Los Angeles--At the end of a long road trip and with a roster depleted by injuries, the Hawks gave a pretty-good-if-sloppy effort against the Clippers but couldn’t make plays at winning times and finished the trip 2-4.
The Hawks have to get it together because Boston is creeping up from behind in the East.

From the AP recap:
Atlanta is 68-57 since Larry Drew replaced Mike Woodson as coach at the start of last season. It is the second-best start by any of the 12 coaches the Hawks have had since the 1965-66 campaign, when the franchise was in St. Louis. The only one with a better record through his first 125 games was Lenny Wilkens (76-49).

Wow !
So if Kirk hits that FT or Gallinari misses that “3″
LD would have singlehandedly won it ?”
No, but if LD doesn’t inexplicably go away from Josh in the post and waste two crunch time possessions running iso-Joe, it never comes down to a Gallinari 3 or a Kirk missed FT.

Latest rumor is that Dwight has flip-flopped AGAIN and is considering firing agent Dan Fegan and will waive his ETO in the morning.
Hawks should trade Joe to ORL for Hedo and JJ Redick. Nobody else is going to take on Joe’s contract, and ORL has no other way to upgrade while sending out Hedo’s contract. The Hawks would save $60m and be out from under Joe’s contract in two years instead of four. Also, ORL would be in no cap position to try to sign Josh as a free agent after next season.

Clips had our number tonight and the guys have to be tired after Tuesday’s game. No excuses though. Everyone has a compacted schedule. Now they come back into our time zone after being out for how long? Hopefully, they will get some rest, have a good practice and be ready for the Wizards on Friday.

Our inside presence in this game was almost non-existent, which left our chances of winning rather slim when our jump shots weren’t falling consistently. Josh couldn’t get much going inside once the Clippers started playing him physically and put Kenyon Martin on him. Griffin is not a very good defender at this point in his career, but from an athletic standpoint, Josh was unable to outclass him and score using pure athleticism too, which is something he can do against a lot of PFs. Also, Martin is another very athletic player who is a great defender at his position, and you could see that his pressure bothered Josh enough to make Josh pass the ball out of the post in the quickly in the second half. The Clipper guards did a good job of pressuring Josh with help defense too. That led to Josh playing primarily on the perimeter.
Once that happened, we had almost no interior presence on the offensive end. Joe was being defended by Butler and Simmons, players of similar size to Joe, which took away his typical size advantage in the post as well, making him play more off-the-dribble, and as a catch-and-shoot. player. The results were mixed. Teague also was timid at shooting from outside (as usual) and hesitated to get to the basket knowing Jordan, Martin, and Evans were there ready to either block the shot or give a hard contest/foul.
Surely, the Hawks were tired, but the physicality from the Clippers (particularly the second unit) seemed to take it’s toll on the Hawks as well. By the end of the game, they looked tired and very perimter-oriented. This loss was not surprising.
With all of the injuries that the Hawks currently have, the Clippers were clearly at a talent advantage. Not only did they have an overall advantage inside with Griffin, Martin, Evans, and Jordan, but they also had a guy who could stay with Teague on the perimeter in Bledsoe, and a tough defender in Butler whom Joe could not bully in the post. This was just a tough matchup for the Hawks, and it made it much worse than Mo Williams went off.
It’s time to move on to the next one.

The good news for the Hawks is that the Wizards are coming to town and the schedule is lightening up. Aside from a few tough opponents here and there, the rest of the season looks very promising for the Hawks in terms of quality-of-opponents. The Hawks have a good chance of keeping the 6 seed or moving up to even the 5 seed if they play solid basketball for the remainder of the season. You can get away with a lot of sub-par play in the East and still make the playoffs, so the Hawks are still in a pretty good position to move up in the standings a bit.

Gee, I some how thinks that he couid not have developed his own team. Hes just living off of what Woodson built. There is no improvement. Just an continuation of what Mike Woodson built. In fact if the Woodson trending in terms of games won each year were measure, then it would be more obvious that the hawks are no longer rising but actually trending backwards.
Woodson did a phenomonal Job with the Hawks, and Drew is just reaping the benefits of woodsons work. To add to that Woodson never had the bench that Drew has to his luxury.

You might want to back off on that trade request just go to youtube and look up a bunch of retard stuff Mcgee does.
Plus Zaza might not be the best Center, but he got Heart and Pride which is rare these days.
As for Mcgee he belongs on the Harlem Globetrotters that’s how he plays and it’s not a joke.
Now I need to make something clear on my last post. I’m not big fan of Ariza or Okafor, but the reality is this
Ariza > Marvin and Okafor(non-injury) > Jason and The Damp.
Would you rather the line up be Zaza, JC, and Dampier
or Zaza, Okafor, and Kaman?

The Hawks had their chances at Miami, Detroit, and Denver, so those losses were very frustrating. However, I dont feel too bad about last night’s loss. Injuries, back to back, high altitude the night before…I am willing to look the other way.
However, Hawks have to turn it up now. We cannot afford to be the 7th or 8th seed, because that is a guaranteed 1st round loss (imo). Although…would a 1st round loss lead to LD’s 3rd year option not being picked up?
Najeh,
How bad have the Hawks been (players and coaches) for LD’s (68-57) .544 win% to be the best start since Lenny?

FTPB,
Northyde,
Amazing the amount of attention JJ gets sometimes..
I think Josh should be the focal point of the team’s offense. When that happens, it will be interesting to see how he responds when teams give him all the defensive attention.
I do think he would handle it better than JJ does, because Josh is a good passer, especially out of double teams, while JJ would do his tricky dribble routine, and then pass the ball with less than 10 seconds left on the clock.

Josh is just now showing the discipline to be more of a focal point. I’m still not sold… ponly playing .500 ball in this new design.
He should do a better job of passing out of double teams because of his athleticism to jump and pass over outstretched hands AND because Joe will movewhen he sees Josh doubled, while Josh often stayed flat-footed on the perimeter when Joe is doubled. Sometimes a receiver needs to get open for the QB, not always the QB’s fault.

Under new CBA, can you trade injured players? If so, here is a three-way trade (Atlanta-Boston-N.O.) that works for everyone (Hollinger’ analysis predicts increased win totals for all three teams):
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7w9jc3w
Maybe N.O. throws in one of those nice 1st round picks to entice Boston to take on Okafor’s contract. If so, how does anyone say no to this deal? (Keep in mind, Boston is not going to compete for a championship this year, so the trade is more of a trade that allows them to put themselves in a good position to compete next year. Also, N.O. wants to get off salaries. And this trade will make Atlanta better this year and probably next year.)

Los Angeles would give up one of its two 2012 first-round draft picks in the deal and use its $8.9 million trade exception, acquired when it traded Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks in December, to absorb Beasley’s approximate $6.3 million salary..
Sixers trade;
Nick Young is expected to be put into the 76ers’ $2.7 million trade exception the team received as part of the trade in January that sent forward Marreese Speights to the Grizzlies..
It’s good to see teams having discussions and using their exceptions. When was the last time the Hawks used any exceptions? Mid-level, Bi-annual, the Childress exception, and there is probably more I have missed…SMH

Okay let me go through this list right now just make a few points clear.
1. DERON WILLIAMS or D-will is not coming to the ATL Hawks it’s been said numerous times that he’ll probably land in Dallas.
2. If we get Dwight Howard he will be a rental and as a matter of fact he’s saying he’ll stay just for how long don’t know.
3. Rajon Rondo can’t shoot yeah that’s a big thing a PG is suppose to know how to do.
4. Javale Mcgee is playing boneheaded basketball he shows off tooooo much again this ain’t the harlem globetrotters.
Our best bet for getting rid of Marvin Williams is the New Orleans Hornets not going to lie at first I wasn’t so big on trading for Kaman, but then with this rash of injuries and Marvin reverting to his old ways even without Horford or Joe in the lineup at times. It has come time something needs to be done.
Telling you right now Don’t give up on Jeff Teague he is a future at least good PG not going to say superstar, but at least way above average PG you’ve seen what he can do if LD is not on his back and same for Mike Woodson.
I’d send Al Horford and Marvin to New Orleans in a heartbeat right now. Get us Ariza and Kaman that’s a good straight up trade.
Or give us both Kaman and Okafor plus Ariza and that draft pick we’ll need it.

Truth though I’m more interested on Fab Melo at #21 if he enters that is, and I know it’d be a reach, but he’d be insurance in case Kaman and Okafor both depart and then we’d at least have Two capable C’s on our team something that’s never really happened lol.

I still expect Hawks to try and free up a little salary to get under luxury tax line. Maybe Hinrich + TMac (since LD clearly doesn’t want him on the team) for Beasley + Tolliver. We get scoring punch and another big body while T’Wolves get a replacement for Rubio and another facilitator in TMac. All have expiring deals so they become rentals to help each team with injury concerns. And Hawks shed around $500k in the process.

I believe the the deal was Kirk + filler for Kaman. The latest word is the Hornets will take a 2nd round pick now. I believe Kaman’s base salary this year is 14M, however that will be pro-rated down to less than 8M with the season half over.
That’s the key for Sund because, moving Kirk’s pro-rated 8M should be a little less that 4M and the rest could be absorbed as a TPE and, get under the slightly above cap to avoid any luxury tax taboo. Or, just send Kirk straight up with filler from the bench to ride out the season.
Or, finally, just sen a 2nd round pick and gain the full TPE of about 7M (half Kaman’s salary). Or, just do nothing and get healthy! Which is dumber than dumb because we have not been healthy all year and are loaded with old, worn down vets.

Also, hawksville, one more thing. Kaman would not be a #1 scoring options on this team. He is probably asked to take 21 shots as the only BIG on a gutted team.
In Atlanta, Josh takes those shots inside and outside. His job would be to rebound, defend and score inside where he is efficient. I would keep perspective, when using a one game sample as statistical trend.

Romney Cakes!
I posted last week that Dwight was staying put. That guy craves attention and has ruined all 29 foolish teams not on his wish list by thwarting any trade moves.
Any teams waiting to improve their rosters by, watching the ball stop on offense and not moving their feet on defense, are getting beat on that play. Both the offensive play and defensive play will net zero points and, that rebound is a 50-50 toss up depending on who blocks out for the board.
That my cohorts is ugly basketball. The Nets will suffer the most of all teams. They stopped their presses while waiting for the new “Big Baby”.
Meanwhile, back at The Ponderosa – we get a can of beans with no camp fire to keep them warm. What a bunch of losers The ASKG are.

The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired point guard Ramon Sessions from the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of a multi-player deal that will bring the Cavs the Lakers’ 2012 first-round pick, according to league sources.
The Cavs also will send young wing player Christian Eyenga to the Lakers and veteran forward Luke Walton will be going to the Cavs. The Lakers’ will keep their draft pick this year if they miss the playoffs. As part of the deal, the Lakers also will have the right to swap first-round draft position in 2013 with the Miami Heat’s first round pick, which the Cavs own..

OB, Travis Outlaw received a similar deal from NJ. San Antonio gave something close to RJ and now are trying to cut him loose for a comparably overpriced, injured and attitudinal Captain Jack. Sund isn’t the only GM to make that mistake, in fact, my guess is that Marvin’s deal is probably an average contract for a starting SF NOT in his rookie contract. Luke Walton makes over $6M and hasn’t played in 1.5 seasons. Al Thornton (beloved on this blog for some strange reason) and Julian Wright are unemployed because GMs are only now beginning to realize the insignificance of the SF position in today’s game.

What owner worth his salt would, pay a SG Calvin Johnson type money – when he has NO true center. That’s the equivalent of signing a WR when you have NO QB to get him the ball, in reverse.
Sure a SG can throw the ball inside, but to who? A small center who can’t draw a double, play with his back to the basket, post up anyone or dribble in the paint? All our guy can do is throw it back outside to Josh.

Mary, from a professional standpoint, there is no good reason why Marvin would object to a trade. He won’t make any less money, could potentially land with a ateam that will involve him more in the offense or give him a better chance to win, and if he is traded, he can’t be amnestied by the new team. Or said differently, what is so special about the Hawks that Marvin should be begging Sund to let him stay?

vava,
You’re right that trades do not necessarily gaurantee improvement. I agree 100%. But, with that said, this team, as currently constructed, is not a legitimate threat, IMO, to advance any deeper into the playoffs than we have in years past.
We’ve been throwing the same group out there year after year hoping that this will be the year, and it hasn’t panned out yet, and it isn’t gonna be any different this year.
At this point, I’m more inclined to follow new faces play worst just for the sake of watching something new. I’m tired of the same ish day after day, year after year. It’s like choosing to watch the same average movie 50 times vs. watching a new movie, even if the new movie isn’t any better, and possibly worse than that movie you’ve watched 50 times.
I’m more inclined to watch something new and actually *hope* it turns out to be better off for the franchise than sit here and watch the same ish night after night and remain hopeless…

Talking Dead!
Biggie Lou, hot thunder … Your theory of an increased air-borne infection does make more sense now. Typically a virus is either air-borne or not unless the virus is mutating itself and getting stronger as it spread.
However in this case, the crew has been incubated by being sequestered on the farm. Shane and the farm prisoner are the only two that were’nt scratched, it seems and they turned rabid somehow. So, in this instance air-borne infections make sense and does answer the query.
Now about the escape plot coming up next. That horde of walkers looked to be about 30 walkers, (can’t really tell). The prisioner boy did say his camp had about 30 people and were approximately 5 miles away so, it is probably them and that amount coming outa’ them woods.
Remember, before Shane killed Otis … Herschel was ropimg the walkers with an apparatus of a pole with a rope for it’s noose and, guiding them into the barn. Once there, the blonde haired, suicidal daughter was throwing live chickens in there to keep them fed? As sick as that was it was working and Rick’s crew had no idea they were in there for many days.
Here’s my point: Rick or Glenn will bait them into the barn and bolt the lock, “let them eat cake” burn the barn down and get the hella on. Some of the crew may die, but the core will survive. Aslo, don’t forget … Herschel was storing food in the basement for the future/next scene. Something will happen in the basement too.
What’s your take?

Could be. Yet, I think it would make a better ending if they were alive. It will give an opportunity to introduce new characters since many of current ones are going to get their flesh ripped apart.
I agree that something will occur in the basement, but I do not believe they will trap them in the barn. Things will happen to fast for them to come up with a plan, and when everything seems hopeless, the other camp comes to save them.
Those meat sacks were moving pretty fast though from the forest. Maybe they have been working out? Also, why is there a Hawks game on Sunday? Now I have to wait till 11 again, sh!t!

dmb,
I remember when Marvin had his surgery, LD (and MC too, I think) was very complimentary about how Marvin looked better and was playing better. But as some of us predicted, his surgery would not stop him from being clumsy. And being clumsy leads to his stumbling, bumbling, fumbling, and getting knocked around (and blocked) by other players. So no surprise, he is banged up again.
Rick has not done a good job of asset management, so the Hawks will be left out of trade deadline deals (imo).
Is anyone surprised by the ASG selling another pick for cash to help pay LT bill (assuming the rumor is true)? LD and the players all have their faults, but the problem starts at the top. ASG.
Selling a second round pick isnt a big deal to us anyway, because Hawks dont know how to choose and develop good second round picks SMH.

Net Gain or Loss?
I guess losing the Thrashers also equals a loss in Arena revenues as well. The 8 feces throwing orangutans can’t even afford to keep the scoreboards lit up, so, how can they fire up a fan base. But hey, we can always go down there and support the brand new 2M full service RED Restaurant and buy some beef steaks! (she smirks)
Now we clearly see the true management goal all along was to “get money” one way or another. It was NEVER to win a championship.
Why trade away a low dollar rookie 2nd round pick, when you don’t even know what that pick was gonna’ be? They could have done that an hour before the draft pick came up on draft night. This un-vetted broke azz ownership group can’t scrape up a few dollars between the 8 of them? What a sad documentary to behold.
How can these players even stay motivated when they already know the guillotine is being sharpened in round 2 for an early decapitation. Well cohorts, at least we have a game plan and a Dwight stopper on our bench, or shall I saw on the trainers rehab table. The only bews MC tweeted was Jason is cleared for contact.
We may as well logg off here now and watch some college ball to see the players we will never draft nor develop.
