ra’mon hope it clears it up. basically range of motion and strength are needed with proper function. it is a loose joint for a reason with many moving muscles timed to get it right from top of neck down to your waist. knees are designed as a one dimensional lever. ok? complex vs simple.

doc, great job in explaining that, again, to Ra’mon on here. Trauma and toughness have nothing in common. I especially like your analogies to put that in plain english so, even a five year old can understand. After all, that is the goal in a report of findings.

(smiles) Even, i learned something there, I had forgotten all about the triceps, (extensor muscle) the antagonistic muscle, with synergistic function to the bideps.

It’s not like we are not happy with the win. My voice is just starting to come back after last night. But we want a series win, not just a Game 1 win, and to do that the Hawks will have to do some things better. Pointing that out isn’t negativity.

Well, umm, yes it is negativity. We all need to appreciate the GAME 1 win since we have ONLY PLAYED 1 game. Its called the best out of 7 for a reason. No need to point out negative things based on a win that the Celtics had against us earlier in the regular season in the same exact fashion.

What if we were in Boston shoes last night and of course Boston were in ours, how then would we respond to our beloved Hawks?? What if Boston posted a 20-6 lead on us in the opening quarter? What if Josh was Rondo last night? What if Al Horford was Ray Allen? Oh, well, maybe he was since they are both hurt. My point is, be proud that the Atlanta (quiet but mature-natured) Hawks WERE the Hawks last night and NOT Boston (cry baby) Celtics.

now that i think about it maybe it is the bouncing basketball that rondo uses to keep himself from falling and tripping as he roars op the court at full speed in and out, between players. take that ball away from him and he looks as mortal as i do at 61, tripping over my own feet walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night in the dark.

Ra’mon,

To date, I just didn’t recall seeing Al ever having to play through an injury..

Except for 14 games missed in 2009, Al has been pretty reliable (healthwise). Prior to this season, the number of games Al played in was 81, 67, 81, and 77 last year. That’s 306 games out of a possible 328 regular season games (93%) in 4 years. So I’m sure this is new for him.

Thanks for the article doc.

Josh Smith and JJ are options 1A and 1B on this Hawks team. So if you’re Josh, and you see JJ making $20 mil, while you’re only making $13 mil…how much would you want from the Hawks on your next deal (especially if Josh keeps up this high level of play in the playoff).

I think Josh will want $16 – $18 mil on his contract. Anyways, that will be a discussion for after the playoffs.

As for your boy Woody :smile: , I think Najeh posted the stat the other day. Woody’s record in road playoff games is 2-12, and his average margin of defeat is 18 points.

Doc, thanks so much for explaining it. As I said, I wasn’t saying it out of disrespect for Al. I wanted to know what the difference is. Admittedly, before you just explaining it now, I didn’t know the extent of the injury, only knew the time frame that was reported. And you’re correct pitchers wouldn’t come back from an arm injury before a year majority of the time. But I didn’t see the same standards being applied, because Al isn’t asked to throw 70-100 hard as he can, so I didn’t see it being that type of injury (I actually think pitching in the MLB is the toughest job in ALL of sports, because all the pressure is on you). But I understand now. And as I said yes, I was curious about his toughness, but not his commitment.

ra’mon, have suggested that maybe al has the strength os a high schooler trying to play in a mans game with the worlds best. fractured arm would have been better than what he had. can you imagine what force was behind having the muscle covering your chest wall ripped off of you and how much that would hurt? good article to read btw, i hope you took the time to read it, i also think fans are a bit cavalier about what they see as though it is all that easy doing it among the absolute best in the game night after night. we weekend warriors dont come close though we make an industry out of our day to day injuries that keep us from work and form using a typewriter then criticize these guys if they arent healthy in the least amount of time. it was an injury that was expected to take 6 to 9 months, not sure why they projected much less. shoot, hinrich came back quicker than most.

a pitcher gets five nights off to rest, al would get less than 48 hours after pushing and shoving grabbing and pulling all the while waving his arm in every direction possible. there is a huge difference and one is about shoulder girdle strength the other about timing and arm speed with lower body strength more so than upper body strength. i pitched. ;-) also pitchers dont come back in three months time from and shoulder reconstruction either ya know, if at all?

Rondo was approaching the Ref from behind in an aggressive manner.
Should not matter if he *stepped on his foot or not [and tripped].
*[stepping on his foot is touching the Ref as well].
players know there is an ‘`invisible circle of trust surrounding the ref `’
that -MUST- not be penetrated.
Therefore any player should not put himself in position to violate that trust.
kinda like hitting a punt returner who calls a fir catch:
one doesn`t get to say ‘`oops`’ … the penalty is called regardless.

Now Mr Stern:

In the 2009 playoffs, Hawks had home court, and beat Miami by 26 points in game 1. And then we lost game 2 by 15. We lost game 3 by 29, and won game 4 by 10.

Very inconsistent. Hopefully this year’s Hawks will not make the mistakes those Hawks did. I think we are a better team now, and we have a better coach than we did back then.

doc,

Hawks have the record for most lopsided post season series loss in NBA history, being outscored by 101 points against Orlando. Since the Knicks just lost game 1 by 33, maybe Woody can help the Hawks out, by helping the Knicks to get the record.

For all of you worried about Paul Pierce . . he’s 15 – 52 FG ( 29% FG ) . . and a WHOPPING 1 – 17 3FG ( 6% FG ) in 3 games vs the Hawks this year. Only 9 TOTAL FT attempts as well

Yeah, he has the ability to break out of that slump and have a big game against us. But the Hawks are OBVIOUSLY doing something right against him this season. Maybe it’s the people guarding him? Maybe is the team rotation defense?

Grand-Daddy!

What is taking the league offices so long to make a ruling? It’s like waiting for a jury decision. If, it was no suspension or, 1 game, we would have already heard something today. It must be multiple, hugh?

It serves the arrogant Celtics right for coming in here, bragging about themselves and KG calling Jeff a “nobody”? Trying to come in our house and claim our fans as theirs is just dumb. You are on the road – azzholes! Now you know!!!

And, when has the whistle ever been good to the Hawks? LMAO What a boat load of cry-babies that came in here looking for home cooking, calls and bail outs! The Hawks played as the more mature and seasoned play off team last night. I’ll be at game 2!

Let’s Go Hawks!

And about Twin, who was complaining that he was gassed and 31 minutes were too much? Twin has been resting all year long, he doesn’t need his minutes monitored for fatigue. Let him do his thang for as long as his team needs him to do it. Zaza, is NOT walking through that door anytime soon. Ivan is Twin’s back up. We got two change of pace running backs now.

We definitely don’t need Ivan going Rondo. Yawl know that boy is bi-polar and one-synapse from being a fool.

Paul Pierce has not had good games against the Hawks this year because of injuries, Joe’s defense and Ray Allen. Ray Allen spaces the floor, and allows Pierce to get to his spots. Without Ray Allen, Pierce is much easier to guard, especially since a lot of his explosion is gone. Same principles apply to Joe, except Pierce has stepped up in crunch time much more than Joe.

I know he should be suspended and the majority of us thinks he deserves it, but I’m okay with Rondo playing Game 2. You can bet that works more for us than against us simply that we don’t seem to have the same intensity when the opponents don’t come in at full strength.
We should approach as loser go home, but we don’t up to this point.

Simply put, there’s nothing better IMO than sending a Boston or LAL home for the season. They shouldn’t need any motivation, but there could be a letup without Rondo.

O’Brien, I think those series in which they had let downs were learning experiences for this team (mainly Joe and Josh). Also, you could say only 5 or so players who actually played major minutes in 2009 playoffs, are still playing now (i.e. the bench). The Hawks appeared quite mature in last season’s postseason play. However despite their lapses at moments, the Hawks have yet to lose any playoff series where they were the best team on the court talent wise. Last years Bulls’ team and 2009 Magics’ team (much different than the 2010 team the Hawks beat), were a more talented team without question. Out of the three best players in this series, two are Hawks. This series, the Hawks are the more talented team, even without Zaza and Al. And also, this season the Hawks have won way more closed games than I remember them doing since Steve Smith was here.

In Game 2 look for Teague to be even more aggressive also. No one can stay in front of him. And now Doc has KG shadowing Josh on the perimeter, so the lanes will be free of any shot blockers. In my mind, the biggest test of the series will be the first quarter of game three. If the Hawks come out running and playing aggressive IN BOSTON, they will win the series in 5 or 6 games. The last time the Celtics saw the Hawks in Boston, majority of the Hawks were ‘playoff rookies’. Well I can make the case that playing in the hostile environment of Chicago is just as difficult as playing in Boston. And the Hawks won in Chicago!

The funny part about the series is even if the Hawks swept the Celtics, the story would be the ‘demise of Big Three’, not the coming out of Atlanta. And Atlanta would still be MAJOR underdogs against Chicago without Rose.

Marvin Williams’ stat line for Game 1 vs Boston – 2pts, 1reb, 0asts, 2pfs [personal fouls] in 13:34 of playing time

2pts/814secs = x pts/2160secs
814x = 4320
x = 5.307pts

1reb/814secs = x rebs/2160secs
814x = 2160
x = 2.653rebs
814x = 2160

Buddy Grizzard should be Marvin’s agent because he can spin it that Marvin is just one of the most complete SFs left playing this postseason. I don’t see it and anytime he cranks up that fade away 3 pointer, he should go put on Zaza’s boot so he can save face going forward.

Several points:
*[watched Rondo replay again several angles]

* Stephen A Smith is an imbecile:
based on his attempted argument in Rondo`s behalf.

* Getting one`s headband ripped off is most assuredly a ‘`foul`’
and not a jump-ball … at least back in the day.
I think the rule for jump-ball reads:
-dual possession-
*’`not`’*
player ‘`A`’ holding the ball …..
while opposing player ‘`B`’ …..
holds player ‘`A`s`’ headband simultaneously ?

* Rondo made all kids of contact with the Ref
before he chest bunped the guy.
He tripped, stumbled due to going after the Ref and basically
walking up his leg.
No wonder he stumbled.
Also the Ref could not see and had no idea of intent.
Rondo knew better.
It wasn`t even his place to be there, for any reason.
He touched the Ref by stepping on the back of his leg.
Really more of a bump with his knee than his foot.

* Two game minimum

* After reading Donaghy`s book ‘`Personal Foul`’
If Rondo don`t get at least two games; the officials will make him pay !

* Yawl need to read that book … stern`s a crook /// – yes poetry -
