Knicks at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread
- Larry Drew initially said he would start Jason Collins at center but left open the possibility of changing the lineup if Tyson Chandler doesn’t play. It turns out Chandler will sit, Landry Fields starts and Amar’e Stoudemire is at center. Drew will counter with Josh Smith at center and Marvin Williams at power forward.
- Zaza Pachulia remains out and Drew said he’s still not sure if he will be available for the start of the playoffs: “I’m hoping so. He’s certainly doing better than, from my understanding, what they had anticipated. There is some progress with the injury and where he is with it.”
- Al Horford put his chances of being ready for the first round at 70 percent. Drew: “We are keeping our fingers crossed but we are not totally counting on him. We don’t want to have wishful thinking. When they told us about the surgery that the probability would be very slim so at that point made our mind up we would not get him back.”
- Drew said he anticipates Horford would play “not very many” minutes if he returns: “We would have to work him in gradually. I wouldn’t want to throw him right into the fire. I know his conditioning is not very good because he’s been off for so long. It would be a gradual process to get him back adjusted. It will really be how he feels. When you lay off for that long it’s tough to get your legs under you.”

The Al Horford play against the Clippers from a couple of years ago. Marvin didn’t get it out of his hands in time anyway. He’s not going to get the call in that situation.

dont mind that play at all.. Marvin needs to bring that nightly.. of course he not going to be in a groove like that, but the assertive play is a plus. be a factor on the court, thats all im saying

I have to say I blame Josh for this loss, even though Marvin tried to play hero at end. Marvin had a great game, wish he could play this good more often. Josh just was not there.

There were more than a few predictions on here over the past couple of days that the Hawks would win this one easily. They’ve played well lately, but we cannot forget that they ARE the Hawks. They ARE an ATL pro team. They were ON national TV.
A shame Marvy couldn’t have dunked the game winner, as solid a game as he had today.
Need very badly to close out the season on a winning note in preparation for the playoffs.

Bigdave . . I agree. Would’ve been nice to see him make that play, but I’m not going to kill the Hawks for this loss today. Defense was horrible on both sides, but people were making big time shots all day.

Thank God, This doesn’t hurt that bad.
This hurts but I think this is the most comfortable 1-point loss in this season.
We’re a five seed and we’ll be facing Boston and we still can clinch the homecourt if we beat next/last two.
