Ramon – I agree 100% with the personal assaults on the players. Nobody truly knows what these guys are thinking or what is happening in the locker room. Comments should be limited to on the court performances.

You didn’t answer my question about why Josh shouldn’t stop making bad plays regardless. Curious to know your thoughts on that one.

This team will definitely be challenged defensively with only Josh & Horford of any size if Korver starts. Maybe we will outscore everyone by setting the record for 3’s made in a season.

I love the fact that DF has made more moves in 2 weeks than Sund did in 3 years – exaggeration but it sure seems that way!

Horford a top 10 center I buy – top 3 not really.

Nene and Hibbert are not even on the same level. Chandler is a great defensive player only. Timmy and KG are two of the greatest PFs of all times, but today I would much rather have Horford.

i heard the sign and trade with korver and hinrich but idk much more than is been said to be plausible. i mean if we get korver, i think we are in over-kill mode with the three point shooters, we can only play so many minutes with great shooters that cant play D(morrow, jenkins, korver)
i like korver cuz he IS the best shooter in the NBA(rayA/novak/durant/m.miller are all right there with him) but if we get korver we gota trade morrow for a defensive SF.

id be happy if wegot ronnie brewer instead, he can play the 3 and 2 and play good perimeter D which we desperatley need.

when was the last time the hawks were the most prominently talked about team in the off-season?

Y’all keeping forgetting that the Spurs is a actually a three point shooting team, so we are going to be like that. Plus we might have a another move or two. So stop hitting the panic button. Besides this team is playing for the future not right now plus Korver is also an expire contract.

KevinM,

Iggy averaged 12.5 ppg in 36 mpg last year. I don’t think he is their go to guy. And remember, even if he was, Philly struggled on offense all year.

Rod,

My personal belief is that no matter how bad the team, a star player will stand out..

I agree with you. But who said Al is a star player? IMO, making an all-star team does not make you a star player.

in Atlanta Hawks Basketball history. Early vote for GM of the year. Danny Ferry is to Hawks Basketball is what Steven A is to journalism!

Northcyde,

I think it is a marketing ploy as well. The Hawks wont win as many games as they have the last few seasons, but if they are Golden State East, they will look good while losing, so it would mesh with the ASG’s goal of putting an entertaining product on the court.

And we are still talented enough to beat some of the lesser teams, and surprise the better teams once in a while. I think we can compete for 7-8 in the East.

With Korver the Hawks should set the record for jump shots attempted in a season.

“Hopefully all of these shooters are being accumulated in order to be traded for a better player(s).”

First of all, let me state I’m not a Korver fan “AT ALL.” The fact that he’s white doesn’t mean he’s going to replace Kirk Hinrich as the apple of my eye. However, in response to your statement above, northcyde, let me hazard a guess.

I would say these players are being accumulated to make the Hawks roster more attractive to Dwight Howard.

I can pretty much say with a straight face that Kyle Korver is not going to help convince Dwight Howard come to Atlanta. LOL

Golden State East? No. Golden State has historically had zero interior defense. The Hawks have Josh and Al for starters. Admittedly, Al is not a rim protector. But you’re forgetting that Zaza is an outstanding position defender who learned to stop getting into foul trouble and proved capable of guarding Dwight 1-on-1. On top of that, Ivan held his own against multiple All-Star centers last year. Even without Dwight, this is a formidable front line. Sure, we come up short in the height department. But how many teams have two bangers like Zaza and Ivan coming off the bench?

When’s the last time Josh Smith commanded a double team in the post as a PF? When he was 250 lbs?

“Stupid stupid STUPID signing. And don’t even get me started on Horford posting up centers.”

Whatever. Josh and Al are both excellent passers for their position. Al can work on his post game with no double team coming and he will always hit the open man. Just because he doesn’t draw a double team doesn’t mean someone isn’t coming open at the three point line off back screens.

idiotic. And what happens if Josh Smith isn’t double teamed?

And what happens to the guards? No one on here is big enough to set good screens?

Josh just spent a whole season Picking and fading for guards to open up the lane.

As if Josh Smith can score in the low post. He’s like Dwight Howard with a 2 inch and 40 pound disadvantage every night. Geez loueez

Jhan, every player in the NBA still make bad plays. Josh’s most important lesson now, isn’t just to only play in the post. Because he’s actually become an effective mid range shooter. Josh’s lesson to learn now is WHEN to take that jumper. When Josh has it going and he’s got a rhythm, I don’t mind him taking that jumper early in the shot clock. Its mainly when Josh takes the jumper early in the shot clock and he hasn’t made any jumpers yet, or got any easy buckets. When Josh gets going on the jumper, he is impossible to guard. So you don’t want to take that shot away from him altogether.

“As if Josh Smith can score in the low post.”

You obviously didn’t watch the Chicago series two years ago. Josh was a one man wrecking crew against Chicago’s stable of 7-footers in Game 4.

Yes they run what Doc Rivers calls an inverted fast break. Guards are slower than their bigs.

“Al can work on his post game with no double team coming and he will always hit the open man. Just because he doesn’t draw a double team doesn’t mean someone isn’t coming open at the three point line off back screens.”

Neither Josh or Horford is drawing a double team in the post. And what back screens?

And could you explain “coming open off back screens for 3s” when the double doesn’t come in the low post?

That makes no sense to me. I don’t see where the angle is for that. Could you link me an example?

Because I really have no idea what thats supposed to mean.

people just switch those. And unless you have size screening then Korver is useless because you can just switch.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBjprWWRvbM

Ferry is looking doubtful right now. Korver’s so inept defensively you have to look for him every play down just to justify him being on the floor. Josh Smith and Horford aren’t Dwight and ….
I just can’t believe we’re going to be running plays for Kyle Korver. Just wow Ferry.

Josh Smith could turn into Lebron right now and you’d still lose with

Korver
Smith
Horford

The same game 4 that I’m always posting clips of Josh Smith at the SF, despite being 250 lbs?

“Once again, Josh has an outstanding post up game but he floats outside to try to protect his bad knee.”
The same knee that made him lose weight to the point Troy Murphy is pushing him off the block?

He has a bad knee but we’re going to pound it into him down low all season or him and the Hawks are going to look stupid?

“He’s playing for a contract.”
And top it off with a comment to say he’s selfish. Brilliant.

Korver signing makes no sense. Especially being that you drafted the same guy in the draft in Jenkins. You also picked up the same guy in the NJ trade in Morrow. Really Korver, Morrow, and Jenkins should be guys used coming off the bench. Still don’t have a starting caliber 2 or 3. I’m hping these are just moves being made for bigger trades.

“That makes no sense to me. I don’t see where the angle is for that. Could you link me an example?”

Sure just go to nba playbook and do a search for “Ray Allen.” True, the Hawks have not done this in the past. But if this is the lineup, and not just a bunch of trade bait, then the lineup demands it.

“And top it off with a comment to say he’s selfish. Brilliant.”

This is a silly statment. Contract years happen in the NBA. Some people get the contract and quit trying like Turk. I don’t think Josh is that way, but unless he signs an extension he’s playing for the richest contract of his life. Of course he wants to impress and not get hurt and devalue himself.

“Sure just go to nba playbook and do a search for “Ray Allen.” True, the Hawks have not done this in the past. But if this is the lineup, and not just a bunch of trade bait, then the lineup demands it.”

This is the only thing that came up.
“In LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, who love to get in the lane (either on their own or with using a screen) and force the defense to suck in, and the defense will get sucked in because these guys are fantastic at finishing at the rim. When that happens, James and Wade are good enough passers to find their men in the corner. Last year, these guys were Mario Chalmers, Shane Battier, and Norris Cole. Next year, Ray Allen are going to get these looks and knock them down more often than not.”

http://nbaplaybook.com/how-ray-allen-fits-with-miami/

Korver needs BIG men to set screens for him. Josh and Horford are still going to be undersized post players and not going to command low post double teams.

Youre going to end running your offense thru Korver
