“I’ve never defended Marvin as much as I have this year. And that’s because the guy gave us more consistent play than in past seasons. When the guy was on the court, he played his role on both offense and defense.
Marvin’s grade: 81 ( B- )”
“northcyde`s post r e; Marv,
perfectly worded and Grade is accurate.
I might even [would have] given Marv a B+
for exceeding expectations.
* (kinda like grading on the curve)”
These might possibly be the two funniest post of the year. Whatever you two guys smoke, you need to leave it alone. How could you possibly rate Marvin Williams this year as a B. If Marvin is a B then Joe, Josh, Teague, Pargo, Zaza have to all be A’s. No way possible you can rate Zaza and Marvin the same. The guy has played better off the bench, but he still misses wide open shots, still can’t finish, he is a ok defender, nothing special, and rarely steps up against quality opposition. Playing better off the bench is only relative to how horrible he played starting. He will be a non factor as he usually is in the playoffs, and has the ability to be a difference maker, but has never fullfilled that ability. He is the true definition of a bust. If he made what Pargo, Willie Green, and TMac make, then he has value, but a 8 mil a year, he’s a bust.

OB, I am fearful that LD is trying to match-up with the Celtics instead of considering forcing them to match-up against us. They are suddenly a fairly small team and have struggled to rebound most of the season. If Collins and Damp can serve as the “nose guards” and allow the LBs (Josh & Ivan) to get the rebound, that would be huge toward getting us a bigger advantage on the boards. And needless to say, with more rebounds comes the likelyhood of more fast breaks opportunities, and those old men don’t want to be out there running with us. My fear is that LD is too busy thinking of going small in the front court against KG and Bass and being content with some combination of Zaza, Josh, Ivan and Marvin in those roles instead of using his assets to exploit their weaknesses.

I think our Hawks as a whole overachieved.
Even though some may percieve Josh`s grade B+ as low;
comparitive to the League it`s probably a little high.
Even though our team has outperformed expectations;
we must realize; we have a ‘`B`’ team.
Our Hawks are simply good but not capable of being great.
LD has Coached beyond his capabilities.
By that, I mean – I do not think LD is all that.
-BUT-
We must give the man credit when credit is due.
Whether or not I or we like him is irrelevant.
The man has done a -good- job -this- season.
Quit whimpering about Teague last year or
whatever anyone`s gripe may be;
currently he`s our Coach and he has worked this
roster masterfully.
Is LD the best going forward ? – probably not !
But neither is Josh or Joe for varying reasons.
Even this ownership group could get bailed out …
- IF -
Sund retires and the right GM comes on Board.

My post may have been funny and I`m always inclined
to bring a little joy into the world.
Two items:
(1) – I agreed with nc`s overall point
(2) – My follow up post went into detail to explain;
that I did not compare Marv to starters, nor did I compare him to
Josh or Joe, nor did I put any expectations upon him saying as much.
Grading him against my expectations which were nil.

OK, so we are grading…
My brief commentaries:
THERE IS NO F&%$#$& WAY that Josh is not graded at the A level.
I accept A- but nothing less than that and this is considering the whole league, not just the Hawks, not in comparison with expectations.
My personal grade would be “A” because he basically lead us to our current record with his efforts on both ends of the floor. He was not alone since JJ had a pretty good year, but he was material and we have to bear in mind that only after mid-season he has been given the reigns.
Also, within the same criteria, there is no %$&%$#$ WAY that Marvin should get more than a C grade.
C is positive and that is what Marvin gave us: a decent, positive contribution throughout the year.
My personal grade would be “C-”
Teague, is a clear cut B grade, a B- in my opinion, showing tremendous promise. He is inconsistent on his effort/focus but I believe that LD has great responsibility there.
JJ had a very nice year. Disappointing at times against playoff bound teams but I attribute that to LD more than to himself.
My grade for JJ is “A-” due to that subpar performance against playoff teams, but people forget that Pierce, for instance, has not been averaging anything out of the ordinary against us and just as an example, Granger went 2-12 against PHILA and Iggy and generally had less PPG and worse FG% against most playoff teams.

Grandad, I believe Austin Rivers will be a bust or marginal player at best, and you know my feelings for Marshall (who I think will be way better than Rivers).
Isn’t it funny, we all have close to hatred feelings towards the ASG ability to run this franchise. And Arthur Blank is the favorite owner of the city. But ASG’s team has produced more playoff success than Blank’s. If you consider one postseason game in NFL to be equal to one postseason series in the NBA, than the ASG are winning 3-1 against Arthur Blank.
Granddad, I like your idea about offering a top notch coach all control of front office. But I would suggest if you’re going to do that, let it be Jerry Sloan you offer that franchise coup too. I would even let him name his salary and staff. While Rivers has done wonders with the big three, Sloan is still a better coach in my eyes. Give Sloan KG, Pierce, Allen, and Rondo, and he would bring you three rings in six years. Sloan’s problem was never coaching, his problem was he had no help in free agency recruiting because of the location of his team.

How Far?
How far can we really go? That will be up to Josh then, Joe. If Josh takes good shots, give the ball to Teague, fill the lanes and, play inside primarily, that will determine how far we go in the play offs.
Notwithstanding, what we have in our available big men.

Tina Pachulia is a dancer from his native The Republic of Georgia. The have a son named after Zaza’s late father who passed at 41 years of age from a heart attack. Zaza’s dad was a Judo Master. Great blood lines, his son Davit was born in October of 2009, i believe.

From the AP: Here is an excerpt of the Boston – Milwaukee game Preview
“Rivers said that Rondo and Garnett are expected to be in the lineup Thursday.
Rondo recorded double-digit assists in 23 straight games before missing the last three contests. He had 15 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a 102-96 home win over Milwaukee on Feb. 29.
Garnett, who missed three of the last five games, has totaled 41 points and 20 rebounds in two against the Bucks this season.
Milwaukee (31-34), which will fall short of the playoffs for the second straight season, looks to avoid a fourth consecutive road defeat to the Celtics.
The Bucks hope to bounce back from a 90-85 home loss to Philadelphia on Wednesday. Brandon Jennings had 19 points and rookie Tobias Harris added 15 with 13 rebounds as the Bucks fell despite holding the 76ers to 35.6 percent shooting.
Injuries have plagued the Bucks again this season. They dressed nine players Wednesday and could again be without key players Monta Ellis (hand), Carlos Delfino (groin) and Ersan Ilyasova (knee) in the finale.
Jennings, who played with a sore eye suffered in Monday’s 92-86 win over Toronto, is averaging a career-high 19.2 points in his third season and 25.2 in the last five games.
“I just wanted to play because I just love the game,” Jennings said. “It doesn’t matter to me. I get up to play basketball. It’s my job. I have to still be a professional and finish the season.”
He’s been held to 9.0 points per game on 35.0 percent shooting in Milwaukee’s last four trips to Boston.”

Good news for the Hawks: Denver beats OKC. With that win, the Mavs would need a win and a Denver loss tomorrow to Minnesota to move up from 7 to 6. John Hollinger on Twitter speculates that the Mavs may rest their starters tomorrow, deciding that there’s no way Denver loses to Minnesota.

that I embarrass myself attempting to help.
Najeh reccommended many moons ago
to hit *show all, that way you don`t have to fool with the page.
* Also has anyone had any trouble with;
copy & paste ?
To counter the blog monster;
I copy and paste everything, or at least, used to.
I figured it was my computer or mouse / battery / etc
but cpy & pste wrks fine on everything `cept AJC.
Just wonderin` ?

Thanks for responding. It does look like others are having technical issues with the Hawks blogs. I use the “show all” occasionally when I’m searching for a specific blogger or comment. Normally, though, until the past few days, I have no problems with moving to the next page. The blog monster’s the one that really pizzes me off. I copy my comments before submittal and try again, but then I get the dreaded “Duplicate comment” announcement. Gr-r-r-r-r-r-r-r!!!!
Hopefully the AJC will try to address some of these issues, but I’m not holding my breath.
