Hey, just came up with a game us fans & bloggers can play just to kill some time. Its called, “LET’S PLAY COACH”

Those of us who are HUGE Hawks fans and have kelp up with the Hawks should know their personals by now. If you were coach Drew in the last 5 min of the game, (or whenever Josh left), WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE?? Play-by-play if ya can..thx!

FTPB,

MsDee,

Also, I know that most on here is blaming Drew, but ‘our’ bench let us down once again..

It still goes back to LD, because he left the bench in there too long. Boston’s bench isn’t giving them anything either (except for the coule shots Dooling hit). So Doc rode his starters (Pierce played 44 minutes last night. JJ only played 38). That’s a coaching decision.

Why leave Marvin in for 20 minutes when he is struggling?

Ms dee the game was lost before that. Even my Czech lady saw it happening as they had staters on the floor and we had nothing.

MsDee,

Another mistake we made in the 4th, is we kept walking the ball up. Hawks should have been off and running with every rebound. And even if the Celtics made theit shot, and we inbound, we can still push the tempo.

But we didnt. We walked the ball up, and tried to run a half-court offense. I think that goes back to coaching too. LD should have lit into the players for walking it up.

Also, I know that most on here is blaming Drew, but ‘our’ bench let us down once again. Pargo, Willie Green, & Marvin has YET to do anything against Boston all season. Not sure if its Boston defense against them or what but they MUST GET IT TOGETHER! Our starters were tired after that 11pt lead. What killed us, tho were Dooling’s (Jamal-like) 3’s in the corner. Tmac should have come in ONLY from the bench at that time to post up to draw attention to himself to give Joe rest/relief on the offensive end. Teague should start cutting to the basket when Tmac post’s up for a quick pass from Tmac or fake pass to Teague for a skip pass to Joe on the other side for a catch and shoot, NO DRIBBLING! Josh and Ivan to get into position for the rebound. Its not that hard, Drew, not at all!!

You miss the point lady our bench should not have been in the game to be sucking so bad as you point out. Rivers was going with his old firsts of pp and kg riding them for 87 minutes of 96 total while ld is trying to get his big two who are younger a blow. Seriously? Did you see that? Our whole second string out there against their starters only adding marquis to the mix wasn’t it? They were sucking because they were over matched because the coach put them in there to be over matched. Got it?

I wasted my money last night.

The Economy is tuff right now. I’m not going to spend my money as long as LD is coach. Period.

You know what even sadder? The crowd was good, better than Sunday. That’s why people don’t like the Hawks.

I had fans agreeing with me the whole time. Why did LD have all the subs out at once? Why isn’t he riding the starters? Why the heck wasn’t Teague out there when Bradley was at the point? Pargo can’t gaurd him.

Green and Marvin got more minutes than TMAC, yet at least that old man was driving to the basket!

Fire LD and maybe I’ll go to a game. Until then, I rather save up for a team that wins games.

northcyde,

History suggests that Rod is right. The problem with this team (when going up against Boston) is our offense (not defense).

These are the points given up to Boston this year (regular season and playoffs, but not counting the game where Doc rested his starters).

79 (L), 88 (L), 74 (L), 87 (L). We are giving up 82 ppg to Boston, but yet we are 0-4 in those 4 games. Where is the offense?

Hey Doc, if you read towards the end of my post, u would have saw where I said that Tmac should have been the only bench player to play along side the starters, not the whole bench cause they were off. Im not mad that Drew played his bench all at once, im mad that he kelp them out there too long when they were obviously off.

Our bench players look like starters when they are playing the right way and knocking down shots. But they have yet to put on that performance so Drew should have known better to NOT keep them out there longer then need be.

So Marvin takes out ZaZa with one of his rolling stumbles, and then can’t even make up for it by coming thru in the playoffs.

By By core. I hope Marvin is the first to go. Maybe we can get a high 2nd round pick for him and at least draft Festus Ezelli or somebody in this deep draft.

Yea, Im aware that the team walked it up but it DID look like the starters were very tired and so walking it up gave them somewhat a breather. Yea, I know Pierce and KG who are much older than us stayed out there and played thru it but like northcyde said earlier, IT WAS A DESPERATION WIN FOR THEM so their mind sets were going to be a tad bit different then ours. Yea, I know we shoulda coulda, needed to tough it out too but then again human nature takes over and kinda relaxes on us as humans. Case-in-point, what Memphis did by allowing the Clippers to come back and win. They, too shoulda, coulda, needed to finish off the game but with a HUGE lead like that, their human nature instincts couldnt pull them into having a desperation mentally to keep the lead and win..Heck, it happens to the best of us.

I was busy last nite – I check the score, up by 11 late in the 3rd. Look again, up by 5 and I say uh-oh – think I saw Peirce hit a shot or something.

Then look again – down by 2. I couldn’t look again until it was almost over.

Given Collins past recent history, I say if he plays 20+ minutes Friday, he’s about done for a few games.

Since I have no idea of Dampiers playing shape (other than it’s probably bad), I have no idea what to do with this team. Running out of options.

Start:
Ivan
Josh
TMac
JJ
Teague

Bench:

Hinrich and I don’t know. Try Vlad a little for floor spacing? Man, things are looking grim

SteveW

May 2nd, 2012
10:54 am

Ok start, Ivan, Josh, TMac, JJ, and Teague. Have Marvin and Hinrich come off the bench – play a 7 man rotation. When somebody goes down with injury – TMac or whoever, just play next man up, and put them in their spot.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. And there is no ideal solution. All solutions – from a broad bench, medium bench, short bench, Collins starting, Collins not starting – all have holes and risks involved.

I like Collins, and he’s played admirably – but I say sit Collins, go with a 7 man rotation, and play next man up if one of our guys goes down.

But another part of me says at least give Green and Pargo a chance. The gunners would at least score at crunch time you would think.

If Lebron had Paul Pierce’s heart, he’d be a champion. PP is a guy I want to go to war with. Same with Garnett and Rondo really. Those guys got nasty attitude, do what it takes to win.

On other notes – series are going about like I thought. Boozer is looking old, and that’s not good for the Bulls.

Everybody’s fighting and scrapping pretty good in every series really.

Steal Friday nite Hawks!!!

SteveW

May 2nd, 2012
10:58 am

What to do in the off season? – I think that depends on how the remainder of this postseason goes.

I’m disgusted with last nite right now, so I probably wouldn’t make the best of decisions. I’m saying dump JJ’s salary for a 1st pick. Get anything for Marvin. Other irrational or emotional moves. Keep Teague and ZaZa, start over. See, I’m irrational right now.

What I saw last nite in the last 6 or so min. after BOS started to score after the subs let them back in was wreckless aggression, whereas for 3Q we had purposeful aggression. By that I mean, for 3Q we moved the ball and found cracks, then exploited openings. Rightfully so, BOS stepped up its D in the 4Q, but once we got tied/down a few points late, we charged aggressively into the D, instead of showing patience to probe and find cracks.
I can understand LD giving a blow to the starters, and one would have hoped that a former starter (Marvin) would hold the 2nd unit together.

I was super-pissed last night and could barely sleep, but …. I look at it like this …
If a 4/5 matchuup is supposed to be the most-evenly contested, then things are living true to form. We missed a GREAT opportunity last night, and I dread the thought of 2-straight games in BOS (home-cooking/return of Rondo and/or Ray Allen), but it is what it is.

“…First, why would you want JC 1 or 2? The Hawks have been there and done that. Plus, how did it work with JC 1 & 2 in Portland & Washington? So now after two playoffs games you want to bring back the same guy (JC1) who was on the team when they were eliminated last year. Also, if JC 1 & JC 2 were still on the team the Hawks likely would have been playing the Heat or Bulls…” – shake & break

1. JC1 [Jamal Crawford] was instrumental in the Hawks advancing past the Bucks and the Magic in the first round[s] of the 2010 and 2011 playoffs.
2. JC1 was instrumental in six [6] postseason victories last year.
3, JC1 scored 19+ points in six [6] postseason games last year in which the Hawks went 5-1.
4, JC1 and Iso-Joe [Joe Johnson] led the Hawks to its first EC Semifinals victory since 1997.
5. JC1 made 7-10 clutch buckets/daggers in last year’s postseason [Remember the three pointer made by JC1 vs. the Magic in Game 3 with less than six seconds left in the game.]
6. JC1 came off the bench to score 23+ points in four consecutive postseason games vs. the Magic in 2011.
7. JC1 takes/took scoring pressure off [of] Iso-Joe particularly in the postseason.
8. JC1, as a reserve, was the second leading scorer for the Blazers and averaged 13.9~14.0ppg. [J.J.Hickson's overall scoring average for both the Blazers and the Kings combined was ~8.4ppg.]
9. By averaging 13.9~14.0ppg this season as a reserve [player], JC1 averaged more points than every Hawks’ player on this year’s Atlanta Hawks’ roster except Iso-Joe and J-Smoove [Josh Smith].
9. JC1 led the NBA in FT% this past regular season [0.927 or 92.7%]. [Converting/making late-game free throws are extremely important in the playoffs.]
10. JC1 scored 8-10+ 4th quarter points in about 2-3 postseason games last year. [Last night, the Hawks, I believe, scored a total of 14 points in the 4th quarter of Game 2 vs. the Boston Celtics.]
11. JC1 was the best “manufacturer” of points when it came to driving to the basket, creating contact/drawing fouls and going to the free throw line for scoring opportunities.
12. JC1 averaged 20.0+ppg vs. the Magic in the 2011 playoffs which led the Hawks in scoring.

Let’s see if the Hawks advance past the first round of the playoffs this postseason [without JC1]. Let’s see how many times the Hawks score 90+ points this postseason vs. the Boston Celtics [and future playoff opponents, if any].

From Mark Bradley;

Said Larry Drew, asked before the game about the Hawks’ penchant for losing when they shouldn’t: “We’ve seen that. You’ve been around here.”

Drew: “I’ll be that little birdie on their shoulder tonight just to remind these guys that we’re going to have to have a supreme effort from everybody.”.

If I’m LD, the in-flight movie on the way to Boston will be a replay of the Heat game when Charles Barkley dogged them out.

And for those complaining about the bench, I think both Celtics bench and Hawks bench scored 14 pts. The big difference is Paul Pierce carried them, and Doc rode the guys he needed to. LD stuck with his bench too long, and JJ disappeared in the 4th.

If Josh is lost for games 3 & 4 can the hawks figure out a way to get one win in boston, and bring the series back to Atlanta at 2-2 for game five, where you then may have Josh and ZsaZsa back. The Hawks need to figure out a way to get one game in boston, and the best way is Nolan Richardson on way of 40 minutes hel-l basketball meaning the Hawks have to run and gun for 48 minutes off made shots and missed shots they have to push the ball and gets shots up in 12 to 14 seconds of the beginning of the shot clock, this will make it a volume shooting game and up tempo where the Hawks can get the scoring in the mid 90’s as oppose to high 70’s or low 80’s. That is where VladRad can help by spacing and shooting threes along with other shooters, the Hawks were 5th in the league at 3 point shooting percentage, that is a weapon use it.

Smoove’s injury is the Lead Story on ESPN.com.

Sprained Patella tendon according to the internet is 3-7 days off. Our Drs. on here can tell us better.

Man, if Smoove is out, I guess some possibilities are:

Start:

Collins
Ivan
JJ
Hinrich
Teague

Or:

Ivan
Vlad
Marvin
JJ
Teague

Or:

Collins
Ivan
JJ
Green
Teague

Or:

Ivan
Vlad
JJ
Hinrich
Teague

Actually, several more options, including starting TMac, like:

Collins
Ivan
TMac
JJ
Teague

I say at this point, quit saving TMac – the seasons about over if you do – play him 30 mpg, and if he breaks down, it’s on him. What are you saving him for? He may rescue us. I say, even if Josh is healthy, start:

Ivan
Josh
TMac
JJ
Teague

And have Hinrich, Marvin, and Collins off the bench – see what happens. 8 man rotation.
I wish Dampier was ready. There was a time just 3 years ago he could have really helped us in this series. Maybe less than that ago really.

BIG DOG

May 2nd, 2012

This how Hawks win this series.

1. Teague vs Rondo – Teague must continue to play aggressive and attack and become the leader on this team.

2. Joe vs Avery – Here is the adjustment moving Joe back to big guard and posting up Avery in the paint making it more easy for Joe and getting better shot around the basket, no more ISO for Joe.

3.Josh vs Pierce – Here is another adjustment moving Josh SF against Pierce will shut down Pierce and also playing Josh in the post against Pierce will destroy him down low, not only that it will force Josh to play more in the paint instead of settling for Jumpshots.

4. Ivan vs Bass – No brainer Ivan would eat Bass for launch and also force LD to give Ivan more Min.

5. Collins vs KG – Want no part of Collins in the paint continue to good work Collins forcing KG away from basket.

Hawks will sweept Celtics with this adjustment.
