Atlanta Hawks at Wizards: Game thread
- Zaza Pachulia (Achilles) is back in the lineup and will start. Vladimir Radmanovic (back) is available to play. Tracy McGrady is not with the team because he’s resting on the back-to-back.
- Rashard Lewis (knee) and Andray Blatche (conditioning) are out for the Wizards.
- The Wizards now have Nene after a three-team trade that cost them JaVale MCGee, Ronny Turiaf and Nick Young.
- Larry Drew on the difference with Nene: “Obviously he’s a guy I’m sure they will be throwing it inside a little bit more with him. We are fully aware of what he’s capable of as a big man in the post. He’s a guy who has strength, he has quickness down there. We are going to have to do a good job defending the low post. Whenever we’ve played this Washington team our primary concern has been the transition game and making sure we don’t give up a lot of easy fast-break points. But with Nene he gives them a solid big man they can post-up. We can’t allow easy catches. It’s important we try to get him off his sweet spots.”
- Drew on the injuries and the schedule: “I know they are tired, not only physically but mentally. It’s kind of the stretch run of the season. I think it’s pretty normal for mental fatigue to set in. We have to push through it. We can’t allow it to overcome us. We have to take it a game at a time and not look forward to what our schedule will be. Hopefully we can get healthy bodies back because when you are at this part of the season it’s important to have as many bodies as you can so you don’t pile on the minutes for certain guys.”

This Wizards team is no joke since that trade.
Nene isn’t the only player that looks better against the Hawks than he usually does, but with his skill set I don’t know how he hasn’t made an All Star team yet.

LD is worthless. Yet, he gets praise from his starters making him look good. I’m tired of his lousy subs. Collins? Where’s Ivan? They need to win tonight. They sure as he k ain’t winning tomorrow.

Pacers will play the Bucks in Milwaukee later this evening. If the Hawks win and the Pacers lose, I believe the Hawks will move up to the 5th seed in the Eastern Conference standings. Right now, the Hawks are blowing their chances.

Since getting rid of McGee, the Wizards have two double digit wins against bad teams and two narrow losses against playoff teams (Indiana, Memphis). The only bad game they have played is the 14 point loss at Philips last week, and they were leading in the 3rd quarter in that game before the bottom fell out.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see them in the playoffs next year if Nene is healthy.

Wizards shooting 51% and have 9 more field goal attempts than the Hawks. They are +6 on the offensive boards and have two fewer turnovers. Beating the Hawks in every facet of the game. Offense, defense, effort, execution, everything.

Hawks have actually done a better job on the boards and on D this quarter, but they have to establish Josh on the block if they want any hope of picking up the offense and going on a run.

Joe doesn’t know how to handle double teams he always still looks to score then trys to pass when he gets in trouble at the last sec Josh doesn’t do that he almost always find the open man when they double him
