And Joe shouldn’t care. No player should care, they should play hard because of their own personal values and because that is why they are paid. Don’t want varying effort based on Hawks fan attendance.

O’Brien . . the difference is that when those other teams are winning, you’re not going to get Laker, or Knick, or Boston fans taking over their arena like that.

But apathy toward the Hawks is so strong, that it routinely happens even if we’re decent. That’s the difference in ATL.

We know that thousands of fans are going to come to Philips to cheer on whatever superstar comes to the arena. But it’s a shame the way they take over the arena like that. This isn’t a high school basketball game in which fans of a cross town rival may pack one side of the gym, basically nullifying any crowd home court advantage. This is the NBA. Our Home crowd is supposed to cheer for the home team. But it is what it is.

When this team won 80% of the time at home, you’d still see the same things.

SMH @ Golden St fans booing the owner like that during the Chris Mullin jersey retirement ceremony. That was bad. But those fans were pizzed that they traded Monte Ellis for Andrew Bogut. The trade isn’t bad. It’s just that as soon as Stephen Curry proved that he could ball at a high level, they should’ve traded Monte for a big or an upgrade at the 2 guard.

The Ellis – Curry backcourt, while exciting, was not going to produce wins. So G-State did what they had to do in trading him. They just held onto him too long in my opinion.

Funny though . . the Hawks may be faced with that same dilemma when it comes to Horford and Smith.

northclyde, i always look at things as a team thing not an individual thing. i have watched a lot of jamal career. i lve northeast so i watched him n knicks and other teams. knicks fans call him crawful. he is a good bench player and if the money was right hawks would’ve signed him but they didnt

would u have liked him with that last second shot if jj was covered instead of teague yes but when it comes to a bench i will take depth over just one player for offense

Some of the criticism of Teague should be directed at the coach, LD:

Instead of just bringing the ball up court and looking for JJ or Josh off long Boston misses, Teague should’ve been pushing the ball and creating easy scoring opportunities. This slow tempo played to Boston favor.

Instead of always looking for JJ or Josh to initiate the offense, Teague should dictate the offense “sometime” by breaking down the defense in the paint to create scoring options for him or others.

LD seems to be happy with Teague timid non-aggressive lethargic game since this pattern has continued as of late. During this season, Teague has been losing his “inner-dog” when the basketball stage gets bigger. The one (and only) aggressive play he made in the Boston game was the dunk against Allen. That abnormally was the exception and not the rule. Most of the Hawks losses come when he plays slow-poke “Bibby style” basketball.

JJ noted at the beginning of this season that Teague needs to be more aggressive and stop deferring all the time. He said the Hawks will only go as far as Jeff Teague takes them. In other words, Teague most become the head of the snake (and not the tail) for the Hawks to really go anywhere.

Since Teague is still so “green”, it is LD job to develop his mindset of how he needs to play. He needs to play “angry” with a chip on his shoulder to be affective and stride to be the best; as an example, think like Russell Westbrook and play like Tony Parker. We saw some of that in the playoff against Chicago last season. Instead he is developing the mindset of his “soft” coach as detected in his comment after he blow the critical 3-pointer:

Teague: “I overshot it. I thought I was farther than I was. It happens.

He’s got a clean look with both eyes (uncontested) at the basket but “he thought he was farther”. So what he saw wasn’t really what he thought, his eyes out-of-sync with mind. I’m curious to know, where was his mind in the heat of that moment? That lame “soft” excuse unchallenged by himself is why (given the same circumstance), he will probably miss again.

303, i would say jj loves the generosity of the basg more than the fans or his teammates but whatever, he is here and the guy is still top notch if not top tier clutch at what he does. wish he had had the op last night for the shot but it is what it is. wish he had made a few more earlier in the game when thy could have put them away but continued to miss makable shots.

still no reason to have collins on there and not ivan, no reason at all as he can mov and he does draw fouls and that in itself means the offense has to make sure they know where he is. he also doesnt back down to anyone or anything.

I have to agree with…………………with no one. If were all big hawks fans then why when they lose we talk so bad about them.In reality we know this team. They supposed to be a professional team right. This team is very immature. always talking bout what they need. If you stick to your x’s and o’s and play every second like it’s your last just imagine the type of activity you get.I’ve never heard any other players on other teams complain bout players they need ie houston utah. It does hurt to see a coach who doesn’t fit this team. Imagine an Avery Johnson or Rick adelman or maybe even Jerry Sloan coaching these guys. Didn’t Orlando make it to the finals without a complete roster of needed players.

The Truth, did you see this from the previous blog?

Teague had eight points on 13 shots and three assists against two turnovers. Drew spent most of the night barking at him to go get the ball from his teammates and push it when he got it. You see Teague flush on Allen and show some fire and wonder why he can’t be like that more often.

BTW, I think it is CRAZY that a PG has to “get the ball from his teammate”. I envision two players wearing the same uniform acting like 6 YOs fighting over a ball on the playground. I don’t know what is worse, the notion that the head coach can’t demand that teammates pass the ball to Teague or that teammate(s) refuse to give Teague the ball in the first place.

It must be re-stated:

Our Hawks [the players] are weak mentally.
Did I say dumb ?
-No-
Did I question their intelligence ?
-No-
What I am saying is:
* They are immature – as basketball players – amazing due to their age.
This is no longer a ‘`young team`’.

* They are weak minded, they give up, quit, easily …
watch their body language.
* Obviously they suffer from basketball stupidity or low B-ball IQ;
as they refuse to change or correct their bad habits even though
they know their faults – as they correctly state them to MC -
time after time.
* They play to the level of the competition
* They do not display poise under pressure:
r e; Josh`s ill advised “3″ last nite, Teague`s misguided “3″,
Joe`s turnovers;
constantly trying to dribble in, around, or through, double teams,
Pargo dropping the ball out of bounds v Denver,
Zaza`s air ball lay-up v Denver, shall I go on ?

-and-

I contend;
they don`t like one another.

This team does not compete.

-please-

Ok, so we should be negative losing a game at home we should have won. But at this point, this is the most confident Hawks team I remember since Steve Smith, Lenny Wilkens, Mutombo, Blaylock and the guys from the late 90’s. We actually expect to win against good teams, which is more than I can say about the past several years.

4th in the League in Defense I like also. Zaza has stepped up. I like this team, and if we get healthy, and LD does his rotations right, I like our chances of a ECF run about as good as anybodys.

Here’s hoping Fisher goes to the Thunder and Turiaf to Boston. The Heat don’t need any more help.

For whatever reason the Knicks greatly concern me in the playoffs. I would much rather play Orlando, Pacers, Philly, or the Celts than the Knicks. I just don’t like our mat hips with them.

And for some reason I think we can beat Chicago or Miami in the playoffs this year, especially the Bulls.

But the Top 8 in the East are really closely matched in my opinion. Could be some upsets and great series in the playoffs. I don’t think it’s the Heat cakewalk some make it out to be. I guarantee you the Heat don’t want to see us in the playoffs, regardless of what some on this blog think.

AJ you have just come full-circle. It all comes back to the coach, either directly or indirect. If there is a pass for him, however small, he was short-handed with limited options. If Pargo was healthy, he probably would have made a difference. But my comments weren’t just about this game but a constant pattern this season.

The expectation of Teague balling (consistently) like he did in last year playoff hasn’t happened yet. He’s been sporadic at best. Maybe it will,

SteveW,

The Knicks should scare you, they are a better team than us. It might not show up in the record, but we would probably get swept by the Knicks in a 7 game series. We have no advantages against them, except Joe, and he is easy to shut down. If Woodson could make the Hawks a good team, he might be able to work wonders with the Knicks. Records this year mean nothing. The goal should be to get to the playoffs as healthy as possible.

Just read the following article, i dont know much about this kid except for a game or two i watched him play. Anyone got any insight??

Article from Bleacher Report.com:

While the Hawks won’t be alone in their pursuit of the young Frenchman, Nicolas Batum must be their prime target if they want to become a legitimate championship contender in the East.

Batum is an excellent defender, a lights-out three-point shooter and, at 23, has all the tools necessary to improve every facet of his game.

He’s a major upgrade over Marvin Williams, but more importantly, a player with legitimate star potential.

Batum’s Season Averages: 13.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.0 spg, 1.0 bpg

Williams’ Season Averages: 9.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.2 apg, 41% 3PT

*****************

Post of the thread so far.

Teague isn’t a natural PG, so he lacks that “leadership gene” that most of your real good PGs have. He’s a scoring PG, more of in the mold of Russell Westbrook, but without Westbrook’s “inner dog”.

It’s just not in Teague ( as of right now ) to take the lead and direct the offense. Josh is a dominant personality on the team, and everything flows through either him or JJ. So despite JJ even telling Teague to be more aggressive, it doesn’t translate all the time.

When Teague has an Avery Johnson moment, and yells at Josh to either give him the ball off of a defensive rebound, or to tell Josh or JJ to get in the post, that’s when we’ll know that he’s ready to lead.

Overall though, can’t complain too much about Teague’s performance this year. 13 ppg – 5 asst – 1.7 stls – 46% FG – 38% 3FG – 71% FT ( which is too low for him ).

Josh needs to stop letting KG punk him . . and Teague needs to stop letting Josh punk him.

“rod i understand what u are saying about crawford. hawks didint do it for fiancial reasons. le me ask u assuming horford was healthy or was playing is this years hawks team overall better than last years team with jamal?”

My personal opinion is that this years team is built to be a better regular season team. We are not built for the playoffs. We are deeper this year, but that will mean nothing in the playoffs. If I know Drew the way I think I know Drew, you won’t mention Ivan Johnson once in the playoffs. Drew won’t play him. Would not be surprised if you don’t hear Pargo, or Willie Greens name much at all either. He will shorten his ratations, defer to Marvin over some of those other players in the playoffs. We will basically be the same team as last year in the playoffs minus Horford, and Jamal. I thinks Zaza actually will match Horfords production in the playoffs, (10 and 10), but no one will be able to be that consistent threat opposite Joe, that Jamal was. We probably lose in round one this year, unless we draw Orlando. That’s the only team we don’t lose to in a seven game series, and maybe Indiana. Anyone else, we are done.

I think Teague follows a long history of Hawks players who are out of position. And like most of them, he is doing the best he can. His reaction to the airball was telling (IMO), he kind of laughed it off. No, not as if he didn’t care or found something funny about the miss, more like he tried to aovid the contentiousness of the moment. He did not want a confrontation with his own emotions. I’d be shocked if he ever “went off” on a teammate, I think he is probably a very mild-mannered, respectful young man off the court who isn’t interested in too much drama. This kid isn’t going to “rock the boat”. I think the best chance to get the “dog” out of him is to put him in the role of a scorer and defender… but don’t ask him to spend too much time as a floor leader. That’s not in his DNA (as northcyde says). Let that kid be a better all around version of Lou Williams.

But, again, there are many Hawks who have played out of position over the past few years… Teague just has to continue to wait for his change to come.

Anyone who actually thinks that we have a chance of beating the Knicks in a 7 game series is smoking some good weed. We are overmatched at every position except Joe. Shumpert, and Fields will easily slow him down. No with Mike Woodson who runs more Iso, Melo, and Amare’s games will pick up, and JR Smith is Jamal Crawford 2.0. Perfect team for him to inherit, and it would not surprise me to see them in the ECF.

“fair point but that sounds more of a coaching thing than personnell. would u feel the same way if hawks had a different coach about the success of this years team?”

A solid coach would help this team tremendously. Josh would not be shooting a ton of jumpers, and bringing the ball up the floor like a guard, Joe would be geting called out when he starts sleep walking, TMac would get much more playing time, we would actually run some sets, Pargo would get much more time than Kirk, Marvin would not ever be starting, Ivan would be getting consistent minutes….. LD has done a decent job, but he has cost us at least 3-5 games this year on coaching alone.
