Atlanta Hawks at Wizards: Game thread
- Zaza Pachulia (Achilles) is back in the lineup and will start. Vladimir Radmanovic (back) is available to play. Tracy McGrady is not with the team because he’s resting on the back-to-back.
- Rashard Lewis (knee) and Andray Blatche (conditioning) are out for the Wizards.
- The Wizards now have Nene after a three-team trade that cost them JaVale MCGee, Ronny Turiaf and Nick Young.
- Larry Drew on the difference with Nene: “Obviously he’s a guy I’m sure they will be throwing it inside a little bit more with him. We are fully aware of what he’s capable of as a big man in the post. He’s a guy who has strength, he has quickness down there. We are going to have to do a good job defending the low post. Whenever we’ve played this Washington team our primary concern has been the transition game and making sure we don’t give up a lot of easy fast-break points. But with Nene he gives them a solid big man they can post-up. We can’t allow easy catches. It’s important we try to get him off his sweet spots.”
- Drew on the injuries and the schedule: “I know they are tired, not only physically but mentally. It’s kind of the stretch run of the season. I think it’s pretty normal for mental fatigue to set in. We have to push through it. We can’t allow it to overcome us. We have to take it a game at a time and not look forward to what our schedule will be. Hopefully we can get healthy bodies back because when you are at this part of the season it’s important to have as many bodies as you can so you don’t pile on the minutes for certain guys.”

If nothing else, this makes up for some of those early season losses where the Hawks played well enough to win (like the 76-74 loss to Chicago). They had NO business winning this game. Put this sh-t in gift wrap and put it under the Christmas tree. Send the Wizards a thank you card. This was a gift.

ill take these wins. physical and mental fatigue has to be setting in. just last year Hawks were dropping games late in season heading into playoffs where they proved they can turn on the intensity when it mattered. these scrub teams arent just going to lay down.. especially given our questionable toughness.

And remember, for a couple or three weeks, we had the toughest schedule in the NBA – maybe a 16 game stretch or something, so we deserve some patsies.

You guys can’t judge the Hawks performance next week because of the way they played tonight.
These Hawks don’t fit any rational template. They play their best at the end of a back-to-back-to-back. They play poorly against the bad teams until they decide to pull it together. They play well against the elite competition this month. Only lost to Clippers by double digits. Lost to Miami by 3, Denver by 1 in OT, and to Boston by 3. Also lost to Detroit by 1.
What should we expect against the Jazz tomorrow at Philips Arena? Only God knows.

Hopefully our youth realize at some point the silliness of their ways with the murder of Trayvon. The the community needs to keep up the focus on the violence against our youth, especially young black males. We need to be just as angry and upset when there is another senseless murder here in ATL.

DUI, where are you? Aren’t you going to say or ask something like “I didn’t know “latin american” was a language”? Since Nene is from Brazil, I would assume that the word “nene” is [the] Portuguese [word/translation] for the [English] word/translation “baby.”
