OK, now that I got that out the way…to bad we wont have AL, but look at it this way, we havent had him basically all season so we will be find with that..now Zaza is another story..must have him back HEALTHY if we plan on beating Boston. No since in getting him back if he cant run nor jump due to the foot injury.

Aaaaw MC, you look so handsome and smarty with those Dick Clark glasses. Great interview from Joe Johnson. Thanks for that live video, from last night.
What a great win for the home team! Let’s Go Hawks!
Mr. Horford, take your time and get well soon. We hope to see you ready to roll next season. Shut it down bruh, the real fans know your worth and heart, we don’t want to see you risk further damage this season. Enjoy your wife and your life!
Basketball will be here when you return, Sir.

Kudos to my Grand-Daddy and SlimJr. That fool caught me in a really bad mood last night. Normally, I wouldn’t even respond to idiots like that. If you don’t like my opinions, fine: Make your points and move on, just don’t twist my words and insult my person. Of all people, “I” would never crown Drew as COTY! If you don;t know that, then you don’t wanna’ know me. Ha Ha!
Stay on topic and, we good. I welcome genuine and opposing views, that’s what makes for great dialogue. Great counter points have changed a lot of my held opinions and, i love that intelligent banter.
Don’t come on here slinging mud because you got personal issues at home. I fight dirty and, yo mamma is fair game all day long – she should have reared you better.

I like the Asante Samuel trade, it looks like a done deal for us Falcon fans. His lock down ability will be valuable only if, the defensive line is doing their job. It all starts on the lines. We have got to pressure the QB on every play to nake the corners worth anything out there on that island.

Wassup Ms. Dee? Great to see your comments. Like you, I am very concerned about Zaza, being that extremity care is my specialty. I have shared a treatment plan for his earliest possible return. I hope the Hawks training staff are doing ALL the right things for Zaza’s speedy recovery.
I fear, he may not return for the post season at all. Thank God for Ivan Johnson and Jason Collins. We are down to nothing, big man wise. (see Sund)
I sure hope Sund is packing his bags and calling the movers today.

Who cares about Asante Samuels. Hawks should be on the front page of the sports section. They the only team in Atlanta (minus the Dream) that has done something in the playoffs in the last 5 years.
Falcons are a just a big tease. Blank makes a little move in the off season to hype the fans up and then they get blown out in the playoffs.

see the al situation has been finalized. i dont know the situation of course but i am not sure the doc was acting in al’s best interest. they know how weak he is. anyway i am sure after he went to it as we all do he woke up the next morning wanting something for pain as he probably tightened up pretty bad. i can identify folks that havent played the game at any high level or had a siginificant injury or illness of their own when they come spouting off about how someone is weak because he doesnt come back essentially the next day after a significant injury.
most weekend warriors would be at about 50% range of motion about now still cradling their arm and saying they cant go to work because it is too hard to type on the computer. it is a miracle he is even considering playing.

IMO, the humility that Joe shows when he honestly says something like “I accidently hit the shot” is what makes him slightly less of a “killer” than guys like Paul Pierce or Kobe. Those guys have massive egos and would likely (if they had made the exact same shot) said something about “making it happen for my team”. Joe’s comments are very consistent with what we see from him every game… he doesn’t complain to the refs, doesn’t flop, doesn’t pound his chest or point to the sky… he’s just a talented dude playing the game he loves. And he isn’t afraid to admit when he is more lucky than good.

Someone please tell Jsmoove that if Teague is beside or in front of him on the break give up the ball and fill a lane. We would get at least 10 more pts a game and Smooves TO’s would go dwn. Also what is with him rolling the ball slowly to Teague when he takes it out. These things keep us from using our team speed and scoring easy buckets. More Pick and Rolls with Smoove and JT = easier buckets and less iso Joe. Let’s Go Hawks!

The thing with Joe Johnson, is that he needs to realize this is one of the last chances he is going to have to cement a legacy. If he carries the team to the finals and maybe wins it all, he is going to have a spot in the Hall of Fame.
It’s up to Joe.

PREACH! I saw that slow roll to Teague too! I was miffed and, thought that was down right disrespectful and, that it delayed the game against his own team as well. Great comments here – my thoughts verbatum. Keep those insights coming.

Marvin had 11 & 4 last night after dropping 29 on a NYK defense that didn’t even guard him at all and people act like he is having a breakthrough.
F That. I said for 3 years he would have a breakout year but he underachieved his whole career. 11 & 4 last night and people are raving about him. LOL. If he actually had body strength, he would be converting plays at the rim REGULARLY. If you saw CP3 last night, he was absorbing contact at the rim and was unfazed – he was still in great position to score. He wasn’t falling down after being hit by a guy’s pinky.
I also feel Jeff Teague is more important to this team’s success than is anybody else. Joe was right – this team will succeed or fail through Jeff (even though it’s lame Joe didn’t seem to hold himself accountable).

Yeah doc, those atrophied muscles will have to be re-trained all over again. Al may never recover those hard, soft and connective tissues 100%. But, he will be great again. He may have to alter his mechanics and game though to achieve that pre-injury status. All we can hope for is: MMI

Agreed. It’s really comical. If the guy has a decent game people act like he has turned the corner. With his length and shooting ability, and the fact that he is unguarded most of the time, he should be getting 11 and 4 with his eyes closed.

Atlanta Hawks 2011-2012 Regular Season Final Report Card by High-Sider
Grading Scale: A [100 – 90]
B [89 – 80]
C [79 – 70]
D [69 – 60]
F [59 >=]
I – Incomplete
W – Withdrawal
Atlanta Hawks – B+ [88]
With one game remaining in this truncated regular season, the Atlanta Hawks’ win-loss record is currently 39-26 [0.600]. The Hawks could finish this season at either 40-26 [0.606] or 39-27 [0.591]. In a standard 82-game NBA regular season, the Atlanta Hawks would be on pace to win approximately 48 -50 [48.45 - 49.70] games. The Atlanta Hawks have clinched the 5 [five] seed in the Eastern Conference Standings and are guaranteed to at least tie the Boston Celtics for the fourth best record in the Eastern Conference; tiebreaker goes to the Celtics. Considering the new and major personnel changes, coupled with the fact that, I believe, the Hawks [have] had the most games missed by players due to injuries, most notably Al Horford, I will have to “tip my hat” to the outstanding job of Larry Drew and the [Atlanta Hawks’] players. Some [AJC Hawks’ bloggers] have stated [that] the regular season means “nothing.” I am not one of those [individuals] who subscribes to that way of thinking [philosophy]. I will agree that playoff performance takes precedence over or supersedes regular season performance but the [NBA] regular season is very vital in its own right. The NBA regular season is important because 1) it determines which [NBA] teams will make the playoffs and their respective seedings/positions, 2) it allows individual teams to build an identity and individual players and coaches to create roles within the team structure, 3) it helps players and teams develop chemistry, cohesion, rhythm, and confidence, 4) it gives teams and players an opportunity to better understand its opponents schemes, strategies, nuances, strengths and weaknesses and 5) it provides teams and players “real” in-game experience in dealing with high-pressure, high-stress situations and circumstances.
Josh Smith – B+ [88]
Josh Smith has had the best season of his career statistically by averaging 18.7ppg, 9.6rpg, 3.8apg, 1.42spg and 1.77bpg. Josh Smith has proven this year that he could [theoretically] be the number one option for the Atlanta Hawks. Josh Smith, with his all-around play and performance, has led the Hawks to many victories without Al Horford and Joe Johnson, to some extent, due to injury. As I stated once before, Josh Smith should have been an All-Star this season and has a real possibility of being voted [in] as one of nine All-NBA Forwards for the 2011-2012 NBA regular season. Josh Smith could have earned an “A” this season, however, “J-Smoove” still takes a tad bit too many ill-advised, deep, perimeter jumpshots, commits too many turnovers which leads to his less than two-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio [3.8apg/2.51topg] and shoots a mediocre 62.9% [0.629] from the free throw line. Josh Smith is definitely one of the leaders of the Atlanta Hawks and deserves the title and role of Team Captain.
Joe Johnson – B [87]
Joe Johnson, the six-time All-Star, has put together another solid campaign statistically. Joe Johnson’s current point[s], assist[s] and rebound[s] averages for this regular season are 18.9ppg, 3.7rpg and 3.9apg. Joe Johnson has had a particularly good shooting performance this season. Joe Johnson has shot 45.2%FG, 39.0%3FG and 84.9%FT. In addition, Joe Johnson has made a number of clutch shot this season at a high percentage. One AJC Hawks blogger [“northcyde”] provided a statistic via link to basketball-reference.com which showed Joe Johnson’s outstanding shooting accuracy, particularly from the 3pt. range, in the last two minutes of the 4th quarter and overtime. He,” northcyde,” and the “clutch shooting” statistic was immediately criticized and dismissed by a fellow and regular blogger because the “clutch shooting” by Joe Johnson more than likely came against -0.500 [NBA] teams [or inferior opponents]. I have had my disagreements with “northcyde” on the AJC Hawks blog in the past but, in this case, I will have to support “northcyde” in providing that “clutch shooting” statistic of Joe Johnson for this regular season. Whether an NBA team has a winning percentage of +0.500 or -0.500, a “clutch shot” is [still] a “clutch shot.”
Jeff Teague – B [86]
Jeff Teague has had the breakout season all [of] you Teague fans have been waiting for [this year]. After two years of sporadic and limited playing time, Jeff Teague has finally arrived. In his first year as a starter, Jeff Teague averaged 12.5ppg, 4.9apg, 2.4rpg and 1.6spg while just committing 2.06topg. Jeff Teague has made the most of his opportunity this year and has solidified himself as the point guard of the future for the Atlanta Hawks. Mr. Teague affectionately known [to some bloggers] as MVT [Most Valuable Teague] has shot a respectable 47.4%FG, 33.1%3FG and 75.7%FT. Jeff Teague should be strongly considered as this regular season’s MIP [Most Improved Player].
Al Horford – W [Withdrawal]
Al Horford has played [in] just 11 games this year and, if Mr. Horford does not play in the final regular season game, he will have played in only one-sixth [1/6th] of this year’s 66-game compressed season.
Marvin Williams – D+ [68]
[Lower] Back surgery (check); No Jamal Crawford (check); Season-ending [pectoral] injury to Al Horford (check). The three aforementioned events should have led to an offensive breakout season for Marvin Williams, however, the offensive explosion [for Marvin Williams] never occurred. Marvin Williams, this year, has currently averaged only 10.2ppg and 5.2rpg. Although he has shot the basketball at a respectable level this season [43.6%FG, 39.0%3FG and 78.6%FT], Marvin Williams should have averaged no less than 14.5ppg and 7.5rpg. I will admit Marvin Williams seems to play better coming off the bench. Maybe Marvin Williams has found a new role on the Atlanta Hawks as a reserve [player].
Zaza Pachulia – B [84]
Zaza Pachulia has filled in admirably for the injured Al Horford at the Center position. Z-Pac[k] averaged 7.8ppg and 7.9rpg while shooting 49.9%FG and 74.1FT%. Those are solid numbers for Zaza Pachulia. Even though he is limited athletically, Pachulia has given the Hawks effort, energy and physicality at the Center position.
Willie Green – B [84]
I realize he’s [Willie Green] no Jamal Crawford but, to his credit, Willie Green has played and shot the basketball well considering his limited playing time. In this season, Willie Green has averaged 7.6ppg while shooting 47.0%FG, 43.6%3FG and 85.5%FT in only 17.3mpg. In addition, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Green several days ago welcomed their newest addition to the family – a baby boy. As you can see, Mr. Willie [Green] was not shooting blanks this season or last season – literally and figuratively.
Kirk Hinrich – C [73]
After missing the first month of the [regular] season to recuperate from shoulder surgery, Kirk Hinrich has averaged 6.5ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.77apg while shooting 41.2%FG, 34.6%3FG and 78.1%FT. After a slow start, Hinrich is showing signs of re-gaining his rhythm and confidence.
Ivan Johnson – [B] 83
28-year old rookie and former NBA D-League player, Ivan Johnson is averaging 6.3ppg and 4.0rpg while shooting 50.9%FG, 40.0%3FG and 72.2%FT in just 16.6mpg. Ivan Johnson is the Atlanta Hawks’ newest enforcer; he’s the quintessential “tough guy.” “Mr. 9 to 5” is straight blue collar and brings the lunch pail to every game while wearing work boots, Dickies pants, a hard hat and a tool belt. He [Ivan Johnson] is the type of player Joe Johnson has been pushing the Atlanta Hawks’ management to acquire.
Jannero Pargo – [B-] 82
Jannero Pargo can be “gunner good” or “gunner bad” but you can be rest-assured [that] he [Pargo] will be a[n] [unconscious] “gunner” nonetheless. For a reserve player, Pargo is absolutely fearless when it comes to taking [and making] the big shot. Pargo is not afraid of “the moment.” Pargo has averaged 5.6ppg and 1.9apg while shooting 41.5%FG, 38.4%3FG and 95.0%FT in limited playing time [13.4mpg].
Tracy McGrady – [C-] 72
Former NBA perennial All-Star, Tracy McGrady is averaging 5.3ppg, 2.9rpg and 2.1apg in 16.1mpg while shooting 43.9%FG, 48.4%3FG and 67.5%FT. McGrady has shown flashes of brilliance but is currently at his best in playing the role of “facilitator” or “Point Forward.” McGrady did express his displeasure regarding his lack of playing to the media in an expletive-filled tirade, however, the fallout and repercussions [of that tirade] were surprisingly minimal. As a result, McGrady’s tenure with the Atlanta Hawks may [unfortunately] be a “one [year] and done.”
Vladimir Radmanovic – [D] 67
Vladimir Radmanovic aka VladRad has averaged 4.5ppg and 3.0rpg in 15.5mpg while shooting 37.6%FG, 37.3%3FG and 75.9%FT. Although VladRad made a few clutch shots and big 3’s this year for the Hawks, he didn’t seem to play with the intensity and the desire the Hawks needed. Radmanovic’s movement on the court appeared [to be] lethargic and mechanical and his body language was nonchalant and lackadaisical.
Jerry Stackhouse – [C-] 70
Long-time veteran, Jerry Stackhouse did give the Atlanta Hawks a valiant effort in his limited opportunities of playing time but, as the old cliché goes, “Father Time is undefeated.” Jerry Stackhouse averaged just 3.7ppg while shooting 37.9%FG, 36.1%3FG and 91.3%FT in 9mpg.
Jason Collins – [D] 65
Jason Collins is averaging 1.1ppg and 1.6rpg while shooting 36.1%FG and 46.7%FT in 10.0mpg. Jason Collins appeared to have regressed considerably this year with respect to his overall game particularly in the area of mobility, coordination and footwork. This is probably Jason Collins’ last season with the Atlanta Hawks.
Erick Dampier – I [Incomplete]
I literally can’t remember any [stand-out] plays Erick Dampier made for the Atlanta Hawks. I really have no recollection of him [playing] on the court for the Atlanta Hawks and I have seen just about every Atlanta Hawks’ regular season game this year. If my calculations are correct, Dampier has played less than a total of 80 minutes [14 games times 5.6mpg or 14gms x 5.6mpg] all season long for the Atlanta Hawks. Erick Dampier has not played enough time [minutes] for the Atlanta Hawks to be given a fair and/or accurate assessment [grade].
Larry Drew – B+ [89]
“You are what your record is” and Larry Drew will have guided the Atlanta Hawks in this lockout-shortened regular season to a win-loss record of either, at worst, 39-27 or, at best, 40-26. As previously stated, the Atlanta Hawks are guaranteed to finish the 2011-2012 regular season with the 4th [fourth] best win-loss record in the Eastern Conference and could possibly have home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs against the Boston Celtics. All the critics, cynics, detractors and naysayers can lambaste, denounce, discredit, rebuke, reprimand, disparage, condemn, castigate, admonish and belittle Larry Drew for his decision-making, substitution patterns, player rotations and minutes distributions, lineup changes, offensive and defensive schemes/strategies and play calling but there is one important and main constant, which is the Atlanta Hawks [team] is winning [more games than it is losing games]. Even though the Atlanta Hawks have endured a plethora of player injuries and have undergone huge player personnel changes, the Hawks are still considered a formidable playoff team and a “tough out” by many NBA analysts, experts and pundits.
Rick Sund and the ASG – C [75]
Rick Sund and the Atlanta Hawks’ brass [ASG], once again, have failed to address the weaknesses and lack of size at the Center position. Current injuries to Al Horford and Zaza Pachulia have left the Hawks to rely upon a mediocre, at best, Jason Collins, an undersized Ivan Johnson, and a hardly-used Erick Dampier as temporary stop gaps at the [backup] Center position. Another glaring weakness for the Atlanta Hawks, as a result of the Al Horford injury, is the lack of an additional proven, legitimate, quality and complementary scorer. One frequent AJC Hawks’ blogger, “Rod from College Park,” said it best when he said [to paraphrase] that “the other NBA teams have their hired assassins headed into the playoffs while the Hawks have Joe Johnson” and that “the Atlanta Hawks could have had Jamal Crawford [who is/was an “assassin” that wanted to play for the Atlanta Hawks] but the Hawks didn’t want to pay him [Crawford].” I interpreted/understood the term “assassin” used by “Rod from College Park” in this [sports-related] context to mean or describe a [basketball] player who is not afraid of taking and making big and/or clutch shots in late game or high-pressure situations. It’s ironic that the very player [Jamal Crawford] the Hawks let “walk for nothing” is the very player [that] the Hawks may need the most in the first round of the playoffs versus the Boston Celtics. Hawks’ fans should note that in Jamal Crawford’s first season with the Hawks, he [Crawford] was considered the new “Boston Strangler” because of his clutch shots, huge performances and offensive prowess in games against the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics really had no answer for him [Crawford] in that 2009-2010 regular season as the Hawks swept the regular season series matchup against the Celtics 4-0; that was also the year the Boston Celtics won the Eastern Conference crown and advanced to the 2010 NBA Finals. In conclusion, with one game remaining in the regular season, the Hawks are currently 26th [out of 30] in the NBA in attendance. How can you [Rick Sund and the ASG] allow your franchise which will have gone to its 5th [fifth] consecutive postseason this year and has advanced to three consecutive Eastern Conference Semifinals to finish at or near the bottom quintile [or quantile/sextile] in league attendance? Does the Atlanta Hawks’ franchise have a Marketing Executive or, better yet, does the [Atlanta Hawks] franchise have a Marketing Department/Group? Bottom line, the Atlanta Hawks’ fan/crowd attendance is at an unacceptable level for a perennial playoff team.

Buddy,
Teague just needs to stay focused. When he does, we can and WILL beat ANYONE in this league. He should attack attack attack.
He and Blake got into it last night. He stood over Blake in disgust. He also stood over CP3 after blocking his shot.
Maybe teams “bully” Teague because of his size.

Those Philly fans are NUTS. I lived there three years while getting my Master of Divinity.

Ha! Ha. Grew up in a house that was right in front of Lakeshore. Used to go to those baseball, football and basketball games all the time when I was younger. I can’t even tell you the number of times I have seen people get caught up at that school. We had to let a couple of people in our house, to keep them from getting seriously injured. Luckily there was not as much gunplay as there is today, but many people took a lot of losses back there. Lakeshore is an Elementary shool now.

Wolf’’s Law!
“also ray allen ha bone spurs in his ankle. drmaryb, doc can u give me a summation of that type of injury?” -Briggy-
_____________
In medicine, there is a condition called Wolf’s Law. In summation, it states that when bones are stressed, or pounded against another bone or hard surfaces the bone will lay down extra bone to support the external forces being applied. (Bone Up!)
e.g. Underneath the meta tarsal base of the big toe, as it strikes the hard surface of the ground or pavement while walking, this is called a bunion due to repetitive trauma. A podiatrist will typically treat the symptom and, fit their patients with orthopedics.
A fine chiropractor would treat the cause and correct all misalignments of the pelvis, knee, ankle and foot joints. That, along with demonstrating a corrected gait cycle and proper shoe ergonomics is the surest way to correct this issue.
Now, the ankle as in Ray Allen’s case, is an encapsulated joint that has hyaline cartilage to cushion the shock and absorb the blows between the four ankle bones. When that cartilage has worn out, due to repetitive traumas the bones will thicken and grow bone spurs (arthritis) to thicken and remodel the bone joints to bear up under the applied repetitive stresses. It takes about fifteen years to accumulate bone spurs.
These spurs can re-absorb themselves and disappear, though highly unlikely in weight bearing joints, if and when, the repetitive blows stop and, all the misalignments are corrected. The podiatrist who treats the symptoms and not the root causes, will perform useless surgery for temporary relief to the patient by shaving the spurs away, but within a matter of years the spurs will return because the causitive problem was never addressed to begin with.
Chronic mal posture, vertebral disc degeneration of the spine will also adopt Wolf’s Law when the disc height decreases, and the surrounding joints effuse and sclerotic changes appear in the spinal bones. It is very common in my practice to see osteophytes (bone spurs) in the spinal joints as well. The worse ones are those that occlude/interfere with the spinal canal space and the nerve root
exits. Surgery is highly recommended in those instances.
Back to Ray Allen, he should just retire and hang up the jock strap. IMHO.

“Forget Al. He said he’d only contribute offensively – not defensively. Yeah like that helps in the PLAYOFFS where DEFENSE is ESSENTIAL. How can he say he cannot be held responsible for defense but not offense, since he was injured?” – JeJe
Jeje, did you miss this in the last blog?:
“I knew from the very beginning that I wasn’t going to be able to get my strength until later this summer but I have very, very little strength in the post where I can’t hold my own ground,” Horford said. “The playoffs are intense. The intensity goes up. You can go in and play in a practice. You can even play in a regular-season game. But the playoffs are different. The way that I play, and to be most effective to the team, I’m not at that point.”
Sounds to me like Al has realized that he is needed defensively, and doesn’t yet have the strength to defend in the paint. Wouldn’t you rather that he ADMIT that?????
I’m happy to see him showing some sense AND seeing where the team needs him. IN THE PAINT.
But somehow to you, he’s still wanting to just shoot jumpers, lol.

But, I saw Nique about fourteen years ago with a different wife then. So, if I’m correct this would be wifey number three. This girl is a player on our team and she is a Lawyer. Celtics Hub!
Here’s an interesting take on Mr. Joe Johnson from a Celtics blogger on the Celtics Hub today:
“The Cardinal · 3 hours ago
I’m not a Hawks fan, but I wish everybody would stop raggin’ on the contract and look at Joe Johnson objectively. As a 2 guard, only Wade and Kobe have (arguably) been consistently better during the past 5 years. Fact is (in hindsight, of course), the worse trade the C’s have made in the past 15 – 20 years is Joe Johnson to the Suns. If we had kept Johnson to play beside Pierce, the C’s would have had their own version of Wade and LeBron during the mid-00’s ’til now.
Offensively, the guy can take over a game by driving, passing, or shooting the 3 as well as anyone in crunch time. Defensively, he can clamp down on any 2 guard as well as either Wade of Kobe. “Iso Joe” can be compared to “Iso Pierce” – sometimes you hate it as a fan, but it pays off more often than not when the game’s on the line, which is why each respective coach uses it so frequently.
I’d much rather see Johnson at the “3″ as opposed to the “2″ during the playoffs simply because we can match up better – but offensively, he will still be dangerous.”

“Then, when Atlanta out-scored L.A. 15-2 over the final 3:00 of the third quarter to turn a 70-70 tie into an 85-82 lead, the Hawks scored 10 points off four L.A. turnovers. After Griffin was called for goal interference (a turnover), Teague hit a trey, after Mo Williams made a bad pass, Teague hit a runner, after Griffin lost the ball out of bounds, Teague hit another 3-pointer, and after Paul made a bad pass Josh Smith had a put-back dunk off a Marvin Williams miss.” – nba.com

Yes, they did have two boys I think so. The oldest boy must be about 21 or so by now. Nique’s Mamma and the whole family really are super leaches. The Mom’s wrangled an Antique Store out of Nique and it went under pretty soon afterwards.
The whole family would run up into The Disco Kroger’s on Ponce De Leon, near the Fox Theater, Briggs. The sister would load up 5 carts of Lobster, Steaks and Alcohol at a time and just holler “I’m Nique’s Sista … put this on his tab!” Of course, Nique would be on the West Coast road trip and didn’t know of this.
Nobody would pay the bill and, Kroger’s would run article in the AJC to embarrass them into paying up. Gerald Wilkins refused to give them his phone number, but Nique was such a nice guy. Gerald was stingy and tight and probably is still loaded by putting his money away. I’m sure the first wife was not very happy being married to the Kardashian’s (the whole darned family). LOL!

Agreed. As I said before, it’s like saying: at least we don’t suck THAT much. Yet, at least the Falcons organization is willing to make changes in personnel/coaching to get over the hump, instead of ‘believing in the core’ that hasn’t done sh!t for the past four years.
“Braves beat the Dodgers on the road. That’s pretty special–for them.”
Not to mention they’re playing exciting baseball so far. They would have lost that game last year. Also, the Braves actually have a world championship in ATL, 13 straight division titles(record), and three world series alpearances… so, of course, they will get more coverage than a team that has NEVER passed the second round.

From espn.com;
Anthony has repeatedly credited Woodson for holding players accountable.
He was asked again about supporting Woodson after practice on Tuesday.
The reasons Anthony cited included, “the confidence that (Woodson) instilled into everybody, the belief that he has in everybody. Just his coaching style, the way he’s coached, (he’s) kind of a hard-nosed coach. (He) holds everybody accountable out there, saying that everybody is responsible for their own actions. I would love to see him back around here.”
Amare Stoudemire echoed that sentiment, but not to the same extent as Anthony.
“Coach Woodson has done a great job for us. He’s done a phenomenal, phenomenal job,” Stoudemire said. “I love his attitude. I love his coaching style. It would be nice (to have him back).”.
There is a rumor that the Knicks are trying to get Phil Jackson. But if they don’t, I hope they give the job to Woody. I think he has earned it, even if its just a 2 year deal.

Juwan Howard was the first 100M contract of our era, I believe it was for 10 or 12 years? Times have certainly changed.

“”He’s devastated. He’s scared,” Ninfo said. “They’re facing serious jail time even though there was no criminal intent whatsoever.” -The Canoles-
That’s what their lawyer said about his clients, a 45 year old dad and his 18 year old son who called 911 and held a 61 year old retired black man and his 57 year old wife at gun point while 5 Newton county sherriff’s rolled up and arrested the old couple and threw away the keys without interrogation for 24 hours. Who walks around with Settlement Statements in their pocket and, why should they answer to some blow-job, who is tresspassing on their property with guns?
WHEW! The couple had just purchased and closed on their new retirement home and went there to change the locks. They told the aggressive white neighbors they were the new home owners. But of course, they were called liars and were threatened to be shot at gun point while unarmed. The Sherriff said the neighbors were HERO’s on Thursday, but then were arrested on Monday.
Hours later, much more serious charges — aggravated assault, false imprisonment and criminal trespass were the charges. The guns used were AR-15’s. Heavy Artillery
The retired couple from Stone Mountain were connected you see: Their Lawyer is Don Samuel:
The couple’s son Bruno was the former Soccer Coach for Atty’s Samuel’s son.

Funny how they don’t list Josh Smith on the enemies list
KG owns Josh Smith.
Start Ivan alongside Pachulia and Josh as soon as possible,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuklWpNBhE0
Also now that playoffs are here we might as well go for broke and bench Hinrich. Yuck.
————-
Kirk Hinrich, starting SG: Kirk Hinrich is a natural point guard. He’d rather pass than score, and he’s traditionally had a superb turnover rate for his position. Naturally, the Hawks have chosen to start him at shooting guard, even though A) he can’t shoot, B) his skills complement Jeff Teague’s not one bit, and C) shooting guard is the natural position of the team’s highest-paid player.
As you might expect, Kirk Hinrich is not having a great season. Ten points off his three-point shooting percentage were stolen by Willie Green. His shoulder continues to be completely janky. And today Tony Parker committed to UCLA over Kansas, continuing a lackluster year for Jayhawk recruiting.
Hinrich is traditionally a solid defender, especially known for keeping up with rotations. That’s the thing that primarily justifies his starting at the 2: Larry Drew probably thought he and Jeff Teague would be a nasty combo for the other team’s scoring guards. But Hinrich looks very, very old and slow this year. Maybe it’s the stink of his Wizards uniform still lingering. In any case, I’m not concerned about him keeping up with Bradley’s baseline cuts, let alone Rondo’s anything.

drmaryb, doc,
thanks for the explanation on plantar, sounds like the Celtics are coming in banged up. I hope the series goes like it did in ‘87 except i want the Hawks winning this time instead of blowing game 6 and game 7.
drmaryb, dr j son actually killed himself in Florida if I remember. He did have some mental issues.
obrien, i think Woodson will get the job if Phil doesnt want it. Watching a lot of Knicks games here up North, he has gotten Anthony to buy into playing defense and Amare is better at it but still is a defensive liability. Knicks will be a tough out for Miami, Will probably go 6 games or so.
As pointguard slim have stated, best to go with a big lineup against the Celtics. The Celtics are not a good rebounding team. The only really big mismatch I see is at point guard and small forward if Smith isnt playing against Pierce.
Does anyone agree with me that Joe Johnson’s game and personality are similar to Joe Dumars from the Pistons?Difference is Johnson is stronger and taller and Joe was better at getting to the basket.

I agree with Schutlz, I think a AH coming off the bench giving you 10 minutes – even at 70% is better than Collins (hey I admit even he is playing a little better ) and Damp. Teaming Al with Marvin, Ivan, Pargo and Willie gives us a great bench (Yes – not drinking the TMAC koolaid)

Good news for the Hawks: Denver beats OKC. With that win, the Mavs would need a win and a Denver loss tomorrow to Minnesota to move up from 7 to 6. John Hollinger on Twitter speculates that the Mavs may rest their starters tomorrow, deciding that there’s no way Denver loses to Minnesota.

Josh can only defend KG for so long. How long until KG starts getting under his skin? Without Zaza to counter KG, Josh’s emotion have the ability to escalate into possible technical’s or worse, suspensions. Garnett is a scrappy player whose got the balls of an elephant. Does anyone here really think that he would let anyone on our team punk him?
Yes I’ve noticed Ivan’s name come up in these scenarios. But what sets Garnett apart from almost our entire team…is that he’s virtually immune to our own trash talkers. Do you think Ivan can take something without wanting to get into a fight with KG? I think not.
I think it’s sad that one of the biggest problems we WILL face is mental toughness. Oh that and Pierce, Garnett, Rondo, Allen.
It will most defintley be a very intresting first round.

Atlanta Hawks 2011-2012 Regular Season Final Report Card by High-Sider
Grading Scale: A [100 – 90]
B [89 – 80]
C [79 – 70]
D [69 – 60]
F [59 >=]
I – Incomplete
W – Withdrawal
***************
Complete and utter bullcrap rating for Marvin
1) He played 2 minutes LESS this season, than he did last season 26 minutes per game this year, compared to 28 minutes per game last year ). Why? Because Drew was giving scrubs like Radmanovic extra minutes when he shouldn’t have been playing. Marvin was shooting 50% 3FG ( 23 – 46 ) going into February, but was only averaging 24 minutes a game. Then he had a horrible February. Since then, he’s been part of the 2nd unit and played great as a bench player. And his minutes STILL haven’t increased that much.
2) Marvin had a PER of 16.1 this year, ranking him 3RD on the team ( if you take out Horford ). That 16.1 PER is the highest in Marvin’s career.
3) He currently ranks 17th in the league in efficiency amongst SFs, despite ranking 29th in minutes amongst that same group.
4) His win score per 48 minute number of .160 is NUMBER 1 on the Hawks ( if you take out Al Horford )
5) Defensively, when Marvin played SF, the opposing SF only had a PER of 11.4
*********************
LOL . . but he gets a D+ because YOU expected him to have a 6th man of the year type of season, despite all of the gunners Drew brought in here. Heck, JJ’s shots per game even went down this year, but Marvin’s shots and points were supposed to go up?
I’ve never defended Marvin as much as I have this year. And that’s because the guy gave us more consistent play than in past seasons. When the guy was on the court, he played his role on both offense and defense.
Marvin’s grade: 81 ( B- )

Unintelligent thinker.Too many dumb plays average shooter, ball hogger who cannot dish the rock as a point guard trade bait material

Larry Drew D+
Mike Woodson developed this team from pampers to contenders. Larry Drew’s job was to take them to the next level. He was given a depth of bench Woodson never saw and mature starters who are professionals.
I havent seen any improvement over what Woodson accomplished, proving the change did not make sense.
The bottom line is whether we get out of the second round or repeat the same scenario.
Ill give Drew his final grade after the playoffs. He got a D+ at the mid term.

@northcyde
In response to your 4/26/2012 post @2:08am, Marvin Williams’ playing time was reduced because Marvin Williams was not being productive offensively. Marvin Williams’ lack of offensive aggressiveness as well as his [often times] inability to score isn’t the fault of Larry Drew; that fault belongs to Marvin Williams. Marvin Williams’ subpar and mediocre play and performance forced Larry Drew [LD] to curb Marvin Williams’ minutes per game [mpg], take/demote Marvin Williams out/from of the starting lineup and insert Kirk Hinrich into the starting lineup. At one point during this [regular] season, Marvin Williams went through a scoring slump in which his scoring average dropped to 9.0ppg – 9.2ppg. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Marvin Williams’ scoring average may have even dipped below 9.0ppg; that is totally unacceptable considering the absence of Al Horford [due to injury] and Jamal Crawford [due to (a) non-re-signing] while Jeff Teague, a first-time starter this season for the Hawks, was able to consistently average above 12.0ppg.
It’s not like my expectation[s] of Marvin Williams’ production was out of the ordinary or severely inflated. For three seasons [2007-2009], Marvin has averaged 13.1ppg and 5.3rpg, 14.8ppg and 5.7rpg, and 13.9ppg and 6.3rpg, respectively.
Please note that Marvin Williams was a starter at the beginning of the season and was relegated to coming off the bench when his [level of] performance either subsided or demonstrated huge inconsistencies.
Marvin Williams should have been the [Atlanta] Hawks’ third leading scorer this regular season – not first-year starter, Jeff Teague. After all, Marvin Williams was the overall No. 2 pick of the 2005 NBA Draft.

northcyde`s post r e; Marv,
perfectly worded and Grade is accurate.
I might even [would have] given Marv a B+

* (kinda like grading on the curve)
____________________________________________
I have always thought Marv is / was a [4] offensively,
and he can defend the [3] and most [4`s] especially stretch [4`s].
As a 6th man role player he has played the [4] offensively
or more so in the post and done a workmanlike job.
He comes off screens for the mid-range jumper,
spots up well for corner threes, has unveiled a little jump hook,
all these weapons are much more suited to his skill set than
trying to be a slasher [which he is not].
No excuses for Marv but he has no core strength.
Perhaps his back was his drawback, who knows ?
If he were to build his core strength to the point
where he could finish through contact ?

Yeah drmaryb,
I get on and off this blog every now and again and forget to say WASSUP to ya..just trying to stay positive about my Hawks and hope they believe in themselves to just go out and PLAY SMART. I try not to get all into the ’stats’ of a player. We have all the right tools to win a 1st and 2nd round series. Now the finals is another story but if we play our positions correctly..ya know, Josh playing (INSIDE 1st then out/ box out rebounding), Joe (catch and shoot w/o the excessive dribbling), Marvin (catch & shoot/box out rebound/playing tough defense), Teague (attack the lane while drawing fouls/increasing in steals & assists), Zaza, if better, (rebound and easy putbacks) while 2nd unit ALWAYS be ready to ADD what is MISSING from the 1st unit. If we can accomplish this, WE CAN AND WILL SUCCEED!!

I feel confident that we will prevail in round 1 against the MASH unit over in Boston. But, we really need Zaza to do this. We just don’t know if Zaza will be ready to battle yet. I watched him walk out to mid court to receive the Jason Collier Memorial award and he was wearing what looked like Chuck Taylor, black canvas sneakers and, I didn’t notice a limp in his gait cycle.
However, those are the worst shoes for him to be wearing because they have no arch support.. I just hope Zaza is doing the right re-hab and, will be ready to be his full self. Meanwhile, Ivan may be the X-Factor in the paint and, I just hope Ivan plays within himself.
I don’t want to look past The Celtics and, worry about round 2 just yet.

It will be hard to win without 4 quality bigs.
Foul trouble is almost as certain in a playoff series as a fake fight. It isn’t an indictment of the hawks players, I recall that D12 spent a fair amount of time in the last series in foul trouble. If (more likely when) Josh and Ivan face foul trouble against the Celtics, it will force LD to play guys like Marvin, Vlad or Twin/Damp more than the desired minutes (in Marvin’s case, slightly out-of-position). TMac may not only need to be healthy, but will need to be ready to play tough defense against Pierce, especially if Marvin is forced into minutes at PF.
IMO, the road to victory against the Celtics will come through an unexpectedly strong performance from one of those players at PF or C. Not Josh or Ivan, but Marvin, Vlad, Twin or Dampier. And that is likely true even if Zaza is able to play.
My hope for tonight’s game? Health… home court with another injury is utterly useless.

Last preseason game of the year tonight. It has playoff implications. If the Hawks win they get homecourt. So…
How do the Hawks match up against the Mavs? What do they need to do tonight to win? What should be the starting line-up?

AJ,
Thats part of the reason I am surprised LD has not found a way to give Dampier some minutes, because if Zaza is injured, who knows what to expect from the center position?
And I would hate for Dampier to have to play meaningful minutes when he hasn’t seen the court in the last 6 games, and has only played 5 minutes TOTAL over the last 22 games. And to think, signing him is the reason we are in luxury tax. SMH

With Marvin exceeding your expectations, is that because your expectations were low based on his past history?
northcyde,
If Marvin’s draft status (#2 pick) and contract is ignored, he would not be criticized so much. However, just like JJ gets criticism for his performance based on his $20 mil + contract, Marvin will get criticized as well.
That being said, I would split it up his grade. Marvin the starter, I would give him a C-. Marvin the Bench player, I would give him a C+ (maybe a B- with a curve).

“Ivan guarded Blake better than Josh did yesterday.”
I’ve been talking on Hoopinion about Ivan’s defense against All-Star big men most of the season.
“Does anyone here really think that he would let anyone on our team punk him?”
Yes. Ivan Johnson. You have to remember KG is a bully. He’s scared of anybody who would fight back. If he was about to come to blows with Ivan he would probably wet himself. Put Ivan on KG and KG is a non factor. But watch what happens. The refs will call touch fouls on Ivan to get him out of the game because the league office knows all of this better than you and I. Or there will be a confrontation and Ivan will get suspended and KG won’t.
“Do you think Ivan can take something without wanting to get into a fight with KG?”
Yes. I’ve seen horrible calls go against Ivan and he maintains his composure. He’s got a baby to feed. He doesn’t want to risk this dream come true that he’s walked into and I think he can walk away from anything but a thrown punch. And I don’t think there’s anybody in the NBA with the balls to throw a punch at him. Sure as hell not KG, the aforementioned bully and coward.

Yes; Marv has exceded -My- expectations.
Also; I`m one of the few who stuck with Marv the longest.
I really never thought he was a bad draft pick w/o looking at his choice
through the prism of time.
Of course, looking back, everyone`s a genius.
But, at the time, only Dick Vitale is on the record.
However, in the last two years, I have lost all confidence in Marv.
Therefore, if he performs w/o a major diarrhea attack in his pants
I call it a good day for Marv & move on.
That`s how I arrived at his B- grade on playing above expectations.

“I’ve never defended Marvin as much as I have this year. And that’s because the guy gave us more consistent play than in past seasons. When the guy was on the court, he played his role on both offense and defense.
Marvin’s grade: 81 ( B- )”
“northcyde`s post r e; Marv,
perfectly worded and Grade is accurate.
I might even [would have] given Marv a B+
for exceeding expectations.
* (kinda like grading on the curve)”
These might possibly be the two funniest post of the year. Whatever you two guys smoke, you need to leave it alone. How could you possibly rate Marvin Williams this year as a B. If Marvin is a B then Joe, Josh, Teague, Pargo, Zaza have to all be A’s. No way possible you can rate Zaza and Marvin the same. The guy has played better off the bench, but he still misses wide open shots, still can’t finish, he is a ok defender, nothing special, and rarely steps up against quality opposition. Playing better off the bench is only relative to how horrible he played starting. He will be a non factor as he usually is in the playoffs, and has the ability to be a difference maker, but has never fullfilled that ability. He is the true definition of a bust. If he made what Pargo, Willie Green, and TMac make, then he has value, but a 8 mil a year, he’s a bust.

OB, I am fearful that LD is trying to match-up with the Celtics instead of considering forcing them to match-up against us. They are suddenly a fairly small team and have struggled to rebound most of the season. If Collins and Damp can serve as the “nose guards” and allow the LBs (Josh & Ivan) to get the rebound, that would be huge toward getting us a bigger advantage on the boards. And needless to say, with more rebounds comes the likelyhood of more fast breaks opportunities, and those old men don’t want to be out there running with us. My fear is that LD is too busy thinking of going small in the front court against KG and Bass and being content with some combination of Zaza, Josh, Ivan and Marvin in those roles instead of using his assets to exploit their weaknesses.

I think our Hawks as a whole overachieved.
Even though some may percieve Josh`s grade B+ as low;
comparitive to the League it`s probably a little high.
Even though our team has outperformed expectations;
we must realize; we have a ‘`B`’ team.
Our Hawks are simply good but not capable of being great.
LD has Coached beyond his capabilities.
By that, I mean – I do not think LD is all that.
-BUT-
We must give the man credit when credit is due.
Whether or not I or we like him is irrelevant.
The man has done a -good- job -this- season.
Quit whimpering about Teague last year or
whatever anyone`s gripe may be;
currently he`s our Coach and he has worked this
roster masterfully.
Is LD the best going forward ? – probably not !
But neither is Josh or Joe for varying reasons.
Even this ownership group could get bailed out …
- IF -
Sund retires and the right GM comes on Board.

My post may have been funny and I`m always inclined
to bring a little joy into the world.
Two items:
(1) – I agreed with nc`s overall point
(2) – My follow up post went into detail to explain;
that I did not compare Marv to starters, nor did I compare him to
Josh or Joe, nor did I put any expectations upon him saying as much.
Grading him against my expectations which were nil.

OK, so we are grading…
My brief commentaries:
THERE IS NO F&%$#$& WAY that Josh is not graded at the A level.
I accept A- but nothing less than that and this is considering the whole league, not just the Hawks, not in comparison with expectations.
My personal grade would be “A” because he basically lead us to our current record with his efforts on both ends of the floor. He was not alone since JJ had a pretty good year, but he was material and we have to bear in mind that only after mid-season he has been given the reigns.
Also, within the same criteria, there is no %$&%$#$ WAY that Marvin should get more than a C grade.
C is positive and that is what Marvin gave us: a decent, positive contribution throughout the year.
My personal grade would be “C-”
Teague, is a clear cut B grade, a B- in my opinion, showing tremendous promise. He is inconsistent on his effort/focus but I believe that LD has great responsibility there.
JJ had a very nice year. Disappointing at times against playoff bound teams but I attribute that to LD more than to himself.
My grade for JJ is “A-” due to that subpar performance against playoff teams, but people forget that Pierce, for instance, has not been averaging anything out of the ordinary against us and just as an example, Granger went 2-12 against PHILA and Iggy and generally had less PPG and worse FG% against most playoff teams.

Grandad, I believe Austin Rivers will be a bust or marginal player at best, and you know my feelings for Marshall (who I think will be way better than Rivers).
Isn’t it funny, we all have close to hatred feelings towards the ASG ability to run this franchise. And Arthur Blank is the favorite owner of the city. But ASG’s team has produced more playoff success than Blank’s. If you consider one postseason game in NFL to be equal to one postseason series in the NBA, than the ASG are winning 3-1 against Arthur Blank.
Granddad, I like your idea about offering a top notch coach all control of front office. But I would suggest if you’re going to do that, let it be Jerry Sloan you offer that franchise coup too. I would even let him name his salary and staff. While Rivers has done wonders with the big three, Sloan is still a better coach in my eyes. Give Sloan KG, Pierce, Allen, and Rondo, and he would bring you three rings in six years. Sloan’s problem was never coaching, his problem was he had no help in free agency recruiting because of the location of his team.

How Far?
How far can we really go? That will be up to Josh then, Joe. If Josh takes good shots, give the ball to Teague, fill the lanes and, play inside primarily, that will determine how far we go in the play offs.
Notwithstanding, what we have in our available big men.

From the AP: Here is an excerpt of the Boston – Milwaukee game Preview
“Rivers said that Rondo and Garnett are expected to be in the lineup Thursday.
Rondo recorded double-digit assists in 23 straight games before missing the last three contests. He had 15 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a 102-96 home win over Milwaukee on Feb. 29.
Garnett, who missed three of the last five games, has totaled 41 points and 20 rebounds in two against the Bucks this season.
Milwaukee (31-34), which will fall short of the playoffs for the second straight season, looks to avoid a fourth consecutive road defeat to the Celtics.
The Bucks hope to bounce back from a 90-85 home loss to Philadelphia on Wednesday. Brandon Jennings had 19 points and rookie Tobias Harris added 15 with 13 rebounds as the Bucks fell despite holding the 76ers to 35.6 percent shooting.
Injuries have plagued the Bucks again this season. They dressed nine players Wednesday and could again be without key players Monta Ellis (hand), Carlos Delfino (groin) and Ersan Ilyasova (knee) in the finale.
Jennings, who played with a sore eye suffered in Monday’s 92-86 win over Toronto, is averaging a career-high 19.2 points in his third season and 25.2 in the last five games.
“I just wanted to play because I just love the game,” Jennings said. “It doesn’t matter to me. I get up to play basketball. It’s my job. I have to still be a professional and finish the season.”
He’s been held to 9.0 points per game on 35.0 percent shooting in Milwaukee’s last four trips to Boston.”

Good news for the Hawks: Denver beats OKC. With that win, the Mavs would need a win and a Denver loss tomorrow to Minnesota to move up from 7 to 6. John Hollinger on Twitter speculates that the Mavs may rest their starters tomorrow, deciding that there’s no way Denver loses to Minnesota.

but cpy & pste wrks fine on everything `cept AJC.
Just wonderin` ?

Thanks for responding. It does look like others are having technical issues with the Hawks blogs. I use the “show all” occasionally when I’m searching for a specific blogger or comment. Normally, though, until the past few days, I have no problems with moving to the next page. The blog monster’s the one that really pizzes me off. I copy my comments before submittal and try again, but then I get the dreaded “Duplicate comment” announcement. Gr-r-r-r-r-r-r-r!!!!
Hopefully the AJC will try to address some of these issues, but I’m not holding my breath.
