Raptors at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread
5:32 pm April 15, 2012, by Michael Cunningham
- Jason Collins will replace Zaza Pachulia (foot) in the starting lineup. Tracy McGrady (rest) will not play. For Toronto, Amir Johnson (ill) is questionable and Andrea Bargnani (calf), Jerryd Bayless (oblique) and Jose Calderon (eye) are not with the team.
- Zaza won’t travel to Toronto for tomorrow’s game. He said he’s still not sure if he will be able to play Wednesday: “It’s better. I can walk without a limp. I’m getting treatment. It’s still a little bit swollen. It could be worse. I was really worried because most of the time I’ve seen a lot of other guys have torn knee, ligaments. Thank God it’s just strained foot. The bad thing is once you are getting close to the playoffs you want to be rolling. Hopefully it doesn’t take me too long.”
- Joe Johnson on setting out practice yesterday and getting treatment: “I was just trying to do the necessary things to keep my body feeling good and just staying on top of this knee. That’s about it. I feel good. This season has worn a lot of people down, not just physically but mentally as well. To get somewhat of a break, when you have a day or two between games, you try to cherish them and really take that time off. I think the best thing for the body at some point is rest more than anything. These little ‘nick-knacks’ and injuries we always get, you have to play through them unless it’s something serious. But you have to rest and let these wounds heal up a little bit.”
- Larry Drew has said he wants to get some bench players more minutes over the final few games. Which guys does he mean? “I’d like to give Willie [Green] more,” he said. “Certainly would like to give Vladimir [Radmanovic] more. I would like to get [Jannero] Pargo more, too, [after] that little stint he was out. He looks like he is starting to get back in a rhythm. I’d like to get Twin more. I would love to get [Erick Dampier] out there some more. And then probably Ivan [Johnson].”
- Mitch Lawrence of the Daily News reports the Hawks have offered Rick Sund a “deal to stay” but he told the team’s owners he will decide after the season if he wants to continue as GM. Hawks co-owner Michael Gearon Jr. has said any contract talks for Sund would happen after the season.

Hawks shouldn’t get paid for this game. Every one of them.
And fans should get a rain check for another game. Imagine buying a ticket and paying for concessions for this garbage. What a scam.

12 points for the 4 starters other than Josh. Maybe we need different starters.

I’m actually a Joe fan but this is the kind of game that separates him from any other player that is a real All Star. Knowing we were down ZaZa he basically mails it in. He didn’t help on boards, played awful defense, lack of energy and worst of all no leadership from a veteran. Very disappointing.

I swear the “fans” in here who are really just apologists for individual players make me laugh.
They aren’t going anywhere because the collective IQ is mayonnaise and their best players have no heart.
Get mad all you want but you will see what I mean when they’re eliminated in a couple weeks..

In fact let’s take it a step further
Josh: 11/20 (55% FG), 4/7 FT, 26 pts, 8 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, 2 blk, 3 TO
The rest of the starters COMBINED: 4/19 (21% FG), 3/4 FT, 12 pts, 5 reb, 9 ast, 1 stl, 0 blk, 2 TO
The remaining 4 starters combined for a line that looks like what Brandon Jennings would put up on a bad day. And yet people want to blame Josh. Hmm.

Ok guys. The Hawks probably will get one back from the Raptors on tomorrow. Why? Because today is home Sunday and they ate dinner. Period. That’s what happens when you eat dinner early on Sunday, and especially before a 6pm game Big-Momma’s biscuits, mashed potatoes w/gray, fried chicken, collards and coleslaw and corn on the cobb, baked beans, etc. I just woke up from a nap myself after eating some of those same foods, minus the fried chicken (I like mine grilled), and the eating of Sunday dinner on Sunday gets your eyeballs rolling to the back of the noggin after you done nodded out. So guys, give the Hawks another shot-Monday night.

I agree with Najeh. Tonight is NOT the night to be nit picking at Josh. When your starting backcourt gets outscored 33 – 4 . . and Arn Anderson completely outplays JJ . . those are the people to blame for this lackluster effort.

“Dagger in the coffin.” LOL
I prefer the Hawks finish 5th for the higher draft pick. Get Fab Melo as a project big. That’s the only way we can afford a big man with foot speed and agility. Hire a big man coach and let van Exel roll on out. Stack can take over his spot on the second row.
Stack may even be a decent assistant coach to take over for Drew at the end of his next extension. Yawl know it’s coming right?
Status Quo is one thing you know!

I might be paranoid but why in the world would JT shoot only 4 shots in the game after playing welll lately.I would think some body is telling him he is not in there to score. This happens often after he has good games.

This is the NBA ,a game of streaks. I know the first unit wasn’t playing well &the secon unit wasn’t playing much better but in a must game why would the coach play the second unit the whole last quarter . This seems like throwing the towel in way to early, shows a complete lack of confidence for your first unit. LD has often done this this season.

Does JT just decide he don’t want to shoot shots this game,we all know he is capable of getting shots anywhere he wants to on the court, any time he wants to. There has to be a logical answer for this.some one has to ask him this questio. He will probably be afraid to tell the truth.

I normally give JJ a hard time for not showing up against good teams. But he did not show up tonight either. 2-12, including 1-6 from 3. Last 5 games, JJ is 7-28 (25%) from 3.
I wont blame Collins, because everybody (except LD) knows he is terrible. I would have started Dampier. But Kirk, Teague, and JJ. Just terrible tonight. Josh and Ivan did what they could, but could not overcome the terrible play of the starters, and a couple bench players.
Hopefully we will regroup and win tomorrow’s game.
