Warriors at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread

  • Joe Johnson (knee) is in the starting lineup. Larry Drew said he will monitor how Joe feels to determine how much he will play. “I know with tendinitis the best thing for it is rest,” Drew said. “Hopefully these days off will benefit him.”
  • Drew said he doesn’t ever plan to make Joe a healthy scratch for the sake of giving him days off: “At this stage of the season, I don’t think it will be a case of giving him days to rest. If we do anything, we will cut his minutes down. Since the season is still in full bloom, we just have to grind it out with the way the season is. What we are cutting back on is the practice. Those are the recovery days now.”
  • Vladimir Radmanovic (ill) is out. “He’s had some problems with his stomach,” Drew said. “He missed shootaround, came to the arena to warm up and it started bothering him again. So we went ahead and just sent him home.”
  • Zaza Pachulia (calf) is active.
  • Erick Dampier’s second 10-day contract expired so the Hawks have to sign him for the rest of the season to keep him. They have yet to do so but said they expect to complete a deal tomorrow. Dampier is at the arena tonight.
  • No word on if Al Horford (chest) was cleared to begin rehab.
  • Jason Collins (elbow) said he’s scheduled to begin rehab Friday.
  • Stephen Curry (foot) is out for the Warriors.

Ain’t dat da troof, Rod, LOL.

Monta has that “post you up at 18 ft.” thing going on like Walt Frazier had in his prime.

David Lee > Josh Smith

Josh simply should have better numbers.

GS has better shooters than this team, especially at the FT line.

Facts- Josh isn’t the 2nd best player in the southeast division. But I can show you games from this season where Wade has shot less than 30% from the field also. And I can show games where Joe has shot less than 30% from the field as well. If you think one night (which was horrible all around) makes a player terrible, than you need to look at more games and box scores than just the Hawks. I will say though, there are only three players in the division who I would take over Josh (Lebron, Wade, and Dwight). But don’t put words in my mouth.

Golden State 16/17 FTs, Hawks 16/26 FTs. Hawks had 9 extra chances from the line and missed every one of them.

O’Brien,

“Last year, ATL beat GS 103-93. but your boy Jamal went 2-10, and scored 5 points in 32 minutes. In the other game, Hawks win 95-79, but Jamal goes 3-9, scoring 9 points in 27 minutes.

Hawks did win both games, but it wasnt because of Jamal’s contribution. Its hard to win when you miss 10 FT”

That has nothing to do with the question. Will we win at least 2 games in the 2nd round of the playoffs? If not, we are not better without Jamal.

“That has nothing to do with the question. Will we win at least 2 games in the 2nd round of the playoffs? If not, we are not better without Jamal.”

The real question is, “We we make the playoffs?” An acceptable alternative would be “Will we win a playoff game?”

Your question about the 2nd round is irrelevant. We won’t be there.

Ra'mon

Rod, the only way you can say if we don’t win 2 games in the 2nd round of the playoffs will be because Jamal isn’t here, is if we play the exact same teams that we played last year, with exact same roster. Chicago is deeper this season with Rip Hamilton come playoffs. And the Hawks wouldn’t have won two games against Miami last season. So if they face them this season, its not the same control. The Hawks are better WITHOUT Jamal AND Kirk. The backcourt started playing poorly when Kirk came back.

18 points – 4 rebounds – 5 assists for Jordan tonight

10 points – 5 rebounds ( 4 offensive ) on 5 – 5 FG shooting for Faried . . . oh yeah, he’s only played 9 minutes so far, and the Denver game is at halftime.

slim, I’ll go on record for March and say 10-9. Could be worse, but that’s my prediction.

Dwayne Wade went 4-17 against Atlanta, and 4-16 against Chicago, with most of the attempts being jumpers. This isn’t to say Josh is better than Wade, because he’s not in any means. But every player have bad shooting nights! Chris Bosh has shot under 30% 4 times this season. And this is Josh’s 3rd game shooting under 30% this season. Other all stars do it all the time.

The Hawks arent goin anywhere until they send Josh, Joe and Marvin outta town. But NOBODY wants either one of them.

So thanks to management, we are stuck with a team that will make it to the playoffs every year and fold in the 1st or 2nd round each time.

Similar to the Garnett led Timberwolves of the late 90’s. This organization will make just enough money to put in their pockets and chalk it up.

Man i hate being a fan of any Atlanta sports team. Its so true…THE WORST SPORTS CITY IN AMERICA…PROBABLY THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!

LOL @ people talking about Jamal. They do realize that if the bench got 15 total shots in the game, Jamal is taking 12 of those shots. And with his schizophrenic azz, he could go 8 – 12 or 2 – 12. Normally, he’d be 5 – 12 . . missing 6 in a row during a critical point in the game.

Wouldn’t mind Faried + Jordan Crawford either.

Or, for that matter, Faried + Greivis Vasquez, who got taken one pick after Crawford and is currently putting up some pretty decent numbers (for New Orleans, but still).

This team mismanages draft picks worse than any team I can remember. Worse than trading five of them for a deep threat WR who isn’t going to catch any deep passes because the QB can’t throw them.

Far be it for me to defend DWade, but when he goes 4-17, at least he’s attacking the rim. Josh settled for his jumper 12 times tonight. He made 2. And I mean SETTLED.

Ra’Mon . . . stop it.

You know why people bytch and moan about Josh shooting jumpers?

BECAUSE HE’S OUR POWER FORWARD.

And since he doesn’t have Kevin Love’s shot, he shouldn’t be gunning away from the outside like that. I’d much rather for him to go to the line, draw 5 shooting fouls, and go 5 – 10 from the FT line, than for him to launch 5 jumpshots.

2 – 11 on jumpshots tonight for him. You can’t keep defending that. Not when he’s our PF and would be better off rebounding JJ’s bricks off the rim and putting them back in the basket, than for him to be launching jumper after jumper.

I’m convinced more than ever that ownership/mgmt have written off this season.

I’m convinced that mgmt has told LD to play those players with the high salary significant minutes because its bad enough they overpaid these dudes ..but they’ll be damned If they watch $50 million per yr on the bench..good or bad play !

Tracy is just a casuality of LD’s bad coaching..and he really has no recourse except to request to be traded or waived ..which I doubt the Hawks will do because they are just so incompetent.

“Dwayne Wade went 4-17 against Atlanta, and 4-16 against Chicago, with most of the attempts being jumpers. This isn’t to say Josh is better than Wade, because he’s not in any means. But every player have bad shooting nights!”

The difference is that Wade quite frequently makes those shots, whereas Josh does not make those shots with anywhere near the same level of frequency.

I am probably as big of a Josh supporter on this blog as anyone other than you and maybe Leuer’s mom, but he played a terrible game tonight on both ends of the floor that his stat line doesn’t quite do enough justice. David Lee cannot guard him if he makes him work, and yet he bailed him out over and over again. It’s not so much the fact that he took a bunch of jumpers as much as when he took those jumpers. If he is going to catch and shoot open jumpers in rhythm, I can live with a few of those. But so many of his jumpers today were in iso situations or situations where he could have set up a teammate with a good pass. And to compound the problem he didn’t play a very good defensive game either. Just a bad game from him.

Totally agree with Najeh’s 10:25 post

And with all that, Josh was still +8 and the Hawks’ starters (except Marvin) were all in the plus. That should tell you how winnable this game was. Even as bad as Joe and Josh both played, this game was right there for the taking if the bench hadn’t come in and gotten toasted in the late 1st/early 2nd quarters. Kirk got his ass kicked by Nate Robinson, Green got his ass kicked by Klay Thompson, Ekpe Udoh manhandled everyone the Hawks threw at him, and even Brandon Rush did a good job on D and on the glass, even when matched up on Joe.

That sequence when the Warriors extended the lead from 5 to 15 in the late 1st/early 2nd is the reason the Hawks lost.

Bad ft shooting and IJ playing just 6 minutes are why this team lost. Lee and Ellis combined for 46 but they needed 48 shots to do it.

Josh needs to improve his ft shooting or it’s time to trade him. It’s no use playing in the post if he is only going to make 50% of his free throws.
