Knicks at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread

  • Larry Drew initially said he would start Jason Collins at center but left open the possibility of changing the lineup if Tyson Chandler doesn’t play. It turns out Chandler will sit, Landry Fields starts and Amar’e Stoudemire is at center. Drew will counter with Josh Smith at center and Marvin Williams at power forward.
  • Zaza Pachulia remains out and Drew said he’s still not sure if he will be available for the start of the playoffs: “I’m hoping so. He’s certainly doing better than, from my understanding, what they had anticipated. There is some progress with the injury and where he is with it.”
  • Al Horford put his chances of being ready for the first round at 70 percent. Drew: “We are keeping our fingers crossed but we are not totally counting on him. We don’t want to have wishful thinking. When they told us about the surgery that the probability would be very slim so at that point made our mind up we would not get him back.”
  • Drew said he anticipates Horford would play “not very many” minutes if he returns: “We would have to work him in gradually. I wouldn’t want to throw him right into the fire. I know his conditioning is not very good because he’s been off for so long. It would be a gradual process to get him back adjusted. It will really be how he feels. When you lay off for that long it’s tough to get your legs under you.”

wish we could say this about starvin marvin and have him embrace the sixth man role as harden does:

Dumb move putting Josh at Center. Should have let Collins or Diamper start if he wanted Ivan coming off the bench. Amare is a shell of himself, why worry about him? Keep Collins at center and let the Knicks continue to have chemistry issues trying to mesh Amare and Melo.

Tyson Chandler resting.

Hawks need to win 2 of the next 3 games to secure home court.

well, it will be interesting to see josh at center against amar’e. maybe that is why chandler sits to not only rest but force that match up? knicks gonna go small. also can hope bibby is real slow and we know how to attack him when he is in the game.

Doc,

It doesn’t matter what role you put Marvin in, he’s too uncoordinated and clumsy of a player to be an effective score at this level. Hawks fans may as well accept the fact that this guy is very limited.

I dont know what it is, but the announcers the last two games on ESPN including Wilbon, Barry , Magic, and Brussard do not mention Atlanta at all. The game against the Celtics, they didnt even talk about the game, they talked about Knicks-Cavaliers. Today, they are only talking about the knicks, how lovely lol. and we get hawk basher Douris Bourke

If the Hawks get homecourt against the Celtics I expect the Hawks to win the series. There shouldnt be any excuses even without Horford. I expect Zaza to play. It would validate the season getting the Hawks to the second round with all the injuries the Hawks have had.

“There SHOULDN’T be . . . .” – Very true, but we’ll hear them anyway.

“It would validate the season getting the Hawks to the second round with all the injuries the Hawks have had.” – If that’s all it takes to validate the season, then we must be the ATL Hawks.

The Atlanta Hawks need to change its name to the Atlanta [Rodney] Dangerfields because this franchise gets no respect from the national media or its own city, citizens and fans.

DawgNole,

Grandad just tries to say sophisticated stuff while attacking everyone’s opinions on here. I’ve gotten used to it and usually just ignore him

Yeah, GM, I’m about through defending myself. What these old fa*ts and too many others continue to dance around is the only issue that really matters: winning championships–something ATL pro teams obviously know very little about.

You and only a few others care enough about winning it all to take the teams and their delusional blog supporters to task. Guess we’re in the minority, but hey, someone’s got to take a stand against satisfaction with a half-century of mediocrity. Glad y’all are on board.

The Thunder think they’re going to be able to re-sign James Harden. LOL. A Co-worker and I were having a convo about a week ago about who New Jersey will go after, since they seem to be out of the Dwight Howard sweepstakes ( for now ).

I said that they’ll go right after James Harden. After these playoffs, Harden’s stock will be sky high, and it will be very hard for OKC to hold onto him after the 2012 – 13 season is over. He’s going to get a MAX contract.
