed with Henson and hopes he battles not only a spot – but a role on this team. He has a nice soft jumper. Scott also has a nice jumper, but did not look like a banger. Pape Sy played little and gave you absoulutly nothing. I would think he would have played well since he has been there before. Don’t even think he took a shot. When is the next game?

This is coming from a guy who uses the handle/screen name of a journalist/TV personality who’s overwhelmingly “obnoxious, ‘odious’ and objectionable” while being the biggest “flip-flopper” of all “flip-floppers.”

Get some originality about yourself.

Learn how to spell or at least get “spell checker.” Why would you use three words [obnoxious, 'odious' and objectionable] to describe someone or something that essentially have the same meaning and are basically synonyms of one another? Let me refer you to the “Department of Redundancy Department.” Get it? You probably don’t [smh]. I used those words [obnoxious, odious and objectionable] to mock and describe you and your handle/screen name. Dude, you’re a corny, pseudo-intellectual. Sit down, clown.

“This is not going to come as welcome news to Daryl Morey and the Houston Rockets, but there is a report out there today from an Orlando TV station that Dwight Howard is very close to being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.”

“David Pingalore of WKMG-TV in Orlando uses some pretty strong language in his report.”

“This past week has been nothing but multiple smoke screens concerning the Dwight Howard drama. According to Pingalore’s sources, this week is all about getting Dwight Howard to Los Angeles and on the Lakers roster. Sources close to the situation believe the “The Lakers will be the end game for the Magic center”.

More from Pingalore’s report: “Many of the stories about Howard have come from Howard’s camp and not from front office people. It is widely believed with front office people that the end game for Howard is the Lakers. That point was stressed over and over to Pingalore. The sources went as far to say “follow the money,” adding “The Lakers are a big market team that needs a player as global as Dwight Howard. Pingalore’s sources believe that this deal is in place and is set for announcement in the short term. Pingalore reported Thursday night the Houston Rockets were in play but the situation remains fluid and is changing at the moment and it’s about keeping people off base. The sources say Friday night this still is all but done. ”Some crossing of T’s and dotting of I’s is only left”.

Not going to be welcome news on this blog either. :-(

“2011-2012 NBA Regular Season

Steals per game [spg]:

Brandon Jennings – 1.58spg [12th in NBA]
Monta Ellis – 1.47spg [14th in NBA]

How’s that for ball-hawking, perimeter defense?”
______________

I see you conveniently left out my main ingredient: SIZE? Steal per game is an arbitrary stat in my opinion, unless it leads to points. But, I like your argument being, somewhat supported. Compared to the whole package Joe Johnson brings, these little guards are flea-flickers. Joe could not be guarded effectively when, he imposed his will both outside and inside the paint. He will be missed and, almost impossible to replace with one player, here in Atlanta.

The playoffs will be very difficult for us without a comparable Robin or bona-fide Super-Star.

News indeed, Rotoworld doesn’t like your source…

“The source of the story is “Local 6 Sports Director” David Pingalore, who has a long and sordid history of supposed ’scoops’ which proved untrue. The story lacks credible details about a deal and fails to address the many hurdles between such a trade, including the Lakers’ lack of draft picks, Orlando’s concern about Andrew Bynum’s knees, and the fact that Bynum probably wouldn’t extend with the Magic. Don’t give this rumor too much thought.”

I guess we shall see.

Hoops,
Why would the Hawks want to give up Horford and Zaza, all those picks, take back a bad contract AND not get Dwight?! Makes no sense. Horford and Zaza are solid players on good contracts. I realize they don’t have the talent of Dwight, but I don’t think the talent disparity between them and Bynum is great enough to justify adding picks and absorbing a bad contract. I’m not even sure I would give up all of that for Dwight without any assurance of a long term deal. IMO, the team is better off heading into 2013 free agency with a clean slate. Both Dwight and Bynum have some serious character flaws. These flaws may be excusable for D12, but I would still be hesitant to give up two quality centers, multiple picks, and pick up the bad contract. And it just seems like a no brainier to turn down that deal for Bynum. Has he ever played a full yr without getting hurt ( or without a player of Koby Brant’s caliber)? Clearly not.

Now, the deal would a wet dream for the Lakers, who would get D12 without any bad contracts. But I don’t see why the Hawks would want to help the Lakers become a championship team for chance to let Bynum be their prima dons for a year and then walk as soon as he could become a free agent. I think Al and Zaza are really good players. There is no reason to give them away at all. They should do everything they can to keep them, and add great players to the mix. It would be worth it to sacrifice them if they could get a superstar in return. But is Bynum really even close to being a superstar? I’d really love to hear more opinions from the hawks bloggers. Frankly I am a bit baffled by the suggestion. Heck – I think it would be amazing if the long term plan were to team Al and Josh with CP3. They make up a versatile front line and have been the cornerstone of a consistent playoff team for the last few years.

Very keen on seeing what moves Ferry has in store for the Hawks. (Just hoping it isn’t to bet the house on Bynum…)

Much of the attention has focused on the Houston Rockets’ ability to send Orlando a bevy of attractive assets and the possibility of the Los Angeles Lakers capitalizing on a three-team deal.

Don’t count the Hawks out just yet, though.

Hi-res-142039476_crop_650×440 Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Michael Cunningham, the Hawks have quietly talked to the Magic amidst all the more highly publicized negotiations:

The Hawks have engaged the Magic in trade talks involving Howard, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions. That person did not want to be identified because the teams involved have not discussed the negotiations publicly.

Atlanta could offer some combination of center Al Horford, point guard Jeff Teague and the usual combination of cap relief and draft picks.

Theoretically, Josh Smith would be available too, but his friendship with Howard makes him one of the more attractive reasons for the big man to stick around. Chances are he won’t be going anywhere.

That means at the very least, Atlanta would have arguably the most athletic and defensively potent frontline in the league.

Hi-res-136526699_crop_650×440 Could Jeff Teague be included in a deal for Dwight Howard?
Streeter Lecka/Getty Images

Additionally, the acquisition of Devin Harris means Atlanta could part with either Harris or Teague while retaining at least one solid point guard.

Howard’s supporting cast wouldn’t be amazing, but it may be good enough to make some serious noise in the postseason. Whatever role players remained like Anthony Morrow and Ivan Johnson would be helpful, and the Hawks would find other avenues to add talent.

They could absorb players like Jason Richardson and Glen Davis to spare Orlando the cap burden, or they could use their own cap space to sign some help for Howard.

The first season together might not be immaculate, but the organization would be well-positioned to compete immediately and improve quickly thereafter.

Sure, we haven’t heard much about the Hawks snagging Dwight just yet, but maybe we should have. Dwight will probably end up in Atlanta

NBA Trade Rumors 2012: Dwight Howard to Atlanta Hawks Still Possible?

With the NBA trade rumors of 2012, one would have to be living under a rock not to have heard about the speculation involving Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard. Among his suitors were originally the Brooklyn Nets, LA Lakers, Houston Rockets, and Atlanta Hawks. A new report is indicating that the Hawks are still a strong possibility for D-Howard to end up playing for.

Previous Dwight Howard rumors had the Brooklyn Nets as destination #1 for the big man. However, that has since fallen through leaving three other optimistic teams in the wake, all hoping that Orlando will budge on a trade deal, rather than trying to keep the big guy around. One such team that is still in the hunt are the Atlanta Hawks.

A report from Bleacher Report speculates that Atlanta’s best bet for a trade would involve using their center/power forward Al Horford, as the main piece. Horford was just recently seen battling against Team USA for Team Dominican Republic in the exhibition games for the upcoming summer Olympics. He’s an NBA All-Star and capable of improving any squad he ends up with. With that said, the BR article speculates a deal involving Al Horford, Jeff Teague and probably some cash, picks or other players is most likely.

The article also speculates that maybe bringing Howard to Atlanta would help attract other free agent stars to the team. One named in particular is Chris Paul. Right now, Paul is starring on the same court in Los Angeles with Blake Griffin, and it’s unknown exactly what sorts of moves the Clips will make to keep their top notch PG happy. Would he end up leaving Los Angeles? Certainly, especially if he left New Orleans in search of a championship.

However, this is all speculation right now, and the fate and team of Dwight Howard will be decided by the man himself along with agents and NBA team management. If and when the right deal happens, everyone can breathe a sigh of relief as the Dwight Howard soap opera has ended.

Dwight update: Not close to a trade with Rockets
July 13, 2012 · 10:29PM

Friday came and went, and just like all the other days that have passed since June 24, 2004, Dwight Howard was still a member of the Orlando Magic.

Despite the Houston Rockets using the amnesty provision to waive forward Luis Scola, there was no trade of Howard from Orlando to Houston, and sources briefed on the talks between the two sides said the teams weren’t nearly as close to a trade as many have speculated. That can change in an instant, of course, but late Friday, there was no deal.

Talks between the two sides are “not active,” one source said Friday.

“There’s nothing happening,” another source said.

I watched our new JJ today on the replay and he reminded me of a former Hawk who just had the ability to get points in the box score:
Lou Hudson.

JJ is so smooth on offense and doesn’t appear to be be overmatched at this point. He has a smooth stroke like I saw with Terrance Ross, and he looks like he is going to find his way into the rotation. I know its early, but since TMAC is fawning over Wroten, who we didnt’ have as big a need for (although impressive), I still like where we are with this version of JJ.

First Choice!

My first choice in this past draft class was, Andrew Nicholson. He has unbelievable post moves, incredible foot work, a back to the basket “old skool” post up game, a face up game and incredible range from the mid-range, all the way out to the three point line.

He may even have more stuff than Durantula and, has a bigger body than Kevin. I have no idea why this true PF fell to number 23 on the draft board, but a lot of people must have been sleeping on this kid, obviously 21 teams did that. But, unfortunately for The Hawks, Andrew was taken one spot ahead of us by The Magic. The Magic – will NOT be disappointed in this NBA Ready kid.

The next best choice for us, obviously had to be John Jenkins with Joe being traded. If, we can sneak in here and get D12, none of what I said previously will amount to a hill of beans – imho.

Thanks for that Joe “Baby Mamma” Johnson -link, Najeh. A very good read for inquiring minds, like myself.
