Horford’s had a lot of nice passes tonight, and has crashed the boards well. Those of you that want to just get rid of him are beyond dumb. If D12 signs an extension, then by all means get him. Other’n that, no thanks. I’d rather keep our All-Star Center.

Thats an easy one. We dont want Josh to look so good while Al looks bad so all we have to do is attack Josh to keep him on Al’s level…

This was just on hoopshype….

Dwight Howard isn’t the only big man on the minds of the Los Angeles Lakers’ front office staff these days. One source familiar with the trade negotiations said Thursday that calls between the Houston Rockets and Lakers discussing a three-way trade have cooled, while the Atlanta Hawks appear to be gaining steam in their pursuit of Howard. If we get howard for 1 year and he bolts and we have to rebuild that the same fcking thing we are going to do Al loses out again. Al cant get us out of the second round and weve be going backwards the rest of the league is moving forward. Keeping Al guarantees we will be in the lottery in 2 years. so there is no difference than if Howard leaves or if we keep Al either way we are rebuilding in 2 years

Id rather take my chances with Smoove, D12 and the ATL posse.Fck Al

@RayC:

What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this blog is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Nah, just kidding. What I meant to say is, I respectfully disagree with your poor opinion of Mr. Horford.

rod and on a lighter note. this was printed by the ajc regarding the trades and what the hawks have to make up as they redesign and reinvent themselves parting company with jj and marvin:

“Williams was one of Atlanta’s best rebounders and his combination of size and athleticism allowed him to defend small forwards of any size.”

does this mean sport south has to do a few more up close with the hawks? gosh, i hope so. the only two i ever saw were of those two guys.

Horford is the only Hawk with a championship pedigree. Haven’t had a chance to see the game but since he’s the only NBA baller on team Dominica playing against all NBA ballers the handwriting is on the wall. Some Hawk fans turn on the Hawk players like UGA fans turn on the Dogs.

“Iguodala is the most popular 13 PPG player in the NBA. I don’t get the fascination”

Because he does everything else well. Great passer, great defender, good rebounder, good ball handler. He’s the ideal 3rd option on a team that has two scorers.

Haha. I’m pretty sure they showed At Home with Jeff Francoeur last year, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we got plenty more of Marvin.

If we could get Andre Iguodala for Al Horford, I would take that deal. Al did okay tonight for the Dominican Republic, but he proved he is a complementary player who needs an explosive athlete to feed off of. I also like him better at the center position because he is quicker than many of the other C’s he would face. At power forward, he becomes just another guy. Good player, not elite. Best thing about Al is his toughness and versatility.

By the way, Josh Smith can get his own shot more frequently than Horford, plus he’s faster up and down than the court on both ends than Al. Needs to be coached up and if he doesn’t respond, shipped out. But ONLY if he doesn’t respond to better coaching.

I didn’t see this Team USA – Dominican Republic beat down, but y’all need to chill on drawing conclusions from games played under FIBA rules. Totally different ball game. Also not entirely fair to expect elite production from Al when he is surrounded by players like Francisco Garcia. We all know he is not a go-to offensive option, but that doesn’t mean he sucks.

The funny thing is, Philly fans hate Iguodala as much as some of these Hawks fans hate Horford. Yet the outside perception of both players is much more favorable.

Very ignorant to judge how one guy does against a team of all stars and hall of famers. This isn’t the And 1 tour, kids. I don’t recall much offense from Josh or Joe against the Celtics in that entire playoff series. Just a whole lost of bad jumpers and turnovers.

@slimjr,

I look at what Iggy could do for us which is create a scoring opportunity for himself and play off of members of the backcourt. Al is a good defender – sometimes very good – but we need him to protect the inside and be a force on the board and a secondary force on the offensive end. He consistently does not do this. For that reason I say he’s tradeable, particularly for someone who has a skill that is hard to come by. Iggy has the elite skill of athleticism (jump high, strong, quick feet).

“Al did okay tonight for the Dominican Republic, but he proved he is a complementary player…”

I think everyone in the NBA knew the Hawks are/were a team full on guys who aren’t built to lead a team long before this game. Joe, Josh and Al would all be #3 options on a championship level club. The fact that over the years each of them has had an opportunity to “lead” the team in the playoffs and neither was good enough to get them beyond two wins the 2nd round proves they are backseat guys. The Hawks need at least two elite Top 10 level players to be taken seriously.

Iguodala is every bit the complementary player Al is. Trading Al for Iguodala doesn’t do much for this team, although it is great for Philly because they have a logjam at SF.

Oh I agree, Moultrie, Harkless and Young who also could end up at the 4. But let’s be honest, Hawks fans will turn on Iguodala like Philly fans did when he doesn’t score like a superstar every night We saw it happen to Joe, Josh and Al. Instead of accepting to player for the little things they do on the floor, they are judged against the ELITE players because that seems to me all the fans care about.

“After Hinrich fully recovered from shoulder surgery, Rick Sund should’ve tried to swap Crawford for Hinrich straight up since POR was desperate for a point guard or at least a combo guard with rather extensive point guard experience to replace Felton and since the Hawks needed another proven scorer heading into the playoffs due to the Al Horford injury.”

Perhaps by then Sund had noticed the addition by subtraction of Jamal on defense. Better by 2.6 ppg. Why? No swinging gate.

Hey, Clarification, tell me what do you “get,” when you SUBTRACT a “2012 Hawks first round playoff exit/elimination [without Crawford]” FROM a “2011 Hawks second round playoff exit/elimination [with Crawford]“? I get [(a) DIFFERENCE of a] “Hawks post season performance regression.” Think about it.

“Not with those rebounding numbers, he’s not”

Scola ranked 56 out of all 478 NBA Players during the 11/12 regular season under new coach K McHale. He ranked 32 out of 192 forwards the same season.

Under the previous coach (Adelman) 10/11, he ranked 30th out of all 452 NBA Players and ranked 17 out of 188 forwards that same season.

Respectable rebounding numbers considering the availability of the FT market; His post-up game is superior to Ivan Johnson. He is ranked 20th in scoring among all forwards in 11/12.

If Danny was fortunate to get him at the dollar store off waivers it would be a nice pick-up.

First time ive been on this forum, and I can’t believe the stupidity.

1. You would rather have Javale McGee than Al Horford? Horford is a 15 and 10 guy who plays average defense. McGee is a 10 and 8 guy who doesn’t take advantage of his great athleticism. The only thing McGee is better at is shot blocking. Literally the only thing. And that is because he is constantly getting out of position on D to go for highlight blocks.

2. Why does everyone think we need to get rid of Al to make big moves in free agency? Even if we keep Al we will have plenty of cap room to re-sign Josh, go after a Chris Paul/Dwight Howard type player, and give a guy a $7-9 million dollar deal (a Gerald Wallace or Ilyasova level player) A team with Horford as option 3a or 3b sounds good to me.

3. Why do you guys want Scola? The Hawks need to get tougher down low. Al isn’t gonna muscle anyone around and Smith doesn’t have quite enough size. Pachulia isn’t a starter. A front line of Smith, Horford, and Scola would get CRUSHED by bigger teams. If we are gonna sign a post player, he needs to be defensive minded. Scola is all offense

4. Are we really gonna act like Al is a bad player because of this game against team USA? He was the only NBA talent on his entire team unless you actually count Francisco Garcia. And this is only his 4th basketball game in the past year. Al cannot function as #1 option, and nobody has pretended he can. Not even himself. Not to mention he was going up against Love, Davis, Chandler and Lebron, and Igoudala at times down low. Im sure everyone is still bitter about the missed FTs in game 6 of the 1st round. But Al was the whole reason we even got it to a game 6. And he did it at less than 100%. Give him some credit

“Rob you can call it what you want. It won’t change the way your guy is playing…

Slimjr, what do you mean “your guy”? You are a Hawks fan. Horford has helped your team accomplish some good things since being drafted. Before he was drafted, the Hawks were pretty much garbage and alaughing stock. Horford has said that he wants to be here in Atlanta and hep build a winner, and in spite of being dangled in trade rumors, he hasn’t complained once about it to my knowedge.

I personally do not care about any of the players, but why are you using immature nicknames and distancing yourself from a player who helped your team like that over the past few years and actually wants to be here? You realize Atlanta isn’t exacty a destination market for most top end talent right? You guys need to recognize where you stand and appreciate the ones who aren’t asking to be traded to better sports markets, since that’s the en vouge thing in today’s NBA.

What the Hawks need to do is be patient, don’t sign any free agents for more than 4 maybe 5 million a year and wait til next year to make big moves.

The only notable FAs the Hawks should go for are Humphries or Scola if we can get them for around $5-6 million a year, Jordan Hill for a little less than that, or Alonzo Gee for around $3-4 million (I think he would be a great fit), or Courtney Lee for around $5 million

I would not touch Anthony Randolph for more than $2 million
