Celtics at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread

Marvin Williams (hip) and Vladimir Radmanovic (back) are out. Jermaine O’Neal (wrist) and Chris Wilcox (heart) are out for the Celtics.

  • Willie Green (hamstring) says he will return after missing eight games. Green says he may have sat longer if not for Jannero Pargo being added to Atlanta’s long injury list: “I told that coaches and trainers it’s a matter of getting on the floor. I’m at that 80 percent range but, the fact of the matter is no one on the team is feeling 100 percent. I feel good enough to get out there.”
  • Drew said the crowded injury list means he may use Tracy McGrady on the second game of a back-to-back: “Because we are so limited there is a chance we will definitely use him again tonight. We just take it a day at a time.”
  • Drew said Pargo is scheduled to return to Atlanta from Cleveland tomorrow after having an appendectomy Sunday. Drew said Pargo will be out two to four weeks.
  • Jeff Teague and Kirk Hinrich are Atlanta’s only healthy point guards. Drew said Joe Johnson and McGrady also can fill in.
  • Drew on the Celtics: “This is a game that has a lot of meaning. This is our first encounter with Boston this year. I think both teams are looking to make a statement. With them on the long road trip they are on, we are a little depleted but we feel we are a capable team that still has the ability to win. We are going to come out and approach this game with playoff intensity. It’s going to be a physical game, it’s going to be a war. I think this is a statement game. ”
  • Green on the Celtics: “Those guys are very good basketball players. You hear things like they are older and not moving as quickly but that’s a team that is getting ready for another playoff run. We have to come in tonight focused with the mindset that we have to play them like they were a few years back going to the Finals.”

Teague fcked that game up, but I knew that. I told you that at the beginning of the game. Like Tyler said Teague and Al mess this team up. We need to trade for a center and a point guard. Or let Hinrich run it.

Teague is clueless.

Another loss to a team over .500! They will win the next three and give themselves the illusion that they are playing better. Larry Drew folks is worthless!

“JJ doing all he can. He’ll get the last shot via ISO after the FTs.”

Too late, he should have been playing this way most of the game instead of waiting until the end of the game.

Yeah and what is with Teague smiling after single handedly ending the Hawks chances at a comeback? That is about the 10th time I have seen Teague smile this year when it is completely unwarranted, somebody better tell that kid he gets paid millions NOT to express the emotions of a compete douchebag…

Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford are clutch [scorers]. Joe Johnson needs the help of another clutch scorer going into this year’s playoffs to alleviate some of the [defensive] pressure he’s going to face.

LD said this was a statement game, and then he played Collins over Ivan in a key stretch of the 3rd quarter that turned the game around.

Still confused as to why Willie Green didn’t get any minutes if he was active. Not that he should have played much in his first game back, but when nothing else is working, you’d think LD would try his best bench scorer to see what he’s got.

And one of the “other” announcers mentions that Teague shot an airball with a chance to tie. But in the typical spineless tradition of all Hawks announcers, he fails to mention how Teague grinned like a jackass eatin’ briars after he missed that three.

Yes, it is somewhat the coaches fault… but, did you not also watch the game? The coach made the players play like it’s their first game ever for 47 minutes of the game? The sloppiest NBA game I’ve ever seen… and that has nothing to do with coaching!

Good pong n-trigue, this loss was on coaching. I didnt know what LD was doing. Coach has to install toughness. Boston is though more mentally tough with that Hawks. Also I dont like Teague smiling after missing a three but I am not gonna kill him. He is young. Zsa had a big time game. Had no idea what Collins was doing in the game coming back from injury being bandaged up. The Celtics are even that great anymore.

The bottom line is that the Hawks can beat the cavs, wizards and the bottom feeders of the world but against the 2nd tier teams such as Philly, Knicks, Celtics, Orlando Indiana which the Hawks are in it is 50/50 if they win a playoff series and against the Bulls and Heat I dont give them a chance.
