Johnson out of All-Star Game with knee injury

NEW YORK — Joe Johnson will not participate in the All-Star Game due to the tendinitis in his left knee. An MRI exam performed Tuesday in Atlanta showed no structural damage. The condition will cause Johnson to miss tonight’s game against the Knicks and Thursday’s home game against the Magic. According to the team, the six-time All-Star will be evaluated prior to the Hawks’ first game back from the five-day break, Feb. 29th vs. the Warriors.

The NBA announced that Celtics guard Rajon Rondo will replace Johnson.

“It is just tendinitis,” Hawks coach Larry Drew said. “From that standpoint, it’s just going to be on feel, how he feels with treatment and therapy. … For us, it’s important that he gets well to where it settles down from a pain standpoint.”

Johnson’s knee has been bothering him of late and he left Monday’s game against the Bulls in the third quarter before returning to Atlanta for the test.

Drew said the time off should help ease the condition.

“Particularly with tendinitis,” Drew said. “It’s just one of those things where you have to allow the knee to rest to where it is not getting the constant pounding.”

Willie Green will start in place of Johnson against the Knicks.

Johnson leads the Hawks in scoring at 17.6 points per game.

“sautee, not so sure. remember, when rick arrived, it was, we want to be elite, meaning winning 50 games a year. they had to change it to get into the tournament. they then got lucky to beat the magic to allow the spin of second round three years in a row. pr guys at work spinning like a sheep wool weaver.”

LOL doc, I’d love to see the spin they would try on the overall playoff record for this group:

15-26. Ouch.

If that doesn’t define their ceiling, nothing does. And I think they are one and done this year unless Horford makes an amazing recovery (which I do NOT foresee). And even if he DID return, unless he makes more of an impact than he did in last year’s playoffs, it’s one and done anyway.

I’m more than ready for mychalc’s “ka-boom”! I think this team is well beyond “tweaking”.

the real reason howard hasnt left is the host city would either be burning down or a ghost city for basketball. braves spring might be better received than the all star game. they have to have a star. it is as much a pr sham as the new orleans fiasco of a few years back that made me want to heave.

thought you would like the memory. it should have happened in the year of sameness but didnt.either that or like the mavs take their lumps and let jj walk since they were too stupid to trade him before his contract. some teams bid him up to make the hawks bite, to in the end make them weaker. needed to read Sun Zi’s Art of War. they may havehad no interest in him in the end, especially after jj’s faux pas pr statement

All this talk about size:

It’s about how a player is geared.

Iverson could have played the [4] if he had been 6-6.

It’s about toughness; Mental > physical.

I once saw a 6-1 guy play at an elite level Div III basketball;
within the past five years.

I’ve coached 6-0 & 6-1 post players
while 6-3 & 6-4 guys played on the wings.

I once had a 6-10 player who fancied himself a [2] guard.
*(that particular kid was a lottery talent) -went undrafted-

It’s all about the Head & the Heart ! !

That is why Rodman could guard:
everyone from:
Kevin Johnson Suns [1]
Reggie Miller Pacers [2]
Larry Bird Celts [3]
Karl Malone [4]
Shaq LAL [5]

Rodman true size = 6-6; 212 lbs.
And yes he had the head / he was a little bit nutty / but brilliant.
He studied the game was a true professional, and knew his craft.
A genius.
Okay; he was alot nutty !

The NYDN’s Frank Isola said this on the Mike Lupica Show (ESPN Radio) today
“I will say this. Brian Scalabrine, and as you know Mike he knows everything about the league, came over to me when the Bulls were in New York and said, ‘You know, you New York media guys keep writing about Dwight Howard but everyone in the league knows he’s going to Brooklyn.’

I said, ‘Really?’

He said, ‘Yeah absolutely, believe me that’ll be a done deal.’

And I’ve talked to some people from the Magic and that is NOT a lie. He wants to play in Brooklyn with Deron Williams. And I think the whole thing with Brooklyn and Adidas and everything else that’s involved. I think how we all had this feeling that Carmelo would be in New York, we’re all getting this feeling that Dwight will be in Brooklyn.”

If you would like to make a little money this would be the game to do it. Knicks by 7 is the line. Put whatever you have on the Knicks. The two gunners (Melo and JR Smith) might outscore us by themselves. Landry Fields is listed as 6′7 and Willie Green is 6′3. So our wonderful coach who knows we will already be outmatched on the boards, will start Wille Green at the 2 which will help make us more undersized. After we lose hw will again talk about effort and energy. LOL

Grandad, I won’t lie, I think the Hawks need more height also. But I also believe, even with this lineup, if we could substitute someone above average to play the SF position, than Josh and Al (along with Joe) could be very formidable with the right COACH. We complain about Josh not posting up enough. But one thing I’ve noticed about when Josh or Al post up is, there is only one or two players on this TEAM who know how to correctly FEED the post. As a former coach you know how important of a skill this is, that has been lost over the past years. To every great post player, I can show you a great passer who was on their team, feeding them correctly. How much of the shot clock does it seem it takes for the passer to get the ball to Josh or Al when they’re on the block? Mike Bibby was the last player on this team, who could really feed the block consistently. Al and Josh would go games at a time, without any one feeding them on the post, although they were there. When Jamal first got to the Hawks, Joe, Jamal, and Bibby stopped even looking at the post many times, when Al and Josh would have post position. And I can’t recall the last time I have seem the perimeter player feed the post, receive the kick out pass from the post, and then feed the post again for Al or Josh to score off of the REPOST.

That is why for years, I’ve thought Kidd (when he was in New Jersey) and Nash would bring out the best for this roster, because those two are the most gifted passers in the game. And each know exactly where to get the ball to the right person at the right time. Bibby never really possessed this, because going back to college, he was always a scoring pg, more than pass.

If Dwight ends up in Brooklyn, that will convince me that all the conspiracy theories that i keep hearing about the NBA must be true. Why is every star player, demanding to be traded to teams that don’t have a history of winning.I think i know the answer. To bad the Hawks are not owned by the Illuminati.

Here’s the Trade:

Stephen Jackson wants out Milwalkee and the Hawks need Marvin out of Atlanta. Jackson has a nasty attitude/swagger with a solid SF game exactly what the Hawks need. Jackson’s contract is 10 mil per yr with 1 year left. Marvin’s deal is 7.5 mil per yr with 2 years left. Marvin will never live up or down being 2nd overall pick. It would be best for both he and the Hawks to part ways.
The trade options are Jackson for Marvin, Collins, and probably Stackhouse in order for the salaries to match and keep the Hawks out of the luxury tax. The Bucks could buy out Collins and Stackhouse contracts or keep them. Both are expiring! Or Marvin and Kirk with the carrot being Kirk’s expiring 8 mil. The Hawks would have to accept additional player maybe the Luier kid and throw in one of their 2nd round picks.
This is a good deal for both teams with Marvin getting a fresh start with a chance to score. The Hawks get a team leader with a killer instinct who averages 15 – 18 points a game. Moreover, his presence would immediately help JJ’s game because it would reduce the double teams and put pressure premeter defenses because Jackson drives to the hoop and is a good FT shooter.
More than anything else, The Hawks need to make a move to A) improve the team, B) give the fans the belief that they want to win at mininium a ECF title and possibly a NBA title. The team in its present form is clearly not championship caliber.

Go Hawks

Ramon,

To your point, the sad thing is if we had someone to feed the post to Al, he doesn’t have any post moves. Joe and Josh sadly are the best post players on the team. T-Mac can pass well out of the post. Horford’s post game leaves a lot to be desired. He just has the set shot and can finish on the break, although he has looked like ZERO at times on the break throwing the ball off the glass and hitting no rim on a layup.

The only thing that Stephen Jackson would do with the Hawks, is try to hang out with Young Jeezy and try to further his rap career. Go to YouTube and type in %Stack 5″ or “Stack Jack”.

LOL he doesn’t even start in Milwaukee and is having an absolute horrible year. But people hate Marvin so much that they’ll take a bag of weed for him.

I think it’s ironic that it was Smith’s own teammate that got hurt, which possibly opened up an All-star spot for him. But because he basically ripped the league and the all-star selection process, he made it quite easy for the league to overlook him once again.

You’ll learn one day Josh…….hopefully.

That’s the point, he does not start, he’s a gangbanger, wants to rap, but he still would come to the Hawks and be better than Marvin easily. Who cares what guys do outside of their jobs. Jordon was a womanizer and a heavy gambler (Might have even gambled on games he palyed in). He will go down as te greatest player of all time.

LOL sautee.

A nickel bag. And the weed might not even be weed. It could be dried up poison ivy leaves with yard grass. People would still trade that for Marvin.

Hey Rod, since you’d bet the house on the Knicks, let’s make a side bet. If Marvin scores 15 points or more tonight, you’ll have to type

“I love Marvin Williams and I want to keep him forever”

After every post you make from now until the Thursday night start of March Madness ( around March 15th )

If he scores less than 15 points, I have to type

“I love Jamal Crawford and I wish the Hawks had him back”

For the same amount of time.

Marvin is a scrub. You’ll win this bet easily right. If so, take the bet.

And if he takes this bet, I want the entire board to hold the loser accountable.
