The Core baby . . . THE CORE!!
Hawks marketing team should print up some t-shirts with a 3-way shot of JJ, Josh, and Al on it, with . . THE CORE, written at the bottom. And put their accomplishments on the back of the t-shirt.

Here’s hoping the Hawks can surprise people during the playoffs. TMac could be the ’secret weapon’, especially during the end of games.

tmac is not the answer, never was never will be. sure he can have a few games or two but he still has no cohesion with any unit the way he is being played and he is waaaay to brittle to be counted on which has been his MO even when young.

It is am embarrassment that this current ownership group has resorted to selling draft picks for cash. Second round picks should be used to draft players overseas or other talent that might develop one day. Quite frankly, if you own a sports team, you should have the enough money to absorb some potential luxury tax bills. If you don’t, you probably shouldn’t be an NBA owner. I don’t blame the Hawks for standing pat at the trading deadline, but I do blame them for selling team assets to simply haul in some cash. The league should not allow teams to sell draft picks anymore.

Only in America!
The ASKG sells a player to be named later for cash. My question is, if they don’t get the cash NOW – hoe does that help them now?
Is the cash later going to reimburse them for the tax nibble they pay at season’s end? Looks like they are off-setting a future operating expense.
I just don’t get it! Seems like they “blew the whistle!” Yesterday on this season.

MC,
In the NBA bylaws, can a team package draft picks to move up earlier in the round, kinda like the Falcons did in 2011 to get WR Julio Jones?
I know ASG is now scrounging the sofa cushions and looking under car seats for change to pay the lux tax, but can you ask Sund if there was any consideration to keeping both 2nd round picks to package one or both along with whatever 1st round position we get as trade bait to move up/swap 1st round positions with another team?

THE CORE t-shirt . . . on sale NOW.
- Use this Slam Magazine cover image ( or an image similar ) with The Core posing like they did on the cover 2 years ago.
- Black t-shirt
- write THE CORE in big white or red letters on the bottom 1/3rd of the t-shirt ( depending on what color the t-shirt is and what color uniforms the players are wearing.
- write THE CORE ( 2004 – 2011 ) along the top of the t-shirt on the back
- List THE CORE’S major accomplishments on the back, like when you get a t-shirt at a concert, and they have all of the concert dates on the back
* Established 2004
* 8 NBA All-Star appearances
* Two 3rd team All-NBA selections ( 2010, 2011 )
* One All-NBA Defensive 2nd team selection ( 2010 )
* 4 straight playoff appearances ( 2008 – 11 )
* 3 straight Elite Eight ( 2nd round ) playoff appearances ( 2009 – 11 )
* 205 total wins since 2007 ( including this season’s win total )
* 126 home wins since 2007 ( 126 – 56 = .692 winning percentage )
- put the Hawks logo on the bottom 1/3rd on the back of the t-shirt

For some reason I can’t view the video at this time but I’m pretty sure I’m not missing any pertinent info like the ASG sold the team. This ownership group is a joke. Why are you paying the luxury tax when you have Jerry Stackhouse, Erik Dampier and Jason Collins on your roster? And on top of that, you have TMAC, Pargo, Gree, Ivan and Vlad making the vet min. Thats 8 out 15 players on the roster making vet min. That’s just poor asset management. This ownership group is over their heads. They have no idea how to run a successful NBA franchise.

I know they have tried to trade Marvin, but isn’t he a part of the core too?
And I agree about the marketing. They do the bare minimum. After JJ made his ‘I don’t care about the fans showing up’ comment, they signed him to a huge deal. But given the way fans felt about him, why not do a press conference with JJ after the signing, to try and win some fans back?
Why aren’t they promoting Josh Smith (and the Hawks team as a whole) more? The Falcons have Samuel L. Jackon doing “rise-up” commercials. What do the Hawks have? Commercials talking about Linsanity and Jeff Teague, and Josh and LeBron. SMH.
And I agree about the music. Where are the big name artists as a whole (regardless of the genre)?

Sometimes I worry that the Hawks are going to leave the city just like the Thrashers. This is the 2nd time the ASG has sold a pick, correct? Did that happen the year they drafted Jordan Crawford?
You never hear of other teams going down that road. I understand they’re in the luxary and the money from a worthless 2nd round pick will help knock off some of the tax balence. But, no one else does that. At least, not that I can think of.
Debating with myself on whether or not to attend the game tonight. Do I go to Philips, DVR NCAA games I want to see? Or, do I just stay home (or goto MSU Alumni Bar (Jocks and Jills)) and watch the Tourney? Any thoughts?

I think the Hawks screwed themselves when they sign Joe Johnson to that big contract. Ever since then, all of his numbers have slipped. So are you telling me that when people pay you more, you do less? Wow, i think they should have let him and tested free agency. Everyone knows that Al and Josh are the real reasons to our success.

The Hawks organization is a complete sham. The thing they dont understand the rest of the league is snickering behind their back. Players just laugh when the issue of playing for the Hawks comes up. I can see where Josh Smith is on wanting out and Dwight not wanting to come here. There is NO elite player in this league that would come to Atlanta.
I think down the road the ASG will sell the team and they will move to Seattle. Then a new ownership group will petition the NBA for a new franchise.

Woodson -vs- Lin
Woody…AKA “The young PG molester
AKA “The Lin-REEPER
If any of you think that CP3 or DWill would be the players that they are under WOODY, watch what he does to LIN….It has been one game and he is already calling LIN a VIRTUAL ROOKIE.
This is a qoute from a person the worked for WOODY.
“(Woodson) prefers veterans to rookies. He wants the offense to run through his stars. He will run most of his plays for Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire. None of this bodes well for Lin.
“Woody’s inclination would not be to play him,” said a person who has worked with Woodson.”
PS. Bibby got playing time in Woody’s 1st game and they are predicting the BDavis will soon be starting.
If he can BENCH or MARGINALIZE LIN, what would he have done to CP3 or DWILL as ROOKIES

One would figure a kid watching his hometown team get the crap beat out of them night in and night out saying, “One day im gonna make a change and WE are going to be like the Bulls, Lakers, Spurs or Celtics.”
But in Atlanta’s case, Dwight Howard didnt want to touch the mess created by ASG amd company. You would think the hometown kid would grow up to save the day, but Dwight, like about 25 other Superstars look at Atlanta as a place to party after the game.

Rufus, what were Lin’s stats in the 5-8 games before Woody took over? That’s my first question. Second question, what was different about Woody’s first game with the Knicks and the previous 5-6 games with Lin-friendly coach D’Antoni? Last question, how many points has Acie Law scored during this season in the NBA?
Astro Joe

Rufus, one more question, when your team is winning by 25+ points throughout most of the second half, is there a good reason why you wouldn’t play every healthy player on the team? Did you see how many minutes Melo and Amare played Wednesday night during the blowout?
Time

@rufus1 – Woody is going to try and destroy Lin. And he has a good shot. But, with the Knicks, there’s always their marketing department that alot of times has more say than anyone. I would think Dolan, who is raking in Linsanity cash, is going to force Woody to play Lin unless the Knicks somehow start winning and looking like a contender under Woody. Which we all know is not going to happen. What will happen is alot of Iso-Melo offense. To the point that Knicks fans will hate Woody and Melo almost as much as we hate him and Joe.

AJ,
The point is that Woody has a problem with young PG’s and he will continue to prove that no matter what young pg it is… He destroys the confidence of young PG,s, won’t play them and doesn’t run an offense that is to their benefit….. How can any young PG thrive in that kind of enviroment?
How your coach treats you is very important to every player, no matter their status….Look how BAD Melo played because Dantoni didn’t believe in him, so imagine a ROOKIE….Look how Lin thrived in the right system.
I worked as a teacher and I always remeber that these are KIDS(rookies) and the same rules apply when trying to get the best out of them…
CONSISTENCY, DIRECTION AND SUPPORT…WOODY provides none of that!!!!
DWill and CP3 would have FAILED just like everyone else(relatively speaking)…I don’t think they would be world class PGs, but they maybe serviceable/solid…Life doesn’ happen in a vacuum.
PS. Lin’s FALL coincides with the return of MELO(AKA The Ball stopper)

Sund is making a habit out of flipping picks for cash as he did in 2010. He acquired Guard-Forward 6′ 7″ Damion James and then traded him to the Nets for their Rd: 2 pick which got converted into 3m in cash. He later bragged to the media about how smart that was. He then took the other 2nd rd 53rd overall pick and selected Guard-Forward 6′ 7″ Pape Sy, an unknown by everyone including his team-mates.
The Hawks probably paid nearly 3M in expenses preparing Pape Sy for the NBA only to cut him this season after discovering he was not a good fit.
It suggests in hindsight that the 3M Sund bragged about really covered the asinine mistake he made in the first place, LOL.
I wouldn’t be surprise if he and the ASG do this again just to spite the fans since winning don’t seem to a priority.

Rufus, since you’re a teacher, I’ll try this analogy. The NBA is like AP-Calculus and not everyone is going to succeed in AP-Calculus. Just because you do well on standardized tests and the previous Math teacher thinks that you can handle it (in this case draft gurus) it doesn’t mean they are perfect in their evaluation. Acie was not able to stay in the NBA. I recall that he missed games for seemingly no particularly good reason. And this is from someone who was thrilled when we drafted him and was more thrilled after his debut in Philips against the Mavs.
Both Joshes played as rookies. So did Marvin, Al, Salim and even Acie (prior to the Bibby trade). Bibby was coming off a 15/5 season when Teague was a rookie, not exactly poor numbers (yes, his defense was bad but the Hawks won 53 games that season).
Back to the Knicks, they have struggled most of the season, so the fortunes of Lin should not take precedent over the team’s success. Lin was a story because he helped them win, I honestly don’t see the difference on who delivers the victories. Lin averaged 5 TOs in February and is averaging 4 TOs in March. His A:T ratio is less than 2, bad by any standard for a PG. How many head coaches would accept that from their PG? Think Pop, Phil, Karl, Carlisle or Larry Brown would go for that? I don’t.

AJ,
I haven’t been a teacher for about 20years….FYI
Everyone doesn’t have the skill to succeed in the NBA/classroom, but a good teacher/coach can get the player/student to maximize their abilities…. A good teacher can take a “C” student and make them a “B” student and put them on the path to college….A BAD teachers could send that “C” student on the path to being a drop-out.
If we assume that every player starts at the same skill level, then I agree with you that Law failed in this league….I believe Law was a “C” level PG (CP3 & DWill were “A” level) and Woody turned him into a DROP-OUT.
There are a numbers of “C” level PGs performing well in this league(Jenning, Holliday, Lowry, Lawson and Conley), because they were under the right coach/teacher. Some coaches always have Multiple good young PGs(Aldelman, Sloan, Brooks(OKC) and Scott), but Woody hasn’t had a SINGLE ONE.
Analogy:
If a person is rear ended more than 4 times, the insurance industry considers that person a bad driver, even though the accidents weren’t their fault. The statistics say that they are doing something to cause the accidents, but the law is in their favor, so they are not at fault.
Statistics say Woody can’t develop a young PG.
