Atlanta Hawks at Knicks: Game Thread
NEW YORK — Much of the news of the day was reported earlier with the news that Joe Johnson is out of the All-Star Game because of his ailing left knee and Marvin Williams response to a report he wants out.
As the game thread, here is coach Larry Drew’s take on the adversity affecting the Hawks as the limp home from another 10-day, five-game road trip and the loss, at least temporarily, of their second all-star.
* “I want to see us respond to the fact that we have two all-stars who won’t be here. … I want to see our guys respond in a positive way and that means playing consistently from start to finish, four solid quarters.”
* “I just personally feel that this is a true test to see what our team is made of, where we are at this point. We said all along in bringing in help off the bench, veteran guys, can come in and help us in these types of situations. You lose key guys and it opens up opportunities for other guys to play. It’s a matter of us responding to the challenge.”
* “We can’t allow any adversity to step in to the fact where we fragment when the situations are what they are, given our schedule, that we have key players out. We have to keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep marching on.”
Also:
Drew said his team will not get caught up in the Jeremy Lin hype that is sweeping New York. In the Knicks’ last 10 games – nine with Lin as a starter – the guard has averaged 24.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 9.2 assists, 2.9 steals and 5.6 turnovers.
“The one thing that I won’t allow to happen as we prepare for New York, or any team, we don’t focus on just one guy,” Drew said. “Too much focus, too much attention on one guy and then you leave these other guys open. Our approach to the game tonight will not be to stop Jeremy Lin. It will not be that. We know what we have to do against him. We know what we have to do against the rest of their team but we will not just focus on one guy.”
As a final note, former Hawk Mike Bibby paid a pre-game visit to his old team’s locker room before the game.

Crazy_88 is spoty on. Tmac is shooting the ball at 64% from the 3pt line and 48% from the field and yet the coaching staff deem fit Williams the bust deserves more shots. Give tmac 12 shots and 25 minutes a game and he will average 15-6-5

Someone said tmac needs to be more selfish on the court but if you dont have the ball in you’re hand, how can you be that?. The problem is that the coach is a moron. Tmac is the best post player in this team. Put him in the high post and let him create.

Who isn’t on that telecast? They all had an agenda and that was to give the Hawks another pass on a bad performance. No real reporting on this team…
And T-Mac should look for the ball more if he wants to be more involved. I think he is satisfied with his role of being just another guy on the court. He should be ready to get the ball each time on the offensive end. I don’t like watching him take plays off over and over.
LD or not, he has to get past his passive attempts at being in this offense. He’s starting to resemble Marvin, who is being paid 7X more than he’s getting…you can’t tell me T-Mac is giving it his all.

Kelvin i don’t think Stephen Jackson is washed up,i believe he is just uninspired playing with a lottery bound team.I know one thing for certain he has more left in th tank than T mac does.Lewis does have an inflated contract,but he can do what this team lacks the most,and that is the ability,to knock down threes consistently.This team can use a sharp shooter.They can use a lot of things,i dont even know where to start.Don’t j get me wrong i like T mac,i just realize that he is not capable of giving the hawks consistent minutes.Injuries have taken a toll on him.He is still better than Marvin though,by far.

After tomorrows win/loss the Hawks will have approximately 6 days to relax, reflect and reboot. After the Allstar break is when the season gets really SERIOUS. No more laying down and giving up after the 1st quarter just because you’re down 10-15 pts. Guys are going to have play more harder and smarter each and every game – night in/night out – If they want to really make a strong push not just to make the playoffs but to have that momentum going in that could potentially catapult a team pass the first round because Its not a lock that they will get in or make it pass whoever they face.

Been a Hawks fan since they came to ATL in the late ’60s. Guess I just miss Skip Caray, who was way more “frank” in his appraisal of the team when they stunk up the joint than these Rathbun-led hangers-on. They must be making some serious bucks to whXre themselves out like this night after night. No pride, no shame, no professionalism, no pretense of even a little objectivity. I just wonder how they face family/friends when they’re off the air.
