Teagues three attempt was just brutal. Maybe it slipped out of his hand or something. I still say we’ve just hit a wall physically with the injuries and the schedule.
Hats off to Ray Allen. What a shooter!

it’s the little things Teague needs to improve on. Controlling the offense every moment he’s on the court and putting his teammates in good position to take shots. (regardless of the outcome) damn they should have won that game.

That was a playoff game last night and we were clearly short-handed due to injury. I’d love to know more about Josh’s exasperation with the last possession (from MC’s previous blog) given his awful shooting performance. Was he expecting another attempt at being a hero? Joe made the right pass to Teague and he got a wide open 3. And it happened without the benefit of a TO. They did everything right on that last possession but make the shot. So WTF was Josh exasperated about, not getting his 21st FGA after missing 75% of his shots?

“Joe made the right pass to Teague and he got a wide open 3.”
Zaza made that pass. Joe never touched the ball on that possession. I am not going to fault Zaza for finding a wide open teammate, but it’s fair to ask why our smart, savvy, heady, veteran point guard who brought the ball up the floor drove aimlessly inside the 3 point line and passed to Zaza on the perimeter instead of looking for the red hot shooting guard who had just made his last three 3 pointers. Nique (or Stinger, I forgot who) pointed this out on the post game show.

“Also, I asked him about using advanced stats in decision making (Sloan Conference stuff). Rick Sund said he is 50-50 on it. He said that stuff has been around for a long time now (since the early/mid 90’s), but seems to just now being getting media attention. He said that when he first arrived in Seattle, the Sonics had just traded two first round picks for an old age center, just because the advanced stats said they should. The center rarely played and was a total bust. Rick Sund pointed out that sometimes, when looking at advanced stats, you have to consider how the player fits on the team they are playing for. That center probably fit his role on his previous team much better than with the Sonics.”
There is no player who fits that exact description. The closest player to that description is Vitaly Potapenko, who averaged 4.6 points per game with Boston the year before he was traded to Seattle. If that’s Sund’s argument for not using advanced stats, he is a moron.

Stop it with the we were short handed crap. Boston was short handed also. Their bet players played better than our best players, and their coach outcoached our coach period. Coaching lost that game last night, and us not having guys who can get their own shot.

the worst thing about Teague’s shot is that he should have held on to the ball and jumped onto Pierce for the FTs or passed again.
Hinrich was open on the left side of the court and JJ was next to him. So if he had faked, let Pierce fly, he would have had 3 options:
1. Jump against Pierce.
2. Pass the rock to Hinrich.
3. Take the shot after Pierce had landed.
Teague shot the 3 as if he only had 1 second to shoot but there were still 5 seconds to play.
He’s young and still wet behind his ears…

allen and petrus were the difference makers throwing darts at us at the wrong time. alln’s 3 at the end of the quarter is what is becoming our mo now with the same happening to force ot with the heat and nuggets and to turn the game last night.
no excuse to play collins after such a lay off and he wasnt rady. he was -8 in 10 minutes. ivan -3 in the same amount of time. ivan had two fouls but was not the problem as he made a few make ups which collins is hard pressed to do as he does nothing more than become a moving statue. yes he stopped one shot last night but did little else positive. in the end too little to late.
anyone know what osh was yelling at his coach about in the fourth quarter? yup osh returned last night and settled and they allowed him to do just that. man turned to boy again.
teague with the terrible shot but it isnt the first one by a hawk this year and he played well. still not sure about the tech as there are many instances in the nba that that isnt called and is seen to be not at a player but to the play. i dont think dwade, bosh or the queen would ever be called for it under similar circumstances. i can remember many bosh acts like this as he has such an ugly face when he does it, it is hard to get out of my memory.

You can’t be saying that we lost the game because we missed Jamal.
We had no trouble finding a relatively open last shot.
The issue is that Teague is basically a rookie, not that we need Jamal.

doc, the case study in Denver will be fun to follow. George Karl trying to turn Javale McGee from a tall athlete into a basketball player. He also suffers from asthma, which I imagine isn’t helped by the Denver altitude. All-in-all, a fairly risky trade but one that could pay off if McGee becomes a defensive anchor in the mode of Tyson Chandler. I suspect there will be some significant “bumps in the road” as mcGee gets used to working under a no nonsense head coach like George Karl.

astro, that is my take as well. i was in co. last week when it went down as well as when the hawks were in town. first, it was a very emotional thing for karl to have nene leave as nene was a very influential force for karl while he went through his ca treatment as nene has had testicular cancer and knew the path and was very helpful to karl during that period of his life. he said this is a relationship of a lifetime to him. hopefully, he can get something into and out of mcghee though he has been able to coexist with melo even during the tumult of last year.
as an aside the colorado media felt the win against a team as talented as the hawks was huge and mighty finally get them on a roll. yes the hawks are well thought of in other areas as a good team. i dont think we are anything but a good team, just not championship ilk. i think that is what our media that gets criticized for is saying and would like to see it change and cant say otherwise without using up cred. how can you say otherwise?
yes i found myself thinking that this was indeed a playoff like game. wish a few more hawk fans had been there. i also noticed that the fans of the c’s were a lot of screaming females in their 20’s, almost like roadies, some bringing their children. it struck me as rather odd and not what you think of in terms of displaced fans from another state. hard to compete against their squeals.

vava74,
Per High-sider
Two seasons ago, the Hawks went 4-0 against the Celtics and Jamal [Crawford] averaged 20+ppg against the Celtics in that ‘09-’10 regular season.
Per me,
Last year he averaged 15 ppg against them in 2 games played. Watching the game yeaterday, it is pretty obvious that we could not score the ball. I guess having another guy who can score when the defense picks up, and can take his man off the dribble is not needed. My bad for being so stupid.

That is just a brutal schedule.
Miami has a tough travel schedule the rest of the way also. One bad thing about being at the bottom, as they call Miami, is the travel. You’ve got to fly a long way for almost every game except Orlando. And travel does take a toll on you.
Those Atlantic teams, Philly, Ny, DC etc. have short travel schedules , especially when there playing each other.

players got to realize they control the crowd not the other way around. if they are clanking and not showing energy fans get pretty complacent too. after all we are paying and they are getting the bucks to “entertain”. by the end of the game both sides were cheering pretty loudly and celt fans were relieved to see the air ball.

Rod from College Park, I like Jamal, too. But, I’m not sad he is gone. He did not have a good season last year. I think a lot of the hype he received this past offseason was due to a weak free agent class and living on the 2009-2010 6th Man Award. Last year, Jamal had way too many games where he took shot a poor % and hurt the team far more than he helped.
Plus, the past two seasons the Hawks bench has been unproductive. Not the case this year. We have T-Mac, Pargo, Ivan, Vlad, Stackhouse…they’ve proven to be a productive bench (notice I left off Hinrich. Hinrich sucks.). Would not have all those guys had the Hawks killed themselves to re-sign Jamal. Team is better for letting him go.

There have been numerous moments like that in the last couple of years. Chicago game last year was full of Chicago fans, Knicks games are always like that, Lakers games, Boston games during the regular season when they won the championship were full of Boston fans. Not so sure why yesterday was such a downsr for you. Atlanta ownership deserves it. I was a season ticket holder for 5 years, and would not be caught dead in Phillips Arena this year unless someone gives me a ticket. I refuse, as well as a lot of people I know with a lot of disposable income, to spend my money on the same product that they keep trottong out there. I won’t pay to see the same movie twice, so why would I pay to see the same lame kiss cam, hear an organist play rap songs, watch some gymnast dunk, and listen to Ryan Cameron screaming all game, when I already know the outcome?

People better understand that Garnett and others like him are the type of PFs that Josh is going to be going up against in the playoffs. Bad matchup or not, he must try to play in the paint. The 0 FT attempts is unacceptable in a game like this, especially when he’s ice cold. Go hard to the hole and make them call a foul either way.
Bottom line is that Josh needs to quit letting Garnett punk him

ALT is known for having fans of the opposing teams taking over in the arena, but its not just ATL. Boston, LA etc have fans all over the country. One reason being…fans like winners.
But you know what? If the Hawks want to shut up the opposing fans, then give the hometown fans a reason to cheer. Josh going 5-20 is not going to get the fans excited, scoring 51 points through 3 quarters is not going to get the fans excited. Letting Boston go on a 13-0 run in the 4th is not going to get fans excited.

In Detroit, Kobe hit a 3 at the buzzer to go to OT, and the Palace went crazy. Keep in mind that the Pistons actually beat the Lakers to win a ring some years ago.

O’Brien . . the difference is that when those other teams are winning, you’re not going to get Laker, or Knick, or Boston fans taking over their arena like that.
But apathy toward the Hawks is so strong, that it routinely happens even if we’re decent. That’s the difference in ATL.
We know that thousands of fans are going to come to Philips to cheer on whatever superstar comes to the arena. But it’s a shame the way they take over the arena like that. This isn’t a high school basketball game in which fans of a cross town rival may pack one side of the gym, basically nullifying any crowd home court advantage. This is the NBA. Our Home crowd is supposed to cheer for the home team. But it is what it is.

SMH @ Golden St fans booing the owner like that during the Chris Mullin jersey retirement ceremony. That was bad. But those fans were pizzed that they traded Monte Ellis for Andrew Bogut. The trade isn’t bad. It’s just that as soon as Stephen Curry proved that he could ball at a high level, they should’ve traded Monte for a big or an upgrade at the 2 guard.
The Ellis – Curry backcourt, while exciting, was not going to produce wins. So G-State did what they had to do in trading him. They just held onto him too long in my opinion.
Funny though . . the Hawks may be faced with that same dilemma when it comes to Horford and Smith.

Some of the criticism of Teague should be directed at the coach, LD:
Instead of just bringing the ball up court and looking for JJ or Josh off long Boston misses, Teague should’ve been pushing the ball and creating easy scoring opportunities. This slow tempo played to Boston favor.
Instead of always looking for JJ or Josh to initiate the offense, Teague should dictate the offense “sometime” by breaking down the defense in the paint to create scoring options for him or others.
LD seems to be happy with Teague timid non-aggressive lethargic game since this pattern has continued as of late. During this season, Teague has been losing his “inner-dog” when the basketball stage gets bigger. The one (and only) aggressive play he made in the Boston game was the dunk against Allen. That abnormally was the exception and not the rule. Most of the Hawks losses come when he plays slow-poke “Bibby style” basketball.
JJ noted at the beginning of this season that Teague needs to be more aggressive and stop deferring all the time. He said the Hawks will only go as far as Jeff Teague takes them. In other words, Teague most become the head of the snake (and not the tail) for the Hawks to really go anywhere.
Since Teague is still so “green”, it is LD job to develop his mindset of how he needs to play. He needs to play “angry” with a chip on his shoulder to be affective and stride to be the best; as an example, think like Russell Westbrook and play like Tony Parker. We saw some of that in the playoff against Chicago last season. Instead he is developing the mindset of his “soft” coach as detected in his comment after he blow the critical 3-pointer:
Teague: “I overshot it. I thought I was farther than I was. It happens.
He’s got a clean look with both eyes (uncontested) at the basket but “he thought he was farther”. So what he saw wasn’t really what he thought, his eyes out-of-sync with mind. I’m curious to know, where was his mind in the heat of that moment? That lame “soft” excuse unchallenged by himself is why (given the same circumstance), he will probably miss again.

I have to agree with…………………with no one. If were all big hawks fans then why when they lose we talk so bad about them.In reality we know this team. They supposed to be a professional team right. This team is very immature. always talking bout what they need. If you stick to your x’s and o’s and play every second like it’s your last just imagine the type of activity you get.I’ve never heard any other players on other teams complain bout players they need ie houston utah. It does hurt to see a coach who doesn’t fit this team. Imagine an Avery Johnson or Rick adelman or maybe even Jerry Sloan coaching these guys. Didn’t Orlando make it to the finals without a complete roster of needed players.

The Truth, did you see this from the previous blog?
Teague had eight points on 13 shots and three assists against two turnovers. Drew spent most of the night barking at him to go get the ball from his teammates and push it when he got it. You see Teague flush on Allen and show some fire and wonder why he can’t be like that more often.

It must be re-stated:
Our Hawks [the players] are weak mentally.
Did I say dumb ?
-No-
Did I question their intelligence ?
-No-
What I am saying is:
* They are immature – as basketball players – amazing due to their age.
This is no longer a ‘`young team`’.
* They are weak minded, they give up, quit, easily …
watch their body language.
* Obviously they suffer from basketball stupidity or low B-ball IQ;
as they refuse to change or correct their bad habits even though
they know their faults – as they correctly state them to MC -
time after time.
* They play to the level of the competition
* They do not display poise under pressure:
r e; Josh`s ill advised “3″ last nite, Teague`s misguided “3″,
Joe`s turnovers;
constantly trying to dribble in, around, or through, double teams,
Pargo dropping the ball out of bounds v Denver,
Zaza`s air ball lay-up v Denver, shall I go on ?
-and-
I contend;
they don`t like one another.
This team does not compete.

Ok, so we should be negative losing a game at home we should have won. But at this point, this is the most confident Hawks team I remember since Steve Smith, Lenny Wilkens, Mutombo, Blaylock and the guys from the late 90’s. We actually expect to win against good teams, which is more than I can say about the past several years.
4th in the League in Defense I like also. Zaza has stepped up. I like this team, and if we get healthy, and LD does his rotations right, I like our chances of a ECF run about as good as anybodys.
Here’s hoping Fisher goes to the Thunder and Turiaf to Boston. The Heat don’t need any more help.

For whatever reason the Knicks greatly concern me in the playoffs. I would much rather play Orlando, Pacers, Philly, or the Celts than the Knicks. I just don’t like our mat hips with them.
And for some reason I think we can beat Chicago or Miami in the playoffs this year, especially the Bulls.
But the Top 8 in the East are really closely matched in my opinion. Could be some upsets and great series in the playoffs. I don’t think it’s the Heat cakewalk some make it out to be. I guarantee you the Heat don’t want to see us in the playoffs, regardless of what some on this blog think.

AJ you have just come full-circle. It all comes back to the coach, either directly or indirect. If there is a pass for him, however small, he was short-handed with limited options. If Pargo was healthy, he probably would have made a difference. But my comments weren’t just about this game but a constant pattern this season.
The expectation of Teague balling (consistently) like he did in last year playoff hasn’t happened yet. He’s been sporadic at best. Maybe it will,

The Knicks should scare you, they are a better team than us. It might not show up in the record, but we would probably get swept by the Knicks in a 7 game series. We have no advantages against them, except Joe, and he is easy to shut down. If Woodson could make the Hawks a good team, he might be able to work wonders with the Knicks. Records this year mean nothing. The goal should be to get to the playoffs as healthy as possible.

Just read the following article, i dont know much about this kid except for a game or two i watched him play. Anyone got any insight??
Article from Bleacher Report.com:
While the Hawks won’t be alone in their pursuit of the young Frenchman, Nicolas Batum must be their prime target if they want to become a legitimate championship contender in the East.
Batum is an excellent defender, a lights-out three-point shooter and, at 23, has all the tools necessary to improve every facet of his game.
He’s a major upgrade over Marvin Williams, but more importantly, a player with legitimate star potential.
Batum’s Season Averages: 13.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.0 spg, 1.0 bpg
Williams’ Season Averages: 9.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.2 apg, 41% 3PT

*****************
Post of the thread so far.
Teague isn’t a natural PG, so he lacks that “leadership gene” that most of your real good PGs have. He’s a scoring PG, more of in the mold of Russell Westbrook, but without Westbrook’s “inner dog”.
It’s just not in Teague ( as of right now ) to take the lead and direct the offense. Josh is a dominant personality on the team, and everything flows through either him or JJ. So despite JJ even telling Teague to be more aggressive, it doesn’t translate all the time.
When Teague has an Avery Johnson moment, and yells at Josh to either give him the ball off of a defensive rebound, or to tell Josh or JJ to get in the post, that’s when we’ll know that he’s ready to lead.
Overall though, can’t complain too much about Teague’s performance this year. 13 ppg – 5 asst – 1.7 stls – 46% FG – 38% 3FG – 71% FT ( which is too low for him ).
Josh needs to stop letting KG punk him . . and Teague needs to stop letting Josh punk him.

“rod i understand what u are saying about crawford. hawks didint do it for fiancial reasons. le me ask u assuming horford was healthy or was playing is this years hawks team overall better than last years team with jamal?”
My personal opinion is that this years team is built to be a better regular season team. We are not built for the playoffs. We are deeper this year, but that will mean nothing in the playoffs. If I know Drew the way I think I know Drew, you won’t mention Ivan Johnson once in the playoffs. Drew won’t play him. Would not be surprised if you don’t hear Pargo, or Willie Greens name much at all either. He will shorten his ratations, defer to Marvin over some of those other players in the playoffs. We will basically be the same team as last year in the playoffs minus Horford, and Jamal. I thinks Zaza actually will match Horfords production in the playoffs, (10 and 10), but no one will be able to be that consistent threat opposite Joe, that Jamal was. We probably lose in round one this year, unless we draw Orlando. That’s the only team we don’t lose to in a seven game series, and maybe Indiana. Anyone else, we are done.

I think Teague follows a long history of Hawks players who are out of position. And like most of them, he is doing the best he can. His reaction to the airball was telling (IMO), he kind of laughed it off. No, not as if he didn’t care or found something funny about the miss, more like he tried to aovid the contentiousness of the moment. He did not want a confrontation with his own emotions. I’d be shocked if he ever “went off” on a teammate, I think he is probably a very mild-mannered, respectful young man off the court who isn’t interested in too much drama. This kid isn’t going to “rock the boat”. I think the best chance to get the “dog” out of him is to put him in the role of a scorer and defender… but don’t ask him to spend too much time as a floor leader. That’s not in his DNA (as northcyde says). Let that kid be a better all around version of Lou Williams.
But, again, there are many Hawks who have played out of position over the past few years… Teague just has to continue to wait for his change to come.

Anyone who actually thinks that we have a chance of beating the Knicks in a 7 game series is smoking some good weed. We are overmatched at every position except Joe. Shumpert, and Fields will easily slow him down. No with Mike Woodson who runs more Iso, Melo, and Amare’s games will pick up, and JR Smith is Jamal Crawford 2.0. Perfect team for him to inherit, and it would not surprise me to see them in the ECF.

“fair point but that sounds more of a coaching thing than personnell. would u feel the same way if hawks had a different coach about the success of this years team?”
A solid coach would help this team tremendously. Josh would not be shooting a ton of jumpers, and bringing the ball up the floor like a guard, Joe would be geting called out when he starts sleep walking, TMac would get much more playing time, we would actually run some sets, Pargo would get much more time than Kirk, Marvin would not ever be starting, Ivan would be getting consistent minutes….. LD has done a decent job, but he has cost us at least 3-5 games this year on coaching alone.

303,
Its not just ATL. When Jeremy Lin hit the game winner for the Knicks in Toronto, the Toronto fans went crazy. You would think they were playing in NY.
In Detroit, Kobe hit a 3 at the buzzer to go to OT, and the Palace went crazy. Keep in mind that the Pistons actually beat the Lakers to win a ring some years ago.
It happens in alot of other arenas. But because we live in ATL and watch Hawks games, we feel like it’s only in ATL where you can find bandwagon fans. It’s not.
Great point..cause when I saw the Braves play in Tampa a few years ago, you would have thought you were at an indoor Turner Field. It was about as bad as when the Steelers played (and got beat by) the Falcons at the Dome some years ago and it was terrible towels everywhere that went home quiet.

Teague is still young but so is his position in the NBA. In the grand scheme of things, he may be mediocre at point. Not to say Jeff is below avg. just that the position has step up the level of talent. You gotta remember Devin Harris was considered on of the best a few years back now he would make my top 30 rankings. Just thinking about a guy like Dragic that is balling stashed behind Lowry.
Kemba and Teagues numbers are eerily similar. I consider Kemba like most a combo guard at best. I’ma do a breakdown of the top 30 point guards and see where and would rank Teague.

Cheerios or Shredded Wheat?
Whether fans cheer or boo is irrelevant to a player showcasing some fundamental basketball skills. Fans PAY to see a competitive, spirited and winning performance.
The game we lost in Denver is a perfect example of this. We weren’t mad because the Hawks lost, because they played great on the road.
When players make smart plays, the fans will cheer-io.

“And, I don’t buy the arguement that it’s the ASG. We live in a sh#t sports town. Any debate about that (and I have defended Atlanta fans many times) ended with the Boston Garden South fiasco last night.”
You must not have watched the regular season Heat-Celtics or Suns-Celtics games last year when the arena was half full of Boston fans chanting “Let’s Go Celtics” there too. The Celtics and Lakers have a ton of bandwagon fans, and all warm weather cities have a) a lot of transplants and b) a lot of bandwagoners. There’s nothing special about Atlanta in that regard, except that Atlanta has had a longer run of pro sports futility than most other warm weather cities.

doc, Woody never said that he would bench Lin, everyone else claimed he would bench Lin. Woody never had a PG that smart and that hungry to succeed (both individually and to lead the team to victory). I also notice that the Knicks are winning as a team, none of their stars has had a monster game (so far) under Woody. He is getting good effort and production from 8+ players every game. They were averaging ~98 points with D’Antoni but have been over 100 in every game with Woody while playing much better defense.
The bubble will surely burst, but I am happy that he is enjoying some early success. I think I’ve heard or read somplace that if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere…

He had a serious ankle injury that required surgery if I’m not mistaken, and now he keeps spraining his ankle every two weeks. Fans of Dragic, Conley, Walker, Knight, etc. could say the exact thing about Teague. Conley is just as young as Teague (8 month difference) and his assist rates have gone up for 4 straight years now. If Atlanta decided to trade teague for conley I personally would not lose any sleep. This is coming from a huge Teague fan, shouting him out 6 months before the draft when he was then considered a top 10 pick before his team imploded.

http://blogs.ajc.com/jeff-schultz-blog/2012/03/20/hawks-showing-us-something-new-they-can-take-a-punch/
From Schultz column;
“Two or three years ago, we would’ve just quit — we would’ve folded,” general manager Rick Sund said Tuesday. “This year we seem to have more resilience. Frankly, before the game [Monday] night, it was amazing to me that we were seven games over .500.”.
Does anyone still wonder if Rick and LD will be back next year?
As for the Hawks schedule, this is from MC;
The Hawks have played the most road games (26) of the eight teams in playoff position. And after Monday’s games they had played the fourth-toughest schedule in the East, according to data compiled by ESPN’s John Hollinger..
That may be part of the reason for optimism. However, Hawks have to beat up on the bad teams and hope the other playoff teams in front of them start losing.

Horford spent this past summer playing for the DR national team, along with Francisco Garcia of the Kings and Villanueva of the Pistons. I think he took time off after those tourney games and lost some of his conditioning when he entered the Hawks camp.
OB, the Knicks haven’t won a playoff series in forever. Woody may need to deliver that for them in order to get the gig permanently. And that will require a 1st round upset, as his team won’t likely be higher than a 7 seed.
I agree with Section 303, Atlanta does have terrible sports fans. Obviously, folk who blog about sports are excluded as they are clearly passionate about their teams. I think the reason is because pro sports are relatively new to this town. Think about it, if you are 40-50 then at best you are a first generation fan of Atlanta pro sports, because teams didn’t come here until the 60s. Compare that to the Yankees, Celtics or the Bears in Chicago. If you are 40-50 in those towns, there have been 3-4 generations of fans for those teams. I personally think there is a valid reason for the lack of sports passion… but I don’t deny that Atlanta sports fandom (in general) is lacking. I lived close to 10 years in the NYC area, the year the Rangers won the Stanley Cup with Messier’s guarantee, I had NEVER seen anything like that in my life (and still haven’t). You could FEEL the energy walking down the streets for the Rangers in the mdiile of the day. Closest thing to that I’ve felt here was Braves 1991-92.

I wonder very much. A first round playoff exit would probably shake up a lot of things. The Hawks should be aiming for the third seed and home court advantage in the first round. To catch ORL, the Hawks cannot afford moronic decisions such as playing Jason Collins during a key stretch that turned what was a winnable game in the Celtics favor.

Remember, the ASG has a quarter-billion dollars invested in future player salaries. Even with revenue from second round playoff series the last three years, the team is still bleeding money. If the team tanks in the first round and doesn’t make that second round money, that means the cash call, where the owners have to pay out of their own pocket to make up for the lack of sufficient revenue to cover expenses, becomes a very big one. If the Hawks flop in the first round, don’t think for one second that LD, Sund or anybody else is safe.

If the Hawks do not have homecourt advantage in the first round, and lose (assuming they dont get swept), ASG can blame it on injuries, which would lead to them not having a higher seed, and not putting up a better fight.
And LD is one of the lowest paid coaches in the league, so I think they pick up his 3rd year option, and give Rick one more year.
The problem is they dont have much room to make moves in terms of player personnel. Their only 2 trade assets are Josh, and Al.

Not as concerned with others about Boston and NY. I would love to get Boston in the playoffs. I hate that f’ing team and they are not good. “NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL has suspended New Orleans head coach Sean Payton for the 2012 season, and former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is banned from the league indefinitely because of the team’s bounty program that targeted opposing players.
Commissioner Roger Goodell will review Williams’ status after the upcoming season and consider whether he can return to the league.
Also Wednesday, Goodell suspended Saints general manager Mickey Loomis for the first eight regular-season games of 2012, and assistant coach Joe Vitt has to sit out the first six games.
In addition, the Saints are being fined $500,000 and forfeit second-round draft picks this year and in 2013.”

Knicks-76ers Preview
By NICOLINO DIBENEDETTO
Posted Mar 21 2012 1:00AM
“The New York Knicks’ revival under coach Mike Woodson is turning the Atlantic Division into a three-team race.
The Philadelphia 76ers would prefer to keep that from happening.
The Knicks look to cut further into the 76ers’ lead atop the Atlantic when the rivals meet for the final time this season Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Center.
New York (22-24) seemed to be fading as recently as a week ago, when a six-game skid dropped the club seven games behind Philadelphia and 4 1/2 back of second-place Boston, prompting coach Mike D’Antoni’s resignation.
With Woodson at the helm, the Knicks have since won four in a row by an average of 22.5 points including Tuesday’s 106-87 home victory over Toronto. Suddenly, New York is within four games of the Sixers and 2 1/2 of the Celtics.
“Guys are playing at a very high, confident level right now,” said forward Carmelo Anthony, who had 17 points and eight rebounds versus the Raptors. “We just want to bottle that up and move on and keep it going.”

Home Court!
OB, oh ok … I forgot the Magic already had home cpurt and yet they lost to the Horford Led Hawks, with Twin as the X-Factor.
Well, in that case – (and I have prevent defenses in football – see Van Gorder – YUCKIE!) Perhaps, OB, we should straddle where we are and manipulate a #6 seed, (I know throwing games is whack!) but, anything to avoid those teams you mentioned until they beat each other up dood first. Meanwhile, try to get healthy and re-gell as two units:
starters and bench.
If we limp into the play offs: it’s like Teddy Perndergrass said, “Turn Off The Lights! Turn ‘Em Off!!! and, light a candle.” LMBO!

Tony Mitchell has the most potential behind only Davis and Drummond. Mitchell is as versatile as Josh while having the same athleticism. Also the Royce White kid has some Draymond Green in him as well.

Grandad, I love Draymond. He will be missed next season. And, I agree. He would be able to help the Hawks.
Prior to this season, I did not think Green would be much of a pro. I’ve changed my mind. He has become a good shooter and has improved his ball handling. He’s always been a good passer, rebounder and teammate. I think he sticks in the NBA.
prison mike, I like Royce White a lot, too. He is just one of those guys who does everything.

TMACfan, preach on! ESPN has become garbage. Full of lazy reporters. They just continue to drone on about the same stories. Can’t wait for baseball! ESPN will talk nothing but Red Sox and Yankees for 6 months.
Another thing about ESPN….they are so transparent. They did not want the Big Ten Network to ever launch. It has. So, they attack or ignore the Big Ten when needed. 4 Big Ten teams in the Sweet 16 (Spartans, Wisconsin, Ohio St, and IU), barely mentioned. But, have a Big Ten team fall behind in the first half of a bowl game (i.e. Michigan State vs Georgia) and they can’t kill the league enough. ESPN = nothing but agenda driven dribble.

Dont forget, there’s a possibility that the Hawks could finished 5th and still have the homecourt advantage over the 4th place team. In the 4-5 seeds matchup, home court advantage goes to the team with the best record.

I’m telling you this kid has scary potential. I would LOVE to have this guy with the 18th or so pick. I can’t wait until draft, I think it’ll be an interesting one for the Hawks. Contrary to popular belief, Sund has done a decent job on drafting these past few years.

We should start a contest to determine how the Hawks will screw up this next draft. Will they….
1. Trade down in order to get cash and a later pick?
2. Sell the 1st round pick and then select someone with the 2nd rounder that no one else would have ever picked.
How will Sund do?

” I lived close to 10 years in the NYC area, the year the Rangers won the Stanley Cup with Messier’s guarantee, I had NEVER seen anything like that in my life (and still haven’t). You could FEEL the energy walking down the streets for the Rangers in the mdiile of the day. Closest thing to that I’ve felt here was Braves 1991-92.”
So you’re telling me that when the local sports team wins championships, the city goes crazy for them? Shocking.
I went to a Braves-Mets game in Citi Field in 2009. Half my section was Braves fans, the stadium was mostly empty, and we all got up and did the chop and chant when Brian McCann hit a home run while the few Mets fans in attendance glared at us silently. Funny how those fantastic New York fans were nowhere to be found then.

“My prediction: The Hawks make the 3 seed. Based on nothing but a hunch really. Don’t worry, I’ll man up and admit I’m wrong if we’re not a 3 seed.”
I don’t think they’ll make it to the 3 seed, but more importantly, I don’t think that’s even a good thing. The 3-6 winner will play the 2 seed in the 2nd round, and as it stands, the 2 seed is Miami. Whatever slim chance the Hawks have of making the Eastern Conference Finals rests on them playing and upsetting Chicago in the 2nd round. I don’t think they have any chance against Miami.
The Hawks should be aiming for the 5 seed so that they can play Philly. I know they haven’t played well against Philly this year, but I like their chances of beating Philly in Round 1 and Chicago in Round 2 better than their chances of beating Miami in Round 2.

We just need about 7 more rebounds off the bench, it doesn’t even have to be a 7 footer. Just a liitle defense and some off bpoards would go a long way – maybe a game or two in the playoffs … When we lose by 1 point again.
Also, we need some real fire power from long distance, instead of drilling the open shot, Vlad tries to put it on the floor and drive inside. We don’t need that from him, just shoot the dang ball – VLAD! Stay in that role.
I say upgrade Vlad, and we should have brought back Jamal or get/got Nick Young, JR Smith (oh no – not him) … We need a sniper man! We got neither and are saddled with injuries. That what makes the doe hards tired of this ISH! Other teams improve while we sell stuff and hide cash. Leave the fans alone! Do a better job with product on the court and, we will come in droves!

One good thing about keeping Collins is we will have someone familiar with defending Dwight Howard. If we face Orlando in the playoffs and Zaza or Al (if healthy) is in foul trouble, at least we can only assume that Collins can hold his own against Howard. At the expense of having one less option on offense, the payoff on defense is worth it.
On another note, Saints are really feeling the effects of the “bounty” system. Already lost picks, cash, and the coach for next year. Wonder what punishments await the players?

The ideal outcome for the Hawks would be to draw Indiana in the first round and Chicago in the 2nd round while Orlando draws Philly in the first round and Miami in the 2nd round. Orlando matches up better with Miami than any other East team, and Atlanta matches up with Indiana better than Philly. If everything shakes out in the Hawks’ favor, they will beat Indiana and Chicago, Orlando will beat Philly and Miami, and the Hawks can battle the Magic for a chance to go to the NBA Finals. Not a likely scenario, but of all the unlikely scenarios that exist for the Hawks to break through the glass ceiling, that’s the most likely one.

One thing about New York teams, winning is celebrated even if it is short-lived. I have to at least give them credit for now, but when things start to go downhill again, there are gonna be some Fire Woody/Hire Phil Jackson signs coming soon.
