Raptors at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread
5:32 pm April 15, 2012, by Michael Cunningham
- Jason Collins will replace Zaza Pachulia (foot) in the starting lineup. Tracy McGrady (rest) will not play. For Toronto, Amir Johnson (ill) is questionable and Andrea Bargnani (calf), Jerryd Bayless (oblique) and Jose Calderon (eye) are not with the team.
- Zaza won’t travel to Toronto for tomorrow’s game. He said he’s still not sure if he will be able to play Wednesday: “It’s better. I can walk without a limp. I’m getting treatment. It’s still a little bit swollen. It could be worse. I was really worried because most of the time I’ve seen a lot of other guys have torn knee, ligaments. Thank God it’s just strained foot. The bad thing is once you are getting close to the playoffs you want to be rolling. Hopefully it doesn’t take me too long.”
- Joe Johnson on setting out practice yesterday and getting treatment: “I was just trying to do the necessary things to keep my body feeling good and just staying on top of this knee. That’s about it. I feel good. This season has worn a lot of people down, not just physically but mentally as well. To get somewhat of a break, when you have a day or two between games, you try to cherish them and really take that time off. I think the best thing for the body at some point is rest more than anything. These little ‘nick-knacks’ and injuries we always get, you have to play through them unless it’s something serious. But you have to rest and let these wounds heal up a little bit.”
- Larry Drew has said he wants to get some bench players more minutes over the final few games. Which guys does he mean? “I’d like to give Willie [Green] more,” he said. “Certainly would like to give Vladimir [Radmanovic] more. I would like to get [Jannero] Pargo more, too, [after] that little stint he was out. He looks like he is starting to get back in a rhythm. I’d like to get Twin more. I would love to get [Erick Dampier] out there some more. And then probably Ivan [Johnson].”
- Mitch Lawrence of the Daily News reports the Hawks have offered Rick Sund a “deal to stay” but he told the team’s owners he will decide after the season if he wants to continue as GM. Hawks co-owner Michael Gearon Jr. has said any contract talks for Sund would happen after the season.

And 4 shots in 25 minutes for Jeff? I think he has come a long way, but sometimes he seems so passive.

“I can do bad all by myself” -Tyler Perry-
I saw this movie for the first time yesterday, it’s great, not a lot of Madea in this one, it focuses on a struggling family dynamic. A must see, of course is based in the ATL as most all Tyler’s movie are.

I would love to hear it from TMac that he didn’t want to play today. I would think that that’s probably a coach’s decision.

How do you get blown out at home with playoffs on the horizon ? Everybody but J.Smith should be fined $10,000 each for impersonating NBA players…

““I think some of us was ready, and some of us wasn’t,” Hawks guard Joe Johnson said. “It just kind of gave a bad effect on the whole team.”
Our $126 million leader subliminally finger-pointing on a night when he was arguably the biggest culprit.

I’ll wager the Hawks will win in Toronto. Tomorrow night will be the Raptors’ turn to take the night off. That’s the way the NBA works.

Is this something new? No. Everyone knows the Hawks have a roster full of passionless losers that are just out to collect the check. That’s all it’s about for these guys. No wonder Dwight Howard doesn’t want to come to this dump. Only an idiot would want to play for the Hawks.

The only person I ever heard step to the mike and take responsibility for a loss was Teague on the recent night when he amassed 7even turns to go with his 7even assists.
Other than him, I never heard any one step up to lead, certainly not Joe or Drew. The players point fingers because they take on the soft personality of their coach.
Josh has called Drew and other for finger pointing in the past. Go get Larry Brown as GM/Coach and you can cvhange these loser’s mentality quick!
But they will stand pat forever and do nada!

Obviously, the Hawks could have played better tonight, and if they would have, they may very well have won, but this loss is not just the result of poor or lacking effort. Make no mistake about it, this was not just a coincidence. The Hawks struggle against good defensive teams, and Toronto actually played very solid defense tonight. In some cases, the Hawks can afford to go through the motions against struggling teams and then just flip the switch and pull the game out, but that doesn’t work against the raptors, since they actually attempt to play consistent defense on a regular basis. They may not all have success with that, and their offense can really struggle, but they do give a lot of effort on defense, and it showed tonight. The Hawks underestimated them and thought they could get away with that, and the Raptors made the Hawks look like an inferior team.

What an effing joke! This team ain’t going anywhere. Johnson is making $20m and puts up 7 points. Say what you will about LbJ but he comes to play every night. JJ is just stealing. Arghhhhhhhhhhh.
