Knicks at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread

  • Vladimir Radmanovic (back) and Jannero Pargo (appendectomy) are out for the Hawks. Jeremy Lin (knee) is out for the Knicks.
  • Al Horford said he lifted weights today for the first time since his pectoral surgery but still expects to miss the balance of the regular season: “Realistically, for me, it would be the playoffs. Two weeks from now I might feel a lot better but, realistically, I’m going to say the playoffs. That’s when I want to come back. I don’t know if I will be there but I hope I will be.”
  • Larry Drew said he’s operating as if Horford won’t return so there won’t be a letdown. Horford understands that approach: “That’s good. I don’t want to keep the guys [wondering], ‘Oh, he’s going to come back?’ Right now I’m not feeling where I need to be so I don’t want to hold anybody back. I think if I’m back it would be a great addition. I’m not going to be full strength but at least I would be able to help the team.”
  • As for the weightlifting session, Horford said: “I felt OK, didn’t feel too great, but it was the first time. Now we can start getting after that. In the meanwhile I’m going to keep shooting and do all my basketball stuff and try to get back in gear.”
  • Would my blog people be cool with a playoff bench unit featuring Horford, Pargo, Willie Green, Marvin Williams and Ivan Johnson?
  • Drew says Pargo is close to returning: “I think he is. He was out there participating in all our shooting drills. Talking to him, he sounds like he is starting to feel better. Hopefully we will get him back as soon as possible.”
  • Drew on the atmosphere tonight: “We are anticipating it will be a New York crowd at home. We have the mentality that it’s a road game.”
  • Josh Smith: “It’s going to be a playoff atmosphere. I am sure there will be more Knicks fans than Hawks fans because there are so many New Yorkers that live here. It’s going to be exciting to come into this building and play against a hot New York team. You are definitely going to get some physical play because both teams need to win so much.”
  • Josh on matching up with Carmelo Anthony: “He has probably the best offensive package in this league. I definitely am going to have to concentrate on him knowing he’s going to get the ball a majority of the time. It’s not really going to be an individual matchup. A guy of that caliber, it has to be a team aspect in being able to guard a guy like that. We are going to have to come out and be physical with him, match his physicality. He lies to create the contact so I have to be able to absorb it and use my length on him to disrupt his rhythm.”
  • Drew on the Knicks: “One thing is we have to do a good job in transition. They get out and run and have a lot of good one-on-one players. They are featuring ‘Melo a lot more. We have to defend their three-point shooters. They have a lot of guys who can shoot it so we can’t let them get started.”
  • Mike Woodson: “They’ve got great offensive players. They’ve got guys who can score the basketball. We’ve got to do the things we’ve been doing defensively.”
  • Drew on facing Woodson: “It will be a little different but I’ve been in enough of these situations to handle it.”
  • Mike Bibby came by the Hawks’ locker room both before shooataround and during pregame.

Teague is as legit as Rondo; he just has to play consistantly as aggressive at all times. It could be his team. Baron’s old body couldn’t hang.

I have a feeling we will start seeing other teams double Josh more aggressively from here on out. 7 turnovers for him. He will have to learn how to adjust to that. He passes well out of normal double teams, but the Knicks were really hounding him in this game.

Good win. Boston may win tonight which means Sixers fall to 6th seed and Boston moves to 4th seed. Willie was a man possessed tonight.

I don’t care anything about the Knicks injuries….Hawks also without All Star F/C so if Knick fans want to cry about it we in a drought right now.

Atlanta Hawks are a better team than the New York Knicks. Record states the obvious, history backs it up. We will slap up the Knicks every time we play them.

The team really came through. Josh, Joe, Willie, Jeff and Marvin and less not omit Zaza. Although they did let the Knicks back into it, the guys withstood the charge and clamped down on the “D”. Took a lot of flack wearing my Josh Smith Jersey in New York but glad the guys won.

76ers troll was on here giving updates on their games.

Now, Slimjr is giving updates on the Knicks scores on a Hawks blog.

So, he isn’t being a troll, either? I guess I missed the memo…

Nice win. Lot of good performances and of course joe, josh, Willie stars. I really think ZaZa is playing great. He got so many loose balls and rebounds and does the dirty work. I have a feeling that he has a bug up his ass for Woody. Take that

Horfords the backup pf/center if he’s back in time for the Playoffs. Zaza plays MUCH better as a starter, and he does the stuff that Al doesnt want to do. BANG.. When he comes off the bench his min are too damn sporadic. Cant get into any type of rythym.
Pargo/Green,Marvin,Ivan,Horford is one helluva bench. Good win btw. And I saw where TMac got a dnp because he was sick. This TMac vs LD thing is almost laughable.

Incredible to think the Hawks have crept back near the 3 seed. That game tonight was a gut check and these guys look to be working together.
Excellent team effort tonight, and it would take a total collapse for LD not to be back next year.
Can’t knock the successful results and Marvin even had some high moments as well. The boos when he was shooting FTs was amazing.

dawgnole and others, the atlanta fan is a dying breed, especially in big games like tonight. the fan is almost extinct from where i was standing. there were 4 to 5 knick fans there to the 1 atlanta fan. 2 minutes left a stream of orange and blue was heading to the exit. yes, i was childish enough to ride them and wave them home. the atl fans there at the end were not enough to give these guys credit for a very well played and hard fought game.

jeff teague was almost flawless, marvin working, green playing his best impersonation of flip and jamal but under control and smart, jj dealing and josh pretty much doing his thang and only getting frustrated minimally. but yes, i am fed up with the atlanta sports fan as i dont see them there when they should be.

now about those “loose thumbs” and it relates to my first tirade. man, if my thumbs got loose in there i would have had my phone easily knocked from my hands. those fans were streaming everywhere and not paying attention to me as big as i am. they were in throngs buying and supporting the basg at the concession stands moving in huge masses through the concourse which were thriving tonight as no other night i can remember this year. this is what it used to be like for big games only there were morw atl fans there. now, not so much.

go hawks! 0-45!
