Knicks at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread
12:59 pm April 22, 2012, by Michael Cunningham
- Larry Drew initially said he would start Jason Collins at center but left open the possibility of changing the lineup if Tyson Chandler doesn’t play. It turns out Chandler will sit, Landry Fields starts and Amar’e Stoudemire is at center. Drew will counter with Josh Smith at center and Marvin Williams at power forward.
- Zaza Pachulia remains out and Drew said he’s still not sure if he will be available for the start of the playoffs: “I’m hoping so. He’s certainly doing better than, from my understanding, what they had anticipated. There is some progress with the injury and where he is with it.”
- Al Horford put his chances of being ready for the first round at 70 percent. Drew: “We are keeping our fingers crossed but we are not totally counting on him. We don’t want to have wishful thinking. When they told us about the surgery that the probability would be very slim so at that point made our mind up we would not get him back.”
- Drew said he anticipates Horford would play “not very many” minutes if he returns: “We would have to work him in gradually. I wouldn’t want to throw him right into the fire. I know his conditioning is not very good because he’s been off for so long. It would be a gradual process to get him back adjusted. It will really be how he feels. When you lay off for that long it’s tough to get your legs under you.”

Was the game against the Clippers when Al got fouled last year or two years ago? I was there but it seems like it was a long time ago, longer than just a year.

A comfortable 1 point loss at home. Wow….
I guess people here still enjoy moral victories. Let a hobbled Amare score 20+ smh. Just keep Melo on perimeter

Atlanta Hawks: 15-23 from the FT line and 15-23 from the 3pt. arc [65.2%]…WTF!!!!!!!

There’s your loss right there. JJ was 0 – 3 FT . . Josh was basically a non factor in the 4th quarter.
An “acceptable” loss . . if there is even such a thing.

Don’t be a hater, man. Marvin only dribbled trying to get it to JJ. He did the right thing, but didn’t get the foul call when Melo clearly fouled him on the arm on the way up. It was a rigged game.

Marvin is so clueless. There is no way in hell that Marvin thought he had enough time to get all the way to the rim. Are you serious? This team has no identity. The guards have more heart than the bigs. The only players that were willing to stand up and talk back to NY were Teague and Pargo. This team is a joke.

This one reminds me of that Denver road game with Zaza missing a buzzer-beating lay up. That hurt a million way more than this one. Phew.
Anyway, If JJ made a technical in the late 4th… Phew..

Come on yall we gotta stop blaming josh for this loss….that was just poor defense against melo in crunch time…..the play at the end would have been perfect if he had to go to the line or made the dunk…things are designed to work it just has to be executed properly…not sure what else marvin could have done in that situation…but ive been a josh basher myself…but we sit here and watch these games you take the good with the bad with josh but he did not singlehandidly lose this game

It was a horrible, officiated game. If they didn’t call an offensive foul on Teague, it would of been a win. If they would have called the foul on Marvin, it would have been a win. Refs were clearly on the Knicks side.

I didn’t think Josh was that bad on D, but he never got his offensive game going and lost the rebounding battle 12-5 to one of the weaker rebounding big men in the league (Stoudemire). That is inexcusable. He deserves to take some heat for this game.

joe missed free throws..who saw that coming…Why the heck are ppl on Marvin now?? He played his behind off on both ends…gosh if he only brought that effort every night…Teague should have kept driving the lane was open for him…im not a moral victory person but they did show grit and didnt back down when melo was trying to embarass them. Melo is an embarassment on Defense and Drew should have exposed that more often. Yea this was a tough loss but its not game 7 of the finals.

That last play when Horford got fouled by Blake Griffin going to the basket came off [of] a pick-and-roll involving Jamal Crawford. Crawford scored 34 points that game.

More free throw attempts does not equate biased officiating always. There was key points in the game that bad calls were clearly made. Jeff Teague’s ‘offensive foul’ didn’t create FTs, and also took away a three pint play.
