Celtics at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread

Marvin Williams (hip) and Vladimir Radmanovic (back) are out. Jermaine O’Neal (wrist) and Chris Wilcox (heart) are out for the Celtics.

  • Willie Green (hamstring) says he will return after missing eight games. Green says he may have sat longer if not for Jannero Pargo being added to Atlanta’s long injury list: “I told that coaches and trainers it’s a matter of getting on the floor. I’m at that 80 percent range but, the fact of the matter is no one on the team is feeling 100 percent. I feel good enough to get out there.”
  • Drew said the crowded injury list means he may use Tracy McGrady on the second game of a back-to-back: “Because we are so limited there is a chance we will definitely use him again tonight. We just take it a day at a time.”
  • Drew said Pargo is scheduled to return to Atlanta from Cleveland tomorrow after having an appendectomy Sunday. Drew said Pargo will be out two to four weeks.
  • Jeff Teague and Kirk Hinrich are Atlanta’s only healthy point guards. Drew said Joe Johnson and McGrady also can fill in.
  • Drew on the Celtics: “This is a game that has a lot of meaning. This is our first encounter with Boston this year. I think both teams are looking to make a statement. With them on the long road trip they are on, we are a little depleted but we feel we are a capable team that still has the ability to win. We are going to come out and approach this game with playoff intensity. It’s going to be a physical game, it’s going to be a war. I think this is a statement game. ”
  • Green on the Celtics: “Those guys are very good basketball players. You hear things like they are older and not moving as quickly but that’s a team that is getting ready for another playoff run. We have to come in tonight focused with the mindset that we have to play them like they were a few years back going to the Finals.”

LD and teague, he walked the ball up the floor, played right into slow Boston’s hands. You all thought Josh would stay hot forever, this is just bad coaching and strategy. In my mind, this goes on Teague, push the ball son.

I’m on strike until they fire LD. I’ll be on the blog with the real coaches and owners, the Falcons. I refuse to watch this team that is ran by this horrible excuse for a coach. Adios, my fellow fans.

This is an embarrassing piece of @#$@$@. The Hawks- God Bless em- will end up losing this game b/c they don’t have a coach, period. Timeout after timeout Smith shoots 3 pointers. It’s unbelievable how bad we are. Josh Smith wants to be traded???????So do I…..this team is garbage. THE OWNERSHIP SUCKS, THE TEAM HAS NO HEART AND LARRY DREW IS STEALING MONEY.

“Unbelievable,” exclaims Nique. What’s really unbelievable is that anyone would term a Hawks collapse against the Celtics unbelievable.

“Jamal Crawford was the difference in the Hawks and the Celtics last year. No Jamal, we are not better than the Celtics. It’s really pretty simple.” – Rod from College Park

Two seasons ago, the Hawks went 4-0 against the Celtics and Jamal [Crawford] averaged 20+ppg against the Celtics in that ‘09-’10 regular season.

Teague has now played 37 minutes, has 2 turnovers, has his shot blocked twice, 2 assist 3 fouls and 8 points. and is a -10 on the over/under

Rondo has 13 assists and 10 pts

Teague will never understand how to run an offense. Youd think he would have learned something by now.

Hawks had an opportunity to take advantage of Pierce and his early foul troubles. They failed to do so. That in itself falls on LD.

It was a good game until the fourth quarter. De Ja Vu?

Find a way to blame JJ, its the same story, they let Josh shoot and rotate to Joe. If you know anything about basketball, teague is in there to push the ball, he walked it up. Low b-ball IQ, why did josh help off ray allen of all people, just dumb. LD can not coach, Josh and Joe have bailed him out this year, mainly Josh, but the old josh shows up in a slow down game.

The Hewks, the Haeks, the Heoks, lead this thing at toward the end of the third quarter; I go to shower and thangz, then come back and it’s the 4th quarter with about 5 or 6 minutes left and the Haqks are down by 12 points. There are more Celtic fans at the Phillips than Hawks fans. Here is the majik question: why am I not surprised that this has happened. Let’s go to school for a minute. Doc Rivers knows how to coach the skin off an orange; LD can’t coach his way out of a paper bag. That’s the difference. Doc Rivers let his team hang around all game long, because he knew that his team would come out superior at the end of the game. So, instead of LD pushing his guys like crazy, he was just happy to have a slim lead at the end of the third quarter. The Hawks need a new coach, because they will not get out of the first round in the playoffs, no matter who they play. LD is a joke of a coach-that looks like an ole man chewing peanuts with his mismash mouth. He’s a passive no good doormat of a coach that has no clue about where his team is and where they could potentially go. He should have been animated (I don’t care if that’s not his style) on the sidelines and been mindfull and aware of what the Celtics are capable of doing. This is a clown in a suit that doesn’t need to be coaching in the NBA.

After tonight’s loss, the Hawks will only be 1.5 games ahead of Boston. If the Hawks fall to the 7th or 8th seed in the Eastern Conference at the end of the regular season, the Hawks will lose to the Heat or the Bulls in the first round of the playoffs this year.
