I talked about the Hawks’ 98-77 loss to the Bulls at Philips Arena last night.

Hinrich, who still spends offseasons in the north suburban home he kept, will be an unrestricted free agent this summer for the first time in his nine-year career. So what about a Bulls return?
“I wouldn’t be opposed to it,” Hinrich said. “It’s still a ways away, and a lot can happen. We’ll see. I have no preconceived thoughts on what will happen.”
I have a feeling Sund will try to re-sign him at a lower price than his current salary, though.

“As I have been saying for loooooooooooong, our major deficit could not be solved with a trade deadline more.
It can be solved at ANY MOMENT by firing LD and hiring a QUALITY HEAD-COACH.”
The problem is you can count the number of elite NBA head coaches on your fingers. In fact, Homer Simpson can probably count the number of elite NBA head coaches on his fingers.
How many Adelmans are out there who are not already coaching a team? How many Sloans who are sitting at home would be willing to come to a team that has a less than championship caliber roster?
The sad truth is that LD is no better or worse than about 80% of the league’s coaches. He isn’t bad, he’s just average. And to be quite honest, within the next five years, the Hawks have a better chance of blowing up this roster and rebuilding into a contender by drafting superstars than they do of hiring one of the few elite NBA coaches in existence.

Hawks have to save on salary if they want to resign Josh and Zaza, because both players have earned a pay raise (imo), and they only have one more year on their deal.
As for beating the Bulls in a 7 game series, lets not forget they still have Rip Hamilton and D-Rose, so I dont think the Hawks have a chance (especially with LD on the sidelines).
I think LD is a better coach than Woody, but that is not saying much.
March 29th, 201210:09 am
“Larry Drew has done an awful job managing minutes. I think that is a big part of the problem. Joe, Josh, and even Zaza have just been logging too much time. No reason for guys playing 50 + minutes, like they did on Sunday night. Main reason for the consecutive weak efforts.”
LD hasn’t had much of a choice in a lot of these games, because too many people have been injured and games have gone into overtime. I am willing to give him some benefit of the doubt since he wasn’t riding them too hard earlier in the season when the team was healthier.
March 29th, 201210:15 am
Taj Gibson was the 26th pick in the 1st round in 2009. Omer Asik was the 6th pick in the 2nd round in 2008.
Damion James (traded for Jordan Crawford) was the 24th pick in the 1st round by the Hawks in 2010. The Hawks sold the 1st pick in the 2nd round for cash that same year.
If there is any talent advantage the Bulls have at all over the Hawks, other than Rose, it is in having Gibson and Asik off the bench while the Hawks have Ivan and Collins/Dampier. The Bulls have Gibson and Asik not because they are a big market team that spends more money, but because they use their draft picks to improve the roster rather than pay the electric bill.

From hoopinion about last night’s game;
Joe Johnson: Again, with Chicago’s superstar out of action, you would expect Atlanta’s franchise player to feast in his absence. Joe went on a diet with 12 points on 5-for-11 shooting with 6 assists. Said after the game that some of his teammates still do not know their roles. Note to Joe Johnson: Your role is to score..
Josh Smith: Josh has been one of the hottest players in the NBA since the All-Star break. His increased production can be attributed to an increase in scoring chances close to the basket. However, this by no means indicates that Josh has abandoned his efforts to shoot himself out of a career-long slump from 16-feet-and-out. Shooting 3-for-10 on long jumpers is actually an ok night for Josh.
Marvin Williams: Bringing Marvin off the bench really allows for an adjustment in expectations. For a bench player, 10 points and 5 rebounds are valuable contributions.
Ivan Johnson: After scoring 17 points on perfect 7-for-7 shooting in just 23 minutes in Tuesday’s loss to Milwaukee, Larry Drew rewarded Ivan with 11 minutes against the Bulls. Ivan Johnson has outplayed All-Star centers this year. Is the Hawks organization trying to hide him from potential bidders this summer?.
The head coach
Drew probably wishes the opposition was coached by Tyrone Corbin every time the Hawks play..
JJ takes 11 shots, Josh takes 21. JJ has to find a way to get his shots off (and this is where LD’s inabilities come into play). Good teams are able to take JJ out of his game with 1 defender, and both JJ and LD are powerless to stop it. And although I’m ok with Josh getting 20+ shots, I dont want 10 of them to be jumpers.
I know the playoff schedule wont be so hectic, so LD can afford to shorten his rotation then, but the Hawks better hope they get Orlando or Indiana in the playoffs.
Co-sign your 10:15 post… And to add, the Hawks sold their 2nd round pick for this upcoming draft AT THE TRADE DEADLINE period. Who does that? That’s a clear sign of, we need money…

March 29th, 2012
The Hawks WILL resign Larry Drew because he is the cheapest option available. The hawks WILL resign Sund because he is the cheapest option available. Besides, does it take a great GM to trade away all picks and sign minimum salary players?
That pretty well captures it–and is a major reason the team will continue its strong support of the city’s role as a mediocre player in the pro sports arena.
March 29th, 201210:39 am
With the exception of their performance last night, I wouldn’t be so quick to suggest Magic as a team the Hawks would like to play in the 1st round. They have been playing some good ball after the All Star break. I prefer they play a team with less playoff experience in the 1st round like Indy, Philly or even the Knicks regardless of regular
March 29th, 201210:55 am
Well, you guys have said it well. Would I like an upgrade at the head coach position? Absolutely. Do I think Drew’s offensive scheme is as ineffective as Woody’s iso madness? Absolutely. Do I think a coaching change would turn us into a legit championship contender? No. This roster is, flat out, a second round of the playoffs exit waiting to happen. As long as we’re stuck with ASG who’ll stick with Sund, we’ll continue to sign aging veterans to the minimum, trade draft picks for cash, & fool ourselves into thinking our “core” is better than average (at best).
March 29th, 201210:56 am
Speaking of Asik. Jeff Withey is his clone at Kansas. Dude had 10 blocks and only 2 fouls against nc state. Outplayed tyler zeller imo. He is shooting 80% from the line which is huge.
Mekvin, the Hawks sold off one of their second round picks for the upcoming draft. I think they had two and still have one remaining. And MC suggested they sold the pick to offset the potential luxury tax cost from adding Dampier for the remainder of the season.
March 29th, 201210:58 am
Potential luxury tax cost as a result of adding Dampier? A guy they prefer using Collins ahead of??? WOW!
March 29th, 201211:01 am
Coach LD have run Josh and Joe in the ground, they are tired with so many min. being played, when playoffs starte with to top players being tired, Hawks will get swept in 4 four games because of no defense, LD should no by now players can’t play solid defense if they are tired.
BIG DOG IN THE HOUSE

‘poop keeps talking about the Hawks as the best pro sports team in Atlanta. I think the last syllable in his name is what comprises the neruo matter inside his cerebtal cortex.
poop, your hidden agenda of promoting Vick and any team with the least amount of white players isn’t really so hidden from those with more than a double-digit IQ.
Shame on you!
March 29th, 201211:11 am
What you said is true. However, the point I have made over the past few weeks is b/c of bad asset management. The Hawks have to pay the luxury tax for a roster that has 8 guys making the vet min and probably is not capable of making ECF. They are paying the luxury tax b/c of a series of bad moves like keeping Sloan on the roster at the beginning of the season and signing Diamper for the remaining of the season. Not to mention overpaying some players and acquiring other high salary players by trading away players with modest contracts and draft picks. They have no cap or roster flexibility b/c they made terrible choices in the past that will require them to pay the luxury tax at the end of the season.

Are home games more important than away games?
A game is a game, they count the same in the win column…
But home games garner home support…and revenue…
Thus, playing well at home is very important…
The Hawks normally are a good home team…
But this season, especially against good teams, they suck…
If not routed, they just dont get it done at the Phipp…
Easy to go back to JJ’s infamous statement in re. home fans…
But something is awry, not just last night, but there’s a pattern…
This team has to take pride in performing before its fans…
It has to establish pride in defending the Phipp…its got to be personal..
I dont see that on this team…
Many criticize Josh for his emotional side, but you need that…
I dont see enough of that from this group, too white collar, too indifferent…
I dont want J.R. Riders but this team lacks passionate leadership…
How can D-league John Lucas III outplay our starter????
Rod from College Park
March 29th, 201211:29 am
Indiana or Orlando is our only hope in the playoffs. If Pargo and Green don’t start scoring more off the bench, we won’t beat either of those teams in a playoff series either. Jamal was the difference in us beating Orlando in the series last year, do we have enough scoring punch on our bench this year to compete in the playoffs is the question? Joe Johnson is easy to shut down. Shut him down, and let Josh shoot jumpers all day, and you can beat the Hawks. Plus LD will get outcoached by almost every coach in a series except Woodson and Van Gundy. Look for a first round exit.
March 29th, 201211:33 am
JJ needs to stop taking shots in the media. He obviously does not know his role. Against elite teams, he has to score over 20 points for us to even have a chance. Jamal took a lot of pressure off of joe last year, but he is not here now, so JJ needs to understand that. Be the superstar and All star that you are paid to be.
You Should Stop Posting

How can D-league John Lucas III outplay our starter????
Player A had 10 points and 5 dimes. Player B had 13 points and 8 dimes.. I will let you guess what player had what numbers. I don’t know what your definition of outplaying is but im sure its a lot different than the one I know.I guess you will ignore the bulls better bench play or how Deng pretty much owned the 120 million dollar man. Its clear from your comments you haven’t seen Lucas play at all this year. You should check out his numbers in the games he started. Not surprising coming from a guy who suggested we bring in a washed up Iverson or a bum like Randolph Morris.
March 29th, 201212:00 pm
LD is the problem making no adjustment when there is no back up point guard on the bench.
Coach LD, Pargo is hurt hmmmmmmmmmm.
BIG IN THE HOUSE
March 29th, 201212:04 pm
Well Najeh, looks like they paid part of the electric bill with the last pick sold. The scoreboard is still blacked out. But hey, it’s not all bad – you can always reach around the beer guy and grab a RED steak.
That link for Larry was sick! I hope the internet CIA dint tag my IP Address for peeking over there. Man there were over 1.5M posts on one of those rabid forums. Scary stuff, a lot of hate in this world.
The Hawks … FTPB – Drew’s and Joseph’s comments were a huge eye opener for me. NO CLUE DREW is in over his head.
March 29th, 201212:06 pm
Teague, Joe, Josh, Ivan, Zaza
Hinrich, Green, Tmac, Marvin, Dampier
Collins is non existing with one arm, 1 REBOUND SINCE RETURN.
10man rotation is must to keep players fresh during the rest of the season, not only that defense will be played better with 10 MAN ROTATION.
Hinrich must come of the bench with no backup point guard on the bench.
March 29th, 201212:08 pm
I hope LD watch the Bulls coach last night with 11man rotation, JUST DAM.
March 29th, 201212:39 pm
Najeh, I understand that the Hawks are dealing with injuries. I know that factors in to the minutes Joe, Josh, and Zaza are logging. But, it’s like Coach Drew is not even trying to monitor the time. Against Utah, why couldn’t Dampier at least eat up some minutes? Why not more T-Mac to spell Joe? Last night, why put Joe and Josh back in when the game is out of reach?
It’s a tough situation, no doubt. There are opportunities to get guys rest that Coach Drew just does not take advantage of.
I’m holding off any judgement until after the 3 day rest coming up. The schedule softens up a bit. Hawks have to take advantage. They could still end up with a miserable playoff seed, if they’re not careful.
March 29th, 201212:44 pm
Was it Gearon Jr who said he bought the team to make the playoffs and entertain?
We’re not entertained getting our azz kicked around by other playoff teams!
Larry Drew= square peg/ round hole
FIRE Gearon Jr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Friday night looms big..Woody will try and put his foot on Larry’s neck?
FIRE Gearon Jr!
March 29th, 201212:47 pm
Gearon Jr, you should have grabbed Kaman when he became available..
Oh thats right your not in it to win it! I got it!
March 29th, 201212:54 pm
Melvin, I agree. And I think it goes back to the ASG and their insistence on maintaining the status quo. And my assumption for that is the consistent revenue they receive from the status quo. They opted to keep the core intact and they (likely) have opted not to pursue any redefining trades in the summer or during the season. They are content that they are providing the city with an entertaining NBA product.
March 29th, 20121:06 pm
Woody’s back in town tomorrow night and it is a trap!!
March 29th, 20121:08 pm
Title should read:
The Bulls Dismantle The Hawks
This dude is running this team into the ground. Why is Jason collins allowed to touch the floor? The look from T-Mac’s face on the bench says it all. Larry Drew has no clue.
March 29th, 20121:10 pm
Nice two see family tree still attache.
WOODSON VS. LARRY
March 29th, 20121:15 pm
These next two losses will let even die hard Hawks fans know that this team will probably be dismantled in either the 1st round or 2nd depending on match ups…It was never Mr Gearon Jr’s intent to pursue a Championship in this town when he became an owner. Never was, so don’t expect his teams to play like an elite squad..They are not configured as such..Then add underachieving GM such as RIck Sund who wouldn’t know how to configure a championship caliber team if it was dropped in the lap. See his 32 year career in the NBA. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Then you hire a coach who is not gifted to perform this task and there ya go.. A playoff meltdown will follow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It wont be a surprise.. Last nights game was a shot across the bow and the one to come Friday night maybe a direct hit?
FIRE GEARON Jr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
March 29th, 20121:45 pm
In this season, the Hawks would be better off with Jordan Crawford than his 5th cousin Jamal. If you want to add a streaky, sometimes inefficient scorer, I’ll take Jordan. Realistically I’d take Jason Terry. But don’t act like a dude shooting sub 40% FG is the scoring punch the Hawks need.
Like I said a few days ago, the Hawks aren’t judged by how they play vs Detroit and Utah, they’re judged by how they play against the teams that stand in our way from making a deep run in the playoffs ( East Finals or NBA Finals ).
Drew and Del Negro are the only coaches of playoff level teams that doesn’t have a set 8 or 9 man rotation. Instead of forcing teams to match up with the Hawks, Drew is overly concerned with matching up with his opponents.
DREW…..unless you’re playing a team in which most of the offense runs through a low post scoring center, Jason Collins should NEVER PLAY.
LOL @ the notion of the Hawks trying to hide Ivan. So I guess they’re not going to play Ivan in the playoffs then, because every Hawk playoff game will have a national audience in about 4 weeks.
They better put a Klingon cloaking device on Ivan if they want to hide him.
March 29th, 20122:00 pm
Had the Hawks simply not made the Kirk Hinrich trade last year, we’d have those 8 players going into next season. Jordan and Faried are two young talents that most good teams would covet due to their youth, playing ability, and most of all, their cheap contracts.
So we’d have a legit backup center, a tenacious rebounder, and a gunner that could create his own shot plus play spot minutes at PG.
March 29th, 20122:24 pm
March 29th, 20122:32 pm
You can’t have young players like Jordan and Faried on the roster if you keep trading and selling your draft picks. This organization prefer to bring vets on min salary contract so the league will pay part of their salary which helps the Hawks bottom line. Prior to this year, the Hawks would stay below the luxury tax line so they could get revenue sharing at the end of the season. B/c they will be tax payers this seasson, they decided to sell their pick to help offset the tax penalty.
March 29th, 20122:47 pm
The Hawks are tired. They have the best 4th quarter defense in the league, but when you play 5 games in 6 nights your energy is not gonna be there. Hopefully Horford is healthy for the last couple games of the year going into the playoffs because I think he will be a sparkplug. T-Mac better play with a sense of urgency in the playoffs also. His talent, regardless of age, is rare. GO HAWKS
March 29th, 20122:55 pm
“Had the Hawks simply not made the Kirk Hinrich trade last year, we’d have those 8 players going into next season. Jordan and Faried are two young talents that most good teams would covet due to their youth, playing ability, and most of all, their cheap contracts.”
And they’d be spending less with that roster.
March 29th, 20123:11 pm
It seems like the Hawks don’t understand it is more cost effective to draft young talent like Faried, Jordan, Singleton and move out the apparent less cost effective players like Marvin et.al.
Looks like Sund doesn’t really have a plan, he is just blindly throwing money at it and, hoping something good happens.
March 29th, 20123:18 pm
no norhcyde, they would still have two undeveloped players in suits literally sitting behind green bibby? and collins. bibby’s contract wasnt up until this year.

basg slogan is “we rent vets”.
