Hahahaha drmaryb!

I cant get over those foundation stones the size of small buildings and weighing in at roughly 3000 tonnage? How could they even lift them up and move em? Amazing ish that’s being suppressed?

Today our mightiest cranes can only lift about 1200 tonnage but cant move em…Huh?

Why would anyone [of you bloggers] expect the Hawks to beat the Celtics without its [the Atlanta Hawks'] “Boston Strangler II” aka Jamal Crawford?

Andrew Toney = “The Boston Strangler”
Jamal Crawford = “Boston Strangler II”

303,

Another thing to keep in mind with ATL is we are a predominant football town (mostly college football). Between the ACC and SEC, we just don’t have that many die-hard ATL basketball fans.

Rod,

The Braves of the 90’s were like that too. Built for the regular season (all those consecutive division titles), but only one WS to show for it. And I agree that LD will shorten his playoff rotations (most teams do).

But I still think we can beat Orlando and Indiana in the playoffs without Horford.

Josh at the 3 + Ivan + Pachulia. Everyone bum rush the rim glass for rebounds.

Josh is too small for KG. Hinrich was a nonfactor.

LD starts 3 guards because he thinks their collective IQ will compensate for his lack of strategy.
Hawks need to stop getting pushed and punked and do the punking for a change.

Ivan, Josh, Pachulia + Teague & JJ

Hinrich can kick rocks.

I didnt know Terrence Williams was waived by Houston this week. Hawks should cut Collins, Diamper and Stackhouse then signed Williams, Hickson and Andres Nocioni…

Why did Memphis signed Gilbert Arenas? Zach, Tony Allen and Gibert, there will not be a dull moment in that locker room.

Batum is a nice player but not a priority for the Hawks;
in my opinion.
Our Hawks need Size & Rebounding.

Melvin, Hickson is from MArietta, Wheeler HS specifically. I think Shareef went to Wheeler also. Never had much love for OKC, but if they play Fisher and Westbrook together, watch out.

Sautee, I was thinking more about Teague’s defense, passing abilities and comparable quickness. But you’re right, Lou is a better shooter.

doc, Woody never said that he would bench Lin, everyone else claimed he would bench Lin. Woody never had a PG that smart and that hungry to succeed (both individually and to lead the team to victory). I also notice that the Knicks are winning as a team, none of their stars has had a monster game (so far) under Woody. He is getting good effort and production from 8+ players every game. They were averaging ~98 points with D’Antoni but have been over 100 in every game with Woody while playing much better defense.

The bubble will surely burst, but I am happy that he is enjoying some early success. I think I’ve heard or read somplace that if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere…

Watching the Heat/Suns game. Gotta like Alvin Gentry. His team got some bad calls and no calls as the Heat goes on a 15-0 run to take a 5pt lead. However, Gentry was called for a tech as Wade was shooting an And-1 free throw. Then Gentry calls timeout after the free throws just to chew the refs out some more. LD and Woody would have just stood there with their arms folded… WAF (with arms folded)

I am not a doctor, but I don’t think there’s much of a difference in Curry’s case. He had a serious ankle injury that required surgery if I’m not mistaken, and now he keeps spraining his ankle every two weeks. When healthy, he’s one of the league’s best shooters, although he still needs work on his point guard skills. But I’d rather have a healthy Teague than a damaged Curry.

O’Brien, I agree people love college football here. But, college football, if you take out the Northeast, is big everywhere. I’m from Michigan, went to Michigan State, and football is just as big in the Midwest as it is down here. Some may not believe that, but it is. Michigan/Michigan State rivarly is 24/7, 365.

And, if college football is so big, how come Georgia Tech can’t fill their puny stadium?

Terrible sports fans in this town. Last night’s Pierce cheerleading performance is exhibt A. Not an indictment against the Hawks. It’s an indictment against the worst sports fans in the history of the world: Atlanta, GA.

“The others are either no better than Teague now, no better than Teague will probably be in a couple of years (Conley), or too injury prone (Curry).”

Fans of Dragic, Conley, Walker, Knight, etc. could say the exact thing about Teague. Conley is just as young as Teague (8 month difference) and his assist rates have gone up for 4 straight years now. If Atlanta decided to trade teague for conley I personally would not lose any sleep. This is coming from a huge Teague fan, shouting him out 6 months before the draft when he was then considered a top 10 pick before his team imploded.

For those who say Jeff Schultz never has anything good to say about the Hawks;

http://blogs.ajc.com/jeff-schultz-blog/2012/03/20/hawks-showing-us-something-new-they-can-take-a-punch/

From Schultz column;

“Two or three years ago, we would’ve just quit — we would’ve folded,” general manager Rick Sund said Tuesday. “This year we seem to have more resilience. Frankly, before the game [Monday] night, it was amazing to me that we were seven games over .500.”.

Does anyone still wonder if Rick and LD will be back next year?

As for the Hawks schedule, this is from MC;

The Hawks have played the most road games (26) of the eight teams in playoff position. And after Monday’s games they had played the fourth-toughest schedule in the East, according to data compiled by ESPN’s John Hollinger..

That may be part of the reason for optimism. However, Hawks have to beat up on the bad teams and hope the other playoff teams in front of them start losing.

And props to Woody, going 4-0. I hope his team plays well enough for him to get the HC job at the end of the season.

However, it will be interesting to see how his team looks in the playoffs, because Woody is not known for having a plan B, and in the playoffs, teams adjust.

He is a good player but he had not evolved since his college days.

Horford spent this past summer playing for the DR national team, along with Francisco Garcia of the Kings and Villanueva of the Pistons. I think he took time off after those tourney games and lost some of his conditioning when he entered the Hawks camp.

OB, the Knicks haven’t won a playoff series in forever. Woody may need to deliver that for them in order to get the gig permanently. And that will require a 1st round upset, as his team won’t likely be higher than a 7 seed.

I agree with Section 303, Atlanta does have terrible sports fans. Obviously, folk who blog about sports are excluded as they are clearly passionate about their teams. I think the reason is because pro sports are relatively new to this town. Think about it, if you are 40-50 then at best you are a first generation fan of Atlanta pro sports, because teams didn’t come here until the 60s. Compare that to the Yankees, Celtics or the Bears in Chicago. If you are 40-50 in those towns, there have been 3-4 generations of fans for those teams. I personally think there is a valid reason for the lack of sports passion… but I don’t deny that Atlanta sports fandom (in general) is lacking. I lived close to 10 years in the NYC area, the year the Rangers won the Stanley Cup with Messier’s guarantee, I had NEVER seen anything like that in my life (and still haven’t). You could FEEL the energy walking down the streets for the Rangers in the mdiile of the day. Closest thing to that I’ve felt here was Braves 1991-92.

“Does anyone still wonder if Rick and LD will be back next year?” – O’Brien

I wonder very much. A first round playoff exit would probably shake up a lot of things. The Hawks should be aiming for the third seed and home court advantage in the first round. To catch ORL, the Hawks cannot afford moronic decisions such as playing Jason Collins during a key stretch that turned what was a winnable game in the Celtics favor.

aj, the knicks are a selective 4 games from being a top four seed. all they have to do is pass philly and keep melo happy who has admitted he sabotaged his former coach and his present team by not giving full effort.

Buddy Grizzard

Remember, the ASG has a quarter-billion dollars invested in future player salaries. Even with revenue from second round playoff series the last three years, the team is still bleeding money. If the team tanks in the first round and doesn’t make that second round money, that means the cash call, where the owners have to pay out of their own pocket to make up for the lack of sufficient revenue to cover expenses, becomes a very big one. If the Hawks flop in the first round, don’t think for one second that LD, Sund or anybody else is safe.

O'Brien

Buddy,

If the Hawks do not have homecourt advantage in the first round, and lose (assuming they dont get swept), ASG can blame it on injuries, which would lead to them not having a higher seed, and not putting up a better fight.

And LD is one of the lowest paid coaches in the league, so I think they pick up his 3rd year option, and give Rick one more year.

The problem is they dont have much room to make moves in terms of player personnel. Their only 2 trade assets are Josh, and Al.

Well, we’re about to begin a stretch of 8 games in 11 days, and 7 in 9 days starting Friday. All part of a brutal 10 games in a 14 day stretch to close out March.

One of those games I would rest Teague, JJ, Josh, and Zaza. They’ve been logging a ton of minutes. Save them for the playoffs.

My prediction: The Hawks make the 3 seed. Based on nothing but a hunch really. Don’t worry, I’ll man up and admit I’m wrong if we’re not a 3 seed.

But I’ll be crowing if we are.

Anyhow, that’s my take. Anybody else have a guess?

Astro Joe

Steve, I think the Heat & Bulls are so far ahead of the rest of the conference, that seeding doesn’t too much matter, as long as you are 6 or above (to avoid a 1st round defeat). After that, I don’t expect any team to go further than 6 games against those two teams.
