The Hawks today released the roster for the three-day minicamp this week and their entry in the Las Vegas Summer League starting Friday.
The roster includes 2012 draft picks John Jenkins (No. 23 overall) and Mike Scott (No. 43) in addition to 2010 second-round pick Pape Sy and 2011 second-round pick Keith Benson.
Sy, Benson, Derrick Caracter and Jerry Smith are the players on the roster with NBA experience. The Hawks are also expected to add Jordan Williams to the roster after he officially joins the team as part of the Joe Johnson trade with the Nets.
The Hawks open summer league play July 12 at the Cox Pavilion vs. Washington. Their other scheduled games are July 15 (vs. San Antonio), July 16 (Boston), July 18 (Dallas) and July 19 (Portland).

Lightly averaged 10ppg in Italy and looked very unathletic on the highlights I saw.
I don’t think he is physically gifted enough to play in the NBA.
And what the hell is Brad turnover machine Wannamaker back on our summer league roster?
He proved to be atrocious in preseason last year.

The Hawks lost their 2 best wing defenders… Papa Sy has a very good chance to make this team… If his 3pt shooting is real at 38%…
Yeah, where is Eric Griffin?…. We have a need for a small forward.

If Ferry is starting a development program, I’d expect to see a couple of these names (beyond Jenkins and Scott) as our 13th and 14th players on the roster.
I’d love to see Kito stick. If / when he fills out, he could be useful.

It would have been nice to see the Hawks add a couple more names here… Cincy’s Yancy Gates and ‘CUSE PG Scoop Jardine. Gates is a physical PF who plays bigger than his body and Scooo is a great facilitator.

Everybody’s hyped about how close this Dwight deal is. Same agent, Dan Fegan, represents Howard and Humphries. He is negotiating a multi year deal for Hump to facilitate the sign and trade. Howard and Lopez both have to be cleared by the receiving team’s doctors. Too many moving parts. It could happen, but I’m still waiting for it to fall apart. When it does, Hawks will be right back among contenders for Dwight’s services.

“If we are out of the Howard sweepstakes, Danny has to trade Josh immediately.”
I agree. The whole point of salary dumping Joe and Marvin is to get a superstar who will take this team farther than Joe took them. Holding serve with Teague/Josh/Al doesn’t get you any closer to doing that. If they can’t bring Dwight here, they need to start going after lottery picks. Trade Josh for someone’s unprotected first rounder and tank for a year.

With that said, for now, they still need to do what it takes to get Dwight here for a year and convince him to stay, even if he doesn’t immediately sign an extension.
Chris Paul Says He Will Play Out Season and Then Review His “Options”
Players’ minds can be changed pretty easily. Deron Williams wasn’t exactly thrilled about being dealt to New Jersey when that trade went down, and Dwight has been even more fickle than him. Bring Dwight here to play with Josh for a year and then throw max contracts at the two of them and CP3 next summer.

Teague is the only keeper right now on this team. After watching Al Scrub it up for the Domminican Republic National Team, I would seriously consider trading him for a wing player or draft picks..
Maybe he would be my amnesty player!!! Al was not the BEST player on his national team GIRLS…

“I would go get OJ Mayo and a quick SF. That way, I will make the court a big, ole treadmill and run people outta there!”
That doesn’t work in the playoffs. The goal shouldn’t be to just be entertaining and get to the playoffs. That’s the mistake this team has been making for the last several years. The goal should be to win a championship.

I’m not sure the C’s haven’t accepted Rondo’s personality and made him the conerstone… think the Rondo market has closed for good. I’m hoping the Westbrook/Durant dynamic turns south and we know how Presti feels about picks.. Westbrook needs his own club.. if Rondo is out of the question, Westbrook is box office talent.

Everyone involved except the Nets is a f-cking moron if this Dwight to the Nets trade goes through.
The Magic are morons because they are getting nowhere close to the best possible deal if the best player they get in return is Brook Lopez’s Angel Soft ass.
The Hawks and every other team that can put together a decent trade offer are f-cking morons because no matter how much Dwight has a hard on for Brooklyn, he can’t sign there as an unrestricted free agent next year because they will be capped out. It doesn’t matter whether that’s the only place he says he will sign an extension. If they don’t trade for him, he can’t play there, period.
If a team like the Hawks steps in and trades Al + Devin Harris + their two 2013 first rounders for Dwight and Jason Richardson (which is a better deal than what the Magic are slated to get from the Nets), the Hawks won’t be competing with the Nets to sign Dwight. They will only be competing with teams that have cap room, and this doesn’t include Brooklyn, the Knicks, the Lakers, the Clippers, or any other big market team. In other words, they can paint Dwight into a corner by trading for him.
Unless Dwight is willing to sign at the mid level to play in Brooklyn, he can talk all he wants about how much he loves to play there and it means jack sh-t. If the Hawks trade for him, in all likelihood he will sign an extension here.

You can’t get Josh Smith for an unprotected first rounder. Only way to do that is if he agrees to sign on to that team and they’ll likely be a very good team.
Trading Duck and Joe was great fortune, getting Dwight shortly afterwards would be a higher power blessing for us and it doesn’t work like that except few organizations much less us.

After reviewing the play, the Clippers may not have the cap room to make a play for Dwight next summer but they can pretty easily create enough cap room. Still, though, this idea that Dwight will find a way to play in Brooklyn even if they don’t trade for him is false. Brooklyn will be paying over $50 million to Deron, Joe, Gerald Wallace, and Teletovic alone next year. They won’t have anywhere near enough cap space to sign Dwight as an unrestricted free agent.

FTPB,
Ra’mon
O’B, I still believe the Hawks should try to sell Josh on the fact of signing an extension this off season (and Zaza). Trading Al to Charlotte for their next year’s draft pick. And going into next off season with the ability to add 3-4 productive free agents, and 2 high draft picks. Even see if Charlotte would be crazy enough to do a Kemba Walker and next seasons pick for Al..
1) If Josh signs an extension, he can only sign for 4 years. If he goes to free agency, he can get 5 years, so there is no way he will sign an extension (imo). Plus the more suitors he has, the more his price goes up.
2) This team was a second round team the last 3 years (not counting this past season), and Josh was not happy. Will he be happy with a team that may be competing for 6-8 in the East this season?
3) Kemba Walker, really? Isnt he just an undersized SG?
4) If Ferry did not want to trade for Dwight unless he signed an extension, then I doubt he will trade Al unless Josh signs an extension first. And as I stated earlier, Josh will not sign an extension. I think he will wait around and see if the Hawks are able to land a big fish (like Rondo, Bynum etc).
If we do (or if we land those 3-4productive FA), then he will sign a free agent contract with us next offseason (imo).

You’re wildly confused, whey would a team get Josh’s bird rights and not us. Ferry has a list of free agents he’ll go after this time next year. We won’t be the only team with money but easily the best foundation along with Cleveland.

” No one is going to pay to see this team as constructed in Atlanta. Get past this Dwight thing and make some moves Mr. Ferry. Dwight nor CP3 is signing with us next year, no matter how much cap room we have. Make some moves. Should have made sure we got Marshawn Brooks.”
Nobody is going to pay to see Marshon Brooks either. People will pay to see superstars. If Dwight and CP3 don’t come here, blow this thing up and tank.
