ZaZa as a starter – 20 games, 30.0 mpg, 7.8 ppg, and 7.5 rbg. Not bad from your backup. And he’s stayed pretty healthy to this point also. I think ZaZa would be starting for quite a few teams in the NBA. I would like to see how we run with:
ZaZa
Al
Josh
JJ
Teague
I think that may be a good starting lineup, and help us with rebounding. That’s when Al gets back of course.

Ra’mon – I think the Heat will be the #1 seed, so we need the #3 seed to avoid the Heat. But I think if healthy, we can beat either the Heat or the Bulls. I would rather play the Heat actually, because of the Bulls depth, especially up front, they just seem to kill us. The Heat have an older bench, no depth at C. If we get Al back and healthy, I like our chances.
Depending on Dwight and the Magic, I think the Sixers may drop down to the 6th seed. I would be very concerned about that matchup if we were a #3 seed. Pacers also. It ought to be interesting nonetheless.
But we did play the Heat and the Bulls pretty good earlier in the year when we played them.

stevew the only problem with that is i dont think the hawks have a center to come off the bench if we did that. not sure of it though, seems like i remember reading it, maybe here, that someone suggested they needed another big.

Sorry, but when a team has a disappointing month, does it really matter who is king of the pigs? I don’t know, it kind of sounds like someone bumping up whoever is the stat stuffer in Charlotte. Someone has to lead a team in various categories. No one too much gave Love credit when he was putting up record double-doubles on a horrific squad. He is only getting respect this year because the team is playing solid ball. Josh has had some stretches when he has been at his career best but overall, I’m not sure that this season is much different than previous years. If there are three tiers of All-Stars (the no-brainer, fan-elected guys who are marching toward the HOF; the guys who are consistent year-after-year like a Steve Smith, Dikembe or JJ; bubble All-Stars like Kevin Willis who may make an All-Star appearance or two over a long and productive career), then I think Josh is clearly in the third tier. But that has been tru for the past 2-3 seasons. A “bubble All-Star”.

Al Horford said he hasn’t begun his rehab yet and that was 3 weeks ago. Then again today he has yet to start and still has no timetable.
Horford is still in the recovery phase from his surgery. He’s not expected back until mid-April at the earliest.
He’s not coming back this year man.

Hawks should just hope to finish 8th, which is what management wants, to get into the playoffs healthy. Our best chance is for the Hawks to feel like they have no chance against Miami or Chicago, whichever finishes as the number one seed.
Remember when we as a fan base felt like the Hawks had no chance against Boston. What did they do, they rose up to take the Celtics to 7 games. The areana was sold out for those games. All we as fan want is for them to play that same way again…reality of now is that they are not a good playoff team and no one fears them… which could be our only real advantage.
Unless they drop out of the playoff picture all together, which they are capable of doing!

Big Dog, but to get there you pay a prorated portion of $4M this year, then pay it again for the luxury tax, then factor in that you don’t get a share of the luxury tax dollars that other teams are paying. You just paid somewhere from $5-$10M this year just to save $4M next year (and have a backup PG rather than Marvin).

Newkid,
The Sessions and one of Cleveland’s 2nd round picks for Marvin sounds good and makes sense. Cleveland has shown interest in Marvin and maybe still wants him. With this trade, Kirk becomes even more valuable for trade. What about Kirk and Sessions for Kaman?
The Hawks would rid themselves of Marvin and his contract. Rent Kaman for the rest of the year and between Marvin’s and Sessions’ contracts the Hawks would clear up 8 mil for next year’s cap!
Sund, help us out and make the trades!

Look at Jermaine’s numbers advanced #s True Shooting%, rebounds, and then injuries. He’s been injured for 2 years. And you can see why Ainge wants to blow it up.
Maybe both KG and Dwight would want to come here for a cut in pay?
Rondo ($11mil)
Joe ($18mil)
Smith ($12mil)
KG ($8.5mil)
Dwight ($18mil)
Smith is due an extension. Give him $12 mil + incentives. Seriously. Every round we make it out of = incentives.

Bring home the Atlanta Celtics. That idea makes too much sense in a trade. Trying to rebuild around Horford in the same conference as MIA? Makes zero sense.
Horf will be 30 in a few years. Will he be a 20ppg scorer by then? What are we pinning our fortunes on this guy for. Look at his skillset. He’s Odom minus the handles and 3 point shot. Houdini act every year and somehow gets injured every year.

Ra’mon,
Didn’t josh tell ld to not worry about him, and he will find his own offense (or something like that)?
If josh would be in the post more, I think he gets more shots (despite the fact we don’t have a pg to get him the ball consistently).
For one, he may get more offensive rebounds and put backs, plus be in better position overall to take shots.
IMO, josh is his own worst enemy.

Al is not trying to get well. He is not a hard worker, did very little in the off season(s). Disappears in the playoffs and is a “me ” oriented player. His skill set? what skill set? After all these years we still have to stop the fluid motion of the offense to get Al involved. Al is mechanical, Slow and predictable.
Defensively? Al’s best defensive play is to wait for Josh to block or alter a shot while applying defense , then scoop up the rebound that was the result of an effort from Josh on another hard worker.
What Al brings to the table? A persistent whine about playing Josh’s position.
Career numbers?
12pts 9rbs 1blk
Playoffs?
10pts,7rbs,1blk

O’Brien, if your kids suggest something to you, at the end of the day, is it not your decision if its done or not? Also, I don’t think Josh would get more attempts if he was in the post more. Woody’s last season, Josh was in the post more, and still didn’t get many shot attempts, because this franchise have an infatuation with shoot first guards (pg and sg’s). And also against teams such as SAS and LAL, if Josh gets the ball in post, compared to on the high post, or perimeter where he can use his quickness, he’s going to be at a disadvantage. As I said, despite Josh’s jumpers, he still leads the team in field goal percentages, and has NEVER approach Antoine Walker or Al Harrington’s numbers in that area. If we had a Steve Nash or even D. Williams who knew how to get 9 assists a game, Josh would have no excuse not to be in the post more.

I don’t know why, but in such a short season, the fact that Al came to camp out of basketball shape (compared to the rest of the team) speaks volumes to me. One thing about Joe or Josh, is they’ve never came out of shape and not ready to go. Josh was heavy the past two seasons, but it wasn’t because he wasn’t in shape. He was heavy to play the pf position with more strength (a common mistake, thinking more weight means more strength). And Joe would hit the weight room some summers too much also. But the two of them were always in good shape. However, the 3rd captain reports in a season where he had even more time than normal to get in shape, out of shape. And the fact that he got married doesn’t mean anything, because a work out only takes 3-4 hours a day total. In my mind, that made him more than trade-able to me.

I tried to catch the two of them standing beside one another;
but I was only able to see the tail end of the 2nd half.
The sizes I listed were from all the sources I could find.
The only reliable measurement will be DraftXpress

I must admit Withey looks lanky running around out there.
He moves well for a 7 ftr also.
Gonna keep my eye on him.
He was moving alot better on that ankle tonight.

Final Thought;
Thomas Robinson is a Player !
6-7; 6-8; 6-9; 6-10; 6-11… it don`t matter.
The kid can play.
T.R. goes after and collects Rebounds !
That is what we need.
Yes::::
myself as much or more than anyone;
We Need a Big – Legit – 7 ftr.
But; not just to have one.
We need a Legit Big / Center that can Play / Produce.
In the Draft; in my opinion; Thomas Robinson;
is the most NBA ready player available in this yrs draft.
Regardless of size.
One more thing.
I believe Josh will be traded.
With Thomas Robinson we would not miss a beat.

In my mind, that made him more than trade-able to me..
Even in college, Al was always thought of as one of the hardest working guys on the team, and the same thing since he has been with the Hawks. Never any issues, never any blowups, just a blue collar guy who shows up to work everyday. But he shows up to camp in shape (just not basketball shape), and that makes him more than trade-able to you?
I could not disagree more. Plus was he not ready to go game 1? So what’s the issue here?
vava74

OB,
Al’s blue collar stance is no longer a guaranteed thing.
Last year he was given so much space that he completely fell in love with the jumper and had a generally soft approach to the game.
This year I was actually encouraged with the fact that he seemed to be realizing that his open looks from the elbow were not there and was looking a bit more interested in banging.
However, we did not have enough of a sample to be sure.

vava74…you talk like Al “falling in love with his jumper” was a bad thing. didn’t he improve his FG%? yes, he should defend the paint more aggressively, but i can’t tell him to stop taking open set shots, especially when he’s making them. this is not a josh smith situation.
