Warriors at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread

  • Joe Johnson (knee) is in the starting lineup. Larry Drew said he will monitor how Joe feels to determine how much he will play. “I know with tendinitis the best thing for it is rest,” Drew said. “Hopefully these days off will benefit him.”
  • Drew said he doesn’t ever plan to make Joe a healthy scratch for the sake of giving him days off: “At this stage of the season, I don’t think it will be a case of giving him days to rest. If we do anything, we will cut his minutes down. Since the season is still in full bloom, we just have to grind it out with the way the season is. What we are cutting back on is the practice. Those are the recovery days now.”
  • Vladimir Radmanovic (ill) is out. “He’s had some problems with his stomach,” Drew said. “He missed shootaround, came to the arena to warm up and it started bothering him again. So we went ahead and just sent him home.”
  • Zaza Pachulia (calf) is active.
  • Erick Dampier’s second 10-day contract expired so the Hawks have to sign him for the rest of the season to keep him. They have yet to do so but said they expect to complete a deal tomorrow. Dampier is at the arena tonight.
  • No word on if Al Horford (chest) was cleared to begin rehab.
  • Jason Collins (elbow) said he’s scheduled to begin rehab Friday.
  • Stephen Curry (foot) is out for the Warriors.

No surprise that Najeh predicted the Hawks would win by 6. He still insists they’re the best team in ATL. Not that that’s saying much.

This is a clown show. Top to bottom. Who has time for this chit seriously?

34.4% shooting on the night
53 rebounds to the warriors.

Josh Smith is the smallest softest power forward out there. Size matters and something is wrong with whomever trots this lineup out and rob fans.

But I’ll let y’all figure that chit out.

Can’t remember whether the Hawks have had a worse loss this season, but this has to be near the top.

The plus/minus tells the story. The Warriors built up the lead in the 2nd quarter primarily against the bench, and the starters spent the rest of the game trying to cut into the lead.

20 minutes for Willie Green, 6 minutes for T-Mac. 11 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 turnovers, 1 steal, 1 block, 4/12 shooting for the ENTIRE BENCH COMBINED. Zero boards for Ivan. 4 points for Green in those 20 minutes.

The play of the game for me was when the Hawks isolated for Smith, and he settled for a jumper. And on the next possession, Lee was isolated on Smith, and took it right to the rim and scored on him.

Oh well. It’s party time for me. I’ll be in Charlotte in about 22 hours for the CIAA Tournament. Day and night parties galore, even if I do have a touch of bronchitis.

Not even going to think about the Hawks after tonight, until Monday.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the locker room. The only friends LD has on this team is Hinrich and Jerry Stackhouse

I could see Josh screaming at Teague about how he’s a ball hog. I can see Teague looking to Joe to protect him and Joe just saying nothing. Tracy didn’t even shower he just left because he doesn’t want to see LD. The rest of the Hawks are just sitting around listening to their ipods wondering If they will get a table at the Waffle House..

Well the wannabe ALLSTAR went 5 for 20. He is one terrific player and has a serious Basketball IQ. The HAWKS can never be without him because only a basketball genius would keep shooting and dropping nothing. The HAWKS are lucky as all get out to have the great Josh Smith.

Yeah, slim, they blew my ever so pessimistic 5-8. Geez, folks on here were saying 10-3, 9-4, nutty stuff without Horford, though Zaza has played with a great deal of heart.

And Josh, for the most part, has shone since Horford got hurt, but tonight?….eh……..

He was 2-12 outside the paint, and most were NOT in short clock. He settled. Over and over.

Ra'mon

Wow, I didn’t watch the game, had family Bible study. But from the box score, Josh had a terrible night! There’s no reason for him to 11 jumpers when he’s having an off night on his jumper, especially when GS has no one who’s dominant protecting the rim. There’s no way I could take up for him on a night when he does that. Josh has had bad shooting nights this season (like every player). But this is the first game that I can say that the Hawks lost because of Josh. And without seeing the game, its still easy to see that 9 missed jumpers lost the game without question! If Josh says anything in the post interview about ‘we’ instead of ‘I-Josh Smith’, he will make a terrible night even worse. If Josh starts off shooting 2/3 for 5 jumpers than I can understand if he keeps shooting them. But if you look up and you are 1 for 6 on jumpers, show some control and stop taking that shot for the night.

And whomever tried to trade for David Lee during the fantasy season, it’s games like this which illustrate exactly why I don’t trade dude.

22 points – 12 rebs – 2 blks ( which is rare for him ) – 4-4 FTs.

Other than the 9 – 21 FG shooting ( he’ll usually be 10 or 11 – 21 ), dude was solid all night.

Rod,

Last year, ATL beat GS 103-93. but your boy Jamal went 2-10, and scored 5 points in 32 minutes. In the other game, Hawks win 95-79, but Jamal goes 3-9, scoring 9 points in 27 minutes.

Hawks did win both games, but it wasnt because of Jamal’s contribution. Its hard to win when you miss 10 FT

I think we actually competed in this game, at least we didn’t lay down after being down 10 after halftime, ofcourse if we hit more of the free throws we win the game, but once again the biggest concern as always is the rebounding, which has been the story of the month of february

Najeh Davenpoop

I am not going to blame Kirk entirely for the bench sucking, because he is not the only cause by a long shot (LD’s complete ineptitude when it comes to managing the bench is the main reason), but Kirk had yet another bad game and the bench continues to play markedly worse after Kirk’s arrival compared to before his arrival. The Kirk to the Lakers trade cannot happen soon enough.
